B-Cell Receptors (BCRs) and T-Cell Receptors (TCRs) are transmembrane proteins found on B cells and T cells respectively, serving as the primary antigen recognition molecules of the adaptive immune system; both consist of polypeptide chains and initiate intracellular signaling cascades upon antigen binding, but differ in their structural composition (BCRs have heavy and light chains forming membrane-bound immunoglobulins, while TCRs have alpha and beta chains), antigen presentation requirements (BCRs recognize free antigens directly while TCRs require antigen presentation via MHC molecules), and diversity generation mechanisms (both undergo genetic rearrangement, but BCRs also undergo class switching).
