Using cotton buds and aggressive wax softening drops to remove earwax can push the wax deeper into the ear canal and cause it to solidify in hidden recesses, making removal more difficult and potentially damaging the eardrum; professional endoscopic irrigation is the safe method for clearing stubborn, solidified earwax.

WHAT A MESS! Two Ears Ruined by Cotton Buds & Softener (RARE IRRIGATION FOOTAGE) Episode 640
Added:What a mess. Look at the absolute state of this poor gentleman's ear.
Um you're going to see two ears in this video and they're both from different patients, but they've done exactly the same thing.
And it made it very tough to get this out. You are also going to see some endoscopic irrigation. I know a few of you like seeing that because you don't see it um on many of the channels, if any in fact.
So, stay tuned for that.
So, my name's Nurse Richard the Wax Wizard, by the way. Thanks for joining me.
So, what this gentleman had done uh a couple of things. He'd obviously used a cotton bud as uh a lot of people do, sadly, still, despite my best efforts.
Um when he felt he couldn't hear very well, so he thought, "I'll get it out with the cotton bud." Obviously, it didn't work. It pushed it down deeper and then he thought, "I'll try something else. I'll try putting a load of a aggressive wax softening drops um in his ear." And all that proceeded to do was was it kind of it would it would have at the time like turned it into a like a mushy consistency, but because you're lying on your side when you put this in, it just falls even deeper down uh then gets into the recess that you can see here. And the recess is the is the is the area just on the right hand side of this ear. And there is one down below as well.
Uh so, you can't actually see around those bends if you look straight on.
Um so, it sits it's hidden in there and then because he's stopped using the drops, what's happened is this thing has solidified all the way down there.
Second patient had done exactly the same thing as well.
And these things are a faff to get out, let me tell you.
Um so, I think we're using not the fine end tube, maybe the size above that.
Generally speaking, there's four sizes that I use.
Um these are Neil's tubes. If you've not seen his channel, go and check them out.
Um, he's called the Wax Whisperer.
And he provides these tools which are different size. Most people just use a full size and a fine end.
Uh, but Neil uh, supplies all the sizes in between that.
Which are invaluable for stuff like this. Where stuff that's deep down and you still need a fair amount of suction because with the the smaller the tube goes, the less power uh, the thing can generate.
But sometimes you need a a bit more oomph, but you still need a bit bit smaller. So, that's why I've gone for the size above the fine end tube here.
And we do end up um, irrigating this ear because it was just firmly stuck down there.
And it's I've always said it's a bit pot luck when you um, when you're irrigating an ear whether you get some good images.
There is a lot of bubbling and blurring, but there are some really cool images in both of the ears. So, that was stay tuned for that.
Before I go any further though, let's do today's subscriber of the day.
And today it is Trina Fernandez. Many thanks for your message, Trina. You're going to see the irrigation coming now. That's the probe which shoots out the jet of water.
Uh, Trina left me a message saying, um, "I don't want to be subscriber of the day because you'll never pick me anyway.
So, but I did. So, congratulations. You are today's subscriber of the day.
Um, so you can see a lot of this stuff flying past the camera already.
And every now and then we stop just to reassess, just to have a look if it's gone. Now, it's cleared a bit of the debris around the around the edges, but it's the bit in the inferior recess that I'm after now.
Like I said, it is pot luck. So, I know this isn't a great image, but there is really good one a little further on where you can actually see it flapping and then you'll see it lifting off.
It's quite satisfying.
I hope you like the background, by the way.
Yes, I have found a new toy when it comes to generating um some backgrounds.
I hope you like the last one in the previous video.
Um and um this one We will We will maybe have a pop quiz on this one in a minute, but let's just wait till the end of this one first.
Um So, as you can see, bubble now the bubbles you often get when these things are trying to release cuz the the the you know, the there'll be a bit of air trapped underneath it. So, as it's lifting you will see bubbles flying up for it, but this is the image I was talking about.
Where you can see it's frantically wobbling about and really trying its best to lift up and all of a sudden it does.
You might need to duck when it comes flying at you.
There's one, but I don't think that's all of it.
It's having a party in there, isn't it?
Dancing about.
Let's hopefully get the other one cuz I think that is nestling against the eardrum, so it will it will help getting that one out.
It'll make the eardrum less less mobile, so it won't be a will be vibrating as well when sound hits it. So, that's why I'm persevering with this one.
And there it goes. Look at that. A lovely spotless eardrum and it's flown out there. So, I'm going to grab that with the uh suction tube as it's no longer stuck in that recess.
Gets a bit foggy.
So, let's just grab that and pull that one away. And there we have it. A very different looking ear canal than the first one.
And this is the second patient who you can see has done exactly the same thing.
It's a bit softer this though, he's so he's he's put his drops in a bit more recently.
But it's kind of smeared and smudged all over the eardrum. So, again, we decided after a after a bit of faffing about with this, we did decide to um to go in with the irrigator. Yeah, for a few reasons, because it is because it is mush and it's on the eardrum.
There's a lot of risks involved in uh hoovering little mushy bits off the eardrum and around the edges of the ear canal.
And if it's not like formed, if it's just a bit of a slush, it's just much easier to to rinse it out. So, that's what we did with that one.
So, let's So, in fact, let's have a fun fact about the image you can see behind me. You probably figured out that I'm which country I'm in.
If you haven't, then I'm in Egypt.
That's me there, you can see, on the Sphinx.
And uh it's just This is not an actual image, obviously.
It's AI AI generated. It's our phone that new tool that can do these things.
So, you're going to be seeing a lot more of these these silly backgrounds. But, it's a conversation starter and it's something for me to talk about other than ears, because what do we say? There's only so much you can say about the ears.
But, yeah, I've I haven't actually been here uh to see the pyramids. I have been to Egypt a couple of times, but I went more down the to the south of Egypt. I went to see the um where the Valley of the Kings are and the temples and they are impressive, let me tell you. When you think you've seen a big statue, go to Egypt and you look at these things, you Well, no, that's a big statue.
It does make you wonder how in earth they did that. And it wasn't aliens, before anybody leaves it in the comments comment section, because yeah, there's a lot of conspiracy theories, isn't there, around these things and um how they got there.
It definitely wasn't aliens.
A lot of very skilled people and skilled engineering.
Um and I believe that they they trans cuz this is how do they get these things out? I believe part of the the found um uh an old dried up section of the Nile around these. So, that's where they used to transport them from, but that that that part of the Nile's now dried up.
Um And yeah, so yeah, fun fact about uh the pyramids.
Did you know how a lot of the laborers who built it were paid?
They were paid with beer.
Beer was apparently up to about 10 L a day. So, God knows how they managed to do it. I don't think it was as strong as the beer that we know today.
Um but there was a big big beer culture in ancient Egypt.
Um they believed it to be safer than the Nile water.
Uh having stayed in a hotel right next to the Nile, I can vouch for that.
Um And yeah, they paid paid them in beer.
Um So, yeah, we have a we have a lot to thank the ancient Egyptians from. I don't think they invented beer, but it certainly was a big a big beer culture there.
So, you can see all the mushy stuff has gone around that area now. So, we're um going to carry on irrigating because there's a solid lump here. And while I've already irrigating, I thought I'll just carry on to see if we can get a lift. See if we can get these things to fly up, and it is beginning.
Um and I I do have a lot to thank Egypt for actually cuz I did go on a holiday years and years and years ago, like I said, to Luxor to the Valley of the Kings and the Temple of Hatshepsut and all that. And when I was uh there, we bought I think it's a touristy thing that they try and sell.
And these are beetles, these scarab beetles.
Uh here it comes.
And apparently they're they're an aid to um uh fertility, apparently.
Uh, something to do with the the Beatles that they they they thought they magically formed in dung.
And they just came out of nowhere, so it was like a miracle of life type thing.
Um, and my wife got So, that's why we bought one. And a couple of weeks after, my wife got pregnant with my first born.
So, maybe there is some truth in it being a fertility aid. I just think it had more to do with cheap Egyptian wine and an hotel room overlooking the Nile, but that's another story.
Anyway, I hope you enjoyed that video.
If you did, then please leave us a comment down below. Um, uh, feel free to ask me any questions.
What you want to see going forward in the future, what background you might have liked to see, where would you like to see me next.
Um, but for now, take care of yourself, and I'll see you soon. Ta-da.
