Major corporations have historically engaged in systematic discrimination against Black Americans through various mechanisms: Pepsi ignored Black consumers until 1940, then exploited them through a special sales team before abandoning them; Airbnb research shows Black guests are 16% less likely to be accepted and Black hosts earn 12% less; Abercrombie & Fitch systematically excluded Black, Latino, and Asian applicants from sales positions; Cracker Barrel allowed discriminatory practices including segregated seating and inferior service; Walmart shows significant racial disparities in management positions; Facebook built algorithmic discrimination into its advertising system; and Wells Fargo's 'emerging markets unit' specifically targeted Black churches to sell subprime mortgages, with Black borrowers receiving high-cost loans 37% of the time compared to 5% for white borrowers, resulting in a $175 million settlement.
