[00:00:39]As to why would this administration [music] target museums, arts and culture? And the the historian said, "Authoritarians, they do [music] this in order to control the mind of the people." And so, hello everybody. Guys, this is one of the most insane segments I've seen. We got Maga Zach Morris not being saved by the bell along with agent double O Pedro, Scott Jennings on a new mission, spits shine.

[00:01:04]Let's get into this segment and we'll talk about it. Republican lawmakers in a hearing on Capitol Hill today.

[00:01:11]Anthea Harding took issue with the administration's characterization of the museum that cast the American history museum in a negative light. But, Democratic Congressman Kweisi Enfume of Maryland took it a step further. Listen.

[00:01:25]We will not let you destroy that museum.

[00:01:30]No matter how long it takes, how many battles are required, how much effort is needed, we will not allow that to happen unless you find a way to kill all of us and walk over our bodies to change history. That history is too sacred. It is too precious and it will not be erased.

[00:01:53]The tension here is between the Trump administration's insistence on uh in their words trying to correct the overemphasis of slavery in some of these museums uh with their maybe their correct criticism of some of the things that the museum has done in the past.

[00:02:12]Let me play for you an exchange between Brandon Gill and Anthea Harding about something that the museum had as it relates to politeness. Listen.

[00:03:47]It's like he's not racist enough to not marry an Indian person, but racist enough to know this is how you win in Republican elections. And so, F them brown people, right?

And that's the thing about these museums is that it shows the full spectrum of the American history. Parts of it that are really uncomfortable and hard for people to grapple with, but it also does a job of showing the promise of who America can be. And in order for people to get to that promise, you have to be honest in reconciling that history. One part of the hearing that I really loved today was Congresswoman Ayanna Pressley having that conversation with the historian from Yale, and she was asking what and drawing parallels to 1930s Germany as to why would this administration target museums, arts and culture. And the the historian said, "Authoritarians, they do this in order to control the mind of the people." And so, this isn't about this conversation that they're having in Congress. It is about ensuring that there's one conversation or one belief system in the United States and not celebrating the diversity that sure, there's pain in this nation in our founding, but there's also promise. But in order for us to get to that promise, we have to reconcile with the hard, uncomfortable truth that takes a bit of courage to face and move forward.

[00:06:39]>> I I I just wonder even if you think that they went too far in some of these uh you know, 2020 era moves, [clears throat] why again, what does that have to do with the administration wanting to remove mentions of slavery from exhibits in the Smithsonian in Philadelphia at George Washington's house?

[00:07:01]>> Well, I don't think they have much to do with each other. I think 2020, everybody did get a little too woke, and it's okay to contend with that reality. Uh practically speaking, the earlier portion of that, Brandon Gill clip, who I think, you know, earned some plaudits for today, did a good job. Uh Bethany Mandel had a piece in the Washington Examiner uh profiling him the other day where um clearly that's somebody who is a standout among this freshman class in Congress and is going to do a good job of grilling uh progressive institu- >> He's hiding his Indian wife and making fun of people who eating with their hands, like his own father-in-law who's Indian. He's a stand-up guy, right? Of course, MAGA Zach Morris will say this.

[00:07:44]Immediately preceding that clip that you showed though, he was also asking about objectivity. That same toolkit that the Smithsonian was promoting as a document to be upheld around that time period, 2020, 2021, whatever it may have been, suggested that objectivity was a tool of white supremacy. I think we can all agree that that is facially ridiculous and You think objectivity is a tool of white supremacy?

And and I and I don't understand why they are doing that because the two things don't seem to have anything in common.

[00:11:11]There's no questioning that. But people on the left in this country want our country to be defined today by the most negative aspects of our history. People on the right, as led by the president today, would like to focus on what you I think correctly called the promise.

[00:11:33]What we have done to overcome the worst aspects of our history. This example that Brandon Gill pulled is one of the most egregious examples of excess at this museum. I mean, you know, it's like their white supremacy list.

[00:11:45]Individualism and self-reliance, nuclear family structures, rational linear thinking, work before you play. It goes on and on and on. Politeness.

[00:11:53]>> she, would acknowledge that First of all, that wasn't policy of the museum.

[00:11:57]It was done by an individual individuals who worked there. But I but here but to to the point that I made, Scott, I mean, you're saying nobody wants to rewrite history. Literally, earlier this month, the the um the federal government removed a panel about George Washington's uh slave holding and replaced it with one that said that Washington knew and trusted his enslaved house staff enough to buy them tickets for the circus and theater and let them venture out into the city's markets on their own, so on and so forth. So, there's some rewriting happening, for sure.

I was there earlier the year before early in the year before they made the change in the panels. And it is a rewriting of history. The same rewriting that tried to erase Jackie Robinson and erase the Tuskegee Airmen from the Defense Department website. The same rewriting that created the 1776 commission that Trump used to try to whitewash American history about slavery. I know >> it African-American that we cannot allow this erasure to happen. And Quaiser is in full his right to speak up about that.

[00:13:16]It ain't happening. And guys, the issue with Republicans and conservatives and so-called woke, they don't even know what the hell it means, is that it tells you the truth. And therein lies the problem. That's all it is. Woke is just a truth of something that happened and the truth harms their intentions.

[00:13:32]This is important for them because if people understood the history, for instance, of black people in this country and slavery, these attacks on different races is just that much harder to be effective. That's why it's important to stand with black people, even if you're not black. You can be Hispanic, Indian, it doesn't matter, white. I see it almost like a math equation in my head.

[00:13:54]You would attack black people, you would attack me as a Hispanic person. If you attack Indian people, you attack me. If you attack Muslims, you attack me because by not standing with these different groups of of of people, for instance, if you're Hispanic, and say, "Well, it's not your fight."

[00:14:10]It's just a matter of time before they come for you next and it will be that much easier because you will have no effing allies. And don't cry when there's no one there to stand with you, shoulder to shoulder.
