This video presents 10 essential principles for water survival: using plant indicators to locate water in arid areas, adjusting boiling times based on altitude, understanding that boiling only removes microbial contamination (not chemical contaminants like algae blooms), requiring 0.2 micron filtration for wilderness water, needing 3.7L daily for adult males and 2.7L for females, supplementing electrolytes during heavy sweating, recognizing that urban water poses greater microbial dangers than wilderness water, and using distillation to remove salt and destroy microbes.

The 10 Essentials of Water For SurvivalHinzugefügt:
These are the 10 essentials of locating, purifying, and drinking water in the outdoors. One, using plant indicators to spot green belts is the best way to find water in arid areas like deserts. Two, proper boiling times change based upon your altitude. Three, boiling is effective against microbial contamination, but it is not adequate for chemical contamination such as that from harmful algae blooms. Four, the concern with algae blooms is chemical, not microbial. Five, a wilderness water filter should have 0.2 micron filtration or better. Six, the average adult male requires 3.7 L per day, and the average adult female requires 2.7 L per day for adequate hydration. Plan accordingly.
Seven, large volumes of sweat and water intake require electrolyte supplementation to avoid hyponatremia and maintain performance. Eight, wilderness water filters and systems are not adequate for use in urban areas.
Nine, harmful microbes are much more dangerous in urban water sources than wilderness. Protozoa may make you sick, but encephalitis can kill. Never drink water flowing through urban waterways untreated. 10, distillation removes salt from water and destroys dangerous microbes. You can distill water with a sheet of plastic and sunlight, or with pots and pans. I do offer a complete guide to locating, treating, and using water in the field. Hit the link in bio if you want to learn more. Of course, I have in-person training as well.
