I forgot the library electrics.

[00:00:00]Good morning. As you know, we're well equipped at Chateau Mont with all the tools that we have. But all this big machinery in the workshop that we got years and years ago is about to come into its own because now what we can do in terms of finishes is amazing. We can take what is scrap wood, we can plane it, we can finish it, and we can make our own very specific moldings from that, which means all the finishes in the Chateau are just elevated by having on hand the tools to create bespoke trims and finishes.

[00:02:11]>> And what we're left with is turning this old rough bit of oak into a lovely bit of trim, which is just going to finish off all our plaster work and encase that amazing woodwork that we did in the library. And people often ask me, "How do you know how to do all this stuff?

[00:02:28]Where do you learn it?" And well, kind of learn it on the job. Nature of the Chateau project has meant that we had all the really big, heavy, rough work at the start. We were able to practice with the machines and hone our skills and accuracy. And by the time it came to doing stuff like this, finishing, we already had the skills to kind of pull it off.

[00:03:33]Little top tip when you're using the nail gun to frame and you're wanting to nail right on the edge, there's a risk when you're trying to nail right on the edge that the nails can shoot off at an angle and come out of the side of the wood, which obviously is less than ideal, but it is avoidable. It's all about gun positioning. When the gun's positioned like this, the nail could shoot off this way or this way, but not this way or this way. So, position the gun like this, you're never going to get it firing out of the side.

[00:04:13]You can see I've nailed just a couple of mil from the edge, and it's still not shot out the side. So, as I'm doing the trim, I'm thinking, "Where are the edges, and how do I need to position that nail gun just to get the best finish?" But, don't worry too much, cuz it's a technique even I occasionally get a little bit wrong.

[00:05:41]And if you're wondering why I bothered to trim these bits in, it's cuz that's going to get infilled with plasterboard.

[00:05:51]Lovely neat job. It's nice to do nice things properly. So, one thing that the comments is going crazy with is about the electrics here. And to be honest, I completely forgot about them.

[00:06:07]As if. All the electrics have been run.

[00:06:11]The reason you can't see them yet, well, one's up there for the chandelier, just poking out there. And then there's some more just hiding behind the plasterboard here for lights above the bookcases on both sides. The rest, like the ones just here, I can still get the other side to connect them up. Have some faith. So, today I'm going to wire up the chandelier with a little wireless switch and do some other bits as well.

[00:08:35]>> So, this one is actually a plug. It gives us a bit of flexibility in terms of what lights we put up here. Most of the library lights that overhang are plug-in lights, so it gives us a nice point to be able to change them for whatever one we want.

[00:08:50]And it'll be controlled by the switch on the wall.

[00:09:17]Imagine we've encased this with a lovely bit of wood here. There's a little shelf on top. All this stuff will be hidden above that. So, you won't be able to see any of the cables or anything. Just the lights.

[00:09:38]So, the idea is you come in and immediately on your right there's two light switches. One does the main light which right now is just a little LED bulb, but it'll be an amazing chandelier. And the second switch will be all the ambient lighting, the bookcases.

[00:10:01]Ah, yes.

[00:10:04]It'll really just illuminate where the books are. And this will be on both sides. So, with the flick of that switch, all the ambient lighting comes up. And we could have hardwired it, but the reason I left it as the wireless switches is because it gives us so much play in the future. For instance, if at the same time as all these lights came on, a few lights somewhere here illuminated a picture or a little lamp on the table, you wanted that to come on with all the ambient lights. We can easily do that with this wireless system. We can add and add and add and add and make it so that loads of cool things happen with just the flick of the switch. And what that also means is with the wireless ones, we can set a wireless switch downstairs so that if at night you realize, "Ah, someone left all the library lights on." Instead of coming all the way up here and flicking this off, we can do it all from downstairs.

[00:11:01]So, it's been what feels like quite a slow day, but finishes always so important in wiring and thinking about it and making sure you've got everything absolutely perfect. It's really going to make all the difference when this place is finished. We've got a super exciting week this week because the balustrade is ready for one of the front balconies, the one that we had to take down. That's going up this week. The masons tomorrow are starting the last bit of the facade on that side, so where all the windows are, that's going to be fully finished and they can move away. And I'm going to carry on ticking away between here and the entranceway to get it all ready in the next few weeks. So, we'll see you tomorrow.
