Congress Inside Trading: Justifying Corruption for Low Salaries? #shorts

[00:00:00]You know, congressmen have it pretty tough. They really haven't had a raise in a heck of a long time. Now, I could swear they just had a raise, but apparently they're complaining they haven't had a raise in decades. So, they're proposing, Mike Johnson is proposing they continue to perform inside trading. Now, it seems like I'm kidding when I say that, I'm not kidding at all. And I think we should hear it from Mike Johnson himself.

[00:00:28]>> Well, look, you know, the the salary of Congress has been frozen since 2009. You know, when you adjust for inflation, a member of Congress today is making 31% less than they made in that year. It goes down every year. And and over time, if you stay on this trajectory, you're you're going to have less qualified people who are willing to make the extreme sacrifice to run for Congress. I mean, it's just people just make a reasonable decision as a family on whether or not they can come and and move to Washington, have a residency or residence at home, and do all the things that are required. Wow. So, the the counter argument is that I have some sympathy. Look, at least let them like engage in some stock trading Inside trading. so that they can continue to, you know, take care of their family.

[00:01:07]Yeah, take care of their families with inside trading. What the hell? I have justified it. Yes, it's okay. We should do that.

[00:01:15]Justify corruption with inside trading because their salaries are still pretty low.

[00:01:21]I've got an idea, by the way, and this is an idea that is unearthed from the unmoving national minimum wage that we've been stuck at for so many years.

[00:01:36]Let's try having taxpayer-funded health care coverage for all of these political representatives done away with. All right?

[00:01:48]They can pay for their health care on their own, just like we have to do that out here, and they can have their low salaries, just like we have out here and see how they like it. And I would like them to get back to us eventually on that, okay?

[00:02:04]Now, let's get to uh uh Byron Donalds, who he's a representative that just says the dumbest things out there, and I just really have to play this for you. Uh he's point-blank saying insider trading, that's what we need.

[00:02:20]Insider trading should absolutely be allowed for members of Congress. Look, the salary, it doesn't cut it anymore.

[00:02:27]If I happen to make millions because I'm privy to sensitive government information, well, that's called initiative. The American people want leaders [laughter] who know how to capitalize on opportunity. That's leadership.
