I would like to express my gratitude to the government of the ASEAN-Japan Summit for their leadership as the world is currently undergoing its biggest structural change since the war, amidst shifts in the balance of power and conflicts. The security environment is becoming increasingly severe, and ensuring economic security has become a major challenge. In this context, the free and open international land that we have come to recognize as being based on the rule of law is facing various challenges. The Free and Open Indo-Pacific, which Japan has proposed, is a vision aimed at maintaining and strengthening such international relations, and the core of realizing it is [this]. In May, Eh, Gao Chang, and I each took a policy position regarding the evolution of the preservation step. The key point is that, in the current challenging international situation, each country must develop independence and strong character. I believe that three qualities are particularly important: independence and self-reliance. Firstly, the ability of each country to protect its territory and domain. Japan aims to deepen cooperation with other countries in these fields and, together, become stronger and more prosperous as a whole region. Japan will continue to cooperate in promoting and mainstreaming AOIP.
