DIGITAL ID: "I don’t understand why we need it" (Ellie Hodges)Added:
So, when you first hear the words digital ID, what's your initial reaction? The vulnerabilities of digital ID and how it can be abused.
>> I'm not a fan of it. Instrumental thing of authoritarianism of the government using it against you in certain ways. I myself do not agree with digital ID.
>> Over-policing. We've already got IDs and everyone's got IDs normally, driving license and stuff. I don't really understand why we need digital IDs, to be honest.
>> Who really trusts the government with anything these days? Uh my trust in the government has gone downhill over the last few years. So, it's going to be rolled out in a way that benefits them more than it benefits the normal person.
Do you trust this current government?
I'm not sure I do. I'd be even more skeptical about it if it's something that you would be forced to do. Yeah, I think it should be a choice. Do you trust the government with your information?
>> Probably not.
>> Yeah, no, I would say no. Are we controlled?
We have to Listen, we have AI and that's you know, that's a big battle. It's tricky. It's very, very tricky. I think that the way that it would be implemented would probably be taken advantage of. Probably private companies would get involved and they would take advantage of it. I think the government should actually have consulted the public about this. Um yes, they should have done, but even if they had have done, they would have done what they want anyway.
>> Not a good use of taxpayers' money at all. I know what my tax bill is every month and I'd rather it go to the OAPs, people in need, disabilities, carers, NHS, dentists.
Where does the list stop?
>> The way digital ID is used to fund things has become well, uh instrumental to our technocratic society. So, it says that I solemnly and publicly promise that I will not install government code on my phone.
Great. Thank you so much.
Thanks.
Amazing. Thank you so much. Thank you.
>> so much. I appreciate all you do.
