The Secret Behind the World's Fastest Charging Chinese Battery
Added:One charging cable in China delivers 1,500 [music] kW. A single Tesla V4 power cabinet delivers 1.2 megawatt. And it splits [music] that between eight cars. Read those two sentences again.
One Chinese cable feeding one vehicle outguns [music] an entire Tesla cabinet feeding eight. That is not a projection.
That is not a laboratory. Both of those machines are installed, energized, and taking payment from the public. Today, for 15 years, charging speed was the one argument the electric car could never win. [music] You could talk about torque, about silence, about running costs, and then someone would ask how long it takes to fill and the conversation [music] ended.
That argument is now over. It did not end the way anyone in Stoodgart or Palo Alto expected. It ended in a country that was not building cars at all when the Porsche Takan was being designed. In this video, we are going to rank the fastest charging hardware on Earth by peak power per gun. From the slowest to the fastest. Along the way, you are going to find out why almost every number you have read about Tesla's V4 superchargers is wrong. Why a world record set in 2024 would [music] finish last on this list today and why the single most important figure in this entire story is not a kilowatt reading at all. It is [music] a number so small that Tesla has never once put it in a press release.
Before we rank anything, we have to deal with a problem because if we do not, every number that follows is meaningless. There are two completely different things being sold to you under the name V4. There is the V4 post. That is the tall unit you actually walk up to with the longer cable and the screen designed so that cars from other manufacturers can reach the socket. And then there is the V4 cabinet. That is the gray box behind the car park that nobody photographs. The power electronics unit that converts grid alternating current into direct current for the battery. The post is the handle.
The cabinet [music] is the engine. Tesla began installing V4 posts in Europe in early 2023, [music] starting at Hardervike in the Netherlands. Those posts looked like the future. They were wired into old V3 cabinets, and they were capped at around 250 kW. The owner community gave that arrangement a nickname because Tesla never did. They call it V3.5.
So, there are superchargers all over the world right now wearing a V4 badge, charging at a speed Tesla first achieved in 2019. When a journalist writes that a country has hundreds of V4 superchargers, that sentence can be completely true and completely useless at the same time. It depends entirely on which of the two things they counted. [music] Keep that distinction in your head because it is about to make a 2,000% difference [music] to what you are looking at.
Let us start the countdown where the western world sits and let us be fair to it because these are genuinely good machines. The Porsche Tekken runs an 800 volt architecture and peaks at around 320 kW. The Lucid Gravity, America's fast charging champion, can theoretically accept up to 400 kW in the real world. Both of those cars take somewhere between 20 and 25 minutes to go from 10 to 80% for a very long time.
That was the ceiling. Then Tesla did something real. And it deserves proper credit because the internet has been sneering at Tesla's charging program for 2 years. And on this occasion, the sneering is wrong. The true V4 station do [music] cabinet and post together delivers up to 500 kW per stall and supports battery systems running at 1,000 volts. That is double the old V3 ceiling. The first one switched on in [music] Redwood City, Chanded, California on the 29th of September 2025. [music] Europe waited until June 2026 when a site at Heleroda near Oslo in Norway came online with 28 charging points.
Norway gets these things first for an obvious reason. Around 97% of its [music] new cars are electric. It is the closest thing on Earth to a laboratory for the future of driving. [music] So Tesla now has a 500 kW machine except for one detail that almost nobody mentions. Right now the only Tesla that can actually draw 500 [music] kW is the Cybert truck. Plug in a Model 3 or a Model Y, the two cars that made Tesla the company it is, and nothing changes at all.
Now we [music] cross to China and the first thing you meet there is a ghost.
In 2024, a company called Greater Bay Technology, backed by the Chinese state manufacturer GAC, set an official world record for the fastest charging technology fitted [music] to an electric vehicle. Its extreme fast charging battery went from 0 to 80% in 7 minutes and 30 seconds. Understand what that meant at the time? 7 and 1/2 minutes was not an improvement. It was an insult. It was faster than the coffee queue at the service station. Every legacy manufacturer in Europe and Japan looked at that figure and quietly wondered whether the game was already lost. Hold that number in your hand for a moment. 7 minutes 30 seconds. World record barely 2 years old. By the end of this [music] video, that record will be the slowest Chinese figure on the entire list.
[music] Not slow for a world record.
Slow full stop. Beaten by cars you can walk into a showroom in Shenzhen and buy [music] this afternoon. This is the part of the story that the specification sheets cannot show you and it is the reason this video exists. The interesting thing is not [music] that China is fast. Everybody knows China is fast. The interesting thing is the rate at which the floor is moving underneath everyone's feet. A world record that survives 24 months is not a record. It is a milestone on a road that somebody else is still driving down.
[music] So who actually builds the fastest charging hardware on Earth? One measure, one list, counting down.
We are ranking by peak power through a single cable because that is the figure that decides how quickly energy can physically cross from the grid into a [music] car. In second place, Zeer. Its charging pile pushes 1,300 kW at 1,300 ampers and the entire system runs on full liquid cooling because at that current air simply cannot carry the heat away fast enough. In first place, BYD, the second generation flash charger, sends 1,500 kW down a single cable. It is the most powerful mass-roduced [music] direct current charger on the planet. Two machines. Now, put them next to the Porsche figure from earlier, 320 kW, and you can see the size of the gap.
So, what does hardware like that do to a real car? Take the link and company 10 plus built around a 900vt pack called the energy golden brick. Plugged in it pulls 1.1 megawatt. 10 to 80% takes 5 minutes and 32 seconds. 10 all the way to 97%. [music] Takes 8 minutes and 42 seconds. And that is the figure that matters [music] because 97% is a full tank not a marketing window. But there is one number left in this story and it does not belong to a charger at all. It belongs to a battery.
CL the largest battery manufacturer in the world says its Shenxing 3ack goes from 10 to 80% [music] in 3 minutes and 44 seconds. 3 minutes 44. [music] The fastest figure in this entire video.
And it comes from a company that builds no cars and no chargers. Which brings us to the thing almost nobody points out.
Ziker and link and company [music] are not rivals. Ziker owns link and company and both of them sit inside J. [music] So every machine you have just seen comes down to three companies B [music] Y D J G and C A TL. Not a country full of competitors.
Three names holding the rest of the world at a distance.
And now we arrive at the figure I promised you at the start. The one that makes every kilowatt reading in this video look like a distraction. In the middle of May 2026, the United States had roughly [music] 10 true 500 kowatt Tesla stations in operation holding 120 stalls between them. Add the Norwegian site that opened [music] in June with its 28 points and you are looking at something like 11 stations [music] and around 150 stalls worldwide. Now hold that against the network they sit inside. The Supercharger network passed 80,000 stalls globally this year. 150 out of 80,000. Less than one stall in 500. Now look east. BYD installed its 5,000th megawatt flash charging station and the company is targeting 20,000 stations by the end of 2026.
Not [music] stalls, stations. This is the sentence the entire video has been walking towards. Peak power is a headline. Deployment is a country. It does not matter how fast your best charger is if a driver has to cross three [music] states to reach one. China did not win this race by building a faster machine. Although it did build [music] one, China won it by building the machine and then building the nation around it in the same 18 months. [music] Every one of those numbers, by the way, is accurate to the dates I have just given you [music] in a race moving this quickly. A figure without a date attached to it is not information. It [music] is decoration.
Now if I stopped here I would be selling you a story rather [music] than telling you one. So let us put the other case because it is stronger than it looks.
Tesla is not losing this race through incompetence. [music] Tesla is playing a different game and by its own rules it is still ahead. Max Desgger, who runs charging engineering at the company, has said that a fully V4 configuration lets Tesla install a supercharger stall for under $40,000.
That figure is the whole strategy in one line. [music] Then there is the folding unit, which is a supercharger that arrives preassembled like flat [music] pack furniture. It installs in half the time, costs around 20% less to put in the ground, and 33% more of [music] them fit on a single lorry. Tesla is targeting the third quarter of 2026 for a full roll out across European motorways. And the network [music] those things are joining is already the largest and the most reliable on Earth, now open to Ford, General Motors, Rivian, Hyandai, and several Stellantis brands. So, the honest summary is this.
China has won on raw power decisively and probably permanently. Tesla is betting that the war is not decided by the strongest charger, but by the cheapest one you can plant in the ground fastest in the largest number of places.
Both of those can be true simultaneously.
Anybody who tells you only one of them is selling you something.
Which leaves one question and it is the one that will define the next 5 years of this industry. What happens when the folding units arrive at scale and the megawatt stations multiply and every manufacturer has a car that can swallow a thousand kow [music] because at that point the bottleneck stops being the battery. It stops being the cable. It stops being the cabinet.
It becomes the grid itself. A single 1,500 kW gun draws more power than a small block of flats. Put eight of them in one car park and you are drawing more than a village. The engineering problem is quietly migrating out of the car and into the [music] substation, out of the hands of the manufacturers and into the hands of the utility companies and the planning authorities. And those organizations do not move at Chinese speed. Nobody anywhere. The next world record will not be a charging time. It will [music] be a country that managed to connect the thing to the wall.
