Picture a body wrapped in dense brown hair, legs that drape over the edge of your palm, fangs you can see from across the room. This is a tarantula, but forget the gentle pet you're imagining.
The Chinese bird spider is one of the very few tarantulas whose venom is genuinely serious to a human.
