Kayla’s reaction captures the enduring power of Austen’s social commentary, showing how the struggle for personal agency remains deeply relatable today. It is a refreshing reminder that the internal growth of a Regency heroine still offers profound lessons in self-awareness.

Jane Austen's Got Me Swooning Again | First Time Watching *PERSUASION* (2007)
Added:Hello friends, my name is Kayla and welcome to my cozy corner of the internet. And in this video, we will be watching 2007's Persuasion. I went back and forth about which Persuasion I would start with, and I decided to go with the one that had the most comments, but they were pretty equal. But I do plan on also reacting to the 1995 version. But just to let you guys know, I know nothing about this movie. I know nothing about this story at all. And so I think this is going to be so much fun. I'm so looking forward to it. Between the two adaptations, period, so many people just wanted me to see this and kept saying, "Please let this be next." So guess what? Here we are. And I'm really, really excited. So I hope you are too.
And without further ado, let's get into this video.
Oh, we started like straight in like Oh, there was there was no like little intro music or or like a studio symbol. It was just right on in there.
>> So, are they are they packing things away or are they preparing things for someone to come back after leaving an estate for a long period of time?
>> I had no idea the position was so ru.
>> Unfortunately, person who has contracted debts must pay them.
Okay, so everything's being sold off >> by no means of lessening their expenses without compromising their dignity >> or relinquishing their comforts in a manner simply not to be born.
>> So, Father and Elizabeth have a spending problem and she's trying to like like re things in so they don't get worse.
>> May I say how truly sorry I am that you must leave Kell.
>> We are blamelessly Russell. Quite blameless.
>> I don't think so.
>> Wipe the stage. And still, it is a comfort to know that >> we've done all we could.
>> I don't think y'all have. Y'all seem very irresponsible.
>> Is that his daughter with him?
>> Mrs. Clay's husband passed away not long ago.
>> She has returned to her father's house.
She is often with us recently.
>> Oh, what is going on, y'all? Okay, there's always something slightly off in these Jane Austin adaptations. Like, somebody's off somewhere.
>> Convinced must meet with your absolute approval.
>> An admiral, sir.
recently retired and a native.
>> He does not seem happy about that.
>> It is in two points offensive. First as being the means of raising persons of obscure birth into undue distinction.
>> I don't think you can afford to be picky about who leases out your home. So they're not selling anything. They're leasing out the home so they don't have to sell.
>> With your permission, sir, I shall open negotiations with Admiral Croft.
>> Croft?
>> Yes.
>> Oh, she knows who this is.
>> Gentleman, yes. No. Um.
>> Oh, yes she do. Yes, she does.
>> Oh, and it's kind of got her in the state. There's some history here. Oh, >> who is Admiral Croft?
>> Please tell us.
>> And why does he cause you to be out of countenance, sir?
>> Please tell us.
>> Now, Mrs. Croft is the sister of Captain Frederick Wentworth.
>> Wentworth.
>> And who's who's Frederick Wentworth?
>> I see.
>> I don't Oh, no. Wait, wait, wait. Did I miss something?
>> To become engaged at 19 in the middle of a war to a young naval officer who had no fortune and no expectations.
>> Oh, >> you would indeed have been throwing yourself away.
>> Oh. Oh. So, was was she engaged to what was it? Wentworth.
>> Captain Wentworth has made his fortune in the war.
>> Oh.
>> And is now extremely wealthy.
>> Oh.
>> Has he written to you? No, never would.
>> Oh, wow. That's some Oh, so she broke it off because her godmother said it wasn't a good match and now he's rich. Oh, man.
>> I only pray that I am spared any meeting. I know my chance of happiness has passed forever.
>> But to be reminded of it by his presence here would be more than my spirits could bear.
>> I I kind of understand what her godmother was saying though. Like at the time it seemed like such an irresponsible match, but it ended up working out. Like it's >> what's up with with with her dad and that and that other girl.
>> I fear Somerset has unpleasant memories for him. There was once talk of an engagement to a girl in He's never spoken of it, but his heart was quite broken, I believe. Oh, well, Frederick engaged. Who would have thought it?
>> Indeed.
>> So, yeah, this one is different because these two knew each other before, fell in love before, and then had a falling out. This is very different from the other love stories we've seen so far.
>> I am so ill. I I can hardly speak. In fact, I do not think I was ever so ill in my >> Oh, you're not that ill. You say you can hardly speak. You're still talking. Yet it must be very hard for you, my dear, to give up your home. So, >> of course, when your poor dear Mama was alive, there was moderation and economy at Kench.
>> But there were never balls.
>> So, they used to be good with their money when Anne's mother was still alive.
>> Has a brother, Captain Wentworth, and he is just returned to England and is coming to stay with them at Kell.
>> It is true.
>> I don't think she was wanting to hear that.
>> We should all see for ourselves when he comes to dine tomorrow night.
>> Tomorrow? Oh, >> I have just now received this note from Admiral Croft.
>> Oh, >> accepting my invitation.
>> Oh, man. There's no getting away from this. Of course not. Because like what's the point of this story if not if her to not find love again?
>> We must not keep the crusts and Captain Wind.
>> Oh man, does she have a get them back dressed? Does she got a like like a real real good one? Cuz it's been eight years. You got to got to come with your best. Oh, did something bad happen? Oh, it looks like it. Oh, she doesn't even have time to think about that.
>> He fell from a tree in the garden.
>> His collarbone is dislocated.
>> Oh, please go look after Mary because she is not okay.
>> All done. And with a little rest, he'll be right as rain in no time.
>> Oh, thank God.
>> I mean, I've never fallen out of a tree, but I feel like falling out of a tree as a kid is a right of passage. you know that I didn't take but you know a lot of kids I knew fell out of trees.
>> I am really most anxious to meet our new neighbors. It indeed is more a duty than anything else. Um if an will stay with you my love I I have no I have no scruple at all.
>> Of course.
>> Oh so this this helps her get out of this left to shift for ourselves >> dinner or maybe not.
>> I need not stay too late dear.
>> Because I am the poor mother. I am not allowed to st going on so well. He says how does he know he is going on so well?
The winner maybe leaves.
>> Ooh, there's a lot going on here.
>> You may all leave the little Charles to my care.
>> Well, this is very kind of you, Anna.
Are you sure?
>> In any case, I have no appetite.
>> She doesn't want to have to deal with this right now. This gives her an out.
>> Oh, and we have all been invited to Kench tomorrow night for dinner. Even you, an >> Even you, an Oh, man. Oh, is that him?
Cuz he was definitely on the the the >> the screen when I clicked this. So that's definitely him. That that's who it is. And she turned right on around.
>> Oh, Captain Winfred. This is my elder sister, Ano.
>> We are acquainted.
>> Yeah, >> but Ann has never said a word about it.
>> M.
>> It was a long time ago. You were >> Ooh. I think his, you know, his feelings are hurt. probably something along the lines of like, "Yeah, I know I didn't have money back then, but I loved you and you loved me and the love should have been enough. I would have taken care of you, girl. We would have been rich rich by now." Rich and in love, man.
>> We have been once more in the same room.
>> Oh. Oh.
>> I heard his voice and then he was gone. He has not forgiven me.
>> You can see that. Or at the very least, he's still hurt.
>> Once there were no two hearts so open.
Oh, >> no feelings so in harmony. But now we are strangers.
>> Dang. Oh, man.
>> And tonight, >> I'm to be tested once more.
>> It's got to be painful. So painful. So painful.
>> Miss Elliot, my brother, Captain Frederick Wentworth. Wentworth and I met briefly yesterday.
>> Oh, >> he's not going to say again that we we we know each other beforehand. He he's not going to mention that again. Well, I'm happy to know that the house is in such worthy and careful hands.
>> Oh, yes. Like, if they really, really, really loved each other like back in the day, like if it was as intense as she said. Yeah. It probably hurts that much worse for both of them.
>> I remember Captain Bennick. He's engaged to Harle's sister.
>> I'm sorry to have to tell you that she died last summer while Benick was out of the cape. 5 years they waited for a fortune to satisfy her family. Now he has it, of course, but too late. Ooh, that's uh mirroring his own his own uh situation. Why did I lose the word?
>> But now I'm paid off and assure Sophie, you'll be delighted to hear that I am at last resolved to settle down.
>> So he's not going to >> pray. Do you have anyone in mind?
>> Shipping off.
>> No, no. I'm quite ready to make a foolish match with any woman between 15 and 30.
A little beauty, a few smiles, and a compliment >> and fits within that that uh age group.
>> What I desire above all in a wife is firmness of character.
>> Ooh. A >> woman who knows her own mind.
>> Feel like these are digs. These are digs.
>> I cannot abide timidity or feebleness of purpose.
>> Which is probably >> which is always open to persuasion.
First one way and then the other. Can never be relied upon.
>> That's where the title comes from. Okay.
Oh man. Yeah, that was definitely directed at her. Like I need somebody who won't be persuaded by their godmother not to marry me just because of what it would what. Ooh.
There he is. It's so intense cuz you just know this man is just like, "Why?
We had a good thing going."
If I was Ann in this situation, I'll be counting the minutes for it to all be over.
>> You know, I believe I've never seen a pleasant man in all my life than Captain Wentworth.
>> Oh, goodness. And she she's just going to have to keep hearing about him, too.
>> When Louisa asked him what he thought of you the other night, he said, "You were so altered, he should not have known you again."
>> Oh.
>> Would not swear. He was exactly those words.
>> Although he was most attentive to me.
>> Oh my goodness.
>> This man is very hurt and he has um not that great things to say about her and she can't really push back at this moment because she feels so guilty.
>> We're just going over to Winthrop to visit cousin Charles. Henrietta's intended. Why don't you come with us, Anne? I'm sure the haters would love to see you again. Capital >> and keeps getting put in these situations cuz everybody likes Wentworth and and she can't get out of it. So, she's just quietly going along.
>> Catch me.
>> Oh. Oh, she is making it known how she feels, huh? Oh. Oh, and she's having to hold so much in.
I'm not sure where they're going, but it looks incredibly inconvenient.
Everybody else got help, but not Ann.
She's on her own, I guess.
Oh, because she's the one person who didn't get help. Oh, and there there he is. Oh, everything's happening so fast.
Everything's happening so fast.
>> I take to inconvenience you and I I know my way to Winthrop perfectly well.
>> So, Wentworth helped and walked off.
That has to make her feel just so rejected and alone, though.
>> She does sometimes provoke me excessively by her nonsense. You know, we all wish Charles had married Anne instead. An?
>> Oh. Oh, he didn't like hearing that.
>> Did you not know he wanted to marry Anne?
>> No, I did not.
>> Well, that's news to me, too.
>> Did she say why she would not marry?
>> Well, >> oh, give us the tea, girl.
>> Said it was her great friend, Lady Russell's doing. He thought Charles might not be bookish enough to please Lady Russell, and so she persuaded Anne to refuse.
>> How many times was Anne persuaded?
>> Yours is a character, I see, of decision and ferventless.
and I honor it.
>> Did Ann hear that? She did. Oh, man.
So, she turned down two men because of somebody else's like being persuaded to.
Now, I feel like Wentworth was a true love, though. I feel like he was the true love. I'm not sure about her now brother-in-law. So, I'm guessing in this we can see an grow kind of like a backbone. Not saying she doesn't want one, but obviously she's had a lot of voices in her ear as she's grown.
>> Stuff, Miss Elliot, you must come with us. Indeed, you must.
>> Oh, >> I'm not sure what could turn Mr. Witworth's mind around back to Ed. I have no clue.
I wish Frederick would spread a little more canvas and bring home one of those two young ladies to Kellynch. He means to have one of them. What do you think, Miss Elliot?
>> Every time somebody asks her opinion about something, I'm just like, "Oh, it has to make her heartbreak a little bit more."
>> Captain Wendworth must visit his best friend.
>> No, indeed. I'm sure I'd better stay here with the children.
>> I might go without you in my delicate stage of recovery. Her sister seems to be delicate in in mind honestly like she's not all she doesn't seem fully okay to be honest.
>> Still he cannot be unfeilling.
>> He cannot see me suffer without wishing to give relief to spur the proof of his own good warm and amiable heart.
>> Y'all going through a lot pain and regret. But he can't fully hate her though because why? I don't know when I really really really really really really really don't like somebody, the last thing I want to see is their face.
The last thing I'm going to do is invite them anywhere. It's like, "Oh, I'm going here. You want to come with me?" I'm not doing that. If I really don't like you, stay out of my face. So, I feel like there is still, yes, a bit of tenderness he has towards her. Don't know how deep it goes, but it's there.
I don't stand next to him and talk to him either. Not if I don't like him. So, I'm just saying.
I mean, he didn't say anything to her, but if he stood there a little bit longer, I feel like a conversation would have been had.
>> Mr. and Mrs. Charles Musgrove, Miss Henrietta Musgrove, Miss Louisa Musgrove, and Miss Elliot.
>> Miss and Elliot.
>> Oh, have you heard about her? Oh, yep.
That was the knowing look like, oh, that so that's her. That that was that was the look >> many thousands that may just as well go to the >> May I say how sorry I was to hear of >> your terrible loss. Oh, he's the one who went worse to talk about earlier.
>> You are still young, and I pray you may one day rally and be happy with another.
>> Man does not forget a woman as readily as you forget us.
>> Oh, >> I will not allow a woman's nature to be more inconstant than a man's.
>> And yet, you will allow that poetry and novels are against you.
>> And are they not all written by men?
>> Oo, people still do that. They watch TV or social media and they make their assumptions based off of that. But the one claim I shall make for my own sex is that we love longest when all hope is gone.
>> There's so much like again pain and regret here.
The stare that you don't want anybody see. Nah, this man still has feelings, but he just It's like when you've been burned once, it's like, can I be sure of you? Like if I if I did this again, can I trust that you won't hurt me again?
Because I don't think I can go through this twice. I think it's a fair thing to be a little bit guarded of your own heart.
Who is this? They keep showing this man and he he didn't say anything. He was just looking around and he walked down steps and I have no clue who he is. Who is that? I mean, I know I'll find out, but it was very suspicious. Who is that?
Oh, and there he is again.
>> Forgive me.
>> Not still.
>> Oh, he was looking for a long time, too.
Who are you, sir? State your name. Tell us what you do. What is this?
>> And now he's leaving.
>> Who is that gentleman?
>> Please tell us.
>> Mr. William Elliot, sir, came in last night on his way to Bath as a window.
William. Elliot. Bless me. And it must be our cousin. William, it must >> Oh, okay. So, that's their cousin.
>> He seems of particular interest. His cousin.
>> So, Walter has no sons. So, his title and the estate of Kellage will pass to the cousin.
>> Okay. Okay. That's That's it.
>> Captain W.
>> Catch me.
>> Girl, you are making this man catch you.
>> Louisa, no.
>> Louisa.
Louisa >> surgeon.
>> Oh my goodness. Black girl just throw >> descending to the end.
>> Keep this press firmly kept.
>> Okay. I had a feeling something bad was going to happen. Something very very bad was going to happen. This girl kept throwing herself and she got a head injury. Goodness.
>> If Anne will stay, there is no one so proper, so capable.
>> Anne is to stay. Who who is nothing to Louisa? Well, I am sent packing. Am I not as capable as Sam?
>> Oh, no. She's not okay. She's She's genuinely not okay.
>> No, we it is too unkind.
>> I will go with Henrietta.
>> Again, she was persuaded. I'm I'm guessing that she just was around a very overbearing family and she just she just did what they said to keep other people happy. But obviously Anne understood more on like the medical side of like how to care for her. So it did make sense for Anne to stay. But her sister cuz part of me is like well maybe she was just you know a little bit spoiled since she was the younger one. But I don't I I don't think I think it's a little bit more than that. At least in my opinion at least in this performance of this character. Maybe I'm wrong.
>> I've been thinking whether you would not better remain with Henrietta while I go in and break it to the Mus alone. Do you think this is a good plan? cuz I'm sure they're not going to be, you know, the happiest to hear what happened to their daughter. It is our own fault. But also, again, she's young.
>> If you would be so kind as to have words sent to me and Bath as to how Louisa does. I am not needed in lime or any longer at Ubacross.
>> He doesn't sound too happy about her going to bath.
>> You dislike Bath most heartily as I recall.
>> I do, but I have an old school friend who lives there. And >> he doesn't sound happy to let her go.
like they haven't really had a conversation.
They've had like slights on his ends, little nicities, but for the most part, nothing of substance has been said like to each other. Just them trying to like feel each other out. And I don't think that's working well for either one of them.
>> Not is nothing to me indeed compared to you.
>> Wait, so is this them downsizing?
Listen, the way people downsize in these Jane Austin novels, I wish I could downsize like this. Goodness gracious.
>> Indeed, our house is undoubtedly the finest in Camden Blaze.
>> Are they actually saving money, though?
Because this doesn't look as much downsized as I thought it would be.
>> Your cousin, Mr. Elliot, is here in Bath and is quite reconciled with Sir Walter.
>> Mr. Elliot?
>> Oh, the same one we saw lurking around.
Okay, I've said this before.
>> Apologies for calling.
>> There's always from what I have seen, there's always at least one trifling man in a Jane Austin novel. Is he trifling or is he just there? He could just be there.
>> I could be prejudging, my dear sir.
>> But there's always there's always been one. I could be wrong. I could be wrong.
We'll see.
>> Our paths have crossed before, Sir Walter, at lime. Not a weak pass. Not that I could expect Miss Elliot to remember.
>> Indeed, I do remember.
>> No, we remember. You were just lurking on the on the steps. Just we not saying.
>> How extraordinary that we should be guests at the same inn at the same time.
>> Oh, yeah. How extraordinary.
>> One might almost say providential.
>> Okay. If you want, you can say whatever you want, sir. It can be whatever you want it to be. I don't know. I I could be prejudging. Let me stop. I don't know this man. Let me stop.
>> Yes. She will make an excellent wife.
Frederick, I congratulate you. Come, sir, you're mistaken if you think you've kept your intentions towards Louisa Musgrove a secret.
>> Cuz everybody thinks this.
>> That is what you say. Astonishing.
>> Do you mean to tell me you don't care for her at all?
>> Well, no, not in that way. No, most assured.
>> Well, then I fear you'll gravely disappoint both her and her family.
>> Yeah, you will. Stop catching this girl.
Stop catching this girl.
>> God, Harry, have I been so unguarded, so thornless?
>> Oh, man.
>> It would appear that you have.
>> You don't jump into the arms of a man you don't want. I am afraid you seem to have entangled yourself. What can I do?
>> He is panicked. Yeah, I don't He He's panicked. Like he was not trying to do that, but I feel like his focus was so much on an that he wasn't paying attention to how his actions were being perceived by other people cuz again, he was very focused on an >> Captain Wentworth and Louisa Musgrove.
It's quite true. I assure you.
>> See, even she thinks it. And you, child, are you reconciled to it?
>> Oh, yes, indeed.
>> If it was true, what choice would she have? I mean, it's not true. She's been so passive, maybe as a survival thing or just believing that others know better than her. She's going to have to speak up to get this man.
>> My dearest cousin, once again, Providence seems eager to throw us together.
>> Again, call it whatever you want to, sir. You refer, of course, to your cousins, the Daaja Vic countest darle and her daughter, the honorable Miss Carter, who arrive in Bath today.
>> You are very well informed, Mr. Elliot.
>> Very well informed. That's why we can't call this Providence cuz you know this man has been doing his research.
>> We welcome any addition to your father's society which diverts his thoughts from those who well are beneath him.
>> You refer to Mrs. Clay.
>> Basically, it's possible that I do. He doesn't want any competition so he can get that embarrassing for itself. It's like >> I rejoice to tell you that Louisa improves daily and will soon be quite her old self. I am also told we shall soon hear wedding bells at Upperross. So expect to see us at Bath next week for a fitting.
>> Oh, she is heartbroken. But also why y'all having a dress fitted for like she hasn't even been proposed to. Like I understand that Wentworth kind of confused everybody with his actions and he had no clue. But don't make me address before I get me a proposal. I'm not trying to be embarrassed. Not. Mm-m.
>> And who prey is Mrs. Smith? Upon my word, Miss Anna Elliot, you have the most extraordinary taste.
>> Perhaps she's not the only poor widow in Bath with little to live on and no surname of dignity.
>> Are you talking about uh Mrs. Clay?
Because that that describes Mrs. Clay to a tea. So it's like here you are hanging out with a widow of like no name, no propriety, no anything, and you're fine with it. So what's the difference with me doing it? He didn't like hearing that. He didn't like hearing that.
>> But we are deeply honored to have a cousin of Lady Dimple pay us a visit here this evening instead of calling upon her relations with the rest of her family. Tell me everything that has happened to you in the past 12 years.
>> Oh, girl, sit back and listen. We got something to catch up on. boy got some stuff.
>> Had I only in a good sense to seize my happiness when I had the chance again and none of this would have happened.
>> I'm not sure I >> So he was he was thinking about how to get an back.
>> When I was only angry and resentful too late, I began to understand myself and her. She's perfection itself.
>> So he's just okay. Okay.
>> I mentioned this letter only because it contains the news that he has proposed to Louisa Muskro. She has accepted him.
You have to be married directly.
>> Married.
>> Oh, >> Louisa >> directly.
>> Oh. Oh. So that was the Oh, so >> I'm free.
>> Sir, you are free. Free. Get up out of there.
>> I'm going to bar tomorrow.
>> Okay. So the letter that Anne received, it wasn't about Wentworth. Wow. Okay.
That was a turn. That was a twist.
>> He thinks you the most extraordinary young woman >> in your temper, man. mine a model of female excellence.
>> Girl, don't be persuaded again. Your man's coming. He's coming.
>> And I do think there would be every possibility of your and Mr. Elliot being very happy together.
>> Okay, I know she means well. I know she does, but some people just need to keep their opinions.
>> The marriage? Why? Your cousin, of course, Miss Louisa Musgrove. Do you want to tell me you did not know? Well, then I'm sure the letter we have brought from your sister will contain a full account.
>> Read it, girl. You need to know the truth.
>> I must confess the news did come as something of a surprise to us. Even Sophie was taken back.
>> Did he give you no indication of his >> Oh, man. Please let her know. She's hurting. She's hurting.
>> Rick is not a man to pine or complain.
No. He very honorably hoped you were very happy with Benick. And there's an end to it.
>> There it is. Okay.
>> Louisa is to marry Captain Benick and not Captain Wentworth.
>> Yes, that's it. Exactly. Now we will have to begin all over with somebody else.
>> He wasn't trying to start with her to begin with, so he is relieved.
>> We have it from Frederick himself.
>> Captain Wentworth is in Bath. He arrived last night.
>> Get your girl, man. Get your girl. Cuz Mr. Elliot is out just out here. And I can't say he hasn't done anything to make me think he's a bad person so far.
So, I could just be, you know, being a little bit judgmental, having opinions don't that don't take root, but you know, we do what we have to when we watch Jane Austin, and we don't know what's going to go on. You have a guard up.
Now, this is a true chance encounter.
Okay. Mr. Elliot is like, "Well, this is Providence." Not. This is This is >> Your sister mentioned you being in Bath.
>> Yes, I'm lodging with the Admiral in Queen Square.
>> Them feelings. Y'all have a conversation cuz y'all haven't had a real one. Y'all have not.
>> You perhaps also heard that Louisa Mosgrove was to marry James Bennett.
>> I have I was most astonished.
>> As was I.
>> Maybe when she hit her head, she realized that it wasn't going anywhere with Worth. Maybe that's what happened.
>> Hello. Yeah. Yeah. With all my soul, I >> I wish them happy.
>> Mhm.
>> We all do.
>> The carriage is outside.
>> Miss Elliot, permit me to name Captain Wentworth.
My cousin, Mr. Elliot.
>> Wentworth, you got some work to do. Some words to say. Say them, please.
>> Captain, there is um a concert at the pump rooms tonight. I remember how fond you are of music.
>> Now, Frederick, you better be there.
went worse. You better go. Don't let her go. Don't lose your chance. She She's not that thrilled by Mr. Elliot.
>> I frequently observe that one pretty face would be followed by five and 30 frights.
>> And as for the men, oh, >> I humble yourself, sir. Humble humility.
It looks good on most.
>> Where is Lady Down?
>> Good heavens. Is that Frederick Wentworth?
>> Oh, he showed up. I said you better be there. And there he is. And shall he be staying long in in Bath?
>> I don't know.
>> That is to say, I am not certain.
>> He doesn't know how this is going to go.
He doesn't know how she feels.
>> Any >> y'all rushing forward doesn't seem very uh proper of you. Y'all chill out.
Is he feeling that feeling that he felt what did they say eight years ago when he wasn't good enough for her and her family? Because he has money now, but he doesn't have like a title.
>> Wait, did he walk out?
>> Captain.
Captain, >> say your words. You need to have like a bold moment.
>> Are you going?
>> Yes.
>> The first half at least not worth staying for.
>> No, there's nothing here worth me staying for.
>> Oh no. Oh no. Why did you say that? Oh no.
Goodness gracious.
>> My dear Anne, is all well?
>> No. All's not well. Why'd you come out, man? Man, >> I have been awaiting an opportunity to speak to you privately.
>> Oh man. Okay.
>> You are far too modest for the world in general to be aware of even half your accomplishments.
>> Only sir, I do not think you know me that well. On >> the contrary, >> you don't actually know her that well.
>> The name of Anne Elliot has long had a beguiling charm for me. If I dared, I would now breathe my sincerest wish. But that name might never change.
>> You definitely wouldn't if you marry your cousin. So yeah, >> perhaps tomorrow night at Camden Place, you'll feel able to make me the happiest and most fortunate of now.
>> Don't make him feel like that. I'm not saying he a bad dude, but you know, he can be happy with somebody else.
She's by herself, but it's one thing Ann is going to get is a proposal. This girl got three under her belt. She's got three. She's got three. Some of us can't get one.
>> And since I am to leave Bath today without delay, I should be obliged if I could wait upon you at 11:00 this morning.
>> What time is it now?
>> Hello, Han. How are you?
>> Charles Mary.
>> Okay, that's not It wasn't him. Not yet.
>> Be married to Charles Hater. Who?
>> I'm the country curate. Father, pray do not trouble yourself. And dear Louisa, is she not with you?
>> She stayed at up across with Captain Bennick.
>> Who? in naval.
>> Who Who are these people?
>> I didn't expect to see you here. Where are you staying? We must go shooting one day if you have time. Mrs. Musgrave.
>> Captain. Father, this is Captain Wentworth.
>> Say what you got to say what you got to.
>> I am charged. That is to say, the admiral, Admiral Croft, has been confidently informed.
>> What? What?
>> That everything is settled now in your family for a union between yourself and Mr. Elliot.
>> Sir, wait. I didn't even give an answer.
Wait, wait, wait, wait, wait. Back it.
Back it up.
>> What answer shall I give?
>> Oh, he's like, tell me now. Where where do we stand?
Is now or never. Be an Elliot forever.
Be Anne Wentworth. Come on now.
>> You will please thank the admiral on my behalf. But I must tell you that he is utterly misinformed.
>> Utterly misinformed. We don't want that man.
>> Lady Russell. Do you remember Lady Russell, Captain?
>> Man, she's the reason y'all broke up the first time. How could I forget? Yeah.
>> Um, >> Miss Elliot, if you'll excuse me, I shall convey your views to the admiral.
>> Captain, >> he leaves so quickly.
>> Captain, >> they just need a moment. There's so many voices. There's so many people. They need a moment that's not interrupted.
Oh, go girl. Go.
>> Is it true Mr. Elliot has asked you to marry him?
>> Yes, but and I hope I give no offense, but I can never forgive myself if I did not acquaint you with Mr. Elliot's real character.
>> Okay. Yep. Triflin. Let's go.
>> Mr. Elliot is a man without heart or conscience. A designing, cold blooded being that only of itself.
>> Oh, wow.
>> His recent reconciliation with your father was no accident.
>> Okay. He's trash.
>> That Sir Walter Elliot might be led to marry his daughter's companion.
>> Mrs. Cla, the very same. Oh, >> should you provide him with an heir? Of course, the child.
>> So that's why he's like, "No, no, no. I got to marry I got to marry a daughter quickly."
>> Oh, his admiration for you is sincere as far as it goes.
>> Oh.
>> Although it has not prevented him from courting Mrs. Clay at the same time.
>> Oh. Oh.
>> He has promised to establish her as his mistress in London as soon as he is married to you.
>> Oh no, not a herm. We don't want that.
Wow. I am.
>> Oh, this man's been working overtime.
>> But now, if you'll forgive me, I must go.
>> Harry was the one person stopping her and talking to her where it made sense.
Thank you. Because I said it's always one. That's always one trifling man. His name, his last name didn't start with a W this time. But still trifling maybe one of the worst. I mean, Wickham is still up there for me. He's up there.
But Elliots is right there. They neck.
They're neck and neck. I'm half agony, half hope. Weak and resentful I have been, but never in constant.
>> I offer myself to you again with a heart even more your own than when you almost broke it 8 years ago.
>> Ooh.
>> I have loved none but you.
>> You alone have brought me to Bath. For you alone, I think and plan.
>> Girl, get your man.
>> Miss Elliot, Miss Frederick, >> he has just gone to crawl upon you at Count. You got this girl running nowhere around town. You know what? Love makes your stamina higher. I wouldn't know, but I'm guessing you can run a little bit longer than normal. A little bit further than usual.
>> Beloved single long powder with a walnut stone.
>> She's probably so happy like she hadn't lost her chance. The thing she thought was gone forever is right in front of her. It's right there in front of her.
Oh, >> I'm in receipt of your proposal.
and a minded to accept it. I am determined.
>> Oh, and nothing, you may be sure, will ever sway me otherwise.
>> Look, let's be real. Even if she did know that Mr. Iliot was absolute garbage, she had already decided that she did not want to marry that man.
Okay, I know it's building like a bit of tension, but it I will say that moment it might have lasted a little bit too long. Just a smidgen too long. It went from like passion to like slightly awkward, but I I I I see what they were doing.
>> I thought you might like to see your wedding present.
>> It's not a bad wedding present. I mean, there's a few broken windows, but you know, those can be fixed.
Oh, and they're happy. And they're happy. And they're happy.
It's sweet. It truly is. It is. After spending so many so much of this movie barely even speaking to each other, finally. And she's away from her family cuz they are a lot. They're They're too much especially for me. Goodness.
A sweetness. That was cute. That was cute.
Okay. I thought this one was interesting because instead of enemies to lovers, instead of friends to lovers, we have this like sense of love long lost that you think you think it's gone. There's a little bit of tension there because one person has been slighted, but but they're trying to find their way back to each other. I think if they didn't have a previous history, I would feel like it happened too quickly. But I think what stands is they had already fallen in love before. Like they knew that there was something already there that was very deep, very passionate. And it was less about, I guess, needing to rekindle that passion as much as it was needing to forgive and understand each other and where they were coming from. Now, I think seeing this version makes me even more interested in watching the 1995 adaptation because I'm interested to see how the acting choices that those actors will make, the direction of the story, like how it will feel. Obviously, I have more of an understanding of the plot by watching this one, but I'm interested to see how it will feel different watching that version. But one of my favorite things about doing these reactions to these adaptations for Jane Austin is the comments. I love reading you guys going more in depth about maybe things I didn't understand or character relationships that maybe aren't fully fleshed out because this is a movie versus like a full series. And it gives me more understanding of what I watched and how it's relevant. And so I thank you guys for always being so ready to comment because I do read them. I do read all of them and they've been really helpful and they've kept my interest in doing these reactions up. So, thank you so much for always just being just being there. It's been it's been really great.
And also, thank you so so much for watching. And if you want to know when I post my next reaction on this channel, please subscribe. Please like this video if you enjoyed it. And friends, I love you. I hope you have a great day and I will see you in my next
