[00:00:54]And today, instead of talking about high speeds and draggy times, all that kind of stuff that I'm normally talking about or how to make your bike fast.

[00:01:09]Today I'm going to start a segment of what I I'm going to call how to make your ebike a lot more efficient.

[00:01:21]Now, I'm going to make a claim as I always do. [laughter] If you've been around, you know I'm making claims all the time and normally I try to back them up.

[00:01:33]So today, one of my claims is another claim is I believe I have one of the most efficient electric motorcycles in the world.

[00:01:52]So, while it might not be the fastest, it might not be the prettiest, and it might not be the best, it's definitely one of the most efficient.

[00:02:05]Now, I don't even know if people are going to be able to understand that or wrap their heads around that. So, first of all, a lot of people need to understand what being efficient is. I'm sure I don't have to define that word efficient, but when it comes to ebikes, and let me say this.

[00:02:29]While everybody's goal, it seems if you look at Facebook, is to have the fastest and the most powerful bike.

[00:02:42]They forgotten the reason as to why we ride ebikes in the first place.

[00:02:50]you know, uh, or use electric vehicles as a whole, and that includes cars.

[00:02:58]Electric vehicles are supposedly supposed to be a lot more efficient than gas vehicles.

[00:03:08]And the reason why they say that is because of uh the cost ratio in comparison to mileage, you know, cost per mile and uh I guess it even breaks down to the vehicle cost per mile, although that may be disputed cuz there's some very expensive electric vehicles. But supposedly uh you're supposed to save money over time from not having to buy gas. And we all know gas is high as a kite right now. But anyway, I'm not here to talk about all that and bore you to death off the muscle. So, let's talk about the major factors that make your bike efficient. And I'mma tell you, a lot of you stunt guys and strictly racing guys aren't going to like some of this stuff because honestly speaking, uh, efficiency and speed do not go hand in hand.

[00:04:19]Nor does efficiency and stunting for the most part.

[00:04:24]Do you know that uh and this goes for a lot of guys that ride mid drives?

[00:04:33]And before I even get into that, do know that mid drives themselves are nowhere near as efficient as a direct drive hub motor.

[00:04:47]And uh make sure uh I emphasize direct drive because they are also geared hub motors as you know geared hub motors are not as efficient. I put them probably similar to our mid drives.

[00:05:06]Now a mid drive could be efficient depending on your gearing. All right.

[00:05:14]But most guys don't have their mid drive bikes geared for efficiency, meaning uh being able to get long range and decent high speeds while not using a whole lot of power.

[00:05:34]Let's let this gas guzzler go down the street. See, that's why I don't like petrol. That's why I love my ebike because it makes no damn noise.

[00:05:46]But anyway, back to what I was saying.

[00:05:50]Uh, you want to get most people want to get long range with moderately high speeds.

[00:06:00]And the uh what most people should be wanting to do with their bikes is uh use them for transportation, especially now.

[00:06:10]But what I was getting ready to say as far as uh let's talk about stunt riders.

[00:06:16]All right. Most of you wheelie popping guys that ride mid drives, you don't have your gearing set up for efficiency.

[00:06:29]If you didn't know, the larger the sprocket is on the front, the smaller the sprocket is on the rear or the gear, the faster that bike can go, but the more power it takes to get it going.

[00:06:49]But once you get it going, when you get up to speed, it uses less power. Now, most stunt bike guys have their gearing uh set up to pop wheelies. So, they'll have a large sprocket on the front. I mean, uh my bad. I'm sorry. Get this right. They have a small sprocket on the front and a large gear on the back with a mid drive. That gives you a lot of torque.

[00:07:23]All right.

[00:07:25]Once again, small sprocket on the on your motor and big sprocket on your wheel. That would make it so it's it can easily pop wheelies. You don't even need a lot of power if you have your bike geared properly. And most of those guys, they have their bike geared to pop wheelies easy. And that's great. That's great for your wheelies.

[00:07:50]But when you want to do group rides because uh these bikes uh you don't have a transmission, you're not able to change gears. You're stuck in that gear.

[00:08:04]when you trying to do long distance group rides with everybody else and uh travel at high speeds, you going to wish you were geared for efficiency and higher top speeds.

[00:08:22]All right. Now, obviously, if you're geared to do wheelies, it's going to take you a whole lot more power. you're going to be expending a whole lot more of your batteries capacity to keep up with everybody else.

[00:08:39]And that's even if they're just doing 3540 m an hour.

[00:08:45]Don't believe me? Uh check your RPMs, you know, set for high torque and then set it up for, you know, top speed and see. It's a big difference.

[00:09:02]Now, not just gearing will uh create that. The same thing when it comes to wheel size.

[00:09:12]The bigger the wheel, the more the the easier it's going to be to reach a high top speed, but the slower it's going to be as far as acceleration.

[00:09:26]Now, you can compensate with power obviously, but uh yeah, it takes a whole lot more to get a big wheel spinning. I said that in the last video. So, a lot of you guys that have them little tiny bikes with them little 12in motors or 10-in motors, some of them even smaller than that.

[00:09:50]uh you need a much higher RPM to do a high top speed. Now, while that thing might be fast as hell from 0 to 60 or, you know, even doing an eighth of a mile, you be may be kicking ass, you race guys.

[00:10:09]But as far as uh long range and efficiency, man, them little tires ain't efficient at all. You It's just It's just like gearing. All right. And I normally say uh my my term for that is like being geared long and short gearing. long gearing for high top speed and short gearing for acceleration. So like I said, wheel size and that goes hand in hand. All right. So bam, that the next thing is voltage.

[00:10:50]Obviously, voltage plays a huge role when it comes to uh power in your battery.

[00:10:59]The higher the voltage, the less amps your controller is going to draw.

[00:11:05]And the higher the voltage, the higher the top speed while running less amps.

[00:11:12]Okay?

[00:11:14]So, just going up in voltage is going to cause your bike to be efficient, more efficient.

[00:11:21]So that happens to be the only uh part that I'm lacking as far as efficiency is high voltage. However, I've compensated for that with added fuel weakening my uh I don't know if I mentioned this before, some of you know, but like uh on my ASI, I'm cheating a little bit because my field weakening has been unlocked. Uh, normal field weakening on the ASI is 25%.

[00:11:55]Uh, because, you know, I got some extra keys the back door, mine is 50%.

[00:12:01]Uh, not only that, I can, you know, my phase amps go up a little bit higher than normal. So, uh, yeah, while it's 72 volts, I'm getting a lot of benefits of a high voltage system. So, that's one of the reasons why I say my bike is a lot more efficient than the average bikes.

[00:12:20]Not only that, most people uh the way they have their field weakening set up, they don't their field weakening doesn't work. Uh depending on how much power they're pulling or running at the time, my field weakening works even uh if I'm not drawing a lot of power, you know, based on RPM. So, I can be on the highway and uh not pulling a lot of amps, but my field weekend weakening is working. And uh reason why you can tell I can cruise along and I'm about to prove that 55 60 m an hour as long as you know it's not a lot of crosswind and other factors that's hurting me or you know I'm going uphill uh on level ground. I can cruise at 55 60 miles an hour with about 50 amps. 50 amps uh anywhere from 3500 to 5500 watts can cruise 55 miles an hour. Now that means a lot for long distance traveling or like you're doing group rides.

[00:13:30]So, because I have uh high current and uh large power, doesn't mean I don't need it. Uh all that does on this bike is help me with acceleration.

[00:13:44]I could probably almost reach almost the same top speed even in eco.

[00:13:53]Now, my eco is uh I have gears obviously one, two, and three. So, my eco is one.

[00:14:00]I have one set up to 10,000 watts. It's not supposed to go over 10,000 watts.

[00:14:06]Sometimes it does, though. But, I mean, basically, it's set to 10,000.

[00:14:10]Two is set to 20,000. Three is set to 30,000.

[00:14:15]Now, roughly one is [snorts] maximum amp draw 100 to 150 amps.

[00:14:24]So, that's all one is. Now, reason why I'm saying that I'm going to take a ride and I'm going to stay in one. Now, in one my I don't have a lot of acceleration. I don't have a lot of takeoff power with that 100 150 amps, especially on this big heavy bike, but uh it will get up to a decent top speed.

[00:14:50]So, we going to do a test and uh I'm going to show you. But anyway, we talked about gearing, wheel size, voltage, obviously weight plays a factor in efficiency. Uh but more importantly, a lot of things we're going to talk about later on in other episodes is the uh electrical part of how to be more efficient by eliminating bottlenecks.

[00:15:18]uh running the proper gauge wires, uh using the right size connectors or no connectors at all, uh stuff like that that create bottlenecks and limit your current flow and make your stuff less efficient. Not only that, uh when it comes to your motors, obviously most people know that your turn ratio uh in a hub motor, if you have a a turn You know, you can get a motor that's two-turn. That's a high-speed motor. All right. Now, if you got two-turn motor, it's the same thing like with gearing.

[00:16:00]It's not going to have a lot of acceleration.

[00:16:04]All right? But it's top end is going to be awesome. Now, you can compensate for any of that with more power. Don't get me wrong. you run 150 150,000 watts, even though you got a two-turn, it's still going to have some great acceleration, but just that turn ratio is going to require a lot more power to accelerate, a lot less power to maintain high speed. So, if you go up in turns, the average motors are like 3.5 turn, 3 and 1/2 turn. And uh if you want a motor that's torquy, you can get them at five turn.

[00:16:45]So that's one thing I didn't discuss when I was talking about gearing and wheel sizes. So you know that plays the same factor like with larger tires, larger gears and the way they're set up.

[00:16:59]All right. So, uh you can have a little tiny bike with small tires, which is not really efficient, but maybe if you get it like a twoturn, it'll balance itself out. Okay? So, there are ways to compensate when you're stuck because you have smaller wheels.

[00:17:22]you know, get a lower turn motor or if you uh have a big wheel, you know, do the opposite.

[00:17:34]But uh anyway, we're going to take a ride. I'm going to try to demonstrate how efficient this damn thing is. And I got a fresh battery. It's on 84 volts.

[00:17:45]We going to see what it is when I finish uh depending on the mileage as well.

[00:17:52]And we are back. Uh I'm going to do this little efficiency test uh with my bike. And uh so this ain't about going fast or times or anything like that. This is about showing uh how fast I can go or speeds I can maintain while not using a lot of power.

[00:18:19]Now I'm in one which is my eco and one on this bike has no power at all. It well put it like this and you can compare it to your ebike. One in this bike is like a regular uh stock ebike that you buy.

[00:18:39]um you know something running a Sabaton 72150 or 72200 any controller that's running and 150 amps. So if you don't think you can ride on a highway with a Sabaton 72150, uh you should be able to if your bike is set up for efficiency. Now check this out. Normally, I can't do this if I'm in two or three.

[00:19:10]I can I can pretty much give my turn twist my throttle all the way around and it's not going to yoke me or flip me off because it's set low.

[00:19:22]I can I have to crank this throttle all the way around to get that 150 amps.

[00:19:28]So, it's super slow like this. I and normally I never ride like this cuz I like to be able to get out the way, but we going to ride in eco and actually it will build up speed over time. It's just not instant, but it will get up there in speed. And that's what I'm going to show you.

[00:19:56]Even on one, we should still be able to get up to highway speed.

[00:20:03]Hopefully won't nobody get behind me and uh be blowing the horn at me.

[00:25:02]I had to put it in too so I could get on the highway, man. [laughter] I needed I needed some power to to get up off of that damn uh side lane. Uh reason why I pulled over, man, I heard something. I thought I dropped something out my pocket or something or something fell off the bike. I don't know. Uh, I think that was my vape.

[00:25:30]Uh, hit hit my tank in my pocket. I I don't know.

[00:25:38]I might have lost my little uh thing that I got stuck up under my hat. Uh, my little extra light I had under my hat. I heard something fall.

[00:25:51]But, uh, yeah, as you can see, 13,000 watts to get me up in the 70s, in the 70 mph range.

[00:26:03]And once I once I get up to that speed, it takes some power to get up there. But once I get up to that speed, I could maintain it. I noticed I could even uh maintain 70 m an hour with 100 amps once I got up to 70 m an hour.

[00:26:31]Man, I'm not used to doing this right here.

[00:26:38]Anyway, let's see. Uh or I'll wait till we stop.

[00:26:49]Let's see how how much battery we used on that uh that little 10mi roundabout.

[00:26:59]That was like a 10 mile roundabout on the highway and including this little back road right now. I'm back in a one. I mean, eco.

[00:27:22]And uh yeah, man. Once this thing gets up to speed, it it don't take much to keep it there.

[00:27:32]Let's see. Let's get up there a little bit.

[00:27:37]Once I'm up there, 50 amps to stay at 50.

[00:27:54]All right. Now, I doubt if y'all can hear me right now, so I'll wait till we slow down a little bit more.

[00:28:09]Let's turn on the other thing that makes my bike more efficient, engine brake.

[00:28:20]engine braking and my E bra.

[00:28:35]That was one major point I left off and forgot to talk about as one of the major things far as efficiency. So I said tire size and gearing, voltage, weight of your bike obviously and uh regenerative braking.

[00:29:07]All the major factors in being efficient and voltage.

[00:29:14]voltage.

[00:29:16]Those are the major factors.

[00:29:20]Now, like I said, most of the electrical stuff is the really good stuff we'll talk about later as far as uh having your t your controller tuned for efficiency and uh field weakening and all that.

[00:29:39]But uh I see uh a max of 17,000 watts. This thing get up to 17,000 watts with on eco.

[00:29:58]No, I think that was No, I'm lying.

[00:30:02]Only reason they went up to 17 is because uh when I put it in two to get on the high to get out of that uh that side lane on the highway, but uh I I was paying attention in one. It wouldn't go past 13 kilowatt.

[00:30:25]It would not go past 13 kilowatt in one.

[00:30:29]So yeah, I think it's like that. So one would be 13, two would probably be like 23, and three is 33.

[00:30:40]But here's the last thing I want to show you that I was talking about uh as far as what makes this bike super efficiency, super efficient. Off throttle regen.

[00:30:53]Off throttle regen is exactly that. Now listen and look. While I'm on the throttle, I'm using power. See the positive numbers over here? That's the power. When I get off the throttle, you see it goes negative.

[00:31:12]That means I'm charging.

[00:31:14]Back on the throttle, positive.

[00:31:18]Off the throttle, negative. Now, think about that.

[00:31:24]when you're riding around, even leisurely on a group ride like this right here. Even even just riding anywhere, whenever you're, you know, whenever you're moving using power that you're using power, you know, whenever I get off the throttle, I'm charging.

[00:31:48]I'm charging. Now, am I putting back the exact same amount of power that I used?

[00:31:55]No.

[00:31:58]No. That would be like that that would be super that that would mean uh what is it called? people look for uh and and uh been trying to invent invent uh you know something that takes no power and creates its own power. But no, but where it could be beneficial if you rode up in the mountains, you rode this thing up in the mountains or a luxur coming back is all downhill. Guess what?

[00:32:36]You probably will put back more than you use going up or about the same.

[00:32:47]See those watts?

[00:32:49]2,000 watts right now.

[00:32:53]25. You know, you see it.

[00:32:57]I get off the throttle.

[00:33:01]it goes to charging. Now, a lot of people say, "I don't like using that.

[00:33:08]I don't like using off throttle." Why not?

[00:33:12]It's all in about having it set right now. You can have you can set off throttle where it's just as strong as your E brake. When that means when I get off this throttle, it' be like I applied the brake. But you don't want it that strong. That that would be dangerous.

[00:33:32]So, I barely have my off throttle set to anything. I think it's like 5%.

[00:33:40]My off throttle is 5%. So, when I get off my throttle, I can barely tell. I feel a little bit of drag, but it's not that much.

[00:33:52]>> [snorts] >> So just enough to do some charging but not too much where it's noticeable on your you know a lot of people want you you want to have good coasting ability.

[00:34:04]So this bike still coast pretty good even with it on. Now I'm using my E bra right there. Uh and if you don't know see see that right there that is my variable E bra. The further, the more I push that, the more E bra being applied.

[00:34:22]Watch this.

[00:34:25]See how it goes way up like that? When I push it fully now, uh when I get down to like under two 2 m per hour, it doesn't work anymore. So, uh, you use your manual brakes at that point. But, uh, this E brake, man, now, like I said, just think about that.

[00:34:49]You're riding around, you're burning power. When you're on the throttle, you get off the throttle, you're putting power back. At the same time, when you're braking, you're putting a whole lot of power back. When you're braking, you see this thing stop and uh slow down and I ain't touching no mechanical brakes.

[00:35:11]I ain't push it all the way. Now, I could push it. I could have had that set to where it will actually slide the wheel, but I don't want that either. So, I just barely pushing it.

[00:35:26]Watch.

[00:35:29]You see the difference between off throttle and e bra. Okay, off throttle.

[00:35:33]Look at the Look at the watch.

[00:35:50]So, it's all how you got it set.

[00:35:54]But I could turn that I could turn that way up way as though I use that and it, you know, it slide the back wheel. So that's dangerous and it's putting back way too many amps. So, uh, you know, sometimes if I'm going really fast, uh, and using maximum e bra, man, I'm putting back like a 100 amps. It's charging at like 100, maybe even more than that if I'm going really, really fast. But, uh, yeah, close to 100 amps.

[00:37:29]Crisscrossing wires. Oh, what I was going to show you. Uh, okay. We did almost 12 miles. Almost 12 miles.

[00:37:41]And I would say about nine nine of those 12 miles was on the highway and moderately high speeds. For ebike, it would be. So, we're at 82 volts.

[00:38:01]82 volts. When we started, we were at 84 volts.

[00:38:05]So, 12 miles, nine of that on the highway.

[00:38:11][snorts] Uh, and yeah, we used two volts. Now, honestly, that's a lot for this bike to be honest, but it was on the highway.

[00:38:19]Now, if I was just riding around in the street, you know, using that E bra and all of that, uh, off throttle region, I probably would have only I probably would have only used like one volt for 12 miles.

[00:38:35]But, uh, yeah, this bike is really good range with that 100 amp hour. Uh, honestly, so good that I've never been able to ride it out. Not even close.

[00:38:48]Uh, the lowest I got this down to was about 60%.

[00:38:55]60% battery and I had gone like 75 miles.

[00:39:02]So, that's as far as I could ride by myself, man. I got tired.

[00:39:07]So, that was just uh riding all around.

[00:39:11]That wasn't, you know, that was a little mix of highway, city, and everything.
