This video explores the phenomenon of modern community isolation through a neighborhood walk in Hephzibah, Georgia, where the creator discovers that residents have lived in the same neighborhood for years without knowing their neighbors, contrasting this with traditional community interactions like neighborhood barbecues. The creator encourages the woman he meets to start a YouTube channel to preserve her stories for future generations, arguing that digital platforms can serve as lasting legacies that transcend physical limitations and time.

Uh, it's a beautiful day in Hapeville, Georgia.
Beautiful day.
What I'm doing, man, I'm well, first thing I'm doing is I'm going for my walk.
The second thing I'm doing, I'm videoing right now at a 8K at 30 frames per second. You can't go any higher than 30 frames.
So, I was going to do 60. Just to experiment, you know, just to experiment, but uh the action cam saying, "Nope, I ain't going there."
So, what I'm going to do is I walk down to the second stop sign, I'll make a right.
I'll go around.
I'll go through the woods. Hopefully, I don't get attacked by ticks.
And uh I'm just curious to see the quality, you know? And also, I want to find out how long my uh Final Cut Pro takes to process it.
And then how long it'll take to upload it. I mean, my my internet speed's like 800 megabytes per second, between 8 and 950 megabytes per second.
But, I just want to see how long it takes to upload. And then it's got to pro- uh YouTube's got to process it.
And what I do is I put uh like style What do they call that?
There's a word for it. And I'll put in there, you know, how long it took for the uh GoPro Not the GoPro.
How long it took for the final cut to process it and then how long it took to upload it to YouTube and how long it took YouTube to process it to 8K.
It'll take it to 4K. Well, it does I think it goes 720, 10 1080, 4K, and then usually I'm done.
But it has to go to 8.
The uh Action Cam does not have 6K.
I would have done that.
But I'm just curious, man.
Do a little experiment. See how See how this works out.
Miles tells me every time when I'm videoing the neighborhood, she said it minds her of the show The Walking Dead.
I was like, "What are you talking about, Miles?"
And she goes, "Do you ever notice on The Walking Dead they'll have a uh you know, a scene with the neighborhood?" I said, "Yeah." And she goes, "What do you see?"
I said, "Well, I see uh houses.
I see cars."
She goes, "Do you usually see people?"
And I said, "No." And she goes, "Think about it."
Miles pays attention to stuff like that.
You or I wouldn't Maybe you might have.
But you or I would be like, "Okay.
It's normal here in the states now.
People don't interact with their neighbors anymore."
But uh yeah, that's what she said. Minds her of this a scene from The Walking Dead.
Yeah, so we'll walk down this road here.
And then I'll go through the woods.
Hopefully, then I got to do a tick check when I get back to the house. Check my shoes, socks, shorts.
And the legs.
Someone told me oh, ticks can't live in grass. I was like, okay.
Yeah, they can.
Ticks can live in any type of environment Well, they can't live in the cold, of course. But, they can live in grass.
So, we'll go ahead and I'll walk a little bit and I'll talk to you.
She didn't want to be videoed. I just got done talking to an a woman roughly my age.
And uh I asked her, I says, "Does anybody ever come out?" And she looks at me and says, "Nope."
She goes, "I've been living here for 6 years." She goes, "I don't even know who my neighbors are." I was like, "Really?"
I said, "Remember back in the day when we were growing up?" She goes, "When did you grow up?"
I said, "Well, I was born in '64. So, basically the '70s, okay? I was only about the '70s, I was 6 years old."
And I said, "Grew up during the '70s, you know?" She goes, "Yeah, they were good times, weren't they?" I said, "Yes, ma'am."
And she goes, "But, not people don't have" I said, "We used to have barbecues and neighborhood barbecues and stuff like that." And she goes, "I don't even think the people come out and barbecue."
I was like, "Really?" She goes, "Yeah.
They're pretty much homebodies here."
She goes, "Like I said, I don't even know who my neighbors are."
I said, "That's bad." She goes, "Yeah, I know."
"It's sad." I said, "It's sad." She was a sweet woman.
And I said, "Well, let me get to my walk." She goes, "I've seen you walking around. How long you here? You move here?" I said, "No, ma'am. I I said I I'm I live in the Philippines."
She goes, "Oh, beautiful Philippines." I said, "Yes, ma'am. The most beautiful one of the most beautifulest countries you'll go to. Wonderful people." She goes, "So, it is true what I hear about the people of the Philippines?" I was like, "Yeah, they're awesome."
She goes, "Yeah, it's so pleasant." I said, "Yeah, and you don't see this." I said, "Everybody's out communicating with each other." She goes, She goes, "I got to visit Philippines one of these days." I said, "You'll love it."
I said, "Well, let me get to my walking."
I'll talk to you all later.
We're getting ready to head into the woods.
Yeah, it's quiet, man. Yeah, I when I was talking to that woman, you know, she asked me what I was doing with the camera. And I told her, I said, "Yeah, I do YouTube." I said, "It's just it's just something for me to do."
She goes, "Is it hard?" I said, "No, it's not hard." I said, "Why don't you start a YouTube channel?" She goes, "Nobody here wants to hear what I have to say." I said, "Actually, yeah, they do."
I said, "You have a story to tell."
I said, "And think of it this way, when you're no longer walking this earth, and your grandkids and your great-grandkids and on and on, I said, "YouTube's going to be around for a long, long time."
I said, "It might be bought and sold here and there." I said, "But it's going to be around for a long, long time."
I said, "And you know, your your kids now, when they get up in the age, you know, and they're going to watch them. Hey, that's mom, you know." I said, "Just leave yourself a legacy.
Tell stories that when you were growing up, they don't want to hear that." I said, "Actually, yeah, they do." A lot of them enjoy listening to people's people our age telling stories, you know, what what they did when they were growing up, how much the world has changed since they were kids.
Man, I got something in my damn eye.
I said, "People enjoy that type of stuff." Believe it or not, people actually enjoy it.
And she goes, "So, uh you're going to go back to the Philippines?" I said, "Once I get everything done, I'm gone." She laughs, "Cuz I don't blame you."
She goes, "The US ain't what it used to be." I said, everything changes.
You know, everything changes. Nothing ever stays the same.
Oh.
Here we go. The entrance into the great great forest.
When I get home though, I'm going to have to like I said, I'm going to have to give myself a tick check. Check the shoes, check my check my socks, check my legs, check my shorts.
Them little them little man, they work fast. Hook your leg. And you don't feel You don't feel them at all and that's what's really really weird.
All right, here we go, man.
No, I'm I probably keep the camera rolling so because there's a lot of, you know, the greens and stuff like that.
And you'll see the if it's if it's the quality is any good at 8K at 30 frames. See what it's all about.
But I might not. If the camera starts getting hot, I'm going to have to turn it off. I'm going to let it cool down.
Almost got grass growing.
People still dumping crap in here, which is sad.
Really really sad.
Humans really know how to screw things up, don't we?
And we do it very well.
You hear all them crickets and everything?
They're letting us know that they're still in control.
Somebody's got to be. Look at this.
There's a bee.
Oh.
Something like a bee. I don't have no idea.
I might have looked like a bee or actually didn't look like a bee. It looked kind of like a a wasp, a baby wasp.
Oh.
See what I'm saying, man? People don't know how to People have no respect.
And it's sad.
Man, my one eye my left eye right eye is burning. I don't know why.
I'm I'm not even going to try to go up there, man. Not right now, anyway. Maybe when fall hits or maybe Winters are not that bad here.
So, maybe I'm just worried about the ticks, man.
I don't want Lyme disease. I don't know if they have it in Georgia. I have no idea.
But, I ain't going to I ain't willing to challenge that.
Damn, what the hell is that?
Bugs are flying by my ear.
Yeah, it's pretty, ain't it?
Man, my eye.
You know, one some one time somebody told me he wasn't a religious man, he was a very spiritual man.
He He believes that you don't need He kind of believes the same way I did. I'm not trying to get all religious on you.
He He kind of believed that you don't need to go to a church or a building to pray.
God's over all around you at all times.
He says, man, sometimes he He he doesn't call it prayer, he calls it meditate."
It works for him.
But he just said, he told me one time we were walking through the woods, not like this, it was a little bit more thicker, but there was there was stuff, furniture, tires, stuff like that, that was sitting there, right? And he says, "You want to know something?" I said, "What's that, man?"
And he says, "God He goes, I'm not trying to He always said that. I'm not trying to get religious on you." I said, "Okay." He said, "We just got to say." He goes, "God gave us a gift and we're destroying it." I was like, "Yeah, I know."
He says, "But this has been going on for a long time. It was a slow progression."
It's like, "Yeah."
I said, "But as long as you respect" that he had a couple acres and he even took really good care of it, man.
And uh he wasn't a farmer, he wasn't, you know, he had some horses, he had some cows, chicken, you know, the normal stuff.
But uh he wasn't he wasn't in he wasn't doing it for profit, he was doing it for self-maintaining.
He was kind of a You know, I always figured him to be like an off-grid, you know, guy. You know, he never preached it, but he lived that way of life.
The only time he had power in his house was at night.
I don't think he ever had I don't remember seeing an air con in his house.
And he had a very small house. It was a one-bedroom.
Uh basically like a studio style, had a kitchen and a living room. The room was good size, but there was nothing divided. And he had a bathroom, and that's all he had.
The guy had his stuff together, man, I'll tell you that, though. He had his stuff together.
>> [snorts] >> During the day he would run a generator to power Yeah, I know, he still used modern means. He wanted to generate the power of his batteries to power to charge his batteries.
And then at night he would use the batteries like for lighting or you know, whatever else. Didn't have a TV. Didn't watch much TV.
The only time he watched TV is when he went into town and he would get his his special weekly meal which he loved, meatloaf, mashed potatoes, broccoli, and a uh apple pie.
He'd go there once a week and he'd get that.
And he watched, of course, the TVs everywhere else on, you know, mom and pop restaurants anyway got TVs in them.
And he watched TV. He didn't watch the news. He did not watch the news. As soon as he came in and it, you know, they they they changed the channel.
And he didn't demand it. That's the way they did, you know. They put on a his He watched this show. I can't remember which one it was.
I got I can't remember what he watched.
This one show.
And uh he watched that. He ate his meal.
He'd give, you know, his real He was real uh kind to the waitress, to the staff.
He'd give her a decent tip. Now, he She wouldn't have got rich off him, but you used to know She gave her a decent tip.
Then he'd go home.
What was that?
Is there any bears out here? I doubt it.
I don't think there's bears. Well, there might be, but not around here. Too populated.
So, in your opinions and your comments, why am I saying opinions for? In your comments, can you tell me what your what your uh opinion is on this 8K at 30 frames per second.
I'm just curious. Now, I do realize, okay, let's be you you you're at you I think there's maybe two two in the United States that's got 8K TVs, if they have them.
Most people have 720 1080, and some have 4K. But, 4K's prices are coming down. I noticed that. And I think once they put out 6 or 8K, those 4K's will drop even lower.
That's my opinion. It doesn't mean anything, but it's just my opinion.
Just get Just get Let me know. You know, if you think it sucks, it's okay.
Okay, but I will let you know how long it took for me to process this on my uh Final Cut, and how long it took to upload it.
And how long how long the processing was from the time YouTube gets the video until they process it all the way to 8K. They say 8K YouTube does take 8K. They do take it.
I'm just curious.
All right, man. I'll go ahead and let you go. I'm at the end of the trail wood trail.
Thank you for letting me walk through you.
And you all be You all have a great day, and thank you for watching.
Bye.
