What if we could fix genetic diseases at the source? Introducing... CRISPRAjouté :
Okay. Did you know that we can edit DNA like editing a Google doc? Yeah, scientists actually can using something called crisper. Crisper is basically molecular scissors. It can find a very specific sequence in your DNA and cut it exactly at that spot. Once the DNA is cut, scientists can do many things with that. They can remove a gene, fix a mutation, or even insert a completely new piece of DNA. And here's the crazy part. Crisper wasn't invented from scratch. It actually comes from bacteria. Many bacterias will use crisper as a defense system. When a virus attacks them, they store pieces of that virus's DNA and use it later to recognize and cut the virus if it comes back. So now we've taken a natural system and turned it into a tool that could potentially cure genetic diseases by fixing the problem directly in your DNA. Follow for more 60cond science and tech videos and comment part two if you want to see real world examples of crisper.
