I start off. I got a thin piece of uh 80 CRV2 lazy Sunday. Yeah, I'm super lazy. I feel like doing nothing, but we're going to get this. Sometimes I got to just push myself to to do something.
Start off. I already cut this so it's uh a lot easier to work.

I didn't thin it out too much, but we'll see.
I can even hold it with this.

This is a thin piece of steel already. I think it's maybe 8 inch.
We're going to see how how much we can kind of stretch it out. Make like a little little chef knife out of it.

I thought this piece of metal would have stretched out more, that thin one, but I guess it's only an eighth of an inch, so we can't stretch it out too much.

We're going to try anyway. I wish it would have been wider. I should have cut the piece a little thicker, but oh well.

Get another little heat. Pretty thick, but that's okay. It don't matter. Just straighten it out probably. And I think that's going to be almost good.
Work on this handle a little bit.
That piece that I cut, I want to get it off here.

We're going to get the heat. We'll do a little handle on there. Maybe thin the blade out a little bit more.
Freaking hot. Oh man, I can't keep up with that.

I'm starting to see the tomatoes are starting to come.

Some of you guys use those little we tiny blades there.
This we're going to finish with the grinder, but to get something Halfway decent.
Because I forg thin, I can't really do much with the the actual curvage. The grinder will fix that in like two seconds.
That is hot.
I thought actually don't want to make it too thin because I want to have a good uh good scandy grind on this one.
For a carving knife, you need a good scandy grind.
I've been doing flat grinds and they're not as good.
Good thick scandy is what works.
That looks not bad.
Decent. I think we'll come in after the grinder. But our bevels, I I could forge them in, but they're going to be like pretty long and shallow. I want steep. I want to instead of a long flat, I want a steep grind. So, actually, not bad.

Oh, I'm going to heat treat this knife while I got this forge going.
This one here is all ready to go. So, let's heat treat it.
We're going to heat treat this one. It's all ready to go. It's already been ground.
Raspberries. We don't even have raspberries yet.
A flat grind is basically just like a a high flat grind all the way up to here.
You can come all the way up to the top.
Whereas a scandy grind is more like more like a wedge like this. But instead of instead of being way up here, the grind would be like here. So it's a real instead of like the flat grind is more like this and the scandi is more like this. And then you could do like a convex where it has like a sort of a round grind and you could have a secondary bevel.
Lots of different grinds you can do.
It's a pretty ugly looking knife right now, but hopefully hopefully it'll look better when it's done. It looks pretty ugly right now.
I'm not going to lie.
At least it'll be thin. It should be a real good tomato topper. A good uh Badly twisted.
That should be nice and flat. I'm going to straighten her out with that.
So, this we're going to heat up a piece of steel. We're going to heat up our oil.
We're going to uh because this knife is forged, we got to normalize it a couple of times because when you start forging in it, like I'm not a scientist, but they say all the molecules go blah blah blah. So, you got to heat treat it, you know, heat it up, let it cool down, heat it up so it all goes back to normal. Like before you you you started forging it. Like when you get a raw piece of steel like this, it's already all innealed. Like it's soft. You can grind it, you can cut it, you can do whatever you want. But once you start forging it, it starts to shake everything all around.
See, like that's a perfect quench color right there. Look, nonmagnetic right there. It catches here a little bit because I'm letting it cool down. But that's like your perfect color right there for this kind of steel. Perfect.
We just put it on our brick here and let it cool down.
We'll do that a couple times. Let it normalize and we'll give it a good hot soak and then we'll quench it. But we're going to heat up our oil. So you don't want to quench it in cold oil. Never quench it in cold oil.
Oh, that's hot.

That's almost like your knife. You wanted one of their old bowls, a traditional, you can put a bend in it right there.

You never want to pound on cold steel because that's when you make uh you crack the steel. Oh, that's looking look good there.

Right now it looks like crap. Looks like an oversized butter knife, but guarantee you that's not the end of it.

I'm not the best. You guys already know that. There's lots of people better than me, but I just do my best. That's all I can do. I do what the skills the Lord gave me and that's it. That's all I can do. Like everybody else, you try your hardest and that's that's all you can do.
Like that. I guarantee that's a perfect color. Okay. Non-magnetic. Perfect. Here you'll see it sticks here. Nothing. So, we let that see that one more normalization and then we're going to quench. Got the oil all heated up because this one's so thin. We're not even going to We don't have to normalize it in the uh ashes or in the Well, actually, we might put it in the We'll put it in the oven there, the forge when we're completely done.
Just to let it normalize nice and slow.
It's the same thing. Letting it normalize in there with the heat. Nice and slow. Doesn't make it it makes it so it doesn't harden too fast and it kneels it back to its kneel state. So you can actually work on it. If you you started working on that when it's like hot, it's hard as a rock. It's almost like when you when you quench it, it's almost like pretty hard. So this there's still lots of color in there. Watch. Turn that light off.
Still see all the color in here compared to the stove. Look. So you let all that color get out. Normalize nice and slow. And then we're going to quench it. Hard quench into the fire.
And then it's just got to be heat treated.
