Day 49 R&D UPDATE (EDUCATIONAL DOCUMENTARY)

[00:00:35]Greetings everyone. It's week eight and before we get into it, just want to let you know we are following all YouTube's guidelines and we do not condone the use or cultivation of cannabis where it is not legal for you to do so. So without further ado, let's hop into it.

[00:00:51]All right guys, it's week eight. Before we get started real quick, just want to ask you guys if you could like and subscribe. We have almost hit 500 subscribers. I've had this channel for 15 years. I've made videos intermediately, but I've been trying to stay consistent. So, whether you guys love it or you guys are here to hate watch me, uh just uh if you can just subscribe and shoot me a like, uh it'll help push the video out to the algorithm. YouTube's been very strict on my last couple videos. So, that's why I've been having to preface all of these guidelines prior to making these videos because they've just been getting age restricted. So, uh but yeah, let's get into it. So, it's week eight, guys. You know, it's exciting time. We're coming to the end. You know, it's exciting but sad. You know, all these girls have got to go. I uh I hope that we learned a little bit together on on our journey here. But for those of you guys that are just tuning in, um we are in the R&D room and what we're trying to do here is just sus out whatever whatever uh cultivars are not going to be suitable for our feeding schedule. Uh we're trying uh to crop steer a little bit harder, bring our EC up a little bit higher, and just see what expressions it's going to give our flowers. And in here we got four different strains running on the same line and we're we're just pushing them to the max. So we got our Skywalkers there. Um our Oaksterdam OG's there. We got all of our LA gelato on this half of the table and all of our mimosas. So if you guys remember last week we talked about these mimosas. I told you they they finished pretty fast and they did not like the high EC too much. they they tended to want to start finishing early for me. And some of them like these like this girl here, you know, she just never she never really came out of her her ripening um after about week six, you know, and then you got girls over here who are still kind of popping out a little bit of pistols, you know, everything's starting to get a little bit of color. Well, at least our color strains. um all of our mimosas and our LA gelatoes over there. Um LA gelatoes are still bumping. They're still going to put on quite a bit of more biomass.

[00:03:09]But the stacking is beautiful. I couldn't really ask for any better stacking here. It's uh all the way through all the way through on all the oaks back there, all the skywalkers.

[00:03:22]They're just stacked all the way down to the second trellis. and uh that they're they're looking beautiful. You know, our nug size is is pretty decent on the Ali Gelato. I'm trying to get you guys focused here. And trike production is pretty good. You know, the stacking is really what we are trying to do with our with our drybacks and our crop steering because what I tend to get a lot of the time uh when I'm watering too much too early, weeks one through three when we're in generative growth is I'll get these big inner nodal spacings. You know, I just pull down a room in the Skywalker and you see how everything is just it's just stack stack stack stack stack. So maybe an inch or two per node coming off of there.

[00:04:15]So per node, you know, it's an inch or two. So last this run that I just pulled down at the at the big facility, all my nodes were were looking more like this, you know, 3 4 in apart. Not ideal, especially for how tall these plants tend to want to get. The Skywalkers, they just didn't stop stretching. Like, no matter what I did, I pinched them. I supercropped them. Nothing I did wanted to keep them short. So, it is what it is. We'll deal with it.

[00:04:52]But on the bright side, we got some major stacking. You know, some really good stacking. Let's see if we can get you guys back here a little bit. Um, so just maybe a closeup on some of these girls that are right next to the light here. You know, they're they're quite they're quite stacked. They're just starting to give us a little bit of character as opposed to just being very um very ball. So like see something like this. See, it's very ball shaped. And you got something like this. And we're getting a little bit more characteristics coming. A little more foxtailing, a little more of that PR look, you know. Um, this nug right here.

[00:05:39]I was defoliating and kind of knocked it down, but these things smell great, guys. I mean, it it's uh it reeks in here. So, anyway, uh that's pretty much what the canopy is looking like right now and where we're at. Um, as far as our temperature, I just had at the beginning of the video, if you guys remember, I just I just showed you guys uh what what it is, what part of the schedule we're on. So, we're day 49, 50 to 56 right now. So, our temperatures are going to be 73 uh during the day, 68 at night, and as follows all the all the parameters there, uh our BPD is going to go up a little bit. We're going to really start start drying these things back. So coming out of bulking, we're going back into what I talked about before. We're going to get into our our semi-generative steering to vegetative steering. So basically what that means is that we're we're going to really get them up to a saturation point really early in the day and just give them a really huge dryback almost like we did during generative growth. But what I want is a little bit more runoff than I did during generative growth. generative growth, I tend to not really give much runoff. Uh maybe the third week of flower, I'll give them a little bit more runoff. But right now, we're trying to really bring the EC down, but slowly, guys. We don't we don't want to we don't want to like shock these things and and put them into like a a uh put the wrong kind of osmotic pressure on these things. You know what I mean? Then they're going to start wanting to they're they're going to start wanting to wilt. They're going to get water logged. All all this stuff. So, it's really just the balance right now of kind of just keeping an eye on them and checking your drybacks daily. I know a lot of you guys don't have moisture meters and that's why I try to just keep those out of the parameters that we're using. I really just go by feel for you guys so that way you can kind of translate these things over to you. And again, this is in rockwool, so it'll also work in cocoa. I've I've tried a little bit in Pete Moss, so maybe even in Pete, some Promix or some stuff like that to keep it super simple. Some some of these dryback techniques will work.

[00:07:49]If you go back and watch the other videos, we go over it a little bit more.

[00:07:52]But uh again, all these all these things are what I am using and I'm just sharing what it is that I'm doing and if it works for you guys, that's great. If not, thanks for coming along with on the journey with us. So, day 49, we came in, we really stripped these girls even more so than they were before. So you can see right pretty clearly through the canopy.

[00:08:17]All the lowers are getting light now.

[00:08:20]And we we stripped uh pretty much as as much as I can. You know, maybe I'll come through week nine and kind of just pick out, you know, a little bit more of the bottoms there, but I feel like it's pretty good for now. Uh it's harder to reach the back side of that table. You can see some of those some of those girls back there are already getting their lean on. So hopefully they can maintain where they are till week nine.

[00:08:45]I know they're just putting on more and more weight, more and more resin right now, so they're just going to get super duper heavy. But color should be start should start coming in about 2 3 days.

[00:08:56]We start seeing more color. Like I said, some of these mimosas are starting to get a little bit of color. I don't know if you guys can see it in the camera, but they're just starting to get a little flush a little flush of purple to them. But the trike but the trike production on these girls is absolutely absurd.

[00:09:16]I don't know if you guys can see it, but yeah. So again, I would put these tables on different zones just for the unfortunate fact of what happened to these these strains here. But once again, we're trying to find the strains that are going to work for our feeding program.

[00:09:38]And whatever doesn't is not unless it is a legacy genetic. So like let's say, okay guys, I just got a Girl Scout original forum Girl Scout cookies uh cut. And for that cut, if it comes out good, then I might try to run a whole zone or a whole room and really dial that strain in. You know what I mean?

[00:10:00]just because it is a legacy cut and it is something special. So, but other than that, like these mimosas, Ali Gelato, the Skywalker, the oak, these are just staples in the gu in the garden, you know what I mean? Like staples in my garden. Sorry. Uh staples in the stables. So, I want to just try to dial in exactly the kind of uh strains that are going to react to my feeding program. And what we're doing in here is just trying to run a different irrigation strategy, trying to run different temperatures, different parameters, all that good stuff, and see exactly what happens. And hopefully it translates and we can take it over to the banger to the banger facilities. But so far so good. I'm happy with what I see. Um, lights got turned down today to 80%. So at 100% we're pushing about 850 1,000 micro moles. 80% we're pushing about like 700. So we're kind of just going to start dialing it down a little bit. I don't know if I'll go below 80. I usually don't. But if I'm it is the middle of summer, so if I'm struggling on keeping temperatures down in here or or stuff like that because I'm having to run the dehumidifier more to really keep that VPD up, keep that pressure up, keep that evaporation up in the plants and just that transpiration really going just to get them to really finish and let them know, hey, like it's time to go. Like we need to dry dry back. You guys are going to die. put on as much resin, as much weight, as much character as you can to try to catch that pollen so you guys can get pollinated, you know. So, that's essentially what we're doing. But yeah, I I mean, everything looks fantastic in here. I I I I again, it's like I was a little nervous going in just going to be pushing this EC really high. And right now, we're coming out at Let me see. Let me see. Let me see.

[00:11:59]see if I can check it for you guys real quick. Real quick. Just to see where we're at.

[00:12:08]So, right now you see AC coming out is 4.6.

[00:12:20]So, in the blocks, you got to assume we're probably sitting at about probably about 3, maybe 2.8. eight, you know what I mean? Give or take. So, it's uh remember your runoff isn't necessarily exactly what's going on in the blocks.

[00:12:38]It's just a clue of what's going on in the blocks. So, unless you do get that moisture meter and start checking the checking what's what the EC is in your blocks, you're not really necessarily going to know. But a good indicator is just checking your runoff consistently and knowing that you know what you got going in versus what is coming out.

[00:12:57]Somewhere in the middle there is exactly where your EC EC is going to be at because overnight as they're getting dry backs the salts are going to concentrate and when you reaturate you're getting a mix of what's going in versus what sat overnight you know whatever the plants didn't use. So expect your EC to be coming out high. Don't don't don't go into panic. Don't start flushing your plants. Don't go crazy unless you're seeing some kind of deficiency or some kind of lockout or anything of that nature. You really should not be like worrying too much if you're getting a high EC runoff. Um I know a lot of people, a lot of gardeners panic, a lot of growers panic when they start seeing that high EC, but I promise you these plants will eat, man. These plants will eat. Especially the OG's. The OG's eat like crazy. You can see right now everything, all of these candies are pretty much done. They're setting.

[00:13:48]They're They're not done. They're not ready to pick. They still need to get colored. They still got 2 weeks left of nice resin production and all that good stuff. But you could see that they're set. You know, they've already got their shape pretty much. They got a little bit a little bit of white pistol still coming out and they're they're just basically going to swallow a tiny bit more and finish. But all the OGs are all white pistolled out. Just nothing but white pistols. Like they're probably going to want to go 70 days, you know.

[00:14:19]And I don't think I'm going to let them go 70 days. Just depending on how these look. I'm planning on pulling these about day 63 to 65. But um again, we'll have to see. this these last couple weeks of irrigations are really going to help them like get the signals to finish and get done with. So, I'm hoping that those get the message and start finishing because they are just stacking. They're just they just look like they want to put on so much more biomass. You know, there's nothing but white pistols. Nothing but white pistols on there. But anyway guys, I just want to give you guys an update.

[00:15:48]Uh a lot of exciting things happening over there. So, like I said, we're taking a lot of these strategies and taking them over there and everything is looking fantastic. I haven't been this happy and this enthusiastic about going into work over at the over at the bangers. You know, this is more of my my passion of what exactly I love doing, which is, you know, trial and error.

[00:16:11]Just really really pushing these plants to the to the max. And at the big facility over there, it's really just about trying to maintain quality and without sacrificing our yield too much.

[00:16:24]You know what I mean? Putting out a good product, putting out good medicine consistently, and just making sure that we can pay the bills and keep the lights on. So, cuz other than that, uh, it all goes away. You know what I mean? And that's that's all all I could do. I can't put out mediocre product. I can't I can't push these things to just produce weight for me. put out mediocre local product to my to my clientele to these patients and expect to be successful. Especially out here in LA, it's a it's a cutthroat business. It's cutthroat out here. You know, if you're not if you're not good, you're failing.

[00:17:00]So, little by little, the mediocre product, the mediocre growers out there are just falling off. So, you got to stay ahead of the game. You got to be able to take risks by getting rooms just set up to to experiment and push these genetics to their limit and hope that on the other side you get something that maybe you find some magic. You know what I mean? But anyway, I'm rambling on at this point. Appreciate all you guys who stuck to the end of the video. Um, I'll talk to you guys this weekend.

[00:17:51]Basically, we we did a flush uh at the end of week seven with just pure RO and we just started adding cake. Um, our cake EC is coming out at about 0.8 EC. And that's pretty much how we're going to flush the median for the next 2 weeks. And at the end, the last 2 or 3 days, we'll go ahead and flush them hard and just get rid of everything. You know what I mean? Just kind of uh get them ready to get taken down. But anyway, I'll make a little short about that hopefully. Uh but yeah, happy farming.
