In political debates, candidates' credibility is significantly affected by their consistency and the media's responsibility to provide context. When candidates make claims about policies they cannot implement (such as abolishing federal agencies like ICE), it raises questions about their understanding of governmental authority. Media organizations play a crucial role in helping voters understand the implications of candidates' positions by providing historical context and explaining why certain policies have failed in other jurisdictions.

Chaos at Puerto Rican festival
Added:Okay, here we go.
And we're Yes, we are live.
Just want to double check. I think audio is going to be I think it's going to be fine. Just like to double check it. And right now on this Monday, [clears throat] excuse me. And it is fine. Was quite a night last night.
quite a uh third world celebration on Broad Street. I want to um just explain I I know I know that the uh Puerto Rican festival I'm I'm well aware that that it was India Point Park, but afterwards they all Hi there Cara.
They all ended up on Broad Street and uh I'm going to play some of the video of it [clears throat and cough] and certainly in um there's Chuck. Um yes, certainly was chaotic there's David. I want to single out folks what a valuable part of the program David San Martino is. David and I have been partners now. David shared my vision before the live stream. We started doing it way before anyone else.
David is uh become such a good friend.
He has a beautiful family and uh he is just a joy to work with and there's nobody better.
So, it's good to see you, David. I was thinking of you. Class act and um so diligent. Absolutely. It's David San Martino Day here on the program. Um, just the greatest. He and I are partners. It's like Batman and Robin. So huge, huge. Especially during the um the Charlotte Lester case. All right, I want to play. Let's go to some of the video tape. You know, it's interesting. I saw um some people were, you know, posting uh commenting like, "Oh, you know, it's like I was hiding in the car." Yes. As a matter of fact, last night it was like being in the middle of a riot. Yes.
Thank you, David. Look at that. It's a love fest, folks. The program, it's about love. It really is. All right, let's go to You know, this to me is also the theme. I have a couple videos I'm going to This is what we're led to believe. Look at this.
Does that seem like an American festival?
seems very third world, usual suspects.
I'm well aware this was on Broad Street.
These were all people. Gee, I wonder where they were coming from. We didn't have this with the Tartami when uh Scotland was in town, did we? No. Think of all the World Cup uh countries that came through America and they enjoyed it.
And then we have this on Broad Street.
seem to be. And by the way, I am a aware that Puerto Rico, it is a territory of the United States.
But between traffic jams, this was like being in a riot.
Girls fighting, women fighting. Let me explain something to some of the people that have arrived here or that's right or others. This isn't how we maybe this is how you behave in a territory of the United States, but I will take some um I I I'll I'll take some of the tartan army any point. I want to point out where are the videos of this? Where are the videos of this? I see people posting this. How come I don't see any videos? There were a lot of people in Cranston. Where were the videos? Here's here's what I'm going to say between now and the end of the program. Either produce a video or it didn't happen because I haven't heard that from the Cranston police. So, how come I don't see [clears throat] how come my Facebook feed isn't filled with fights from the St. Mary's feast? So, here's what we're going to say. And I'm not trying to come down on Trisha, but like produce it.
Show me All those people. There must be Hi there, Jane Rice. There must be video of it, right? How do you know that? Let me ask you a question, Trisha. How do you know that? Where's the video? Do you Oh, the people in Cranston didn't have phones. They weren't filming it. Is that what we're to believe?
There's Kristen Ferry. I don't believe that. Show me. Show me. There were fights at St. Mary's. Oh, where are they? How come there were How come there's no video of it?
How come there's no video of it?
Yeah. Yeah. Food fight maybe. Where is it? Show me. I haven't seen any.
I don't Is that supposed to be? Yeah.
But is that what that is? Is that like a soft defense?
So, as I'm showing video of the riot on Broad Street, someone wants to say there were fight where where's the video?
Where's the video? Or is that just an empty statement?
No, no, no, no. I have video. I was in the midst of the fights last night on Broad Street. Notice silence. Soon as you ask for evidence, silence.
Terrible.
Absolutely atrocious.
And I was in the middle of it. I have video. Oh, okay. Oh, there's videos circulating on Facebook. You'll have to find them. Well, you know, maybe need someone needs to go in timeout.
Maybe from now on we we have our proof before we make statements like that.
Just a thought. Something needs to be done. If David Morales make you know what's interesting about this was um last night the Puerto Rican festival on um the Puerto Rican festival in downtown Providence.
So yeah. Yep.
Oh, okay. We weren't. Oh, you'll find them. Maybe take the rest of the afternoon off before we start making statements that we can't back up.
Listen, there were people posting on these videos. Why were the police there?
>> This is broad in some people.
>> What were the police doing there? Gee, I don't know.
All right. I don't don't don't post it in the comment. That that's not going to go anyway. All right. I asked one person. You can send them to me uh direct message.
So yeah, they want to have less police.
They want to have less police in the city.
>> [music] >> All right. There there's a limit to how much that I can um admittedly that I can tolerate.
You know, I believe, just hear me out. I believe when you have a situation like that that you saw last night and yes that I I think it is incumbent on elected officials to use the situation as a teachable moment as a teachable moment to explain to people that's not how we behave when we're at a public in public. There are other videos, by the way, of this Puerto Rican um festival.
So, there are other videos and there's girls fighting and there's girls pulling here. I I am telling you it is I'll take Scotland, the Tartan Army any day over the stuff that was that was going on.
And but I I'll also be I I don't have a problem with all the um you know obviously they have all the Puerto Rican flags and I I don't have a problem with that. So that's right. So someone um that someone was saying where the American flags I you know on on St. Patrick's Day you see a lot of the Irish stuff. Um although that's a nationality on on Columbus Day you see a lot of the you know the Italian flag. I I don't have so much a problem with flags. I'm talking about the behavior and some people just seem to chalk it up to as though you know that that type of behavior is totally acceptable and I don't I don't think it should be regarded that way. This portion of the program is brought to Quality Asphalt Seal Coding. Call Corey today 401283 98 That's right.

It's not even close the number of videos that are out there circulating regarding what happened in Providence last night on Broad Street after the Puerto Rican Pride Festival Day, whatever they call it. It started at um I believe it happened at India Point Park and then they ended up they ended up um on Broad Street. So I I also want to be very clear. I didn't take to the airwaves saying and there was no trouble at the St. Mary's feast. So some of you I I I I strongly implore various people remember you you don't have to type in comments.
It's not mandatory.
It's not a test that you have to fill in blanks.
So there's no reason to start putting I didn't I didn't say and there wasn't any trouble at I didn't say that. So whenever you have some huge large gathering the Cranston St. Mary's feast that started on Thursday night and as far as I know there was no trouble on Thursday night. There was no trouble on Friday night. Saturday night they had a rain night. Maybe there was I, you know, I I'm telling you, some people try to hijack things and just take over. And I I just there there's there's a limit. That's all I'm going to say is there's a limit. So, I'll look at them at the top of the hour, but that's not what we're that's not what we're focused on right now. So, we're focusing on Get my kids back.
Good. There you are.
All right. I want to say this. I will reach out to I will reach out yes to Cranson police.
there w that it looks like there was one fight and I'll find out who was arrested. I will do that. So, but it it I am telling you basically the [music] [singing] [music] >> [singing] >> I was filming that and everything came to a halt. Um, here's the thing. I'll go through the uh video.
I don't know. I'll go through the um That's right. I'll go through the uh Cranson video at the top of the hour. I don't know what the language is and and so I did know what the language was there and I'll follow up. Um I someone sent me a message thought there was trouble. I'll say that I didn't receive anything yet from Cranston police, but what the video that I just saw regarding St. near is it was it pales in comparison to the riot that you saw um on Broad Street. And by the way, the St. Mary's feast. Gee, what a surprise.
Seems to be a lot of the same type of individuals that we also saw on Broad Street. At least it seemed to be. So, I'll double check it. I don't understand though.
There's it's a night and day difference between the two. Folks, this portion of the program I think it's time for someone to go and time out. This portion of the program is brought to you by Servepro of Providence. Call Servepro of Providence today. Now remember, when disaster strikes, you can depend on ServePro of Providence. 4019415500.
Serve Pro of Providence. As far as the feast in Cranston St. Mary's, I can tell you that uh by and large, for the most part, over 4 days, they had very little to no trouble. It does seem last night at the end of it that there was some kind of an altercation. I'm going to guess I will reach out to Cranston police. Uh I'm going to guess the individuals that were involved are not people from Cranston. I want to um come back to you know the the World Cup that just wrapped up was just so successful and huge and around the world everything saying wow America is where we should always have it. We should always just hold the World Cup in North America. I mean yesterday or over the weekend I should say you know the finals were New York New Jersey but by and large between being in Texas obviously Gillette Stadium became Boston Stadium in LA and Seattle and I think they were in St. Louis and Atlanta.
Um I think Kansas City but definitely Texas. I mean just all over the country and and I did say I think Miami and the Europeans loved it. and the Europeans were raving about America and so I think it was it was totally positive. So, um I think there's sometimes there are some people that just need to learn to quit while they're ahead. That would [clears throat] be my advice. Now, we are going to talk with uh Justin Katz, managing editor, anchorrising.com.
our segment politics this week and there's a lot because something that's going on right now is um the fact that you have someone this David Morales who wants to be the next mayor of Providence and the fact that he is pushing socialism and has said that he wants Providence to be a socialism experiment and he said that at a fundraiser in New York.
And one of the things that I'll mention about socialism is I I don't think I let me let me say this. I believe there should be more of an effort to educate people to why socialism doesn't work. Because I think there's a lot of people that when it's explained to them, it sounds like something that they would be interested in. And it sounds like, hey, that sounds fair. And yeah, you know, all these people are making money off our backs and you should spread it around and um yeah, and and we should do that and we should spread around the money. But what I think there needs to be uh lessons given because I think a lot of young people, they don't understand why socialism doesn't work. It sounds good.
He's Yeah, he's like social. It's like the community coming together and and that David Morales is a good example or he talks about is neighbors and sharing and spread you know share the wealth and it all sounds good but no one understands that when it's been tried it has failed in the country countries that it has failed in.
And so I think whether it's the Republican party or in this case mayors finally I I think more people um should in fact they should make an example and explain to people why it doesn't work. people know maybe actually people don't know why Venezuela collapsed the way it did but um it's just one of those things I I think need more needs to be explained why socialism does not work why when you just start you people lose their initiative when you start to take money and nobody if somebody goes to work they get a certain amount amount of money and if someone doesn't go to work they get the same amount of money and that's one of the reasons why it does not I'm seeing um look at that Alio All right we are um in the radio part hold on folks I want to just check I'll take one more Okay, let me play. Um, oh, good.
Okay, hold on.
Okay.
Just see what else.
You know, I I don't understand.
But how th this is not There's nothing family friendly about That's a good way to say it. There's nothing family friendly.
Yes, that's right.
But the problem is it is taking hold and especially amongst young people.
I just think this is absolutely forceful.
Um there's there's a lot of different events. It's also daylight.
And I'm not saying that they, you know, [music] [music] again, may maybe a lot of people say, um, you know, oh, they're they're just having a good time. They're just celebrating.
you know. Okay. So, this was like an ongoing riot and not even a show [laughter] nonstop. And this was, as I mentioned, one day was going on, you know, but I I mean it as far as there should be more of um there should be I think there should be more of an effort to educate people why socialism doesn't work because I think on the face of it, they they make it sound as though, yeah, you know, it's there and it kind of goes for everybody and and it's kind of that AOC uh attitude of you know you you didn't you didn't make $1 billion. It's it's definitely like that. Um, but my point is I hear a lot of people that are running for office and other people saying, you know, David Morales, who's running for mayor of Providence, he's a socialist.
But I don't hear people explaining why it would be bad in Providence for Providence to become and allow a socialist mayor. The first thing I'll say one thing about David Morales. He's pretty well spoken.
He claims that he went to Brown University and the fact of the matter is he's not doing great in a lot of the there was a debate but but he's also he's not doing terrible as a matter of fact. So he Okay, so maybe this time he could come up short. I noticed that that that channel 12 debate and I'll add some of the sound. The fact that he's being endorsed by the teachers union is frightening. The fact that he's, you know, running for mayor and carrying a sign like that. I have a problem with and I'm going to talk to we're going to talk to Justin Katz about this, but for Channel 12 to even say to him, one of the questions at their mayoral debate on channel 12 was, "Do you support abolishing ICE?" like why is that even being asked other than it's to me it's a little bit of because they have no power to do that.
Um I everyone you know it's channel 12 Tim White Ted Ted they obviously they can do whatever type of debate they want but why why would that would there be a debate where you'd say are you in favor of abolishing the FBI?
Are you in favor of abolishing the IRS?
Folks, this portion of our program and right now we're live on AM13809.9 FM. You can always listen online at our website which is dupitro.com. We're live on Facebook and YouTube and X. Check out.com which is brought to you by the Kois in 226 Kis Avenue West. Remember lunch, dinner, drinks, lounge. They also now have the coffee at Kisid. you can depend and you're going to love it at the Khisa in. And let me also uh remind you about Propane Plus. Propane Plus serving Rhode Island in Massachusetts. I'll tell you the Johnson family, what a fantastic job they do with Propane Plus. Uh log on.
They're available 247 and always online at propaneplus.com.
You can depend for all your heating and cooling. you can depend on propane plus.
So the question that they had in the channel 12 debate is do you support abolishing ICE? The the problem I have with that is number one, it's it's a non-starter.
To me, I I think I understand why they did it.
And that is [clears throat] because you have Mayor Smiley, Democrat, you had that person, David Morales, Democrat, and they're in a Democrat, and you have them in a primary. So they're trying to distinguish certain things and issues I should say that separate them that make them different because many times with some of these Democrat debates there's very little to almost no difference between them. But the problem I have with it is then go down the line with like that that that's so preposterous. So you know the question that and then people are saying you know Smiley kind of tripped up on answering that.
Do you what what they whether you're the mayor or you're the lieutenant governor you have no say over a federal government agency.
So why is the question even I I don't even understand why the question is being asked. It doesn't matter if you're a a governor or anyone. You you don't have the power to abolish ICE. So why is that being asked other than let's really separate the two. And apparently amongst progressives and socialists and a lot of Democrats, they do want to do that, but it's it's a non-starter.
Like I was saying, you know, then why not say to Morales, "Are you in favor of abolishing the IRS? Are you in favor of abolishing the FBI?
Are you in favor of abolishing ATF?"
Even if they said yes, it's not going anywhere. It's not going anywhere. you know, they don't have that kind of power.
They even even if you know, even if Governor McKe said, "Yeah, I'm in favor of we're going to abolish ICE." He he doesn't have the right to do that. And one of the things why um so many of these progressive whether it's a mayor or some of the governors or others whether it's Mayor Woo the mayor of Boston or Governor Healey one of the reasons they get it so upset is because they don't have control. ICE can go into their community and they can get the different individuals that they're looking for. So they have no authority over them. So why would it even be phrased that way? I think I may bring up uh that question within the debate. I I didn't I don't get it. And again, let me say as I've said before, uh obviously they're running the debate. They have every right to do that. But I I I think, you know, they would call out someone that doesn't have the the right to implement certain things. So, I don't know why they would allow that. When Sabina Matau says, "I would abolish ICE." So now you have Morales saying it. But it's it's it's false. It's a false promise. Folks, it's time. Let's bring him on. He is the managing editor of ankorising.com.
And it is, Hold on. There we go. It is Justin Catz. Justin, I want to um start off just get your thoughts on, if you don't mind, a little jump off on what I was just mentioning and the the fact that it's even as a debate and any thought thoughts you have on uh this debate that took place between Mayor Smiley and his socialist challenger David Morales.
But what what I find most striking about it and the clearest message to me is it's it's very easy to be David Morales in a debate like this. And the reason is because our system I think as you were just discussing the journalists but also voters even we're not requiring serious maturity on the part of our candidates.
I mean it's it extends to his his his resume. I mean, a guy has got no legitimate claim to being able to run a city, but he's getting away with being politically savvy and running and so forth. Is that kind of thing? So, he can get out there and say anything. We need to abolish ICE. And then, of course, the more moderate, but still radical Mayor Smiley looks like he's hedging or something when he offers a more mature considered response, which is the part that I think is still silly is that we have to protect our citizens from ICE, and I've been doing that. But then he says things like, "We need border border security. We need law enforcement."
These are not radical strange positions he should not hold. But he ums he h he seems a little awkward because he doesn't I think a lot of our standard politicians don't know how to address this this reality where they're facing people who are just cartoons in in suits up there for debate being treated as if they're they're credible people.
You know, Justin, and you and I have talked about this, Morales, these codes they use such as everyone's a neighbor.
We're going to protect our neighbors.
Justin, what do you make of the fact that David Morales, socialist now, we're going to talk about that. I don't think that's fleshed out enough. I don't think the media has done their job to fully explain to people and really vet what are the consequences and the countries that have failed. Socialism has always failed. Um, but what do you make of the fact he goes to a fundraiser in New York and they introduce him as David as mayor will Providence will become a laboratory for socialism?
>> Well, the code where it it goes to this it's like the news media has been ignoring a lot of this sort of rhetoric rhetoric for years because they they could get away with it. The average person knew what socialism was, was against it, so they they didn't have to warn about it.
Right. At this point, they're leaving their their people entirely uninformed, their viewers, their readers. As you say, socialism has failed. This ought to be a constant question to somebody like David Morales. Right. If if if you're talking about objective questions you should ask a candidate for office, what do you think about the failure of socialism? Instead, you get what we saw with Mami in New York. Uh with a lot of the questions that would be directed to him, he would just, oh, you know what?
It was as if he had no past. His ideology had no hit record. He was just just a nice guy using these words. You know, the the past Mao doesn't really apply. Uh there's a a socialist uh podcaster who's getting some heat on social media right now because he wore a an outfit like a militaristic outfit like Mao while speaking to a college a group of college students. This is just ignored. To them, it's just like play acting. Even even some Republicans and conservatives I talked to say, you know, they're they're almost cute. These progressives, they're they're just it's like they're play acting. Well, no.
Eventually they're not. when they start to take over major cities, they're not play acting anymore, but they still get that pass. Like, nobody takes that really seriously. That's well, we're going to put that in the category of David Morales like his professional wrestling career, right? That's just something fun he does. Socialism is just something fun he says. And I think it's it's does a disservice because these are very dangerous policies they're enacting. Uh, and we see it already being enacted with such as rent control and that sort of thing in parts of the country. this is what we're getting. And you're starting to see um Democrats from Clinton administration, from the Obama administration, even um what's his name?
The the black progressive uh who's been on CNN, uh Van Jones, even he's coming out.
>> Yeah, even he's coming out and saying, "Wait a second. I'm not on board with these crazy socialists." But if you're watching news in Rhode Island or watching these debates, you have no sense that that's the context in which David Morales is doing his little performance.
you know, uh, Bill Maher was interviewed, uh, on ABC's this week, uh, with Stephanopoulos, but with Jonathan Carlin, one of the things he said is he said, you know, I don't think people fully understand that a lot of the socialists and progressives, they're talking about abolishing prisons. I mean, that's how extreme it is. But Justin, I want to go back to the Channel 12 debate where they even said to like Mayor Smiley, uh, you know, don't you think you're running a deceptive ad saying that he claims he wants to defund the police even though he has reversed that? And Mayor Smiley, to his credit, like my my reaction, Justin, is why is the mayor the one on the defensive? As he pointed out, David Morales in 2021 came out and said, "Defund the police."
in all these years that he's been a state rep, he has never veered off that or changed a position. Suddenly, he's running for mayor and he says, you know, I I don't fully uh embrace that anymore.
But why should we believe him? And if anything, the policies and the people he support lead us to believe that he did still, you know, believe that. But my point is, why is the mayor the one on the hot seat on that?
>> Yeah. Well, it's it's as if we we just turn off our our intelligence or at least the journalists do who conduct these debates. I mean, he's said it in the past. He's even here saying abolish ICE. You know, it's it's a cons. The mayor comes out on the ICE question says we need law enforcement and secure borders. The obvious question is, well, what about that, Mr. Morales? Should we do we need enforcement? Do we need and the answer is obviously no. There's a consistent pattern that anybody with two brain cells can put together and see that this is what the socialists believe. They'll say whatever they can get away with. Which is why to to your early earlier point I've written this week on anchor rising. You can't trust them to say oh there's a difference between socialist and democratic socialist and communist. They'll say whatever. Socialist just means I'm not willing to say my full communist beliefs yet because that'll invalidate me. Wait until I'm in charge and then I'll be a full communist. That's what it means.
It's obvious. It's easy to see. And this is what people in journalism, especially when you're making your full-time career on a supposedly objective news station conducting debates as a supposedly objective moderator, you need to sus out these these this context so people can understand this kid has no credibility.
He's just saying whatever he thinks needs to be said at the moment. And his record is completely contrary.
And con contrast that with Smiley whom though I don't like his policies at all, he's been consistent. He's a wonky progressive. That's who he is. There's no inconsistency there. And as you say, why should he be on the defensive? It should be Morales. You kid with no job history. You have to explain to our viewers why they should trust anything you say in this debate. Instead, it's bizarre. I don't know if if a lot of progressive money is just flowing into WPRI at this point, so they have to pretend he's a credible candidate. Or if they're really just that far gone, or if they think it'll generate better news if they put the mayor on defensive. Or maybe they don't take Morales seriously.
He's like the guy in New York 10 years ago was just the rent's too high. That was his whole platform. The rent's too high. They didn't take him seriously, so he could let him on the stage and sort of do his little shtick. Maybe that's how they see Morales, but that's very irresponsible on their part. Now, Justin, um Ramona Bessinger, who you and I both know, um she's was a teacher. I'm not sure if she's still a teacher. She posted, uh that Sabina Matau spoke, I think, at North Kingtown school where one of her children were. And she just posted that on Facebook and actually she doesn't hold a position. She's not a position of authority. She's not an elected official. And boy, the Providence Journal and others did they go after her and they allowed Sabina Matoss's husband uh to do an op-ed and the Providence Journal going after her and attacking her. And um you know I I hate to get into if it was the other side, but I I I'm just curious to hear your thoughts on to me that's like they view her as almost like a Nicole Solace and in in their world anyone that speaks out in that manner becomes fair game.
>> Right. Well, I think I think two things are shown here. For one, in the media's perspective, they need this whole white supremacy thing. They they need that to be out there. They need there to be this crazy right-wing that's always just on the verge of power because it's we're so ridiculously overwhelmed by progressives and socialists at this point. They they need that. That's why when there's real like a float with real from the from radical in the gay pride parade talking about you know death and assassination and executions that you know that's a little bit of this well it's a maybe if the mayor sees it that'll be an issue but if if there's a pamphlet on the street that says white supremacy oh well that's that's indicative of everything that's going so they need that but what what's really striking and it goes along with David Morales trying to get credit for Mayor Smiley's postcard that that had a dark picture that they're saying it was a racist card. Both that and this because it was Patrick Ward, Amatoss's husband who really came out with an op-ed. I have to defend my wife. They see being attacked or criticized as an advantage. They see it as an opportunity. Oh, they're making fun of the fact that you can't speak clear English and that you're a far-left progressive. Okay, they're attacking you. Let's go promote that. You're the victim now. victimization is power in their millure in their in their group.
And I think that that's really the the start and the finish of what you see. I mean, Ramona been, you know, she's a very pro puts things very provocatively.
She's she's very much up in front and in your face about issues she cares about more so than I I try to be because because of exactly this factor because once you do that maybe it gets your point across but it gives them this this ability to just sweep you away and make you as if you're just some stand-in cartoon character. Uh and as you say I don't even know if she's a teacher anymore. She may be somewhere. But in this case, I mean, she was a parent and I think she was raising legitimate questions as a parent. Like some of the things this woman was saying, I objected to. We were we're at our child's graduation and we're struggling to understand the speaker. I mean, the the degree the ability of a speaker to articulate in English should be a criterion for their being brought on as a speaker. That's a legitimate question.
But we're not allowed to ask those questions and instead they're, "Oh, we're victims." And they they try to capitalize on that presumably because Matoss is in a primary right now.
>> Yeah. And I I just don't understand. As I said, Ramona, she she doesn't hold elected office. She was just posting the stuff on social media. I agree with you.
It it was almost seen as an opportunity.
Let's really milk this. Let's put it out there. Let's make it that Sabina's under attack. Get some donations out of this.
Uh you know, give give her give her a chance. And I I think at the same time I view it, Justin, as this a shot across the bow that anyone in the Democrat primary that plans on attacking her, you know, you better think twice because otherwise they'll just start saying, "Oh, here we go again." You know, she's being attacked again. Justin, I'm also curious and again the local media, they're going to do what they're going to do. But um as DHS has threatened to withhold federal funding from states that don't cooperate with the Trump administration election security initiatives, the Rhode Island Secretary of State, this is Gabrielle Cashiola, tells me he won't hand over the private information of Rhode Island voters that made its uh way under News Nation.
Justin, the part about that that just stands out to me is what it's the it's the federal government. Like what are you talking about? You don't have private information. If if the government contacts you and says, "Hey, you know, according to our records, you didn't pay taxes the last five years."
You can't say, "Hey, that's my private information." You have a social security number, uh when you want to retire, when you're born, uh when you die, any dealings with the government. this business of it's as if they treat the federal government almost like they're like a private entity as if like it's no one's business. You know how what they're what is this private information that they're talking about and to me this is suspect of there's a reason why they don't want the federal government to look at our voter roles or vulgar information. Um what is your thought on that Justin? Well, exactly. And the the Democrats and especially the as progressives that they as they've become, they're not concerned about your private information as an individual.
They'll give anything to anybody.
They'll they'll hand your private information to Democrat donors if they can get away with it. They, as our fair election friends will say, they they give our election information to a private group, Eric, for for their services. I mean, that's that's stuff.
That's just what they do. This is so it's just political posturing to try to cover up the fact that they don't want to cooperate with the federal government in making sure that only people who are eligible to vote are voting. That's all there is to it. And what really stood out to me in that interview is how little information we get these days.
how how little how it's it's not I mean here you're talking about a specific statement from a specific secretary about specific funding sources for specific uh specific uh cooperation from the state if you don't know the background and you see this interview you have no idea what any of those specific things are you just know federal government bad wants private information me Greg and my good uh going to protect your information election security we're good you know that that's all you really get from it and Okay, fine. It's a short short form interview.
But that's not what a Secretary of State should be there to do. He should be there to explain. And the problem is if they start to explain, one, many Rhode Islanders are going to say, "No, Greg, give that over. We're good with that.
Thanks for thanks for looking out for us, but we're we're signing off on that." And two, it'll be exposed as just the the political posturing it is without any chance of cooperation. And that's the second part that really struck me. There's no conversation of is there some information? Is there some way to compromise? Is there something you could do to allay the federal government's concerns? It's just no.
They just want your private information for who knows what reason. And that's but it, as you say, it goes back to what are you hiding? Why not? Why is this so difficult? Why? especially if we're going to start losing funding on for that. We need that. If if we have to impose a millionaire's tax on houses, if we have to start imposing higher income taxes because we're so hurting for revenue, if we need tolls on trucks, maybe we should compromise a little to work with the federal government and get this revenue we need. But that's it's not it's like that whole thing just goes out out the window in this vague conversation.
>> But le let's talk about this just for another moment. But with voting short of okay the government I fully support the government doesn't have a right to know who you vote for who you voted for anything like that but short of that um people have a right to you know go back to um you know you have a right to know when did someone register to vote. uh they have a right to know where were you register you know did you have the proper paperwork if you moved around to to different states short of that like what I don't understand is the other states are cooperating that's really the to me the only thing that would need to be protected is the fact that that and it's it's not even as if the government wants that information. So to me, short of that, I just don't understand what the argument even is.
>> Oh, of of course not. There is no argument, which is probably why they're being vague. I mean, the federal government has our all of our private financial information, any businesses we have, it knows our families, it knows our where we live. Uh, it knows our driver's license numbers. It knows all this stuff. the the local Democrats are happy to push us into requiring real IDs and and uh diff different aspects of of federal identification. They're happy with all that. There is no argument that's it's to your point if they're not asking to know who you voted for, which the state doesn't know presumably.
>> Yeah, exactly. There's there should be no issue. And that that goes right back to it, which is why these these interviews should be much more heated when they when they ask Greg Mory in front of them.
>> Yeah. This private information. So, and one more thing it like so are we led to believe the states that are cooperating, they're providing private information of citizens of their states to the government. But my question comes back to what is this private information that these states are sharing because I don't believe that there is any private information. I think it comes down to there are people on our voter roles and Justin I've talked about this. I did a short post on detro.com about this, but it's far easier to get on our voter roles than people realize. I know everyone seems to focus on, you know, voter ID at the polls, but what I found is you can register online. You don't have to provide a real signature, just an X. You don't have to prove citizenship. Um, all you really need is a mailing address. I believe it's grounded in there were people on the voting roles who should not be voting.
You and I have also touched on uh it's basically an honor system. No one's going to tell me well no one would go against that because it's penalty of perjury if you were to vote and you're not a citizen. And you and I both know in the last 40 years that's never been enforced. One more thing about this that I find interesting is you had these people that were um you know involved with the signature scandal and all of it was then pled out and suspended sentenced and no one did jail time and I'll give credit you know go local they they had a story that there are some people from out of state and they got arrested with this no labels party now they're in serious trouble to me you know Mats campaign lieutenant Governor, go easy on them. Oh, these people from out of state and a no labels party.
Boom. One lady I think is is still locked up at the ACI. I'll give you the final word and then I want to go to Katz's corner.
>> Well, I think that that last story you picked you picked up was was very much on point. I mean, it shows there is incentive to cheat. There isn't. There's a reason to do it and it's not that hard. And what's hilarious about that in a in a dark way is that petitions to become a party or to get on the ballot are much more secure than mail ballots where there's there's none of these controls. And I think that that just goes to show the the danger we're in with with our election system.
>> Folks, it's time for Cats's Corner. This is a story that Justin Katz has found.
And what do you have this week, Justin?
>> Well, partly because it predicts something I wrote about just a couple weeks ago. I I noticed that a family in Jamestown is starting to say, "Wait a second. This Taylor Swift tax on on non-residential properties, that applies to us. We've lived here for a century, over a century. We we're we're not pop stars. They're starting to it's starting to dawn on people that this tax is going to be much more of an effect on them than just on some pop star somewhere else." So, I dug into that on Anchor Rising and I people should check that out. And Justin, one more thing about that that I, you know, find interesting, and I did mention this when it happened, and that is that, you know, the tax, I mean, it's ironic, the tax kicked in at the exact time that Taylor Swift donated 1 million to um, you know, to the Rhode Island Community Food Bank. So one of the benefits when you have very generous individuals philanthropy that come from out of state in in the the Democrat David Morales socialist McKe's the one that signed it their world anyone with money is almost depicted as evil where at the same token they certainly don't hesitate to take some of their money and donations is what I mean.
>> Oh exactly. And that's that's tripled for a family that's been in the state for over a century and just has a secondary property that they pay on year round. They pay the local property taxes. This is a benefit to the state.
Why we would want to penalize it and punish it, especially when we're talking about high-end beach houses rather than say apartment complexes where multiple families could live if we have a housing shortage. It's just it it makes no sense at all. But it's tax the rich and that's part of the the mantra that they're brainwashed about nowadays I guess.
>> Folks, again, you can read about that and more on ankorising.com. He is Justin Catz. Justin, excellent job as always.
We'll talk to you again.
>> Thank you, John. I'll talk to you soon.
>> All right, folks. There it is. And again, he is uh solid um politics this week and we'll continue uh obviously with uh the elections coming up. Early voting is going to be starting now and and actually one month in one month.
There's no reason for the early voting.
Uh they shouldn't to me they shouldn't have there's no reason to have the amount of early voting that that the state does. I'm not saying you don't want to make it somewhat easier for certain people, but the length of time um I I just don't understand the nature of why voting has to be so early other than it just enables the campaigns to in essence get involved uh with ballots. I want to um let's see right here we go.
Um, let me move that. There we go. Okay. I want to play a little bit from that. Uh, >> his challenger, State Representative David Morales, arriving at our 12 News studios for their first televised debate in the Democratic primary for Providence mayor.
>> The candidates got into a heated exchange over what to do about the soaring cost of rent in the city.
>> Target 12 investigator and debate moderator Tim White is here now with the highlights.
Incumbent mayor Brett Smiley accused allies of challenger David Morales of holding up a $1 million rent relief fund for political gain. Perhaps if you spent a little bit more time in city hall, you would have known that this has already gone through multiple hearings. It passed unanimously in the budget uh and it has been funded. And just for cheap political points, there are people who could be receiving relief now. David Morales says Mayor Brett Smiley's fund, which is designed to provide relief to tenants experiencing hardships, would only benefit landlords. And the real solution is rent control.
>> The conditions are in place by a trusted community partner, CAP, the CAP agencies. You're going to disparage the CAP agencies.
>> What I'm going to disparage is the fact that you did not work directly with the city council to make sure that the rent relief fund was written in a way that is going to guarantee protections for tenants so they don't find themselves in a similar position 6 months down the line. Morales has taken criticism over the last week after a top campaign supporter said he wants to make city hall a laboratory for socialism.
>> Do you want Providence to be a laboratory for municipal socialism?
>> You know how frightening that is?
Socialism where it's failed. I'm telling you, I I think more people need education on why it's failed. Defund the police.
There there's other ways, by the way, to defund the police. If you just stop replacing when police retire, you stop giving them the resources. You also there's ways that you then don't support them. So then less people want to remain as police and less people want to become police. So it becomes a slow erosion.
It's not where you start. It's then over time they just dwindle the ranks.
>> I want Providence to be a city that all of our neighbors can afford and feel safe calling home.
>> Is that a yes or a no? So I am focused on making sure that our neighbors >> notice he will not answer that seems like it would be no it's not going to be an experiment but that's the way it was described and the reason why he wouldn't shut it out is because that's what he's pitching. Yeah we'll experiment with all that stuff. You know a lot of his ilk the socialists they they don't even want people to go to prison for murder >> can afford and feel safe calling. Is that a yes or a no? So, I am focused on making sure that our neighbors can Yes, >> that is code. The word neighbors, they use that all the time. Uh, last summer when ICE arrested that guy who was an MS-13 gang member, he was out there saying, "Our neighbor Ivan has been kidnapped by federal agents."
>> A laboratory for municipal socialism.
No, not a laboratory for municipal.
>> We will not be a laboratory of any sort.
Yet the mayor acknowledged, >> you know, but look what it took for him to answer what should have been a very easy question. That leads me to believe he is fully on board. Definitely going to be I mean this is absurd.
People think there's crime and problems in Providence now.
>> Many residents are frustrated.
>> Providence voters are are clearly struggling. The cost of everything from groceries to gas has gone up. Uh it is hard to make ends meet for far too many of our families. Uh, and that's why we're trying to do everything we can.
>> We covered a lot of ground in this debate. You can watch the entire commercial free exchange tonight at 6:30 on Fox Providence. You know, I um I will actually pull it up because I want to find the line about um I do want to find the line where he then they they talk about uh abolishing ICE, which I again I I don't understand that's code. I think Justin Katz said that actually very well. When they say abolish ICE, what they're really talking about is defund the police. What they're really talking about is let's close the prisons.
I mean, there's different ways that it comes out.
And so someone like that to me, they may be, you know, wise enough that they don't come right out and say it, but that's kind of the direction in which they're really going.
So in other words, they may they're not going to come out. He's not gonna he's already seen, okay, I better not say that I'm going to defund the police. Instead, we'll just talk about we're going to abolish ICE and we're going to talk about, you know, he's not going to come right out and say abolish prisons. It wouldn't take a lot.
you know th this is this is a very important election because I think what you also have to now I'm looking right now for whatever reason I don't um I don't exactly see the the full debate online. I don't know why they wouldn't put the full debate online unless I'm just not finding it. Oh, there it is. Okay, I will pull I will pull it up.
Okay.
Let me actually Okay, let me actually pull up some of this. The the part that I really just want to um find and play is this business about abolishing ICE.
That's the part I think they do. opening statements >> around empathy and supporting all of our neighbors so everyone feels safe calling Providence home as opposed to some of the tactics that the mayor has taken over the years when it comes to criminalizing homeless people. In addition, we're going to make sure that there's stability within our department of >> we also I think they come right out and ask him about the ad about the defund the >> about and uh and my opponent uh was active at several defund >> here we go. They do come right out in the beginning and end.
>> David Morales's plan to defund the police will turn back the clock. Mr. Smiley, you know this is inaccurate as Mr. Morales has backed off that position. Are you misleading vote?
>> What? What? Why is that? You know it's inaccurate. What? That he suddenly changed his mind?
Doesn't that mean he could change his mind at any time on on anything? You know this is inaccurate. How would we know that? Why? Because just in the last month, he took it back.
>> Last week, you released an attack ad targeting your opponent. In it, your campaign said, quote, "David Morales's plan to defund the police will turn back the clock."
>> Yes, >> Mr. Smiley, you know this is inaccurate as Mr. Morales has backed off that position. Are you misleading voters?
>> What is that? What is that supposed to mean? You know that on his way to the studio, he made it very clear he's changed his position. How dare you?
Well, apparently he could change his mind again.
>> No, the there's no more important responsibility for a mayor than to keep his or her community safe. It's the thing I think most about. And uh and my opponent uh was active at several defund the police rallies. He's been a state representative for six years and has had ample opportunities to correct the record. Uh, and it's only now that he's running for mayor that he's decided that he no longer believes that. He's still not apologized for calling our hardworking Providence police officers who put their lives on the line for us criminals, for saying that they don't care about us. So, I stand behind everything in that ad.
>> Mr. Morales, your response.
>> Why didn't, and I like these guys, but what Tim White, but why didn't they say to Morales, "Why do you call them criminals? Why haven't you apologized for that?"
I don't hear it phrased that way. Isn't >> it absolutely shameful that the mayor is resorting to desperate attacks?
Desperate [clears throat] attacks that accuse me of wanting to defund the police despite the fact that our comprehensive public safety plan does not make reference to that. I believe in order to keep our community safe.
>> It's because what you've been behind. I used to see him at those rallies.
Desperate attacks. I'd say he's clarifying the record. My question for you is who would want to go to Providence if there were less police?
>> If we need a comprehensive approach towards public safety, which is why I'm committed to making sure that we have social services and case management readily available to all of our neighbors, especially those that are dealing with chronic homelessness in addition to mental health distress. And we're going to take an approach centered around empathy and supporting all of our neighbors so everyone feels safe calling Providence home as opposed to some of the tactics that the mayor has taken over the years when it comes to criminalizing homeless people. In addition, we're going to make sure there's stability.
>> You know, I I'm glad he mentioned that there was a time not that long ago that if you were laying down on the sidewalk in the city of Providence, they would um that could be for loitering. And it was under Mayor Allorsa that they lifted that. I don't think a lot of people know that. I don't think the media focuses on that enough. There was a period of time under uh Providence Mayor Angel Ferris.
You even go back to Sicilini if if you were laying on a sidewalk or laying on a bench, the police would go after you for loitering. In other words, they didn't allow people to do that.
It really started under a laws. And look at how so someone laying on a sidewalk and the police say, "Listen, you you can't Yeah, he didn't change his mind.
You can't just lay in front of this business." Morales calls that criminalizing homelessness >> within our departments of public safety between both police and fire. We understand that over the next several years, we'll be seeing a spike in retirements.
>> You know, I want to mention I'll tell you who I would support and I'm very serious about this. If this guy wins, I'm going to lead a movement that no matter where you live, every city in town, I if he wins, I think we should defund Providence. I don't think people I know actually people don't realize how much state aid Providence gets. they get a lot of money. But if this guy wins and they're gonna just it's gonna go from bad to worse, then then I I would like to lead a movement that cities and towns start to argue and let's have a vote at the state house. Let's put it let's have a vote and start to cut into their funding. Too bad. Why should we keep them afloat huge amount of illegals and it would it would venture into complete anarchy. And so I am prepared to ensure that we fill those vacancies by having a local recruitment model that prioritizes making sure that applicants who call Providence home and are multilingual are prioritized because they will be the ones best equipped to serve our community. And if we want to talk about defunding public safety >> I I do I'm going to interrupt you, Mr. Morales. I I I do want to point out as as your opponent uh noted in 2021 you did call for defunding the police. So I'm just curious when did you change your mind and why? Good question.
>> So, unfortunately, during the summer of 2021, we had a disturbing incident where several Providence police officers were caught pepper spraying children, including one as young as the age of four.
>> By the way, this is totally false. This was Do you remember Taffy? Taffy like candy on Sales Street when those people were so obnoxious and rioting that what he's about to say is a complete lie and they're going to let him get away with it. That's what he's talking about. Remember Taffy? Taffy like candy. Sail Street pepper spraying children. No, there were people rushing outside. The police were called to a house on Sail Street in Providence in South Providence 87 times over two months. I covered this. Hugh Clemens was the chief. There was a fight outside.
The police were called and there were people running out of the house and they had children in their arms. And then suddenly people were fighting with the police. So people use pepper spray and then it got spun into the police are pepper-spraying children. Total lie.
>> And so I attended a rally centered around police accountability. And I felt that it was important that within the Providence city's fiscal year 2022 budget that we did not see an increase around police spending.
>> Nazi.
>> And that is the time in which I stood with community members.
>> ICE.
Nazi. What is he? Graham Platner.
because they had concerns around the lack of police accountability and the fact that they were going to receive more funding despite this incident taking place.
>> So, when did you change your mind?
>> I have not had any way, shape, or form advocated for defunding the police since 2021.
>> Since 2021. But let me point out since 2021. He's never advocated for police.
>> Mr. Smiley response.
>> Yeah, let's He mentioned this public safety plan that he put out yesterday.
Uh so we should talk about that for a second because what it includes is a long list of partnerships that we already have programs we already do. We already give preference for local hiring. Uh and >> let me just um skim a little bit >> and partnerships that already >> I want to find the abolish ICE part >> and yet and still there's been silence from this administration when it comes to be able to tackle that ongoing issue.
>> All right, we're now going to turn to my colleague Alexander Lesley. Alex.
>> Uh Mr. Smiley and Mr. Morales. Both of you have acknowledged that the city's response during the January snowstorm was in >> I don't care about that. I I maybe some people do. I don't >> if you were locked up at any >> Hold on. An ad comes. Well, actually, let me uh I know he could win.
>> Island juvenile detention center. A global settlement may be coming ified to do this job and we'll be able to work directly with our vendors in addition to other departments to ensure that we're keeping our our families are concerned about sending their children to our province public schools and that is why I'm prepared.
>> Now it's closer to the mainstream of your party right now than your campaign wants to admit.
>> Well, first of all, Mr. >> I um let me this sounds like a good question from Ted Ni. Let me hear that.
for property taxes to increase twice in just three years.
>> Let me ask you just bluntly, do you want Providence to be a laboratory for municipal socialism?
>> I want Providence to be a city that all of our neighbors can afford and feel safe calling home.
>> Is that a yes or a no?
>> So, I am focused on making sure that our neighbors can >> Yes. a laboratory for municipal socialism. No, not a laboratory for municipal.
>> We will not be a laboratory of any sort.
We're going to make sure that we are delivering for our >> Thank you, Mr. Morales. Mr. Smiley, you are not a socialist, but a poll last year, I looked it up, showed 66% of Democrats have a favorable view of socialism. Only 42% felt that way about capitalism. Is Mr. Morales closer to the mainstream of your party right now than your campaign wants to admit?
>> Well, first of all, Mr. Morales is clearly uh the kind of politician who says one thing behind closed doors when he's raising money out of state and he does to [clears throat] the people in the community that he's hoping to serve.
Because when that line was given at his fundraiser by one of his largest backers who when he's out asking for money, he applauds enthusiastically and uh didn't refuse to answer the question, didn't deny it. Instead was applauding enthusiastically because he is part of a national movement uh and not interested in actually solving problems for Providence residents, which is what I'm focused on. We have a wide range of views ideologically in the city of Providence. Uh which is absolutely true. Which is why I try to stay focused on pragmatic real solutions for people in the city which means keeping them safe, helping address the affordability crisis by building new homes, delivering free prek, only city in Rhode Island to do so, and to prepare for the return of our province public schools. That's what I'm focused on. Most of those things are not ideological. They're not part of the spectrum of socialism to capitalist doesn't really matter. Most of the of my constituents, what they want is their trash to get picked up on time, their kid to be able to walk safely to school, uh things to not be quite so difficult, uh and to know that there's a bright future here in Providence.
>> But Mr. 66% in that poll of Democrats favorable view of socialism. We see the momentum that Mr. Morales's campaign has gained, at least in parts of the city.
What does that tell you about where the level of frustration a lot of voters have with Providence today?
>> Oh, I I don't want to hear that. I want to hear the um abolish ICE stuff. Let me just see if we can find >> Yeah, we're the least affordable city in America for >> I keep talking about that again. This is the channel 12 debate. I think they did a good job.
>> You want to expand open air dining on federal >> Yeah, let's have more problems on Federal Hill.
>> The agency entirely.
>> Here we go. All right. Finally, we've arrived. All right. Let me go to this.
This is I believe this is the abolish ICE question.
>> You support dismantling the agency entirely.
>> We need to abolish ICE. Yes.
>> And why?
>> Because they have been terrorizing our communities. They have been >> Let me stop this just for a moment. He has no power to do this. I don't even understand the I I really mean it. I've done a lot of debates, meaning moderator debates, and I I the he he doesn't you'd be the mayor of Providence, Rhode Island. You you don't have the power to do this. So, I don't even understand the question other than it's like a a question to help Morales say to everybody, hey, look, I want to abolish ICE >> re-election to US Senate.
>> Yes, Mr. Moral Morales.
>> I'm not making a public endorsement.
>> He won't endorse Jack Reed, which again, that's I I don't care about that.
>> US Senate race.
>> Okay. And this is the last one for me.
I'll give you both about 30 seconds on this one, so a little bit more time. Uh, both of you have been critical of ICE.
Mr. Morales, do you support dismantling the agency entirely?
>> We need to abolish ICE. Yes.
>> Why?
>> That is that is absurd.
You don't have the power to do that.
I I I really mean it. I don't understand the nature of this question >> because they have been terrorizing our communities. They have been going and kidnapping our neighbors all across.
>> What a disgraceful thing to say.
kidnapping our neighbors. What he's talking about was they they picked up that MS13 gang member who was pumping out fentanyl off of Hartford Avenue.
And that's what he's talking about.
Complete absurdity.
>> Just two weeks ago, we had a working father whose tires were slashed in the West End neighborhood before he was abducted. And this was all done without a warrant. We have ICE a >> Listen, why do you think they got him outside? is because they didn't have a warrant to go inside.
If if these were all mistakes, if these individuals actually had proper paperwork and a legitimate reason to be here, they wouldn't they wouldn't be deported. They wouldn't be taking them into custody.
>> Coming in and breaking our sanctuary city laws. These fascist >> breaking our sanctuary city laws.
That's an oxymoron because a sanctuary city doesn't actually have laws.
>> Ice agents need to be held accountable and as mayor I'm going to do just that.
>> All right, Mr. Smiley, he wants to dismantle ICE. We've we've spent uh the >> you know I I I know that then now it's up to the mayor to try to give an answer to that.
And I'm I'm not trying to be a broken record here, but then why not go through all the different federal agencies? Mr. Morales, what about IRS?
What about ATF? What about Homeland Security?
You know, let's go through the list of government agencies that you want to start to defund. Even though even if the state house, Governor McKe, all of them got together, they don't have the power.
I don't know how else to explain it.
It's like that scene in Scarface when then they're down and um with Sosa and you know the the um the guy that ends up they hang him from the helicopter but he then saying Montana you you don't have the authority to be negotiated here. We'll bring it back to Frank right as Tony saying hey it's not a cakewalk anymore. You know, you got the Coast Guard moving that stuff.
So, well, that's that's not Morales won't do that. Folks, I want to remind you about J. Perry Paving. Call them today. High quality, fair pricing, exceptional service, 20 years experience, specialized commercial paving, residential paving. Call J. Perry Paving today. 4017321730.
4017321730 letter J. J Perry Paving. And remember, if there's someone in your home, they serve Rhode Island in Massachusetts. Why not get your driveway paved? High quality, fair pricing, exceptional service. Maybe there's someone in your home who's a veteran. No one is better to veterans than J. Perry Paving. Call them today. 401732-1730 401-732-1730 because they have a tremendous package for veterans whether they in fact um it's it's you're the veteran or maybe your mom is a veteran or your dad or your grandfather your son Jerry Paving call them 401732730 look for them on Facebook I'll say this about Mayor Smiley and I I I don't frankly understand um some of the comments negative about him that I'll sometimes see on my pages.
I think I don't know what to make of that actually. But as someone that has covered him, um I deal with his staff. They're very responsive.
during the Brown University shooting.
Any request I had, they immediately jumped on it. And for those of you that remember that period of time, he called on me multiple times at every press conference. I'll also say this about Mayor Smiley. As he became the mayor, he hired Chief Oscar Perez. He let Chief Perez pick his command staff. Not everyone would do that.
So, you know, I I'm judging this on um I I for whatever reason, there's some people that go after the mayor, but I think you have to deal in reality. You know, there was someone who was trying to run as a Republican to be the next mayor of province. And this individual, I'm not even gonna mention who it is, but he's basically running for the last year. And then what happened? He couldn't even get the right number of signatures to get on the ballot.
And now this person is telling people, "Write me in and they won't let me attend this mayor all to be." I mean, you you have to be realistic.
And right now between these two, a pragmatic liberal Democrat in Mayor Smiley compared to anarchy and chaos of David Morales. Now, one thing that one aspect I should say that I think the mayor's people should be very very cautious about is the fact that I believe that Morales uh they're really going to try to steal the election with mail ballots. I mean, I completely he's got the Sanchez's with them, but you know, this business of giving him and Matos a platform to spew out, right? I want to abolish I I mean, it's it's but it's insanity because you you don't have the power to do.
>> And this is the last one for me. I'll give you both about 30 seconds on this one, so a little bit more time. Uh both of you have been critical of ICE. Mr. Mr. Morales, do you support dismantling the agency entirely?
>> We need to abolish ICE. Yes.
>> And why?
>> Because they have been terrorizing our communities. They have been going and kidnapping our neighbors all across Providence. Just two weeks ago, we had a working father whose tires were slashed in the West End neighbor. I I can't believe the way he refers to criminals that are in the country illegally who they're trying to get and detain and track down and remove neighbors terrorizing kidnapping it. It is just completely disgraceful. And what I I like that and Justin Katz mentioned and pointed this out is don't be fooled by this. This is how he feels towards police. When he's saying abolish ICE, he really means defund the police >> before he was abducted. And this was all done without a warrant. We have ICE agents coming in and breaking our sanctuary city laws.
>> Just that line alone, breaking our sanctuary city laws.
That what does that even mean?
Sanctuary cities mean you don't follow the law. Sanctuary cities mean lawlessness. Again, that is socialist.
David Morales.
I I I think if you're Mayor Smiley, I I would say normally you don't have to worry about it, but with the mail ballots, anything can happen. All right, listen. Thank you everybody. We'll see you tonight on Road Patrol Live. Enjoy this Monday.
