The video rebrands the harsh reality of infrastructure failure as a romanticized aesthetic of "resourcefulness" for a global audience. It turns the daily struggle for survival into a curated spectacle of resilience, blurring the line between authentic living and performative poverty.

British / Filipino Life in the MIDDLE OF NOWHERE (NO WATER)!
Added:Good morning. Really is. Look at my morning face. I'm literally just up here. Like, so the water's not here, unfortunately. Which means that first thing in the morning before I've even made a cup of tea, before I've made a cup of tea, can you believe that? Before tea or coffee or anything like that, I'm now stuck doing this. This is the reality of it, guys.
Always having to do stuff like this. And the water is actually ran out too. Well, they have a we gander at that. Look.
So, this is the last of it before we have to go to the well and stuff like that. So, that is great. I've actually got a few things that I want to show you that I've been up to the past like 3 days or something. And I actually did it all yesterday, but I haven't filmed in 3 days. Can you believe that? So, let's show you that. I'll show you that now, actually. So, it's only been like two things that are a sort of visible change. And one is that banana tree.
So, I didn't cut this one cuz it's small. Michael will be annoyed at me, but he won't be annoyed at this one because actually, I did the right thing with that one cuz it was so big. I actually cut that off. And look, this bit has started growing already like through that. That actually came up. It was like that whenever I cut it.
And then it came up to like that height like there like the night I did it. And actually I filled this one up with water before putting it back in. So this one should possibly do a little bit better. And then as well as that, so speaking to my now at this point, flip my eyes. Haven't woken up yet. I'm so sorry. But over here, I've actually moved this light. It was over there and then I've moved it over here. So, but it's kind of directionally going that way. And actually, it's getting a really good bit of sun there. I was maybe a wee bit worried about the banana trees possibly like that, but actually it's going to be getting a lot of sun to be honest. Look at that.
So, I'm pretty sure that's grand. That I believe, guys. Oh, look at this one. I think this one's falling. Is it? Let's see.
Seems sturdy enough. It's just the maybe the way it wants to grow on the sun and stuff like that. Here's Moon Cake looking at stuff.
You okay? You look like you were going to jump at something.
Yeah. [laughter] [snorts] Just need to be pushed sometimes. This one that's to collect our air con water, but the dogs always do that too. Like so. Yeah, that's us. I need to finish doing this one to actually get the water into wash like a cup and you know just do the main things like that to actually have a cup of tea.
Flip. Is there even any water in here?
There's a wee bit in there. There still sediment at the bottom cuz it's not even perfect if you know what I mean. There's still mud comes through. So you can't drink this one unfortunately.
And says she's cooking leaves. So leaves is a pizzeria over here in Upperland. So I always like pizza, but no, it's lettuce. [laughter] Lettuce leaves. Lettuce leaves. And then you've got some egg going on here, too.
So, you're going to be making what? An omelette, is it?
>> No.
>> What on earth are you doing?
>> One.
>> This one?
>> Yeah.
>> An egg?
>> Yeah.
>> Interesting. I'm not too sure how that is meant to be. Is it meant to be a soup? Is it? Or >> It's not >> fried. You fry it with this.
>> Yeah.
>> Interesting. Okay.
So, I've got this one I'm going to try today. It's the hot and spicy version of Mangamas. It's pretty hot and it's pretty spicy. It lives by its name. So, I'm going to need a bit of this one. Bit of that ranch to cool it down 100%. This is what it ended up looking like. So, there you go. Fried egg with lettuce.
And looks like a we omelette sort of thing. Looking good. And we came straight back in. We were like, it's way too hot there. So, now we're here.
There's an with the fan. How's life with your fan on?
>> Good. Cookie didn't even come out. He's like, I'm not doing that. Not at midday or whatever time it is.
I put some ranch and I put some of the other stuff on it, too. So, let's try it out. I'm still on the bed.
Okay, we still have no water unfortunately, which means I'm going to move these tumblers because it has started to rain, which means that if it rains, we can collect the water a little bit. in both of these because you seen them earlier. They're both flipping nearly empty. So, double check on doesn't look like it. So, let's get them filled up with a bit of rain here rather than just wasting. And the best place for them to be lifted with the rain is over in that we groove. So, there actually.
And then this one will be a lot easier.
We'll look at that. again over there under the weed groove.
And now we shall collect rain. If it runs off the roof, it catches there and then it rolls down rather than it not collecting as much just sitting over here. Let's get that off. Many of times you can leave that on whenever the water isn't there and then you look at it hours later and it's been running and you're thinking, I wonder how long that's been running. Which is never good.
All right. Come on.
You're coming in, Choco. Come on.
Come on. Don't you go out now for flip sake.
All right, I've had enough of the air con flipping airs going out whenever I'm opening the door. And the animals are being annoying as Oh my goodness.
Egypts, aren't they? Aren't they Egypts?
Hey, >> at least you came in. [laughter] >> Right, guys? John Mark wants to tell me something >> later. Pizza time.
>> What?
>> Pizza time.
>> What?
Do you hear this song?
>> Yeah.
>> He says it's pizza time later.
>> Because poison flour gave me a 1,000 >> again. No, I mean that yesterday.
>> Oh, you're using that one?
>> Yeah, I'm using >> Oh, that's great then. Thank you. Poison flour indirectly for John Mark using it for a pizza.
>> Yeah.
>> Nice.
>> And Coke.
>> And Coke.
>> Yeah.
>> Yan.
Oh my goodness.
>> And new shorts.
>> Yan. [laughter] That's the best part.
Looking very swave. Yes. Yes. Bro and sister. New shorts. And you got new shorts yesterday, didn't you, love?
Yeah, >> Ann's looking highly embarrassed up here. How are you, love?
>> I'm good. [laughter] >> Why did you What?
>> I'm just thinking the water still not come back. Maybe we go to the well to taking a shower then.
>> Oh yeah, it's still not back. Like I know I know. Well, at least for some good news from John Mark. But yes, but water obviously we can't fix that unfortunately.
>> Stop poking me in the chest, you weirdo.
Stop it. I think I've seen your dad post it on Facebook actually.
I think it. Yeah, maybe. Maybe John Mark's going to show me some crabs, guys. I think Tom, he was actually home yesterday. You might have seen B on a live did recently and he managed to get crabs. I'm just looking over here at the machine. John Mark had hurt his thumb.
So, it's actually looks like he's used it though. Anyway, so this and then he's caught it all in this banana leaf and then that one like that. So, I think possibly it has been used, which is good. So, it is something's going on around here, too.
What's the crack here?
Something has been done with these tools. So, I hope everything was okay.
>> That's a big one, isn't it? Look, [laughter] look at you go. Is he dead? He's dead.
Yeah. Okay.
>> Is alive.
>> Oh, you're alive. Hello. That's a big claw again. Like, so this is the one you're doing wheel with, is it?
>> Yeah.
>> Ah, good job, man. What's all your tools out for then, anyway? I seen all the tools are out over here. Was anything broken? The tools like screwdrivers and >> nothing.
>> No, nothing. I thought maybe something was wrong with this one or something cuz I seen it's been used again.
>> You try it again cuz I see coconut.
>> I my video.
>> Yeah.
>> Yeah, I am using that in early in the morning.
>> Were you? Okay, I'll have to see that one then cuz I watched your upper video and you were still doing it on that one >> by hand. But now you've actually managed and it was okay. I didn't like jerk it out of the way.
>> How about gloves?
>> Gloves. Yeah, it'll help a little bit.
But >> yeah, a little bit. But >> but you didn't hit it with this time.
No, no, no cut close or anything, but at least it'll help maybe a little bit like But better than no gloves, I suppose, which is good. And did it grab it?
Because John Mark was saying that if you do it sometimes it can go like and and just like that and sort of like move your thumb into it or something. So it didn't do that so much, did it? Like the >> Yeah, >> it it did. But you just make sure you're holding it like that like and then maybe last time it was like that or something.
>> Ah, okay. I will have to give it a go.
Oh, I think I'll have to hold it like really maybe my hand like that or something.
And you know, I don't know. I sort of have it in my mind though.
>> Oh, that's great. Look.
>> So guys, John Mark has just brought us the coconut crab. The crab cooked in the coconut that we seen earlier. That crab like >> Oh my goodness.
>> There's ton on his way over to I know.
Did you see that one? I think we're making a reel or something out of that.
>> Yeah, it's a ali mango. This one.
>> Al mango.
>> Yeah, it's not the black inside. It's a >> white. Hey, bro. There he is. There's my man himself. The catcher of the crabs.
Yan indeed. Yan indeed.
>> Oh my goodness. Look at that. It's too big.
>> So red looking. It looks so nice whenever it turns that red color, doesn't it?
>> That's impressive.
>> John Mark's cracking her open now. Like look at this. Cover the eyes. Buff the camera, GUYS.
[laughter] He's cracking it, right? Cuz we're going to do a we real moment as well, >> but we want to prepare it good. I heard it go there like, yeah, something happened. Look at all the juice coming out of it.
All that coconut on it as well. Look at that go.'s getting that over to get some juice caught in it. Don't want to waste the juice. You see Joo's looking at it.
Yeah. Don't you h >> No, Choco.
>> Don't start. She's going to start.
Flip me. It's so juicy. I'm getting out of the way. Splashback's about to happen here, I think.
>> Look at that.
>> That's a nice long one, too. Bear, >> it's so sweet.
>> Is it?
That is a tough crab shell, man.
>> It No, it's cuz it's pointy like a triangle.
>> What happened to you?
>> You're getting caught on this thing.
>> Yeah, it's cuz it's like grooved like that and it's a triangle shape. Triangle is the strongest shape. Very, very hard to go through. That's why roofs and stuff are made like that.
>> Tonton's got that. Look at it. Oh my goodness, it's so much.
>> Wow, it actually is. Sometimes it's not right to the edge of the shell and things like that and straight in there.
Getting a No, give us some of that right now. [laughter] >> It's so nicely.
>> Is it still sweet that part with the claw? Was it?
>> Yeah, >> it was.
>> Guys, look at this fresh mangrove crab from the Philippines. Wow.
And then you're going to do that.
All right. This is it.
Okay. Here we go. Look at that.
Wait, how did I get it out? I did it wrong, didn't I?
>> I'm not sure how I did it.
Wait.
Let's go. Here. Look at that. Oh, there we go.
Mhm. Mhm.
That is so meaty. Look at this bit. Wa.
That is proper. Thank you, Tonton. Right over there. Flip me.
Oh, that is a big bit of crab, man. Loving it.
>> That was so good, bro. Nice catch.
That's the best one so far.
>> Wow. Did you guys just see that? Really?
Maybe. Yeah, you probably did. And that was classike. That was actually so so good. So meaty in that claw as well. Now I'm actually going to have it properly with a little bit of rice though. So there's some here. That's coconut with that too. So actually, let's get a we bit like that.
Get a proper wee bit.
You can't beat it with rice, too. Oh, yeah. John Mark had that mango last night. Some of that mango that you you left here.
>> Yeah.
>> That was amazing.
>> It tastes It tastes like coconut.
>> It did. It was sweet. It was like a coconut taste. It would be so good in a curry, I think, with coconut and and the mango like that actually in a curry. I think so. Anyway, I had a lovely mango last night. John Mark got he actually got it from Bree and it wasn't the normal mango. It was a different type of mango and it was really really good.
Very floral or something very like of the smell of a flour and then the sweetness of a coconut with also the taste of mango mixed in with that. First time trying that. We don't know the name of that mango, do we?
>> Guani.
>> Guani.
>> Guani.
>> Guani.
>> Guani.
>> Guani. Yeah.
>> Right. So, now you guys know what I mean. Some of you will anyway. If you don't, look it up online and you'll know what I mean. And try and get one in your supermarket if you can get it in a supermarket. I don't know. But it's it's really worth a try. 100%. First time trying it last night. Cookie, come on.
Ouch. Cat. Come on.
Taking so long. Come on. Go.
Right. They might try and fight over this. So, try and distribute it evenly.
Oh, that's good.
Where's the upper ones? Oh, guys, are you enjoying that?
Look at them. That nice.
There you go. H don't fight you cookie.
Be nice cookie.
There you go. You're all getting some.
That's good. Don't you start fighting now.
Hh.
Right. Ah. Don't.
It's inevitable. That water's still not back. You kidding me?
We'll leave it on the minute open. We'll hear it, I suppose.
>> Thank you, Tonton. Cheers, bro. Tonton's just giving us this Pacwan and he's away. [laughter] I had to tell you guys. See, these things happen and I don't always show it, so I had to catch it. Nice. We have a Pacquan now.
>> Yeah. Let put in the fridge.
>> What's this? More Pacwan.
>> No. No, it's not Pacwan. It's Indian mango, isn't it?
>> What we looking for?
>> Oh, the cool kids. These are good with the salt and stuff like that. And actually is more of a fan than I am, but the pack one I am a fan of 100% 150%.
Because it's one back there, the green one here. Then it's full like that.
You're bringing in the city.
>> No way. Really? Is it a request from people there? Is it?
>> I don't know. Like maybe sharing the other worker there.
>> Oh, okay. Is it we snack or whatever?
Nice.
>> Then some maybe crabs because how about different crabs? The black one inside.
>> He's bringing crabs, is he? It will be okay by the time he gets cuz they're all alive still. Is it?
>> No. Maybe it's got like put the hot water >> possible then bringing there then with the coconut then cook there maybe I think so.
>> Oh good tonight.
>> Yeah possible.
>> Okay. There's some weirdness going on out here.
What?
>> What is this traditional Filipino music?
It actually doesn't sound that bad. It's in a rhythm, isn't it? Ding ding ding ding ding ding ding.
Well done everyone. Good playing. Mm.
What's happening? Good evening.
>> What a funny introduction, eh?
[laughter] Oh, that's nice, isn't it?
>> Bro, you left your camera here.
>> Oh, we need glasses, do we?
>> Yeah. [laughter] >> I need to get the need cups and stuff.
>> Like so much, >> guys. The coke just went everywhere.
Look at this. It was [laughter] so busy.
>> Coke.
>> What is that? A 2 liter, is it?
Did it look different?
>> Everywhere like shield the pizza [laughter] was brilliant flavor flavor [laughter] of sweetness.
[laughter] Translator. translators >> everyone >> watching us eating pizza [laughter] just here is like props background people [crying] >> it's been about a long time it's beautiful got a good bit of pineapple on that bit too loving
