The Shenyang J-15, also known as the Flying Shark, is a Chinese all-weather, twin-engine, carrier-based 4.5 generation multirole fighter aircraft developed by the Shenyang Aircraft Corporation (SAC) and the 601 Institute specifically for the People's Liberation Army Naval Air Force (PLANAF) to serve on the People's Liberation Army Navy's (PLAN) aircraft carriers. The Shandong is China's first domestically built aircraft carrier, launched on April 26, 2017, and represents the country's second aircraft carrier in service after the Liaoning. The J-15 is designed to operate from aircraft carriers and serves as a key component of China's naval aviation capabilities.
