Meet Penguin, who is up for adoption at the Humane Society of Oakville

[00:00:00]It's time for another edition of Adoptable Pets. Jessica Petro from the Humane Society of Oakville, Milton, and Halton is here with another pet. Tell us who you brought with you today.

[00:00:09]>> This is Penguin.

[00:00:11]Uh, he's a whole 11 weeks old.

[00:00:13]>> Wow.

[00:00:14]>> He was found as a stray outside all by himself.

[00:00:17]Um, and he's been working really hard on fighting off some ear mites, gaining some weight, and now he's all healthy and ready for his perfect family.

[00:00:24]>> Oh my god. How old was he when you guys found him roughly?

[00:00:26]>> was tiny. Like he wasn't a bottle feeder, but pretty much as close as he can get.

[00:00:31]>> He is so cute. He's been chatting with everybody he can in the newsroom. He's making his appearance known. He has a lot to say.

[00:00:38]>> Yes, he does. He is so cute. So, 11 weeks old and >> He wants to go say hello.

[00:00:46]>> Do you want to come hang?

[00:00:47]He's not sure. He's seeing like the studio lights. He's like, "Whoa, what do I do?" So, you have some Churru with you, huh?

[00:00:54]>> Treats are definitely the way to his heart. Okay.

[00:00:57]>> What kind of family would be good for him?

[00:00:59]>> He's pretty easy going. He actually did spend some time in a foster home and they had another cat and they had a dog and he was happy to be a part of all of it. He is still learning that your fingers aren't toys. So, maybe not the best for really young kids, but it's also again, he's not even 3 months old.

[00:01:17]So, he's got a lot to grow out of and learn.

[00:01:19]So, somebody who's going to be patient with him.

[00:01:21]>> Okay. And just trying to, you know, get him cuz he's Oh my god, he's got obviously going to grow some more. He's not full size in any >> He's not even close. He's definitely going to grow a lot more.

[00:01:30]>> But I don't think he's going to be a huge guy.

[00:01:31]>> No. He is so cute. What kind of challenges come when you have a cat who's by himself? Like he's not with any of his littermates or anything like that. What does the Humane Society have to do?

[00:01:40]>> So, he did actually spend some time with another single kitten that we had to help him learn some things like bite inhibition and how to play nicely and things like that.

[00:01:50]But you know, they are kind of they're learning a lot in those first stages of life. So, it is something that we really try and focus on. So, he gets that socialization with with other cats and knowing how to be gentle and things like that.

[00:02:03]>> He is the cutest. Now, he's kind of calmed down cuz you have the treats with you. You guys also have some other events coming up.

[00:02:09]>> We do.

[00:02:10]Tomorrow and Wednesday, so the 21st and 22nd we'll be at the PetSmart in Oakville with some adoptable rabbits.

[00:02:16]Hopefully trying to educate about their care and get some more rabbits adopted here.

[00:02:21]So, yeah, you can come visit us there, chat to us about rabbits if >> if that's an animal you've been looking to bring into your home, too. I know you guys have a lot of and you've had rabbits especially on our show, too. So, we know [laughter] that you're the place to go. And you also have some great news when it comes to donations.

[00:02:33]>> We do. A member of the community, a long-time supporter whose name is Nicole Porlier, she's actually matching donations up to $10,000 this month. So, if you've been, you know, looking to donate, it'll go twice as far this month.

[00:02:46]>> That's amazing. We obviously love the work that you do in trying to, you know, get kitty cats just like Penguin a home.
