The sensationalist title turns a serious environmental issue into cheap clickbait. It prioritizes fear-mongering over a meaningful discussion of public health and climate change.

Guys, what's going on? My name is Louis and God bless to every single one of you. So, we have a big breaking news coming out. A powerful dust storm has swept across Iraq, including Naj and Baghdad, sending people, look at this, to the hospital with breathing difficulties.
Wow.
man.
Sending people uh to the facility to the ER.
Yeah, we're going to see what's going on here, guys. And uh got people just wearing face covering.
You can't even see the flag.

The entire region was completely dust out. It sent many, many to the uh hospital. We're going to see what's going on with this one here. So, dust storms swept across Iraq as winds reach 90 kilometers.
A dust storm is moving across Iraq Monday with strong winds expected to reduce visibility in Baghdad and other cities over coming hours.
Now, meteorological authority warned.
So, once again, you have uh I'm going skip his name. director of media at the authority told the news agency that satellite imagery detected a dust wave over western Iraq driven by strong surface winds.
The dust wave is expected to reach the capital Baghdad and then move towards other cities during the coming hours causing a clear decline in horizontal visibility. He said, "Man, so I guess people are urged to stay inside. You can't go out."
The wind speeds in parts of Anbar could reach 80 to 90 kilometers with less severe conditions across central southern Iraq due to a surface low pressure system. Now winds are expected to ease during the evening and night though dust will remain suspended in the atmosphere.
Now footage documented by 964 media at the treble border crossing in WBA district and bar showed the storm turning the sky red as it moved eastward. Man, the sky turning red.
Authorities warn of breathing difficulties, particularly for people with respiratory conditions. A previous dust storm earlier this month sent 1,133 people to the hospital across Iraq with 576 cases recorded in Muthana and 300 in Ajaf and 200 in Baghdad.
Now, give me a second here, guys. I want to take you to some of the more news here, but uh this is very disturbing.
I truly apologize about my dog. I got to let him in, guys. So, give me one second here. Let me just give me one second.
Let me bring my dog in.
All right, guys. I truly apologize.
Yeah, around this time, you know, my dog, he start barking because there's multiple cats in the other side of the fence and it just stays there just staring at my dog like giving him a hard time. And um yeah, so my dog barks at everything. A powerful dust storm originated in western onbar on Monday May 18 2026 sweeping eastward into Baghdad Njaf and several central and south southern Iraqi provinces. The storm has significantly compromised air quality. That's the big issue. That's the big big alert is the air quality dropping visibility and triggering over 1,133 hospitalization nationwide due to the acute respiratory distress.
So people need to stay home. Local health authority have deployed emergency medical teams while civil defense organization have placed regional hospital on high alert. The current impact and regional figures. The dust storm was driven by fierce westerly winds peaking at 90 kilometers per hour.
That's 56 mile per hour. Man, that's very strong. That's like a category one hurricane creating a dense cloud of airborne particulate. And according to the Iraqi Meteorological Organization, the initial wave forced thousands of citizens to seek uh medical intervention.
Case metrics released by regional health uh directories revealed widespread medical emergency across several provinces.
So once again, there is a lot of people visiting the hospital right now because of the air quality.
Whenever stuff like that happens, people just need to stay home. Stay home. It's not good to be out. underlying drivers.
Public health and environmental monitors note that these hazardous airborne event are worsening the continuous upsurge in intensity is primarily driven by number one well they saying is the climate change vulnerability. The UN list Iraq as one of the world's five most vulnerable nations to clim change disruption.
Number two, desert desertifications and land degradation.
Uh protracted multi-year droughts and dwindling annual rainfall have stripped away vegetation cover leaving loose uh top soils highly susceptible to wind erosion. Number three, projected frequency. The Iraqi Environmental Ministry uh has cautioned that the region may experience over 100 dust days per season with a potential trajectory towards 300 dusty days annually by 2050 if mitigation strategies fail. It's crazy because here we are dealing with drought and all these storms and out there they're dealing with red skies, man.
safety measures issued by authorities.
All right. So, the you got the uh defense directory has issued urgent safety guidelines to help residents minimize particulate inhalation. Number one, seal indoor spaces. Fasten all doors and windows completely utilizing wet towels or damp cloth barriers beneath frames to trap incoming micro dust. Number two, protect vulnerable groups. Ensure that young ones, the elderly, and anyone suffering from chronic asthma or cardiovascular conditions remain strictly indoors.
Number three, wear protective coverings.
Wear high filtration face mask or dense damp fabric wraps over the mouth and nose.
If outdoor transit becomes unavoidable, here's the thing, you know, and I talk about air quality a lot. I recommend people to get the N95 mask because it has a built-in filter and it's very good. It's not like, you know, those cheap blue ones that people use every single day, which was not meant to use every single day. You got to throw it out the same day. It's not reusable. But N95 mask would do the job. Number four, exercise extreme driving caution.
Drivers must slow down or pull over as blinding dust can abruptly plummet visibility down to hazard distances.
All right, so let me go back on X. I want to see if there's any more information about this story here. But very concerning.
Ooh, look at this one here.
Wow.
I'm going to share all this video, guys.
Sand Sandstorms sweep through Iraq as whole city turns an ominous dark orange.
Man, and this dude is driving. You can't see nothing, man. I mean, I can see the road just a little bit, but you can't see nothing, man.
Pull over. Pull over, man. You got to pull over. You got to pull over.
