When mounting a dump body on a truck, proper clearance between the cab and dump body must be verified and adjusted as needed; the body should be tested at various angles to ensure it clears all obstacles, and mounting brackets must be securely bolted and welded to the frame for permanent attachment.

Dump Truck Mounts - International 4700 Dump TruckAdded:
We're at the dump body in the shop. We had this thing moved back. We originally had 4 in in between the back of the cab and the front of the dump body, which is an ideal amount of clearance. So, I thought we're going to go with But somebody in the comments mentioned, "Hey, are you going to move that thing back?" Yeah, I didn't really think to check it yet. I was definitely going to check it before we finished mounting and he was right. We needed to move it back.
Now, what I don't know is how much we need to move it back. We moved it back about 3 and 1/2ish in maybe four from the original four.
So, we got quite a bit more room here, more than what I would like in between the back of the cab and the front of the body. So, what we're going to do before we make everything permanent, we're going to mount the front bolt on each side of the front here. Remove those hoses that are bad anyways from the hydraulic pump. And we're going to use the crane to lift this bad boy up to see what angle it makes and make sure it clears in this position.
If it has a whole lot of extra clearance, we might take those bolts out and shimmy it forward just a little bit or as much as we can because I don't like this. Hope this thing cuts.
We're running real low on annual cutters.
made it through one wall. We got to get that slug out of there.
Here we go.
I think we made it through both sides, but we may have pushed it into brake lines or something.
Have to get under there and look.
Oh boy. All right, we ran right into crossmember.
She made it through. The slug came out up there, but the bolt head is not going to fit.
Uh, we're going to have to move the hole somewhere.
Didn't plan for that. We can't use that hole. But what a fella's tempted to do is just throw a piece of scrap with that bolt in there and just put a little weld on there.
view piece here of scrap bolted in connected to that. A little bit of weld cuz depending on where we move this, this may or may not work or we might have to cut this completely off, but we don't know yet.
We are back on the dump truck. We tried to drill a hole in the bracket that was left on there to fix this so we can do a test tip or dump. And it's right in the way of a crossmember.
But I wonder if we can drill that top crossmember hole.
We got to take this third bolt out. So, if we can locate this bolt hole and drill through this bracket, we can at least get one in there.
That weld's cracked up there. We need to we need to redo this anyways. But right now, what we're trying to do is a quick test so we can tip this thing up to see if we're back far enough one. And if we have any extra room, can we slide it forward? So try not to overdo it and spend too much time on it cuz it might need to completely change. I think ultimately we're going to cut this bracket off and put us a new one on. So let's see if we can locate that hole.
Right about there.
Is it going to hold there? Highly doubt it. Nope. Fell's got to do something different here. We got this plate.
Got to get all the slag crap off of it. And maybe we can clamp and mag.
Okay, we did it. And it's off vertically.
That's not cool.
Maybe we can ream it to line up.
Don't understand that. But basically what we did here, if you didn't understand, we clamped this plate to the side with a clamp, F clamp, and we're able to mag to this piece.
Um, and drill the hole.
For some reason, it's not lining up.
Okay. Awesome.
That ain't going nowhere. Let me tell you something. You guys missed out on some serious fun on the other side. The other side's done. Can't really see over there because, well, I lost my light and it's really dark. But this side somewhere up there is bolted. The other side's bolted the same way. Nailed the height off left to right. So, ended up reaming it right after I sprayed a whole bunch of cutting fluid in my face because the nozzle likes to spray out the side. So, switch to the real safety glasses. Now, we're in some serious fun.
These hoses. We got to get these hoses off of this pump. This hose here is about twisted in two and they're definitely no good anymore. And they have all the braiding sticking out of the hoses. So, that's a lot of fun. Got our first wrench on there. See if we can't get this uncoupled from the pump.
It's not looking positive.
No oil.
Surprise.
Since we're here, let's do this one, too.
There's some That could have went way worse. I didn't expect it to fall like that.
She wants to fall and land on me.
All right, that went better than expected.
Little gassy, but it didn't fall and land on me. That was thing's heavy.
Well, that was fun, wasn't it? It didn't fall and land on me, though. It tried. I didn't plan on that to happen. Luckily, it swung away from us and didn't hit us.
The only thing we got was an oiled up sleeve.
Believe it or not, that's so far the best part of the day that's happened.
Not smashed, didn't dump oil all over. The pump's more or less loose. So now we can work on it on the bench. Winnie, undo our lasso here.
You go way back into the archives, you're going to know that we put this C channel on here so we can pull the bulkhead out. The bulkhead when we bought this was all caved into the cab and we moved it back significantly using this pole beam on the rear of the bed.
Well, that's got to go. Won't let us put the tailgate up obviously and we got to cut that off and get this closed up cuz it's really kind of in the way and it's going to make it easier to test the dump angle of this thing. So, we're going to got all the stuff out. We're going to zip those off of there and get this tailgate closed up.
Went up easier than I But this is going to go.
There we go.
Oh, now tailgate raised with the pins in the top. And if you didn't know, with it unlatched, this tilts out so you can tailgate stone.
Luckily, it works right. So, it's heavy, too. That's a bonus.
Everything works right on the tailgate.
We're going to upgrade the pins up top, uh, because, well, they're not quite right. Not overly easy to remove, but that works. If you want a tailgate stone, you adjust your chain links on both sides to be equal.
that controls how far it opens. You'd be dumping pretty big stone for that. But that lets you spread stone with the tailgate. So hopefully we can be doing a whole lot of that once this is all done.
There's what the bumper looks like under there. It's the first view. And the winch is still on there cuz we're jockeying the bed around. Let's get that off of there. Get this outside and then try to tilt it up. Let's get our latch thrown before we forget.
That locks that tailgate in.
Heat.
Heat.
all lifted up. We got the crane still fired up cuz we don't want to shut it down till we get her all lowered back down. Looks like we're pretty much stuck with this position. We can't scooter anymore forward. And she tails about 50Β°.
Pay no attention to that. Someone needs to get some pig oil down there.
The first time I ever seen this thing tilted up the underside of it.
But this is what we're looking at back here.
Just clears that position.
I don't know if it focuses or not, but we're not hitting the bumper plate.
We're just clearing.
Everything's good.
Oh yeah, beautiful.
And my wife says I don't need a crane. I mean that this thing is awesome. I don't think I could ever live without one again because of everything that you can do and you can do more safely and controlled. Like we could have lifted that up without a crane, but it would have been like a loader or a winch or something that just beautiful.
All right, we got to get this back in the shop. I think we're good to go with that position there. We definitely can't move it forward at all. So, we need to get her mounted down to the truck frame.
We're going to zip this thing off of here. Thanks to the fire truck, we have a large angle bracket that we cut up from one of the pieces on it. And we're going to try to get it on there.
bracket off.
Little clean up on that bad boy. A couple holes and we'll be ready to rock and roll.
Trying to get after a little bit too hard on the old import drill press.
Looks like she's going to work. We just need two more holes. So, let's go ahead and plug two more holes in this bad boy.
There's our bracket, the three holes, and it's a fancy greenish color. Got the top taped off, dusted it all off, and painted the backside that's going to be against the frame. Uh, we wanted something so it wasn't bare metal against the frame rail. So, let that dry, grease it up, slap it on there, transfer the two holes front and back, drill those two holes, and weld her on.
Well, it's a beautiful sunny day, but it's only like 40ome degrees and I'm still on the struggle bus, but we're going to try to make something happen here. We got everything moved around so we can get the dump truck in a spot where we can work on it. We're even thinking about maybe welding that first bracket in outside and then pulling it in. But she is just she is just leaking all over the place.
See all that? We got a whole bunch of goodness up here.
Yeah, we got like a couple inches of water in here. Somebody left our rigging out here in the rain. That's really sweet.
Yeah, we need to get this out of there before we put it in the garage. So, we're going to back it down there. We already came up the hill. We didn't pop the tailgate. So, we're going to pop the tailgate. See if we can get some of this excess water out of here. Can't dump it yet because well, we're not there.
It's a lot of goodness there.
the leaves.
Definitely don't want that all dripping on us. We're trying to work underneath on this thing aside. We still need to make the bracket for the front. Got the bracket made for the other side, but it's not bolted or welded on. It is somewhere on the floor.
Right there it is in the cart. That's the bracket for the driver's side. Need to get that bolted on, welded in, and then get this one all made, welded in, and then somehow address the back.
You can't see it, but we got those flat plates in there. I got to figure something out on back here is cleaning a spot off on the frame rail there of the dump body so we can clip the ground off right before some of that nasty water dripped right in the old eyeball hole. That was fun. That's ready. We got the welder outside. We're going to snake the ground clamp in there. Run our electrode under the door.
We're ready to do the welding. This is exactly the same process as the other side, except we have two pre-existing bolts to put in the new bracket instead of one.
So, we weren't able to get directly behind the holes with the transfer punch on the inside because our brake line support bracket is pretty much right there uh on the inside. So, we got our little chalk spray tool. This thing's really cool. Um, we had to kind of get in there at an angle and push her like that. And it shot some marks through.
Supposed to make crosshair marks, but it kind of at an angle, a little dirty. Uh, made more of a blob. But if these blobs line up with that hole, that's what we need. So, we're going to drill these.
We're going to drill these. Get our lock back up there. This thing is really cool, though. This is like the second time I use it, and I I really like it.
It's supposed to leave a little crosshair thing.
Uh, yeah, you get the idea. Let's get these drilled. Get it back up there. I'm not going to tell you. We drilled the holes in the wrong spot, welded them shut, and then had to redrill them again.
So, our fancy tool, wasn't the tool's fault, it's my fault. Didn't put the mark in the center of the hole. So, we're about a half a hole off uh by the time I got through all the plating and whatnot. So, yeah, we did not weld those shut and redrill those. Yeah, plate bolted on here. Ignore the run marks from the new spray paint from the backside that we had to do. Those aren't there. And we got the bolts tightened up. Clamped it up top so it's nice and flush on the bottom of the bracket. That's on the dump body. We got the other side welded. The generator is running outside. I need to go adjust the Yeah, sounds like she's missing a little on idle.
Dial her up to 10. Running at 90. About 8 and 125 is what we were running for the bigger filler.
Let's go after it.
So, we're going to route her in with 330 seconds. I'm going to start here and try to wrap around both ways. That hole poses a little bit of a problem. It's right there. And then we're going to switch to the 8 inch rod and give us a bigger cover filler pass on the outside.
Kind of make a nice bigger fillet up.
She's a champ. Next up are the back bracket, the flat brackets back here in the back.
We're going to bolt those to the frame and then weld them back to themselves.
Uh yeah, you'll see the bracket that we sliced off. The frame on my truck is wider than the truck that this came off of. It went down to I believe a single frame in the back where mine is double the whole way. We're going to take this piece we cut off, put it next to the frame, and you can see it's about the thickness of the plate. So, we should be able to weld her back on there like so. offset a little bit because our helper is in the way, but no big deal. How you going to drill those holes, Andy?
I don't know.
And you got two holes in there for this plate somehow.
Now, probably would be easier if you took the tires off here.
Not going to work.
Tires are in the way.
Well, you should take the tires off. No.
We got the portable air compressor.
We're gonna fire that up. Had this out earlier. This thing gets more pressure.
It's good to run it anyways.
Got a squirrel on the belt out there.
Yeah.
Why it's doing that? That bra is cold.
Good news. All those lug nuts are off.
took a little while because you had to wait on the air compressor outside to fire up and build pressure since we were at it. We did the other side too off camera. We lost you somewhere on those lug nuts. They all came off. Um had to wait for the pressure to build up and hit her hard. One or two of them we had to do that two times. Now let's just see how hard it's going to be to get these off.
It's kind of surprising me.
cords and cables.
All right, that's way better than I imagined.
There sucker out of the way.
Oh man, those brakes are crusty.
Those came off there easier than what I thought.
Surprise a little bit.
Don't look there. Really? What's worse than a dump truck that doesn't go?
A dump truck that doesn't stop.
Something's Forget about that for now. We didn't see that right now. We got to drill these holes.
Yeah. One hole.
piece here. Got some paint on her. And I'm not going to tell you that I heated up the opposite side or the outside to help get that to dry faster.
Will it work? I don't know.
Good enough for me. It was either do that or not do it at all. We're going to slobber our grease on here now. And up here, something's going to happen. It'll either stick or it won't.
Good news is there'll be grease behind there.
I don't know if you can tell by that grunt or not, but we're trying to get these tires back on there so we can There's my lugg There's my chair.
All right, you got you guys want to hand me a lug nut?
Be cool if you did.
Where the fudge?
Oh, I'm not going to lie to you folks. That was pretty hard for me.
My pry bar kept turning sideways and dumping it. So, I lift it up further. I was going to get a 2x4 in there, but manh.
Heat. Heat. N.
Heat. Heat.
Hey, We got the big green dump truck out front. Much to the wife's dismay, she doesn't like the green body. I I don't really see it. Um yeah, it it needs to be black. But the dump body is permanently affixed to the frame. We got all four mounting plates bolted and welded to the frame. Everything looks good there. Brakes on the other hand.
Just kind of close your eyes and hope it stops cuz we're going to have to do something there. Next step is mounting bracket for the pump hoses and a control lever in the cab. And then this bad boy should be able to dump on its own accord. That's the plan.
Anyways, right now this thing is never coming off of this truck and it will be on there for the entire time that I own it. That's for sure. Cuz it took forever to get on there. It was a big challenge.
It's on there and it ain't coming off.
Thanks for watching everybody.
