Sprint Car Racing on the Menu
Added:Welcome back to T-MZ TV. We are sprint car racing. We're down here at Butler and it is their big event. It is $5,000 to win tonight.
Check it out. I got my GoPro case all done.
Just got one on the car. We got a polycarbonate lens on it with a little back cover. I need to tighten those up.
This place has a lot of rocks and I haven't even been running a forward camera because of the rocks. So, we're going to get a chance to test this thing out today at Butler. We're going to have cameras on the car pointed forward and we're going to see how strong that poly carbonid is on the lens protectors. So, this is a big week in racing uh with with the Kings Royal and that Joker's jackpot. They had the Dodie and uh they ran Fremont on Monday, the Dodie on Tuesday, and then Eldora Wednesday, Thursday, Friday, Saturday, Sunday.
Well, because of that, there's not a ton of local races going on. Butler is literally the only one going on unless you go to like Missouri or Wisconsin or Pennsylvania, basically. So, I am pumped to be at Butler going racing. Uh we didn't get to race last week. I just like I said, there just wasn't a ton of races and uh I'm glad we're back at the racetrack.
Yeah, Butler looks good right now. And uh man, I'm just happy to be racing.
Here's the track. I got the drone up earlier. Let's go ahead and run that footage. This place is very much a paper clip, but it's super high bank. I'm going to go ahead and say it's got 14° of banking. Maybe maybe more. All right.
So, I'm sure you guys are wondering why didn't we go to Eldora? Well, you know, there's the local scene and then your national touring scene, okay? And if if you're a national touring guide, High Limit, Outlaws, uh you know, you could maybe call Allstars, um Power Eye, ASCS, you know, those guys are they have really good equipment, really good motors, and they're budgeted for the year to run all these big races.
Um, man, if you don't have one of those cars, if you're not on the tour with everybody, it's probably not a a good idea to go to Eldora and try to just make the show. They had 60 cars there. And I promise you, I would totally be there. I would have went to Fremont. I would have went to Attica. Don couldn't go to Fremont or Attica. Stan didn't want to go to Fremont or Adica. And uh, man, those are the two guys I drive for. So, if you know anybody looking for a driver, you know anybody that wants to go wing racing or non-wing racing, I could be your guy. I would love that. Um, you know, going to Knoxville last year, that that really hurt my non-wing sprint car deal because everybody kind of forgot about me. Thank goodness for Landon Simon. We're going to go do sprint week next week. Um, some of sprint week, I should say. We're going to do IMS, Circle City, Puthamville, and Peragan for sure. I'm going to try to talk him into doing like Circle City.
So, back in the non-wing car next week and uh tonight we're at Butler.
All right, we just got done with engine heat and they just started qualifying, but we drew like a 93, so we're one of the last cars out. Um, and this is a typical Butler format. No hot laps right into qualifying. Three laps of qualifying and into the heat races. So, we'll see you on the track.
Heat up here.
I wanted to try out our new wing slider, but I wanted to wait until after my lap.
So, I wait until the flag stand, try to grab the handle, miss my entry cuz I drive with my left hand. I had to turn it in with my right. Drive it off the track. I don't crash it. Back at it.
Let's get back on the track and lace rip one more corner.
Going over fuel sheets. The ADR sucks.
And we just got done with qualifying and the thing didn't rip which put us behind. I I feel like a lot of it for us is just no practice, you know, and so then the motor doesn't get up to real temperature back to our fueling. Man, these things are so dependent on the air. Okay, so we we have this this air checker. You check the air and if you're lucky enough to go to Tim Engler's or the Midwest Dino Services, you'll end up with this dino sheet that tells you, you know, the elevation. You know, it starts at -600 ft and finishes at 10,000 ft, you know, so you got everything in between to adjust your fuel system. So, we were just going over that because it just didn't rip down the straightaway and he had the high speed at like 115 and the sheet says that it needs to be closer to 109. So, we're going to lower that. And what that means for me is down the straightaway if the high speed doesn't blow off and return more fuel to the tank, it keeps pushing it into the motor, which keeps it super rich. Once the high-speed pops halfway down the straightaway and goes back to the tank, it leans what's going to the motor out, which it's kind of a backwards system, but I've been doing this a minute.
So, we also made a quick bar change. Um, I was a little free on entry, so we put a stiffer left front bar in it. That should help stick the right rear on entry. And I want to tell everybody what I do to the race car. I want to talk setup in theory, non-wing and wing and [ __ ] and pavement [ __ ] I mean, I want to tell you that, but I am driving for people who have thousands and thousands of dollars into their race program. So, I really can't be a be that open mouth, okay? Like, I can't. So, I want to I really want to I have so many good ideas and theories um depending on the tracks, bank tracks, slick tracks, bump stops, no bump stops, shock limiters. Man, I have really put my homework in on this race car, okay? Like, I put all of my attention on it, but I'm I'm at a I'm driving for other people and I just can't tell you guys what I do. If you want to know what somebody does, Caleb Montgomery, he's got a YouTube channel. And um hey, if you're watching Caleb, maybe like talk to the camera in between you go into the heats and the main practice, you know, kind of like what I'm doing here because his content is amazing on Facebook. He tells everybody everything about his setup. I think it's like $10 to join his little service. Um and that's awesome because he's able to do that. I am not I don't drive for my parents. So Don really does care what I say about setup.
And Tim Engingler, man, I could not talk [ __ ] theory, you know, over at Brian Sies. No, that thing was like that thing was like a science project. It had so much trick [ __ ] on it. Okay, so I'm I'm a little bit in between a rock and a hard place with that, but I'm coming up with ways I need to start talking about race theory and and all these different things, you know, because There's so much a driver can do in the race car, but it's knowing when to do it and where to do it. And some ideas of some content that you guys might like to hear about, whether it's setup or um driving, coaching, tips, whatever. I don't really know, man. I've been been kind of on the struggle bus cuz I haven't been racing as much as I want to and I'm about to have to catch a real job. And so if you are interested in talking to me, having me be a driver coach or somebody you need to run ideas about your [ __ ] your sprint car, your wing car. Um, man, I want to leave my phone number, but it's probably best if I leave my email. T Messerol Mes Lgmail.
Shoot me an email. I always check my email.
I've been getting a bunch of like uh product reviews, the the scooters. I'm getting ready to do I got a little F1 uh little kids car for the baby. It's got a remote controller. I'm going to work on that this week. And honestly, I've been doing a lot of content creating whether it's for USA or for driven neutropics.
Uh man, go check those guys out. I already had my full throttle pack because it just gives me some extra fire. And I know I say this, but I'm telling you what, you do not understand.
If you have a long day ahead of you and you know it's going to be one of those just kick your butt type of day, you need to go check out this boost, fuel, and focus. Man, this stuff really kicks you in the butt and get you moving, get you focused. Um, and they have this full throttle pack and it has creatine, it has the focus, the boost, um, and the peak performance. It's got five different gummies, two creatine, and they really it's it's so effective.
Dawn, he doesn't go out into the shop unless he's got a full throttle pack in him cuz that gets him motivated. He gets work done and you get more work done than you typically would.
Not the restart I wanted, but thank goodness the flagman didn't like it either. We're going to rerack them and go again.
Well, we're already one spot better than the last start. We're running fifth.
We're now running fourth. Then we're underneath third.
Oh yeah. Despite a terrible qualifying session, we're rolling in this heat race and we're running third. And that's going to put us in a lot better spot than just finishing sixth where I started.
All right, we just got done with the heat race and we had a really good heat race for as slick as it is tonight. I'm telling you what, this place is slick.
Uh we started six, we got to third. We needed to do that cuz I qualified 18.
So that moved me up a bunch. So now we're starting ninth in the feature. Um and it seemed like the bottom was really good.
So that's always good. But man, I I tried some stuff and the car was so tight to the center.
Big fan of trying new things. And so we didn't do the same thing we did last time. Even though last time we were here, we were really good. We were contending for a win. But I've been wanting to try some other stuff with my shocks. That's why I took my shock apart. Did some magic in there. And that got me so tired. So, I'm We're over here banging our heads together. Me, Nathan, and Dawn all talking about how we can make this thing better. Whether we soften the right rebar up, whether we take stagger out. Um, we got a bump stop on the right rear tonight. Trying that a little bit.
So, it looks like it got into it, but I don't know for sure.
Oh, yeah. Racking my brain at the moment. I'm sure the guys love me filming them walking around holding a camera, shooting B-roll, and I appreciate Dawn and everybody I drive for for allowing me to do this cuz it is an inconvenience. Nobody really wants to be on camera. I don't mind it. I kind of have um a problem with talking a lot and uh yeah, it gives me an opportunity to do that.
>> Oh yeah.
>> Oh man, decisions, decisions.
We got a good game plan. Um we always kind of team player this. Me, Nathan, and Don, we work together. That's always the best way to do this is to all agree on something. And I even made a call to Tim Engler cuz we were a little bit hot.
Talked to Tim for a little bit. We richened the fuel system up. Uh, a couple points on the main pill, couple points richer on the highspeed pill. And we gave it a half turn. 30 235 after that heat. Potentially a 40lap race cuz this is their $5,000 wind show. So, we want to make sure this thing doesn't get hot. And it is main event time. This is the four wide salute to the fans. We're going to get all lined up and we are going green.
Putting the car in a bad position is a good way to crash the race car. And you see people do it all the time. So I'm a little bit over cautious in this situation.
Time to get this thing hooked up. I get a little bit of the wing right there.
That pulls the wing back 3 in cuz I'm a little bit free when I'm in dirty air.
If the left front isn't getting down, it doesn't enter and stick to the car in my opinion.
We catch a yellow and I needed that. I was able to pull the wing back some more. I looked up at it. We were halfway back. That's going to help give me some drive cuz I was losing drive and I lost a couple spots. So, let's go forward here. Stay with me. It gets better. We go forward.
Now that I have the wing back, it's trying to fly the right front.
And it's so cool. How cool is that? How cool are sprint cars? I love sprint cars. I love driving sprint cars on the weekends and going and playing with my friends. I'm a little trying to fly the nose there, but dirty air is not good.
It just the air really smashes the thing down. So, I change lanes and try to catch some clean air.
When you do that though, you really have to keep the tires underneath because you're running through the slick. When you do the ghost slider, Oh yeah, the sparks. That's rocks coming at me at like 150 mph.
Now that the wing is back, the thing is pretty good on the bottom of one and two and it's clean air.
We get another yellow. I get the wing back some more. And now I'm I'm start I think I got the wing all the way back.
This thing is a little bit flighty down the straightaway. And it makes it a little harder to enter. But look how stuck it is on the bottom. We pick off another car and uh we got some action in front of us. These guys are throwing slide jobs. The restarts rracks the field and it gives opportunity for this kind of racing. And then that gives me opportunity to go forward.
This was an interesting start because he catches that guy's right rear and it it kind of pushes him off a little bit and I just stuff it underneath him because that we're green and uh so we get a break and we get by the 25 car.
This thing looks like a non-wing car because the wing is so trunked that you can't even see it in the POV here. And that has me so tight on entry, but it's sticking me in the corner. And we are running sixth here. Working on fifth again.
She is sticking the bottom good. And it is slide job time.
Good little battle here. Little dicey.
And it's so easy to blow the tires off the corner on the bottom and you just don't have any momentum. So the top always wins. But we catch a break with this yellow and get a chance to rerack them again.
We're running sixth here, but these guys start racing each other and that gives me opportunity to get in there.
I should have bombed the slide job here, but there wasn't a ton of room with the other car there.
Oh yeah. Hook the bottom and stick it and rip it. We just plugged by fifth place. We're now running fifth place from like 12th cuz I fell back at the beginning.
Hey, thank you so much for clicking on the channel and watching and I hope you enjoy this amazing in-car footage.
It's always fun to create a story and put my audience in the car with me, how I kind of process things and I can do that through the videos.
Oh, what a blast. We had a lot of fun out there. We started ninth and worked our way up to fifth. Uh, this is their biggest show of of the summer, so feel pretty good about that. Some really good cars. Yeah, setup was really good. I got the wing trunk. We got a new wing slider, and that was amazing. Every time I pulled it back, the wing moved. Um, it even would go forward if I wanted it to, which I didn't. But yeah, so we were got the wing trunked and then the car was really good. Uh, man, the the surface here is just so dirty that it's easy to roast the tires off the thing, you know?
And then when you're following guys and you're your vision isn't amazing, it's even easier cuz when in doubt, throttle out. Okay? So, when I'm ever doubtful, hang that foot to the floor and let her sing. Okay? That's what you have to do.
That's how you get yourself out of trouble in this swing car. um stand the right rear up and when you do it turns left so that's it's always a good thing.
What did you say it paid?
>> $715 and this No, I know this is just half.
This is my This is my cut. [laughter] That's what I do it for, people.
Now, now it's time for me to get my stuff all cleaned up. And you can see what a mess. But how about this? The new GoPro cases. Boom. Solid. Every single one of them. This one. Literally, look how sandlasted that is. Crazy.
