“HACKED‑OFF BMW PIPES!”
Added:Here we have an attempt to help out a gentleman doing a bit of a restoration product on a four-cylinder something or other. I think he said the words BMW, but oh, I don't know. Must be an old car. I don't think it'll be a BMW motorcycle, but hey, it could be. And because it's got an oxygen sensor port.
Now, this port goes through the pipe work into there if you look up.
So, it's it's getting the gases from here to read back to some sort of computer.
Trouble is, he wants four pieces to go into here because that's where the um that's where the outlet pipes are.
But when I do that, I've got to weld them in the middle to stop them leaking.
Well, I can do it there, but how am I going to do it down the other end when it's inside that?
The official head scratch begins.

Well, having had a bit of a look at it, I think if I lose this center section, I can make the front of this a solid piece that'll slide in. And then we're worrying about the outside of it seal.
And the inside will already be sealed up between the four pieces of tubing.
Trim this back a little bit more if I need to to make sure I get good contact all the way around. The gases will still come in uh through the little hole here and the sensor will read it.
Is it going to work? I don't know. Best I can come up with. Let's see what happens.

This also needs to be cleaned up. It's stainless steel, and it's full of oil.
So, I'm going to burn it out using an oxidizing flame.
And then it can be given a buff. I don't care that it's an old piece of pipe work. It needs to be done properly.
[music] It needs to work. And this is going to give it its best chance.
All right. So, here we go. A little bit of flame treatment on this section for a start.
It is 30 304 grade stainless. So, I believe it certainly is not magnetic.
Could be 316, which would be a horrible thing.
Tell me how much I love Oxy. It's great.
I very rarely ever use oxygen.
Burn out any oil down in the truck.
Trying to weld anything.
All that smoky badness get out of there.
See how far the track really goes.
You see how it's also punching the foot and caring away like this clean very blow I'm never going to look a million days and I don't need it to be every chance possible to be as strong as it can be.
It should actually be on.
All right. So, after the uh the flame treatment, it's had the little wire brush out from the inside around the edges.
We'll see how it goes. I will need to buff around here a bit. So, I'll do that now. Well, now the uh intensive repair job has happened. And this was only to get it runnable.
Been all cleaned up as you've seen and then welded and then blended. I just want that penetration in there.
These have all been welded together in the middle and in the ends and then inserted to where I've scoloped it out.
Fully welded all the way around. They've got to have some sort of support. So they've got just got some tacking there between the pipes.
Very very unusual. Remember that is an inner and an outer with a gap like that and the oxygen sensor goes down through the middle.
Absolutely not a fun thing. But what can you do? You got to help someone.
Anyway, there's no M on it. There won't be um that darn thing knows every time I'm going to start recording.
Anyway, as I was saying, this can now be bolted up to the engine and he can run it.
So, if something just needs to be done so you can run an engine because right here, um, when it was belting out, he could have run it like that, but there was stuff that was going to become very damaged with the heat just running it. So, anyway, I've done that.
gentleman uh can come and collect it and continue doing the other things he's doing on it.
Just a quick repair really. Although it wasn't repair, it was a sort of reinvent a repair and it wasn't very quick. Um this took in excess of an hour. But anyway, it's done to customers satisfaction, I hope. Thanks for watching. Might have some more video content for you later, perhaps. We'll see.
