CJP Protest | Delhi Police Files FIR After Parliament March Turns Violent

[00:00:00]You know, yesterday young people marched towards Parliament. In fact, people across age groups attempted to march towards Parliament. They knew the police were waiting. They came anyway.

[00:00:10]The BJP may have organized the mobilization, but the extraordinary scale of the response that tells us this anger is much bigger than any one organization.

[00:00:21]The NEET row, the CBSE controversy, questions over paper leaks, examination security yesterday this generation showed the government it has the numbers to demand answers. And now, the Delhi police has registered an FIR over yesterday's violence >> [music] >> in Connaught Place alleging vandalism of police vehicles and stone pelting near Regal Cinema, too.

[00:00:41]You must note that the FIR, however, is against unknown persons.

[00:00:46]At this stage, so, there is no official attribution of responsibility to any individual or any organization, according to the FIR.

[00:00:55]In fact, the FIR also says police vehicles were vandalized, stones were thrown at police personnel. The case, however, has been registered against unidentified people, and investigators are yet to established who is really responsible for the violence. And that distinction is something we cannot ignore right now.

[00:01:15]At this stage, the FIR records the police's allegations. [music] It doesn't identify any individual organization as being responsible. Akhil Jamel has sent us the latest details. He joins us live at the moment. Akhil, break down for us first what exactly does the FIR allege?

[00:01:30]And just as importantly, what does it not say?

[00:01:37]>> Well, Parmesh, if you see initially, the permission was only granted for the protest at Jantar Mantar. What we have seen that there was no official permission which was granted to to march from Jantar Mantar towards Parliament side. Despite no rulings, what we have seen that the BJP protesters moved from Jantar Mantar side towards towards Parliament. And if you see where this protest took an ugly turn where the mob basically came forward and and what we have seen that there was a violent turn of event in which what we have seen that over 180 18 police personnel got injured. Apart from that if you see what we have also seen that in in that very protest senior officials including the special CP rank officers, joint CP rank officer, additional CP rank officers, DCPs. So there were several senior high high ranking officials that have got injured.

[00:02:27]Apart from that if you see right now what we have seen that that a case has already been filed at Connaught Place police station with the individuals being identified.

[00:02:38]There were some individuals who have been identified with the help of CCTV cameras installed in in the outer circle of of the Connaught Place region. So right now the Delhi police team is trying to identify more and more individuals but so far if you see there are 70 individuals who have been detained. Right now the Delhi police team is questioning them regarding their specific role and whether they have been given any kind of mandate or any kind of a ruling from the from the senior leadership. So that is also being investigated by the Delhi police team.

[00:03:07]Right now you can see the visuals behind me. I'm I'm at Safdarjung Hospital where Sonam Wangchuk is still still here. His treatment is still going on and right now what we have got to know that his vitals are absolutely normal and he's under the observations of of of medical doctors. Because earlier what we have seen that if you see the the BJP team and apart from that Sonam Wangchuk's wife has also claimed that they wanted to move Sonam from here but right now his treatment is still on after the court ruling. The court has basically said that Sonam Wangchuk's condition has got critical and after that the Delhi police team has taken Sonam from from the spot site from the Jantar Mantar protest site towards this very hospital where his treatment is still underway.

[00:04:06]Even late into Monday night, BJP protesters remained at Delhi's Jantar Mantar after a day that saw confrontation. It saw injuries, detentions, the lathi charge, the dramatic visuals that came in from the national capital. Police personnel were also injured during the clashes. And this morning, let's turn our attention to what happens next.

[00:04:25]As Akhil is reporting, Sonam Wangchuk says his fast will continue until BJP youth leaders or he himself are permitted to meet MPs. The court will hear the matter on his transfer to a private hospital meanwhile today post noon at 12:30 p.m. to be specific.

[00:04:39]And the government has opened a line of communication finally after being mum while this entire protest was going on in the national capital.

[00:04:48]Health Minister JP Nadda finally met protest leaders yesterday, who reiterated demands including Sonam Wangchuk's release, the resignation of the education minister, and the assistance for families affected by the alleged NEET paper leak.
