An inclined plane (ramp) is a simple machine that makes it easier to move heavy objects by changing the direction of force, allowing objects to be rolled or pushed up a slope instead of lifted straight up, which reduces the effort needed to overcome gravity.

Roro, Dodo & Kiki: Building a Ramp for the Giant Watermelon!
Added:Good morning everyone.
>> Morning.
>> Are we ready for the picnic?
>> Ready to go.
>> All right team, there it is.
>> Quack quack. Let's be careful. Tweet.
Tweet. Tweet. Tweet.
>> All right, team. Let's find that giant watermelon.
>> Quack quack. Let's go. Please lead the way.
>> All right, the path is clear.
>> Look what I brought.
>> Excellent work.
>> Yeah. Quack- quack.
>> I found it. Come check it out.
Wow.
Oh my.
Good morning, team.
Quack quack purr.
>> Good morning, Dodo. Hi, guys.
>> Today is the perfect day for a picnic.
The weather is beautiful. Look at my big strong teeth. Dodo. So tired. Need a nap.
>> And my tummy is ready for delicious food.
>> Quack quack. Meow. Meow. The path is clear, friends.
Let's go.
>> I brought this stick.
waddling along. So exciting. Quack.
Just a little further. Quack.
Quack.
Quack. Quack. [laughter] You are right, Dodo.
>> I love picnics. Eating is my favorite hobby.
This is going to be so much fun.
I want to eat sweet berries, crunchy apples, and maybe a big cake. My chubby tummy is making a hungry sound. Rumble, grumble.
>> Quack quack. Meow.
M now your tummy is making so many noises.
Please do not talk so loudly about your tummy, Roro. But I agree with you. A nice calm picnic at the top of Picnic Hill sounds wonderful.
We can sit on the soft grass and look at the clouds. Let's go this way. Quack, quack. Yes, thank you.
I think I see something at the top of that hill.
What is it, Dodo?
Hello there. Are you all right?
Just having a yawn.
>> What is that?
>> Yay!
>> Hello.
[snorts] Look, there's baby beaver. He's got a big stick. Wow, you found a great one.
Yep, it's strong.
>> Chomp, chomp, chomp, chomp. Look who's here. I'm building something amazing.
Hi, everyone.
>> I am Baby Beaver. I am practicing my chewing.
Chewing wood makes my teeth very strong.
Where are you going? We're off on an adventure to find the giant watermelon.
>> Meow.
>> Hello, baby beaver.
>> Hi, Kiki.
>> We are going to the top of Picnic Hill to have a picnic.
>> We're having a picnic. Oh, boy. A picnic. Great idea.
>> Quack. We are going to eat a lot of yummy food.
Do you want to come with us?
>> Yes, I'd love to. [laughter] >> Yes, please. I love food.
But wait, we must wake up, my friend.
What's going on? Look, I found it. Oh my. Good work.
[snorts] [snorts] >> Look at him sleep. He'll never wake up in time.
>> Let's try calling him. Wake up, baby koala. Yawn.
[snorts] >> Oh, that noise. Ooh, so sleepy. What?
What's happening?
[groaning] >> Oh, hello. I am Baby Koala.
>> Is it time for a nap? I love naps. Okay, team. Let's do this. Yep, definitely.
And don't worry, my teeth are ready.
Let's go.
>> No, it is time for a picnic.
[music] >> We are going to the top of Picnic Hill.
[applause] Okay, I will come. A picnic sounds nice.
All right, team. This is the way to Picnic Hill.
>> Quack quack. Let's go.
>> Careful steps, everyone. Chomp, chomp.
All right, team. This way.
>> Quack quack. Quack quack.
>> How delightful.
Look at me go. Hi there. Watch this.
All right, everyone. This is the spot.
Cheerful quack. Yes, a lovely picnic area. Tada! The perfect sticks for the fire. Oh, I AM SO SLEEPY.
WOW, LOOK AT THE VIEW.
We made it to the top. I'm so proud of my strong teeth.
Look what I found. Yawns.
Wow, look at that.
I know it's enormous. Be careful. It's very large.
Oh. Oh, wow. Look at that. I can't believe it.
Quackqua.
Look at that. Qu. We found the picnic.
>> Look at the size of it. Wow. It's bigger than all of us combined.
>> We found it just like we planned.
Oh, look at it. It's so big. Wow. It's bigger than everything.
Oh my. That's enormous. Wow. Look at that. Wa! Check this out. It's awesome.
Wo!
[laughter] Whoa!
Whoa!
[laughter] Wow! That is the biggest fruit in the forest.
>> Look at this giant watermelon. It's bigger than all of us. So amazing.
[snorts] >> How delightful this smells.
>> Meow.
It is very large.
It smells sweet and fresh. It must be very juicy inside.
It is cold and smooth.
Yawn. [snorts] [groaning] It feels like a nice pillow. Can I sleep on it?
[laughter] >> I saw something amazing up there on the branch. Is that a koala?
>> He's so sleepy. No, baby koala. We cannot sleep on it. H. We need to roll it back home. Look. Whoa, it's so big.
>> We must eat it. A giant watermelon is the perfect dessert for our summer picnic.
Quack, quack. Oh boy. Oh boy. Oh boy.
Quack. Look at this. Quack.
>> Yes. Yes. Yes. My chubby tummy is singing a happy song.
You better stop right there, Roro.
>> Stop. But I want to eat the giant green ball right now.
>> Wait, Roro. We cannot eat it down here in the tall grass.
>> Why not?
Oh, I see. You see this tall grass here is causing some issues.
>> Look closely.
>> The picnic spot is at the top of picnic hill.
>> Quack, quack.
>> Oh, how exciting.
>> We must take the giant watermelon to the top of the hill.
>> Wow.
>> We can do it. All right, let's get to work.
The hill is very tall and the watermelon is very big.
>> Waddles and quacks.
>> Time for adventure.
Do not worry. I am very strong. I will carry it.
Okay, locked on. Let's do this.
Quack. Let's do this.
Quack. 1 2 3 up. Go. You can do it.
Almost there.
It's just too heavy.
O, it is heavier than a mountain of berries.
>> Don't worry, Rooro. My mighty teeth can handle it. Let me try.
Beavers are very strong. We carry heavy wood all day.
[laughter] We're here to help. Great. We need to move this watermelon.
>> Yes, let's do it.
pant [groaning] sigh.
It is too heavy. I could build a whole dam with this stick.
But that thing, it is heavier than a whole tree.
Perhaps if we work together, we can reach the top. Meow.
Let us try to lift it together. All right, team. Let's lift it on three.
One. Hooray.
>> Be careful. Two. We can do it. Yawn.
On the count of three, we will all lift.
Quack.
>> Ready. We can do it.
1 2 3.
L I T.
Push.
Come on. Heave. We can do this.
>> [groaning] >> Okay, team. All at once. Push. Heave.
It's moving.
[screaming] Oh no, not again.
Ouch. That is too heavy for our muscles.
The hill is very steep.
Walking up the hill is easy.
But carrying a giant heavy watermelon up the steep hill is impossible.
Oh no. What do I do now?
>> Quack. Goodbye, delicious giant watermelon. We cannot eat you.
>> My tummy is very sad. Oh, I'm sure it is, Rooro. I feel awful. Would a nap help you feel better?
>> Maybe we should just go to sleep here.
The ground is nice.
>> Stop, baby Koala. You can't sleep now.
>> No, team. We're not giving up yet.
We will not give up. Science never gives up.
We cannot carry the heavy watermelon and we cannot lift it.
But there is another way. A plan. Oh, goody. plan. Yes, a most brilliant one.
And we're going to need a beaver.
[laughter] >> Another way.
Another way. If we cannot lift it straight up, we will find a different path.
>> We are going to build something amazing to help us.
Look at the hill.
It goes straight up. Fighting gravity by lifting is too hard for us. We need to make the steep hill flat.
>> Quack. Make the hill flat.
But we are tiny. We cannot push a whole mountain down. My flat orange feet are not that strong.
If the hill is flat, I can roll to the top and sleep.
We will not push the mountain down.
Roro, we are going to use science.
>> We will build a simple machine. It is called an inclined plane. We can also call it a ramp. A ramp.
A ramp is a flat, smooth path that goes up slowly.
Watch closely as I show you.
>> If we put a ramp over the steep parts of the hill, we do not need to lift the watermelon. We can just roll it.
I understand. Rolling a round object on a smooth path is much easier than lifting it in the air.
>> Exactly.
All right, team. Here's the plan. You two grab a slice. You two clear the path. But we need materials to build our wooden ramp. We need lots of smooth, strong logs. I'm your [music] beaver for logs.
I am the greatest builder ever. Nobody builds like me. Logs, wood, sticks. I am an expert at wood. Beavers love wood.
[laughter] >> I will find the best logs for our ramp.
>> Quack. I will help you find the wood.
[laughter] >> We are a great team. Time for a real challenge. Look at this one. It's perfect. Woohoo. Now, let's get to work.
Jump. Chomp. Chomp.
Look what I made.
>> Wow.
>> Wow. That's amazing.
>> Wow, you are very fast, baby beaver.
>> Thank you, Roro. Quack, quack, quack.
Now you can carry this log to dodo.
Quack quack. Okay.
Got it.
>> Quack. It is a little heavy, but I can do it. [laughter] Waddling, waddling. Almost there.
Hooray. It's moving.
Meow.
I will find the thin branches.
We can use them to fill the small gaps in our ramp.
Together, we can do this.
>> Thank you.
>> No problem. Let's place them down.
>> [groaning] >> Hm. What's that noise? Hooray. It's working. We're doing it.
>> Can I help, too?
[laughter] >> Yes, baby. prepared.
>> Yes, baby koala.
>> You can be our tester. Hooray.
>> All right.
>> You can lie down on the logs to see if they are soft and smooth.
>> Quack. Yes.
>> They're built with my strong teeth.
>> Oh, okay. Sleepy time.
>> Okay.
>> [snorts] >> Yes, they are very smooth. Good job team.
>> Chomp, chomp, chomp. Quack, quack.
These logs are perfect.
>> Meow. Meow. Meow. I've gathered so many fine pieces. Wow. This will be the perfect support.
>> All right. Perfect. A little twist here.
Yes. Bam. Done. Look at that masterpiece. Keep going.
Almost there. Watch your step. We made it. [laughter] The ramp is finished. We built a bridge to the top. Wow, it's beautiful. Let's try it out.
Ah, that's better. All refreshed now.
Time for our giant picnic.
Quack, I'm hungry.
Let's [music] begin. Team, the ramp is finished.
Quack, quack.
Look at our beautiful inclined plane.
Quack, quack, quack.
>> [panting] >> Building a ramp makes me very hungry.
Can we eat the giant green dessert now?
Not yet, Rooro. We must go to the top of the hill first. We must roll the watermelon to the top of Picnic Hill. I know a way.
Let's go. [laughter] It is very long, but it is very smooth.
Let's try it.
>> All right, team. Ready?
>> Ready. Dodo. Quack.
>> Absolutely. Let's do this.
>> My teeth are ready. Just a moment. Let me gather my energy >> now. Everyone together. On three. Listen team. Gravity still wants to pull the watermelon down. Now push against it. So we must push together and we must not let go.
>> Quack.
>> Meow.
>> Meow.
>> If we let go, the watermelon will roll backwards.
Oh no.
>> If it rolls backwards, it will squish us like flat leaves.
Don't worry, Koala. Everything is going to be okay. Do not worry, baby koala.
Together, we will overcome this. Believe in us.
If we push together, we will not fail.
>> Everyone, put your hands, wings, and paws on the watermelon.
>> All right, team. Together now. Quack- quack. Excited? Let's begin. On three, everyone. Ready? One, two, three. Keep pushing, everyone. Almost there. So sleepy together. One, two, push. Quack, quack.
>> One, two, three, push.
>> Keep pushing.
>> Almost there.
>> Yes, we did it.
>> Keep pushing everyone. It's almost at the top.
>> We can do it.
>> Hooray.
>> Just a little further.
>> It is working. Meow. The inclined plane makes it so easy. See, I told you that simple machines are the best tools for the job.
>> Yes, we are changing the direction of the force. Push, team. Push.
>> Quack, quack. Woo!
>> It's moving.
>> Keep pushing, team. We're almost there.
>> Quack, quack. We can do this. Yes.
Slowly and carefully. Look at us go. I told you we could do it. Keep going. We are almost halfway.
>> Don't stop now. Almost there. Keep pushing.
My tummy is pushing very hard. I am dreaming of the sweet red juice inside.
>> Whoa. Are you okay? Be careful.
>> QUACK.
>> The ramp won't hold.
It's [snorts] going to fall.
>> Watch out.
>> No, the watermelon. It's coming down.
Oh no, it is rolling down. Gravity is pulling it.
>> Hold it. Hold it.
Look at my teeth.
need a nap.
>> I am strong. I will not let it fall.
We must stop it.
>> Hold on tight, little one. We're here to help.
>> Don't let go.
>> Be careful. The branch might not hold.
>> I am sorry. I am coming.
>> I've got it.
Pushing hard. Almost stopped.
We did it. Finally stopped. That was close.
That was very close. Everything is fine.
Let's keep going.
Let's go. Quack. Great teamwork, everyone. We caught it. Quack- quack.
Now, let's push it the rest of the way.
We are almost at the top.
>> Yes, we are.
1 2 3 P U S H >> We can do it.
>> Almost there. Push harder. Keep pushing.
We're almost there.
>> We can do it.
>> Hooray. We made it to the top. We did it. Look at that view.
>> Nap time. Tweet. Tweet. Tweet. Tweet.
Tweet. Tweet.
>> Keep pushing. Almost there. One last effort. We did it. Hooray!
>> Victorious! Success! We did it!
>> It's finally here! So tired, but so worth it! Now we can feast.
>> We did it! We did it!
We did it!
>> Phew, that was a lot of pushing. My chubby brown arms are tired. But the smooth wooden ramp made it possible.
We are great builders.
Meow.
We certainly are. The inclined plane worked perfectly.
Quack. We defeated gravity. And now it is time to eat. Hey, watch this. So [clears throat] sleepy.
>> It was very nice of you to push my green bed up the hill. Can I take a nap now?
>> Koala, wait. We need you.
>> Not yet, baby koala. First, we eat. Then you can nap. Now we will enjoy our grand summer picnic.
>> But wait, how do we open it? It does not have a door.
>> Leave it to me. I'll get it open with my strong teeth. I need a nap.
>> Chomp. Chewing.
Chewing.
I got it. HOORAY.
>> WOW. You are like a little saw, baby beaver. Thanks. I am very proud of my strong teeth.
>> One, two, three, pull.
>> Together now. One, two, three. Heave. We did it. Wow. Look at that.
This is it. Wow. So juicy. My teeth are tingling. So tired, but looks delicious.
It is a red treasure. Quack.
Let the picnic begin.
>> This is the best watermelon ever. Chomp chomp. Slurp.
>> So delicious >> and so incredibly big. More for everyone.
>> Quack. This is delicious.
>> [snorts] >> yawns.
[snorts] This is very pleasant, but Roro, please do not shake your head. You are splashing red juice on my clean gray fur. I'm sorry, Kiki. [laughter] Watch this. Yawn.
[laughter] Two. Hed to two. Gotcha.
I cannot move. I am a watermelon now.
Roll me down the hill, please. Science is a great tool, but teamwork and friendship are our real superpowers.
>> Quack. Meow.
