African women in the Great Lakes region performed successful C-sections centuries before Europe, using traditional sterilization methods with banana wine and natural herbs, with documented cases showing wound healing within 11 days and healthy outcomes for both mother and baby, while European C-sections were not performed until the late 1800s and often resulted in high maternal mortality due to primitive or ignored antiseptic techniques.

Africans performed C SECTIONS long before Europe #blackthought #blackcomunity#blackhistory
Added:Did you know that African women were performing successful C-sections centuries before Europe? Time for another history lesson with Women's Africa. In 1979, a Scottish medical anthropologist documented a C-section performed by a local surgeon in modern-day Uganda. The patient was a 20-year-old woman with an obstructed labor, and they gave her a large dose of banana wine as a sedative, and then used it to wash her abdomen and the medical tools to sterilize them. The baby was safely removed along with the placenta.
They then cut the cord and used natural herbs and dressings after sewing the wound shut. According to The Scotsman, the wound was well healed by the 11th day, and both the mother and the baby were healthy. Safe to say he was dumbfounded. In Europe, C-sections weren't performed until the late 1800s, and even then, they were often a death sentence for the mother. Mortality rates were high, largely because antiseptic techniques were primitive or ignored altogether. But across the African continent, particularly in the Great Lakes region, oral histories describe surgeons doing successful C-sections for generations, aided by sterilization and traditional anesthetic. What else do we associate with Western medicine that happened in traditional practices [music] first?
