Added:[bell] [bell] >> Well, welcome to another dyno days video.
This one might be a bit of a long video cuz there's a bit of a story behind this car. So, grab yourself a cup of tea.
And what we'll do is we'll get tuning this one and then we'll talk about what we've done, which has been a little bit.
Now, if you follow the Instagram channel, bit of Facebook, and stuff like that, you know that it came in without a belt on it.
But it had some parts that we don't use here at Dyno Days. So, we've sort of retrofitted the bits that we do like. Um the bits that we can trust.
But yeah, it it also had some other health issues. So, yeah.
Sit back. Let's get tuning this on the EcuTek software and then we'll talk about why this car's been here a week.

>> Well, this one's been here a little a little while, hasn't it?
>> A massive amount of time, to be fair. A couple of weeks, I'd say.
>> That's longer than cars are normally here.
>> I I massively, yes.
>> Um >> But, it did turn up on the trailer, and it was, "Can you have a look at it, and then fix the problem?" So, from that point of view, it wasn't Whilst it was booked in, it wasn't technically booked in for all the work we really found with it, so.
>> Sure. So, where do we begin?
>> Uh I think we begin with it did the supercharger belt wasn't on the supercharger.
>> No, it wasn't.
>> And it had a new belt.
>> Yes.
>> So, uh he said he said his clutch is really heavy, and he thinks it was feeling like he it was going to fail on him and on top of that the supercharger belt broken so he says can you have a look at it. I've had a bit of constant grief with it ever since it sort of been supercharged and I've not really been truly happy with it so he listed a few things he wasn't happy with. So can you have a look at it and see what you can do so I was just down well let's start with the basics let's put the supercharger belt on it then we can drive it and put it on the dyno and see what power it's making so we can put all that to bed so we did exactly that.
>> And with that supercharger it made 370 brake up 369.
>> Yeah he was told basically it made 470 originally then it went to another tuner and he was told 404 did he say I think he said 404 more realistic a bit more realistic and anyway had engine issues then the engine was obviously was damaged or broken to be on the failed whatever how you want to word it and then he had an engine built by someone now this engine was very expensive very expensive but it's been very difficult trying to track down what's actually happened here because the customer doesn't really understand what he had done he just tells us it's a 2.2 and it's got pistons and rods in it now I when I we looked at the car on the ramp it's definitely had a brand new Honda K20A2 put in it yeah it's got lot of VIN tags on it which they don't which you don't get on a normal road car so it's an engine that's came from Honda and it looks brand new as well you know when you look at it looks brand new and the head looks brand new cuz you can sort of see the bottom of the head and the surfacing on it it all looks mint so I think it's had a brand new K20A2 from Honda in it and then they fitted pistons and rods they've definitely fitted valve springs and retainers we're not entirely sure what cams are in there because obviously he doesn't have this information so we can only go with what we've seen and had a look at um so we've done our absolute best with obviously what information we've got without obviously stripping an engine down that runs and and it's not got a problem.
>> Found a few issues, didn't we?
>> We did find a few issues. So, uh it got a 3-in system, but with 2 and 1/2-in back boxes on or twin 2 and 1/2-in pipes.
>> Actually reduced that to 2 and 1/4 at some point.
>> It did, yeah. So, we said, well, ideally we would want to sort of get do away with that being supercharged and go up to the uh Pipercross 3-in stuff. So, that's exactly what we've done. Uh we've done a bit of a clean up and under seal, so some stuff maintenance. Um we found that they'd fitted because obviously it's an A2 engine, they'd fitted a Z4 side casing, so the timing chain casing.
And to that there was a hole for the cuz the mount on the Z4 goes back and has a single hole at the back. On the A2, that hole is only uh 6-mil thread for the casing cover. So, obviously whilst it looked like it were there, we put the borescope and it looked like there was a thread in there. You can't really tell the size on a borescope. It just looked like it was there. Couldn't really understand why it wouldn't screw in. So, we took the side casing off so we could get a better look and a better understanding and then obviously realized that it's obviously a Z4 casing on an A2 engine. So, therefore, obviously that provision for that back bolt isn't there. Um >> Cuz it was leaking oil.
>> Cuz it was leaking oil. That's what sort of put us to that, wasn't it? Uh so, we fitted an A2 side casing and then basically cut that rear lug off of the engine mount. So, it's still held on by three as it would be in an A2 instance, but obviously on the uh Z4 it has an extra one going backwards. Uh obviously because we haven't got provisions for it in the block there, that it's pointless it being there. So, we've done it so it's all sealed up and sorted that out.
The dump valve was the original one with the kit, which is the 25-mil one, which is no good. So, we changed that to >> It wasn't even very good on an RS Turbo back then.
>> No, it wasn't, yeah. So, we swapped that to a >> You know what I'm talking about. It looks like a Bailey dump valve.
>> Yeah, it does look like a Bailey dump valve. Well, for old people they'll know what a Bailey dump valve looks like.
>> And we've Yeah, so Angelica knows what we're talking about.
>> Yeah, yeah.
>> So, but it the we've swapped that out to a Turbosmart Race Port.
>> Yeah, so the 50-mil Race Port.
>> And it welds onto your boost pipe.
>> Yeah, yeah. So, we've done that. That's all sorted.
Uh we did engine oil, gearbox oil. We changed the clutch. Obviously, it had a it did have a twin plate in there, but extremely heavy and it the customer just wasn't happy with it. So, we've gone back to a single plate and flywheel.
Drives lovely now. It just drives nice now and sorted that out. So, we did gearbox oil as well at the same time.
Clutch bypass line changed the fluid.
Did change the brake fluid on it cuz we noticed that was a little bit sort of bit old and tired. Uh, just generally gone over it and just checked stuff out. I mean, like I say, no real dramas, but just finishing touches on it.
>> It sort of leaves here as we would have specked this car had someone been asking us to build it.
>> Yeah, the customer said he thinks it's a 2.2. I don't know whether that's the case or not. I mean, obviously >> react like that.
>> No, it didn't. And this is what we were saying. This is made the sort of power that you would expect from a standard Z4 with this kit on it. Um, now it has got valve springs and retainers. I think it has got piston rods in it, but also again, if someone specked low comp pistons and rods in it, >> They'd be making less power on the same day.
>> it could be a 2.2, which if it had high comp pistons in there or normal comp pistons in there would have seen us make more power like the say the 450 460 mark, which would be halfway between a K20 and a K24 with this kit on. But, because it's low comp and we're assuming it's low comp at this point, then that has then obviously cost us a little bit of power. But, if you were boosted, you'd be able to run a load of power down.
>> Yeah, so if it was turbo, we could turn the boost up.
>> I Sorry, when I say boosted, what I meant to say, sorry, is turbo.
>> So, if it were turbo, we could turn the boost up to compensate for the lower comp.
>> Yeah, exactly.
>> But, we can't do that because it's mechanical It's mechanical boost. So, the only way of doing that would be to change the supercharger pulley, which I believe has already actually happened.
>> Yeah, it's a it's already got a It's had that one as the original one and it's already had a slightly smaller one put on it.
But, the trouble with the supercharger is they're only designed to work within a certain efficiency range. If you over spin it, then it doesn't it doesn't it isn't efficient anymore, if you understand what I mean. So, this kit is maxed out basically for what he wants.
If he wants more boost and he wants more power, then he he may have to look at upgrading or hybrid hybrid-ing the supercharger, for example, to get more power.
>> Yeah.
>> Um but I'm really happy with that. The end result is it it came in on 300 and uh 70 brake horsepower.
>> 369.
>> Or 369, if you want to split hairs, and it's leaving us on 420.
>> 420. Happy days.
>> So, I'm happy with that.
>> Sounds incredible. That pipe system sounds incredible. Nice flames coming out the back of it as well. I'm very happy with that. But all round, eventually, he's going to get his car back cuz it's been off the road a little while.
>> Yeah, yeah. So, like I say, I hope that he yeah, he gets it back and thoroughly enjoys it now.
>> Mhm.
>> I I can't think he'd be disappointed with the power. I think if he we we make power everywhere, basically. So, he should instantly feel a difference. And obviously, once he gets to open it right out, it should should feel feel phenomenal.
>> Everyone wants a boosted K20.
>> Yeah, yeah.
>> It's the best.
>> It is. It's awesome.
