Dr. Kaufmann provides a necessary reality check on the rapamycin hype by exposing the stark trade-offs between longevity and cognitive health. It is a sobering reminder that biohacking often comes with physiological costs that the "miracle drug" narrative tends to ignore.

Anti-Aging Drug or Memory Killer? The Truth About Rapamycin本站添加:
And then the last one on the list is rapamycin. Okay. Rapamycin, of course, is the the big mTOR inhibitor. And the problem with mTOR is that it is a pathway, so this is actually in the pathways category. And it mTOR builds things. It causes you to build muscle, turnover cells, all that sort of thing, right? It senses nutrients and builds.
So, if you block it, you don't build things. So, as a consequence, people who are on it, you know, for long-term for real medical issues, they get sarcopenic, meaning muscle wasting. They don't get turnover in a hippocampus, meaning you get memory problems. If you give it to mice, there's all sorts of issues that you can demonstrate in terms of brain function. On the other hand, people like to think that it does some good things, which it does, right? So, it it is a very fine line between how much is okay and how much isn't. And so, people are trying to come up with all of these protocols like take 2 mg like every other Monday or something of that nature. And I think that it's a risky game to play. At this juncture in my life, I am not willing to risk losing hippocampal turnover and my memory. Nor do I want to be sarcopenic because I am an athlete. Therefore, I've chosen not to take rapamycin. I think ultimately we'll get rapalogs that we can sort of sort out the good and the bad, and when that occurs, you know, then I think it's going to be a different game. But for right now, I am anti-rapamycin.
