Our Jet Boat Disaster, Shrek and Going to Ukraine -Sent and Bent

[00:00:00]And so Davey looks at me like, "Shouldn't we do something?" And then Ethan goes like, "I'm sinking." And he looks at me and I'm like so calm and normal just like holding the camera. No matter what anybody else here does, I'm not going to help. I'm going to be sitting here filming.

[00:00:18]>> Welcome to the Set and Bent podcast. We just got back from the Fourth of July weekend and we got ourselves into a little bit of a Titanic situation that we're going to talk about today. And I have some literal Shrek stuff to tell you guys about.

[00:00:34]>> Wow. Some really big people in some really high places be caring about Shrek >> even more than me potentially. Wow. That is deeply shocking. Also, I I uh I thought about some irony in um your usage of words to describe the the boat situation >> as Titanic, which uh obviously you were using it in the sense of like a famous boat that sank.

[00:00:56]>> Yeah. But it's very ironic because Titanic >> also means extremely large which is the exact opposite of what the situation was >> cuz I was in a tiny boat which is the opposite of Titanic.

[00:01:08]>> That's how the Titanic got its name.

[00:01:10]>> Well, that's just what that word means.

[00:01:12]Oh, >> it's like Titan.

[00:01:14]>> Large.

[00:01:14]>> Yeah.

[00:01:15]>> Yeah. Titan. Titanic.

[00:01:16]>> You guys have been teasing me all morning about this story. So, what what happened? Well, you know, the beginning of the story is our jetboat has issues a lot of the times that we use it and Vicil came up here with his jetboat and then you guys fixed both jetboats, right?

[00:01:36]>> Yeah. So, uh, really funny fact there.

[00:01:38]Vasili brought his jetboat all the way from Tennessee with a stripped out drive shaft and he ordered one off eBay to be shipped here and they just never shipped it. And he was a completely homemade.

[00:01:51]>> No.

[00:01:51]>> Well, the the drive shaft isn't, but the whole boat. It's a two-seater. Yep. Uh, still a mini jet boat. Um, >> yeah, I think it's like probably a 9 or 10 foot mini jetboat. So, it's like traditional minisiz jetboat.

[00:02:05]>> Yeah.

[00:02:06]>> Is that where you sank, Edwin?

[00:02:08]>> Well, we'll get to things.

[00:02:10]>> Okay.

[00:02:10]>> We'll get to the sinking. We got to tell the story.

[00:02:13]>> It was just in the description. You said a Titanic situation. So, I immediately knew something was sinking.

[00:02:19]>> Yes.

[00:02:20]>> But we don't know what and we don't know how >> or who or when or why. Um >> but yeah, it's Yeah, he he he actually bought that thing partially. Somebody else had started building it.

[00:02:32]>> Um the hole from from some plans that they got somewhere on the internet. And so he bought it already as a partially finished hole, weld it all up. He actually started by putting a Hayabusa engine in it. And he got partway through that and then decided to switch gears. I never got the full story as to why, but he switched gears to a Polaris 1200 triple. That's like the largest two-stroke jet engine ever put in a jet ski.

[00:02:55]>> Let's go.

[00:02:57]>> And it is loud. It does not have a muffler.

[00:02:59]>> It's a triple and it's a two-stroke.

[00:03:01]>> And it's a jetboat with two seats. It's pretty nice. Anyway, so his drive shaft was stripped. And it just so happens that we had a Polaris triple jet ski from like 8 or 10 years earlier and half the size of engine, but still a triple and still a Polaris in our junk pile that came with the jetboat we or the jet ski we turned into our mini jetboat. It was a package deal. We got both jet skis for 500 bucks. I've been meaning to throw that jet ski away for years because there's nothing good on it except apparently the drive shaft. Yeah.

[00:03:34]Never throw anything away. Yeah. Uh, it's the moral of the story because, uh, that drive shaft being in that jet boat in the junkyard saved the day for Vicil and he was able to take that jet the the the drive shaft out, put it in his jetboat and get it running. And then, ironically, our jetboat had similar drive shaft issues. Uh, ours wasn't stripped out, but the bearings were cooked. So, that happened because I bounced it off of a few too many large rocks at high rates of speed, and it pushed the engine up. Yeah. relative to the jet drive and it just cooked the bearings. I mean, they were also used bearings when I built it, so like, you know, they were going to go out eventually, but >> hit some of those rocks really hard and we hadn't really seen the evidence of it until we were getting underneath it.

[00:04:17]Like, holy smokes, like some of these I'll be right back with a uh visual aid for that. You guys can carry on.

[00:04:23]>> Oh, okay. Yeah, it was a a really rough river and um you really have to carry your speed to go upstream with these jetboats and you have to be going fast to steer.

[00:04:37]>> Like you can't just let off the throttle and steer or you'll just get pushed downstream wherever the river wants to take you. So, uh for people listening, Ethan is holding up the great and it looks like it got zonked.

[00:04:51]It doesn't exactly look great.

[00:04:55]>> Yeah, >> that's a better way of saying it.

[00:04:58]>> Yeah. So, that's a visual aid for how how hard I hit a bunch of rocks. This thing is made out of 8 in and 3/16 steel and it is bent into pretzels. Anyway, um so yeah, the bottom of the jetboat was very hammered. And also, as you were saying, Edwin, you have to carry your speed, not only to be able to steer, >> but also to stay up on plane. The slower you're going, the deeper you're in the water. And to top it all off, the jetboat wasn't running quite right that day. So, I just had to like rely on momentum.

[00:05:27]>> I couldn't just, >> you know, wrap it to get over.

[00:05:30]>> When you're on plane and everything's going correct, the bow is like 3 in 2 in above the water.

[00:05:38]>> Yeah. Yeah, pretty much. Um, so yeah.

[00:05:41]Anyway, Vasil helped us fix our jetboat and then we decided to take them both out for a little test. Um, and uh, I think as I explained to Stephen in a text, it went about how you'd expect two YouTube built jetboats in the water to go.

[00:05:57]>> Yeah, that actually explained it quite well. I was like, "Oh, okay." Yeah, cuz I missed that day. It was Yeah. Well, the saving graces, our Fred Davyy came out with his regular boat. And so I was sitting on the regular boat with the camera and Ethan launches out of the dock and it actually sounds good. And I was like, "Dang, I think they actually fixed." And before I said it, it goes, "Yo, yep." Well, we did. We did actually fix all of the problems that it previously had. It just now has a new problem. This is how boats work. They just you fix everything that's wrong and they're like, "Sweet. Now I can break again in new and exciting ways."

[00:06:41]>> So it started bogging down and you just nose dived into the water.

[00:06:44]>> No, no, no. It wasn't that immediate.

[00:06:46]>> You know what they say about boats, Chris?

[00:06:48]>> Yeah. What is it?

[00:06:50]>> It'll cost you.

[00:06:52]>> The best day The two best days of boat ownership are the day that you buy it and the day that you sell it.

[00:07:00]My friend Casey says that boats are just a giant hole in the water water that that you throw your money into.

[00:07:05]>> Yeah, it's true.

[00:07:06]>> Uhhuh.

[00:07:07]>> This was the short and sweet >> Yep.

[00:07:09]>> version of those.

[00:07:10]>> The best boats are the boats that your friends have that you can ride on.

[00:07:14]>> You know, this was true that day because uh Davey brought his boat and it ran flawlessly all day and he rescued everyone, >> including Edwin.

[00:07:22]>> Well, we're'll get to that. We'll get to that.

[00:07:26]>> You know, we'll see.

[00:07:26]>> Okay, back to the sinking. I got to hear about the sinking. Come on, Titanic. So, uh, there's a new problem with the jetboat. I think Ethan should elaborate on.

[00:07:36]>> Yeah. So, basically, its new problem is that, um, I thought I had I I thought I maybe solved it while we were out there, but I didn't. Basically, it's got a fuel delivery issue. And it's not that the fuel isn't getting to the carburetors, it's that it's not getting into them, I think. But the bottom line is if you sit there, at least when we started out the day, if you sit there and idle it for, you know, 10, 20 seconds and then you hit the throttle, you get FULL JUICE.

[00:08:03]YOU JUST, you know, full throttle and then im like if you just hold it wide, it'll run for like 5 seconds and then just die because it'll burn up all the fuel in there and no more fuel is getting in. So, I think it's either a combination of the um diaphragm pump that pumps the fuel into the carbs that I think is partly bad and or each carburetor has its own diaphragm that controls unlike a regular gravity float bowl and like a dirt bike carburetor.

[00:08:31]It's a diaphragm float bowl. So, it controls the flow in and out of the carburetor for the fuel. Some combination of those three diaphragms is not working. So, basically it runs out of fuel.

[00:08:42]>> Yes. Yeah. constantly.

[00:08:43]>> Yeah.

[00:08:44]>> Yeah.

[00:08:44]>> Um, so I was still, you know, that I was trying to figure that out, but I also knew I had had this experience that it would run just great after idling for a little bit or like after really low throttle. You could give it a punch and it would cuz it'd have a little bit of fuel in there. That's the assumption I was working off of. I'll let Edwin tell the next part cuz he got to witness it secondhand. Well, what was really fun was is, and this is before I realized certain things, but for a little omnisient storytelling for the listener, Vasili's boat does not have UHW or any plastic on the bottom. It's just thin aluminum. It doesn't have seat belts. It does have a roll cage. And Vicil was not wearing a helmet or a life jacket.

[00:09:32]>> Oh, this is a really good combination.

[00:09:34]Yeah, boy. And so, and so I was like kind of going around the boat cuz I had my life jacket on the regular boat cuz I've been on Grindhard Adventures and I know how things go. So, I got my I'm sitting on my life jacket, but I'm like, this man needs my life jacket more than I do. I'm in a normal boat at the end of the day, you know, and I don't know his swimming level or anything like that.

[00:10:00]So, >> I mean, if he's anything like me, he can't swim at all. So, you know. Yeah, which you know I've you know it things happen but he's queuing up to just like launch over this big log and we're just we just got out there. We don't even know if things are running right or not.

[00:10:17]And I was like like kind of turning around to uh to hold up my life jacket to be like you should wear this. You know, hate to throw him under the bus since he's not here but it's all good.

[00:10:28]You should wear a life jacket if you're on a swindly jetboat. So, yep.

[00:10:33]>> So, he launches over this log and it actually goes pretty well. And I was like, nice. And that's before I didn't know there was like plastic under no plastic or anything. And uh so Ethan comes up behind it and behind the other boat and he's like getting ready to do the same jump. And it's like, >> you know how last time there was like a little driftwood thing that we kind of like hopped over?

[00:10:59]>> This is like a tree, not a log. It's a tree.

[00:11:02]>> Yeah, it was it was a whole cottonwood tree probably two three feet in diameter that had fallen into the river >> but only only about four inches of it sticking up above the water and all the bark's gone. It's really slippery. It is in all by all means the perfect jetboat jump.

[00:11:17]>> Yeah. And there's multiple people on the boat including Dave that's like never seen Grindhard action live. So, like people were psyched like this triple just launched off the log and then Ethan's coming up in the little tiny teeny weeny and then he's just like run AND EVERYONE'S LIKE YEAH like someone literally was like hollering like yeah and then it goes like it blocks out.

[00:11:40]>> I was counting on what I was counting on was my previous experience of if you just kind of putts an idol then you're going to have one hit.

[00:11:50]>> Yeah, >> it didn't. It didn't give him the hit.

[00:11:52]>> I went for one hit and it just went up the log and then back down.

[00:11:57]>> Oh, >> to make matters worse, I had the engine cover off cuz I had been I've been messing with everything.

[00:12:02]>> So, did it just fill with water like immediately? Just I just filled to the brim with water like >> Oh.

[00:12:10]>> So, I was scrambling around trying to shift my weight trying to get it to not completely sink. And I mean, I had like an inch of boat above water before it was just completely swamped. So I quickly I quickly jumped out onto the log or well, I delicately jumped out cuz I knew if I did any quick movements, it' just sink it immediately. So I just sat there on the log for a couple minutes while my billagege pump worked out some.

[00:12:36]But in the moment, you know, all these things all happen so fast. And Davey had never been around us while we're filming or anything like that. And like uh I'm I'm filming and like I use choice words cuz I know that whatever I say ends up in the footage, you know?

[00:12:57]>> So like I'm not describing things to people on the boat, what's going on or how serious it is or whatever. I just say like, you know what, it's just I don't even think about it. It's just second nature. We've been doing it for so long. Like, you say what is good for the video kind of a thing.

[00:13:16]>> And so I'm not saying anything. And so Davey looks at me like, >> "Shouldn't we do something?" And then Ethan goes like, "I'm sinking."

[00:13:26]Something like that. And all Davey hears who's driving the normal boat is that Ethan sinking. And he looks at me and I'm like so calm and normal just like holding the camera. You're like I'm getting the shot. I'm getting the shot.

[00:13:39]I was like there's nothing like grinder.

[00:13:41]>> Yeah. No matter what anybody else here does, I'm not going to help. I'm going to be sitting here filming unless someone's in danger.

[00:13:48]>> I was I would like to point out was wearing a life jacket cuz I know that I can't swim.

[00:13:54]>> See, it's actually nice knowing that Ethan's not a good swimmer cuz there is something he's bad at. And the current was actually pretty strong this day, too, which wasn't helpful for water going into the boat situation.

[00:14:04]>> But Davey hears that, he looks at me and he's like, "Edwin, he said he's sinking."

[00:14:12]>> And he was like, "Can't you hear him?

[00:14:14]He's shaking."

[00:14:14]>> And then he was getting his boat really close to like this giant tree that was down. And so I I I I turned off the camera. I was like, "Oh, oh, oh, no. We got to stay away because like there's like other sinking logs there." I was like, "We got to keep the normal boat good. Ethan will figure that out." And so then I turned back on the camera and I'm like, "Ethan, did you bring the big buildge pump?" And he was like, "No."

[00:14:36]And then everyone on the boat just starts laughing because they just heard me tell Davey not to try and help Ethan.

[00:14:43]I asked Ethan if he has the device he needs to help himself and he says no.

[00:14:49]And >> so everyone on the boat was just dying.

[00:14:52]>> Yeah.

[00:14:52]>> Oh, so funny. Meanwhile, I was just standing on a log hoping the BGE pump would get enough out so I could ride the thing again.

[00:15:00]>> Yeah.

[00:15:01]>> And but then the problem is the BGE pump drained the battery down. But cuz I had a small lithium battery in there that's just enough to start it, >> which if the engine's running, the BGE pump can run for, you know, indefinitely and that's fine. But without the engine running, it drained the battery down.

[00:15:16]And then I was trying to start the boat again and it didn't want to start. And then then we had to get the jump pack out to finish the building.

[00:15:23]It was it was a whole thing.

[00:15:25]>> It was another grind hard situation.

[00:15:27]Yeah.

[00:15:27]>> How long were you stranded on the log?

[00:15:29]>> Oh, like 5 minutes. It wasn't that long.

[00:15:32]>> And then we we ended up getting them around and like I was holding the boat the boat from the big boat and then Ethan was fiddling and we were letting it drain and putting it on the jumper pack and Yeah.

[00:15:44]>> trying to start it. And it was like the saddest start I've ever heard at first because everything was full of water.

[00:15:50]>> Oh yeah. The engine compartment was still half full of water. And then of course as soon as it starts the drive shaft starts spinning and it's got this big like rubber coupler thing in between the engine and the jet drive, which is a good idea. It's, you know, it works well, but it catches the water and just slings it way up into the air. There's water slinging everywhere. And VO is still rallying around us at this point without I never ended up getting him the jacket because, you know, we're doing other things and stuff. And then I see him eye up this corner of the river bend that is like swamp grass. What do you even call that stuff?

[00:16:24]>> I don't know.

[00:16:25]>> It's like more grass than it is water.

[00:16:27]And I see him eyeing it up. Eying it up.

[00:16:29]And I I kind of waved to him. And I think that he thought that that meant >> go for it.

[00:16:35]>> I'm filming. Go for it. And I meant like you should probably throw your jacket on before that. But he goes really fast and he goes through the corner of the bend that's mostly just grass. and he just stays on it and then he goes like it starts sounding weird and then he gets back into the water and it's he made it and I was like oh sweet cool and then he he swung back over to the boat and I I threw him the jacket and I was like you should probably put this on and he was like oh >> that's like basically it took him that long to realize that he >> Yeah. I was like, if anything, like if uh someone sees you, you will get like a ticket and like a boat inspection and like clearly there's no fire extinguishers or anything around. So like >> Yeah. or tags on that boat.

[00:17:24]>> Yeah. I was like, "At least you got a jacket." Uh but uh then that's when he initially thought the prop shaft was going and I was like, "I bet it's like super full of grass." And then it it goes around and then they're like chilling for a little bit, looking at it, fiddling, and then you just see the biggest clump of grass you could ever even believe. Like a full double dump riding lawn mower bag of grass just like float downstream. And I was like, I bet it works now.

[00:17:57]>> I totally missed that whole bit. Funny.

[00:17:59]>> Yeah, we knew that that shaft wasn't long for this world then. But it if anything I think it ran a little bit better after it got the grass tuned.

[00:18:09]>> Yeah. Yeah. His his ran pretty good for a while, but it it ate the shaft after about an hour of um it ate the splines on it, which is I I haven't taken a close look at it, but there's something and I mean he knows this. I'm not like saying he sucks at build or anything, but there is something very wrong with how that thing's set up that it can chew up the splines on a hardened steel drive shaft >> in the water >> in an hour.

[00:18:33]>> Yeah, >> I don't know what something's very misaligned there. But >> yeah, well, you don't got to feel bad about it. We just said that ours only lasted 30 seconds and his lasted >> Yeah. an hour.

[00:18:43]>> We'll get there. But >> I mean technically technically mine was still running at the end of the day and moving under its own power >> but not very. Yeah. Correct. I was barely able to idle with the choke fully engaged by the end of the day.

[00:18:59]>> Yeah. So since the pink jetboat was going so slow and I'd already got a bunch of good shots on the big jetboat.

[00:19:07]Um, I hopped on the e- foil and then, uh, Vicil and I kind of went down the creek into the lake and when we got to the mouth of the lake, I was doing like the drag racing thing, you know, three, two, one. And then I realized that I can't actually do that. I was doing like this and I just like kept doing like three and then one. like something in my given I was like flying on an electric surfboard on the water but then even now do you see that >> cuz you know like in the movies >> it's making me uncomfortable I know which is weird I can play a guitar but I can't do three two one >> you just did it >> yeah but I I just you know so I was doing so basically I was flying on an electric surfboard and I don't know if they'd seen one before like right next to them on their jetboat out and I'm just doing this like keep holding up three and then two and then three and they were looking at me like what do you want?

[00:20:09]>> Some kind of cool guy signal or what?

[00:20:11]>> Yeah, they they couldn't hear me or anything obviously. Dude, that thing is I've built a lot of loud things. That thing is loud.

[00:20:18]>> It's a triple dude.

[00:20:19]>> Yeah, with no muffler. And not only that, but it's exhaust exits like well above the water line.

[00:20:25]>> Oh, I was wondering why that makes more sense. Ours does when you're at full speed, but at lower speeds it's it's underwater.

[00:20:32]>> Yeah. That's what I was wondering. Even idling, it was like so loud.

[00:20:34]>> It's so loud. Yeah.

[00:20:35]>> It's so loud that Sparky got away from it when it started.

[00:20:38]>> Sparky is like super deaf.

[00:20:40]>> Yeah.

[00:20:41]>> That's really impressive cuz this morning you were like revving up the Camaro and Sparky was just sitting there.

[00:20:46]>> Yeah. Yeah.

[00:20:47]>> Wow.

[00:20:48]>> That's crazy. So I'm sitting there throwing random like gang signs at them and they're trying to figure it out and then I went like this and they were like, "Oh." Oh, then they figured out I wanted to race. And so on on e- foil boards, you have to like they have way more power than you can actually use in an instant because you need to get your weight further and further forward as you go faster. And then you also can't let off quickly cuz then you'll just nose bomb cuz you need to scoot further and further back.

[00:21:19]>> Yeah.

[00:21:19]>> It's not a what you're saying is it's not a sudden acceleration type of vehicle.

[00:21:24]>> Sport acceleration. Deceleration is a madeup word. Acceleration means um change in speed or direction. Any change in speed or direction. Technically, slamming on the brakes is accelerating.

[00:21:38]>> Huh. Video games would not have you believe that.

[00:21:41]>> Yeah. I mean, all words are made up, so it's kind of a dumb thing to say. Uh but the physics works both ways.

[00:21:47]>> Yeah. Scientifically, acceleration is any change in speed or direction.

[00:21:52]>> Turning left, that's acceleration.

[00:21:54]Hitting the brakes, that's acceleration.

[00:21:55]As far as your body's concerned, it's the same thing.

[00:21:58]>> Huh. Public school, man, they teach it different, don't they?

[00:22:05]>> Something like that.

[00:22:06]>> Yeah. So, eventually we figure out it's time to do a drag race. They slow down a bit so they can actually like see my fingers moving. And then I did a decent job. I think I did two threes and then a one. Close enough. And so I do the one and I actually that thing doesn't have like crazy good grip. the jetboat. So, like I got them off the line. I think I was doing pretty good and then like eventually we were like kind of neck and neck cuz I think theirs does like 40 something and my board does about 30.

That's when they start to pass me and I see another Bo's wake coming up in front of me and I was like, ah. Cuz like normally crashing the e- foil doesn't hurt that bad if you don't fall directly on it, but when you're going full throttle, I mean hitting the water at 30 2 ft above the ground, it just hurts, man. Like there's no way. There's nothing you can do like >> and so I see the boat wakes coming up and I >> I can't let off and accelerate to slow down >> and I can't go any faster to keep the front end up because I'm already max.

[00:24:26]And so I'm like, "All right, this is gonna hurt." And so I just hit the wave and just watch and I just slapped the water and then uh and then Yeah, I lost the drag race.

[00:24:44]Yep. So that was fun. But everything at that time was working cuz you were even still driving around the little boat.

[00:24:52]Even though it wasn't working great, it was still working. Yeah.

[00:24:54]>> You ended up getting the water out of it and we're doing pretty good.

[00:24:57]>> Yep.

[00:24:58]>> Did you have your life jacket on?

[00:25:00]>> Oh, yeah. No, I don't ride without a jacket.

[00:25:02]>> I um >> I'm pretty serious about life jackets in the water and um seat belts if the thing has a roll cage.

[00:25:11]>> Yeah. So, you were towing the e- foil around while you were >> No, no, I just had it at the truck.

[00:25:17]We're just going back and forth on the creek.

[00:25:19]>> We never went very far. We >> We never went very far. We just literally went like half a mile total from from from the dock.

[00:25:26]>> You know, the the very first time we took that jetboat out though, we actually did cover a lot of ground the very first time. But I think since then, we've never made it more than a couple miles.

[00:25:35]>> Here's the interesting thing. It the the the the very the big plus side to this is that I we were not trying to film a specific video or goal. It was just take the jetboat out with Vicil.

[00:25:48]>> He helped us fix the boat. We're helping him with his video. We didn't have a goal in mind, so I wasn't too stressed about it like doing a specific thing.

[00:25:54]So, I had some time to fiddle with it and and try to figure out what was going on. So, at one of the times that we were back at the dock, I just pulled it up out of the water. And uh Davey conveniently had his whole service truck there, so he had all the tools. So, I took the carburetors off. I took them all apart, cleaned them, put it back together. And the odd thing is it did run a little better after I did that.

[00:26:15]Just enough for me to be be confident enough to drive it all the way out to the lake. And yeah, I was still cruising around pretty good. I could modulate the choke and the throttle at the same time and get it to like get up on plane and cruise for a while and then it just started deteriorating rapidly. So, while I was out there, the farthest away from the truck you could get, well, not could get, but that we did get, >> um, >> past the dog paddling limit.

[00:26:39]>> Yeah.

[00:26:40]>> Uh, Vasil Vasil called me and he's like, "Hey, uh, I don't know if the drive shaft's broke or the impeller, but I I'm I'm like I'm broken." And I'm like, "All right, where are you?" And facil's never been here before. So his description of where he was was like I was like, "Are you upstream or downstream?" And he's like, "I'm downstream." And then I'm like, "So you went here and then you went there." And he's like, "Yeah." I'm like, "No, that's upstream for me." And he's like, >> "No, but I'm going downstream." I'm like, "Oh, okay. You mean you're going?"

[00:27:06]Anyway, we eventually figured out where he was and I was hanging out with next to Davey's boat at this point and we were cruising along at a pretty good clip and we start going up the river but like the main channel of the river, not the little side shoot where the dock is.

[00:27:19]>> Current was way stronger and the boat started running worse and worse and worse and I Davey was like, "Oh, do you want me to tow you or whatever?" I was like, "No, just get Vicil like I'll be fine. I can go back around the other way. Whatever." Um I was like, "It's running well enough. I'll just get there slowly." So, Vasil's just drifting down river in his dead jetboat. We we catch up with him >> and uh >> he did have an ore.

[00:27:42]>> Yeah, I did on his >> safety. He did have a ore.

[00:27:47]>> So, that means he was coming down the river sideways. It >> Well, sometimes he was going forward sometimes, too. He was going down the river in any which direction you want.

[00:27:56]>> Anyway, so we caught up to him with the boat and Dave trying to >> accelerating is really what matters.

[00:28:01]>> He was not accelerating. In fact, he was just drifting.

[00:28:05]>> Oh, >> his his speed and direction was not changing. He was going a constant speed and direction.

[00:28:10]>> Oh, >> he may have been rotating on his axis, but that's not really, you know.

[00:28:15]>> Okay. Anyway, >> I see.

[00:28:20]>> Um anyway, so we caught up to him and I Davey threw him the rope and it got tangled. So then I grabbed the rope and I like idled it over there with the other jetboat. And then >> you're like the little tugboat between the the dock and the big uh cruise ship.

[00:28:35]>> That's exactly what I was. Um >> the tugboat.

[00:28:38]>> So then one not running very well.

[00:28:40]>> Correct.

[00:28:41]>> Um so at this point uh Dave takes off towing Vicil up river cuz we were closer to go around. Basically it's a little loop that you could do and we were closer going up river than down river.

[00:28:51]So I tried to follow and after a while I realized I wasn't moving. I was going upstream and I had the appearance of moving, but in fact, if I looked at the shore, I had been in the same within the same 50 feet for like 10 minutes.

[00:29:05]>> You're mini boat treadmilling.

[00:29:07]>> Yeah. Cuz every once in a while, it would fully die if I tried to give it too much throttle >> and then I'd drift backward a little bit and then I'd start it up and it run well enough to get forward a little bit and then I'd just stay there kind of feathering the throttle.

[00:29:17]>> Averaging the speed of the water basically like >> Yeah.

[00:29:20]>> So, at that point I gave up, turned like and just turned around and started idling back down. A man on a jet ski did offer to help me. Um, as well as some other people in a boat, but at like I was still like, "Yeah, it's it's fine.

[00:29:32]It runs like crap. I know why it runs like crap. It'll just keep running this way. It'll be fine."

[00:29:35]>> I see a little tiny pink jetboat barely milling in the river and they're like, "You need some help, man."

[00:29:40]>> I'M JUST LIKE, "NAH, it'll be fine."

[00:29:44]>> So, I went back around the other way and it just got progressively worse to the point at the very end it would just barely idle. Luckily, I wasn't going up against much of a current on the little side shoot of the river. So, I was able to just idle along and I was probably within like a 100 yards of the dock by the time Davey got done towing Vicil back and helping him get his boat out of the water and everything and then came looking for me. And so, he did end up towing me back the last little bit, but the boat was still running and and it was still running when facilities broke.

[00:30:14]So, you know, >> so facilities completely died like >> Well, I mean, it would still run. it just wouldn't go anywhere because the splines were stripped on the on the drive shaft.

[00:30:24]>> But there's more.

[00:30:26]>> Yep.

[00:30:26]>> So, during the midst of all this, when nothing was really running right, and I knew that we weren't going to get any more good footage, I was like, "All right, time to rip the E foils." So, Rem and I, he has a board, too. We both take upstream cuz I wanted to get all the way up to the bridge that we filmed one of the times that we did the mini jetboat. I was like, I want to go up to the bridge and then like coast downstream because it was actually ripping pretty hard. The current was solid.

[00:30:55]>> It was a really good current. And so I've never actually e- foiled down that good of a current before, like since I've been good at e- foiling. And so I tried it once like earlier than I should have and I crashed a lot. But now that I'm better, I'm like, "All right, let's run it." And so we're going upstream, going upstream, killing our battery, killing our battery. There's this first bridge that I barely made it through and then Rem crashed and his board like hit the pilings holding up the bridge.

[00:31:24]>> Oh, shoot.

[00:31:25]>> And uh and he was just like, "No, no, no, no, no." Because he knew that he wasn't in danger, but the board is like expensive carbon fiber with a thin layer of epoxy on the outside and like hitting a piling, it could mess it up pretty easily. And so it hits just the wood ones, not the metal ones, and it was fine. But the current was so strong, he's like full throttle, but since he wasn't flying, he couldn't like barely get through the bridge, so he was treadmilling, too. And then he eventually gets through. We go through the log jam and we're going upstream and I look down and I'm at like 30. And I'm like, "What are you at?" And he's like, "30." And I'm like, "Okay, well, there's so much current. For sure we're going to make it back, you know?" And so we continue to keep going upstream even knowing we were down to 30. And then we go around the bridge. We turn around and I'm like, "Yeah, that was so sick. Time to just coast the downstream."

[00:32:26]>> We turn around and it's the first time we've ever gone that direction all day.

[00:32:31]There's like at least a 15 mph headwind.

[00:32:36]>> And I was like, "Oh." cuz I thought we were just going to be like barely any throttle just ripping down the river.

[00:32:43]But with the headwind, we're working just as hard to go that way as we did up. And I was like, this is not going to end well. And so I get around the log jam, which was like the main thing I was worried about because you have to go upstream for a second to get around it.

[00:33:00]>> And then I get into the place that's at least headed in the right section of Riverbends to get back to the truck. And then it just dies and I fall and I'm like, "Oh no." Like it didn't even give me like the 10% warning. I just like overran the battery. And so I was like, "How far are we from the dock, Rem?" Cuz he has a watch that it shows you by like water, not, you know, in a straight line. And he was like, "Like 2 miles."

[00:33:28]And I was like, "Oh, I haven't swam two miles in a couple minutes."

[00:33:33]So, I just start uh >> our plan was I was like, "Cool. Well, he towed me for a while and then he realized that his battery is going to completely die before we got to the truck if we kept doing that." So, he was going to fly, get a new battery, and then come back and get me and tow me.

[00:33:52]And it was a pretty good plan except that when I got back to the dock, Rem was just standing there laughing at me getting towed by Davey, obviously. But he gets there and I was like, "Where's Edwin?" and he's like up the river that way. He's like, >> he told me to come get the spare battery from his truck, but he didn't tell me he had the keys >> and the truck was locked. So, he's like He's like, I don't have enough battery to go back and get him, so he'll be here in a while.

[00:34:20]>> Yeah.

[00:34:21]>> He's like, I can't do anything about it.

[00:34:23]The truck's locked. The battery's in the truck. My battery's dead. He was just standing there laughing. It was cuz I we decided this right around this bend where we realized okay like it as each bend the water gets progressively and progressively like less current until it's basically not moving at all. When he left on his own we were going less than half a mile an hour. And I was like, "Oh, well, we only need to go like another mile and a half." But it was starting to get cold and the current was getting less and less on every bend. And so we decided this plan. He gets up and takes off. And right when he goes around the bend when I couldn't see him anymore, I was like, "Hey, hey." But my voice is all gone from Gambler and there's no way he could hear me anyways.

[00:35:11]>> And I was like, "Oh, the key is in my board." cuz the boards have like they're waterproof on the inside to protect the batteries and stuff. So, I just throw my key in there and I had all the camera equipment or I wouldn't have even locked it normally, but it was too late. He was >> I remembered the second he went out of eyesight and I was like, "Oh." So, I did paddle for like well over a mile, but then I see Davey's boat roll up and I was like, "Yes." But I could see the dock from where I was. like I was >> so by the time they got to you probably for like yeah a long while >> but um but I see Davey and then he throws me a rope and I didn't know that the other boats had completely died at this point and he was like you're the third boat I tow today and I was like third cuz I didn't know that Vicil was you know situation and I didn't know what happened but I was like oh well at least I lasted the longest.

[00:36:10]And then Rem was like, "No, I lasted the longest. I didn't have a problem at all cuz he ended up with enough battery to still make it back somehow."

[00:36:17]>> Yep. So, >> so basically, everyone had problems.

[00:36:20]>> Yeah. It was probably my drag race that drained it significantly faster than Rims. I was going to say Edwin's problems were 100% self-inflicted.

[00:36:28]>> Like they always seem to be.

[00:36:30]>> They always are.

[00:36:31]>> We always find our way to have problems.

[00:36:33]I mean, I'm not saying mine was without, you know, I could have chosen to not go out to the lake when I knew the boat didn't run right. like that was also self-inflicted. But the boat had it stayed consistently running the way it was, I would have been fine. But, you know, here we are.

[00:36:49]>> Here we are.

[00:36:49]>> At the end of the day, I was like I Edwin was like exhausted getting dragged back to the dock and I just pulled out my phone to film. I was like, "So, Edwin, I think the moral of the story here is Grindhard should stay away from boats."

[00:37:01]>> Yeah. And the punch line to that is then I went and looked at on marketplace at boats the next day because I was like man normal boats are pretty nice. They just work and you can go out on the lake with your friends.

[00:37:12]>> The other thing we need to stay away from is anything that goes airborne like sky related stuff, airplanes, all of that. If we had swindly grind hard problems and we're like hopefully we can glide to that patch of grass and be like oh >> things are like overengineered with redundancy in those ways for reasons.

[00:37:30]The only thing that we could consider as a a non um aquatic or terrestrial mode of transportation is a hovercraft because if you run out of air, you can just sit on the ground. And some of them they're usually float, too. So, if you run out of engine power above water, you can still float around.

[00:37:50]>> Mhm. Hovercrafts are pretty sweet and they do work pretty good in the snow, which is fun.

[00:37:54]>> Yeah. But they only work good on flat ground really. And we don't have a lot of that around here. The only reason we've never got one.

[00:38:02]>> Yeah, >> that's what I was going to say. You guys do a lot of flying here anyway, even though they're cheap to stay on the ground.

[00:38:07]>> See, leaving the ground temporarily.

[00:38:10]>> Yeah.

[00:38:10]>> With the intent to come back down.

[00:38:12]>> Yeah. But that's still flying, you know.

[00:38:14]>> Yeah. Yeah. But it's not uh flying that relies on reliability.

[00:38:18]>> You know, gravity's gravity's yet to be proven wrong. So, >> it brings you down every time.

[00:38:24]>> Yeah. It's a pretty solid theory these days. Yep. Um, >> yeah.

[00:38:30]>> Well, I could talk about my Shrek stuff if if you don't have anything to add to the >> jetboat. Did Did has anyone told Chris yet about the Mechalac situation?

[00:38:43]>> So, you know, Davey was here the other day. You met Dave?

[00:38:45]>> He owns a Mechalac dealership.

[00:38:47]>> Yeah.

[00:38:48]>> They're almost certainly going to give us a Mechac.

[00:38:52]>> Yeah.

[00:39:03]>> Mechac, which is a, you know, excavator and skid steer allin-one >> and more. Um, so yeah, we I think we have a call with him sometime this week or something, but yeah, to work out all the details. But yeah, sounds like it sounds like we're getting a Mechalac to play with.

[00:39:20]>> Yep. Oh, believe me, I've already been thinking about all the things we can put it to use, doing watching. I was telling Edwin, your friend uh your friend that does landscaping and is super into excavators when we were at your house for 4th of July.

[00:39:36]>> Um I was like, "Did Edwin tell you that we might be getting a Mechalac?" And he was like, I just assumed that would have like you would have already told him because because you know, like that's the main thing he cares about is excavators.

[00:39:46]>> And he's like, "What? No." And I was like, "Yeah, so like you know Davey, right?" And he's like, "Oh, yeah, of course I know Dave." Cuz you know, small town. They both work in the same industry, right?

[00:39:54]>> And uh I was like, "Yeah." So like he apparently we have some fans at Mechalac and he's a fan and like they've worked it all out and apparently they're going to just give us a Mechalac. And I mean obviously in exchange for it showing up on the channel and he's like, "Dude, that's bananas." That was the word he used was bananas. I was like, "Nice."

[00:40:13]>> He was probably even more excited than you guys.

[00:40:16]>> Probably. Yeah. And he's like, "You got to get a" Well, when he talked to me about it, he was like, "You guys got to get a tilt rotator."

[00:40:21]>> That was the first thing he said to me, too. He's like, "You have to get a tilt rotator."

[00:40:25]>> And then And then the second thing was he's like, "Dude, you got to follow follow this guy on Instagram. He has one of those. He has a he has a mechac." And he's an artist with that thing.

[00:40:34]>> So, I did. I went and followed the guy and he's very good with the mechac.

[00:40:37]Yeah. There you go.

[00:40:38]>> There you go.

[00:40:38]>> Anyway, so what's what's a rotator?

[00:40:41]>> Tilt rotator. It goes on the bucket and it allows you to spin the bucket around and tilt it.

[00:40:46]>> So, it's it's largely like for fine detail landscaping stuff or cleaning ditches, >> which is mainly what he does.

[00:40:52]>> Yeah.

[00:40:53]>> Yeah. So, for most of what we do, we probably don't really need a tilt rotator, especially because the way the Mechalac is, it's got an extra joint in one of the arms, so it can tilt >> itself. No, he normally builds like super fancy retaining walls and staircases at like the lakeous in town.

[00:41:10]>> And so he showed me the way he used to do it. He's got this like suction thing that like sucks the slate so he can pick it up without like scratching the edges and stuff >> and he like sucks it and then he has these plastic things and he sets it down and then he gets around it and then picks it up just right and then gets it just to the right spot and then lowers it >> and now he just picks it up.

[00:41:34]Boom. Picks it up. Boom.

[00:41:36]>> Yep.

[00:41:37]>> Really big difference.

[00:41:38]>> But yeah. Yeah. Tilt rotators are really cool. They they basically it goes it's just like a extra layer in between your quick coupler and your bucket.

[00:41:46]>> And it's got Well, depending on the size. The smaller ones only have one cylinder for the tilt. The bigger ones have two just for extra strength. So, you know, if your excavator bucket is like your hand curled back at you, it allows it to tilt in this axis.

[00:41:58]>> Oh, cool.

[00:41:59]>> Left to right. But it also can rotate 360°. So, it has the tilt arms and a rotator motor in like a, you know, 8 inch thick thing in between your normal quick coupler and your bucket.

[00:42:10]>> So, this way it'll do 180.

[00:42:12]>> No, no, no. It'll spin 180, >> but it'll 360. That's what I meant.

[00:42:16]Yeah, 360. It'll spin forever. Um, in fact, if you watch like a lot of videos of people doing stuff with this, they'll be like doing time- lapses of them like putting in rocks or whatever, and in between they'll often hold it off to the side, and it'll just be like as they're going by. But yeah, so it can tilt like I don't know what it doesn't do a full 180 left to right. It does probably like I would guess like 30 or 40 degrees each way from from center. But then you can do that at any rotation and you can still have your thumb.

[00:42:46]>> Uh no, no, because the the thumb is the thumb would be pointed in the wrong direction 90% of the time. Plus, you're using the thumb controls generally for it. But >> a lot of tilt rotators also have a little teeny tiny grapple built into the end of them. just a little baby one for picking up small stuff. Or you can put a grapple on the other end. That's what a lot of the landscape guys do is they just have like a >> a clamshell type grapple >> on the tilt rotator so they could pick up a rock >> and rotate it and then tilt it and then like set it down over there.

[00:43:20]>> So's like, if I could talk about heavy machinery for 20 more minutes, I'm not going to have to talk about Shrek.

[00:43:26]>> No, that's not my goal.

[00:43:28]That's we we could jump in and talk about Shrek. I just realized that that nobody's told Chris cuz he wasn't there that day.

[00:43:41]>> Guess how fast the Mechalac can go. Like travel speed.

[00:43:50]>> It's faster than a lot of skid steers, let alone excavators. So, it has a skid steer undercarriage basically and a second it's it's it's um drive motors are on a separate hydraulic pump from all of the action so it doesn't slow it down. You can be using the boom while driving.

[00:44:07]>> And it does not slow you down.

[00:44:09]>> I don't know why loggers like them so much, >> I guess.

[00:44:11]>> And their dexterity.

[00:44:12]>> Yeah. And they can fit in incredibly tight spaces.

[00:44:15]>> Um I haven't like looked into it a lot to see. I think that in terms of logging, what they're probably used for a lot is like smallcale forestry stuff where you're like cleaning up somebody's property and making it look really nice and doing selective logging cuz like large scale mountain logging around here that machine is like smaller than the bucket on most machines that do the logging, you know, like nobody's using it for like huge scale stuff. It's all for the like >> Yeah.

[00:44:40]>> residential logging where they have to be really in tight spaces and make it look nice and not tear up the landscape as much. But >> 6 mph is really fast for any kind of machinery like that.

[00:44:51]>> 8 ton.

[00:44:52]>> Uh yeah, they make a a six, an eight, and a 10 ton version of the They call it the MCR. Um so yeah, it's basically twice the size of your excavator.

[00:45:04]>> But it's also a skid steer.

[00:45:17]>> It's not even my Shrek stuff. This is pop culture at this point.

[00:45:24]>> Well, that's still Shrek.

[00:45:26]>> So, I'll I'll I'll say it in the the easiest way for people who don't follow Formula 1 to like to to get it. But, >> man, there's something I never thought I'd hear in the same sentence, tracking Formula 1.

[00:45:41]>> That's why I thought this was so worthy to talk about on the podcast. So basically I was just watching the the Silverstone Grand Prix was was this weekend and I was watching it with Rem and the like we're kind of like talking during the race cuz the end got kind of boring and uh I was like he just said something about Shrek too and Rem was like I'm sure he didn't like cuz they're normally like pretty who the announcer >> the announcer on not me though the announcer on TV. uh who's like the guy like he's been doing all of it for Sky Sports or News or whatever.

[00:46:21]>> So uh um Andy was a racer. But uh so anyways I'm like no like for real rewind it like I swear they were just talking about Shrek the movie.

[00:46:33]I was like I need to know what they say.

[00:46:37]And so basically this safety car was going to come in at the very end and then it didn't. And he said, he said, "I know that you're not a fan of the ending of Shrek 2, but this is even worse."

[00:46:51]>> Oh my.

[00:46:52]>> And I was like, "Is that some kind of inside joke?" I was like, cuz normal they never talk about like pop culture or like definitely not Shrek. Like they talk about cars, motors, drivers, records. like this guy has 42 lap old tires and this guy only has 30 so that's why he's catching up.

[00:47:15]>> They rarely rarely go off script like that. Like sometimes they say like, "Oh, this this pro tennis player is going to be waving the flag for the final lap, but it's all like within the context of the race." Yes.

[00:47:29]>> But this was not at all relevant. And I was like, "What the heck?" And I was like, so I looked it up. Apparently, this announcer in China in 2012, uh, I think it was Shoeacher went off track or something and had to DNF the race. And 2012 is around when I guess he'd watch Shrek 2 and he's like, "This is just awful. This is worse than the ending of Shrek 2."

[00:47:58]And so from 2012, this safety car incident happens and the other announcer remembered that he said that and threw him on the under the bus and made fun of him during the live race.

[00:48:12]>> That's impressive to even remember that.

[00:48:14]That's hilarious. These guys remember it.

[00:48:17]>> Maybe it's been an inside joke between them since then.

[00:48:19]>> It must have probably been making fun of him the whole time. He said it so as a matter of fact. And then they just went on to talking about the race, which is why Rem didn't even notice that they said anything. I was like, "You just have your Shrek ears permanently turned on. Shrekers are always on, dude." And I was like, "Wow, I'm so glad that they're talking about Shrek, even if it's under a negative connotation. I mean, you know, Shrek 2 isn't as good as the first one, but like it is the second best Shrek movie.

[00:48:48]>> They do deteriorate rapidly per movie.

[00:48:51]I'm curious that the new one's going to come out and I'm really curious how bad it is.

[00:48:55]>> There's no way that five is as bad as three.

[00:48:58]>> Really? I don't even seen three. See, I think I watch >> I definitely haven't seen four.

[00:49:02]>> Yeah. Well, every time you guys say this, I'm like, don't bother.

[00:49:05]>> Shrek 1 and Shrek 2 is really what created >> the cult classic that we know and love.

[00:49:11]And if anyone's like, Shrek 2 wasn't that good. It's like, well, your favorite Shrek character that isn't like a main Shrek character is probably Puss and Boots. So, you probably liked Shrek, too, even when if it was just when you were a kid.

[00:49:27]>> So, speaking of Shrek, Shrek stuff's like pretty collectible now, apparently.

[00:49:31]Cuz I saw this Shrek toaster on Marketplace locally, and I was like, "Oh, I should just buy that for Edwin and like it'll be a present or whatever, and it burns a little Shrek into your toast."

[00:49:41]>> They wanted $82 for it for a used to Shrek toaster.

[00:49:47]>> Jeez, what do you think they cost on a Shrek toast?

[00:49:50]I don't know. I was thinking about getting on eBay and looking up Shrek Collectibles and sending you the link and, you know, Shrek Collectibles.

[00:49:57]>> Maybe I'll find one at like a a thrift store for a regular used toaster price.

[00:50:08]>> I don't think I can say either of those.

[00:50:10]>> Yeah, I'm mainly into the movie and their version of Super Smash Bros. I don't know if you guys ever played that, but nope. There was a 3D version of Shrek and it just played Bad Reputation over and over again and you do like the fight, you know, how he like hits the uh the big barrels of ale in the coliseum.

[00:50:29]It's basically like that but in a bar and and it's just like Super Smash but 3D.

[00:50:36]>> Wow.

[00:50:37]>> And it's like it was actually kind of hard cuz like Super Smash when you get hit and like when you're aiming for someone to hit >> it's left, right, up, down. Yeah, but the Shrek game, I mean, I don't know why it didn't turn into like this incredibly uh competitive professional spectating sport like Super Smash did, but Shrek, it's such a failure. I don't even know the name of it, and no one else will.

[00:51:10]I don't even have a PS2 or a PlayStation that has a disc anymore, but I have the disc because it meant so much to me as a kid that I had that game even though it was violent and had alcohol in it, but my mom still let me play it. Wow, that's surprising. You know what else is funny is that I knew you for like probably I don't know at least half a decade and you never talked about Shrek once in the first like half decade of me knowing you. And then all of a sudden one day Will, you and Will are in the limo or whatever and you just suddenly decide that Shrek is the most important thing in life.

[00:51:44]>> Well, Will said something about Shrek and I was like, "Wow, I think I have someone to talk about Shrek with."

[00:51:51]>> Cuz I knew that like you weren't going to talk about Shrek with me.

[00:51:54]>> But it's still shocking that in all those years you never even mentioned it.

My very favorite you and Will Shrek story is when you were on the airplane and you switched headphones and one of you watched Shrek 1 and one watched Shrek 2 and I had such a hard time keeping myself composed on that entire flight cuz you were just like like listening to the wrong audio. I remember I could not take that seriously at all. Well, the most unserious part is when the little lunch tray thing came by and Will and I are trying to pause our screens at the exact same time like but also in a part where we're not going to miss anything good. So, we each have our hands crossed on each other's screens over the pause button waiting while she's waiting to give us our food. And then we like 1 2 3 go. And we like nailed it. And she was like, "What are you guys doing?" And we're like, "Well, I'm watching Shrek 1 and he's watching Shrek 2, but we're listening with the audio from the other one." And she was like, "Is it good?"

[00:52:59]>> Yeah. And you know what you told her?

[00:53:01]You were like, "Oh, it's amazing. It's like the same movie.

[00:53:08]>> I'm just trying to order a ginger ale."

[00:53:10]Like, >> you're like, "I'd like a ginger ale.

[00:53:13]Maybe two. I'm going to need two."

[00:53:15]>> Oh my gosh.

[00:53:17]>> Yep. Well, I could end us on a serious note if you guys want.

[00:53:20]>> Yeah, I I need to uh use the bathroom.

But no, it's it's going to be really cool. And yeah, we're taking all these different, you know, 4x4s that are donated and they're going to be medivvac uh trucks out on the front lines. So, I'm going to deliver it straight to a soldier.

Cuz I know they're just all >> Yeah, it's all just donated like mostly Toyota Hiluxes, but they also have like firet trucks, ambulances. I'm not sure what all is going with us this time, but it'll be a hodgepodge of >> probably a good variety of things, but yeah, it should be fun. And I'm actually taking one of the uh well, the Grind Hard flag that lived here in the shop for like 2 years. It's in surprisingly good condition.

[00:54:34]>> Yeah. So, it didn't collect too much dust. I still am going to clean it up a little bit, but um right now I'm doing a fundraiser for my specific vehicle and uh anyone who donates to it is going to get their name on the flag and then it'll live in the uh shop over there in Ukraine. So >> So how far is the trip? How long?

[00:54:49]>> It's like 1,400 or 1500 miles.

So, like having a goal in mind while also seeing a bunch of different countries. That sounds >> Yeah, I think it'll be a cool way to see everything and be part of something cool. Right.

[00:56:27]>> You're making a cool video that shows an aspect of something >> that >> like a lot of people maybe think they know a lot about, but then like this specific aspect of a very specific thing is like just such a deep dive into like a whole different universe, which is kind of like when I'm on YouTube, the kind of stuff that I wish we could make, but like we're pretty locked into this location or like what's going on here.

[00:56:57]But like I follow a lot of like independent news channels and stuff and people talking about like >> I just love like the this is happening like as a matterof fact kind of journalism, >> right?

[00:57:30]>> I actually wish it made sense for me to go that it would be a lot of fun, but the timing is um less than ideal for >> I was thinking how good of a candidate I am for that because we've done a couple road trips this year, including the one that we just did and the little >> ironically this one will probably be safer. That's what I was thinking cuz they have all this stuff about like the safety and how you inspect the vehicles to make sure they're fine and all of that. And I was like, "Oh, this is like so easy compared to like even just getting the Nash home early."

[00:58:00]>> Driving whatever you're driving is going to be way safer than the Nash or the Samurai or Well, the MTVs weren't unsafe for themselves. Like, there's very little you could do that would hurt you in an MTV, but they are not safe if someone else gets in your way.

[00:58:16]>> Yeah. Yeah.

[00:58:18]But >> so you guys going to have a mechanic with you or >> uh I think they go through them like before you start the trip and then they just want you to check all the basics and stuff like make sure it's not losing any fluids and all that kind of stuff.

[00:58:29]But yeah, I'm sure some of the guys will be mechanically sound cuz I'm not as mechanically sound as you guys are.

[00:58:34]Also, uh it's worth noting that like a not worth keeping anymore used vehicle in Europe, very different thing than here. Like that's like let's say for example a Toyota Hilux cuz that's what a lot of them are, right? That Toyota Hilux that there is being donated because it's so old and crusty here that'd be like a 10 or $15,000 Toyota.

[00:58:56]Oh yeah. No, they're they're actually like pretty nice cars. Like I've looked at their pictures of other convoys and like a lot of them are pretty nice but Yeah. So yeah, it'll be like traveling in luxury, you know.

[00:59:34]>> I know. But no, he didn't want to miss the Shrek story cuz the tale of Shrek is such a good tale apparently. I'm going to use this opportunity, too, while we're going along.
