Hello, welcome back to the shop. I'm continuing with our block for the power hacksaw.
We're going to machine the edges now.
And what I've done cuz we haven't got much height underneath the tool slide here.
We're right on the extreme now. I couldn't get any more height out of this at all. I've had changed the tool over.
I actually just put a butt welded thread cutting tool in there. And what we're going to do is we're going to machine probably about quarter of an inch off this side. Turn it over and machine about quarter an inch off the other side. So we'll have four machined faces then. And what I've done to try and give me more purchase of the block so it doesn't come out the vice cuz it's a bit well it's not brilliant but I suppose it's okay. But what I've done is I've got a couple of big blocks here and I've clamped the piece of plate between the two blocks.
Hopefully that'll give a little bit more purchase.
It'll transfer some of the the thrust load from the jaws of the vice further up the block, which is what we want. Try and hold it in place.
You always got to be careful with things like this. You don't want this don't want work coming out of the vice. You don't want that.
That would be quite nasty. But anyway, let's see how we go with this.
We'll just have to take it easy. Like I say, we'll take quarter of an inch off, whiz it round, do the other side, and let's see what it looks like.
All right, there we are. That's our first cut. We're taking it easy. I don't want it to come flying out the vice.
Heat. Heat.
I've come back in the shop today. Let's continue with our blocking. Let's get it finished.
I'll bring you in. You can see we're on that last edge now. I've turned everything over. We got to take it down to 2 and 1/2 in. So, let's get on with that.
I've left the speed slow like this. I don't want to put too much force on the work and tip it out the vice. It's still sticking up quite a weight.
Plus, we're cutting through that flame cut edge and I don't want to overstress the at all.

We're not going to get it with that old.
We'll have to take these off.

So, what we're going to do, we're going to put about seven on.
I think that'll be quite satisfactory for this. So this will be the finishing pass.

What we're going to do now is we're going to take this out. We're going to clean it all up. I'll check the ends. If they're reasonably square, we'll leave them alone. If they're not, we'll machine them on the mill. But then we can get into marking out. We got to take the vice off the power hacksaw because we're going to spot through for the mounting holes. We got to drill and tap the block for putting studs in for clamping things to it. Let's get it out.
We I'll give it a clean up and have a look at it.
Right. I've come back in the workshop today to continue with our project on the power axle machining that little block. And I've taken the vice off the power axle. So I've lifted the front of the power axle up. I've got it propped up here. The vice now is removed.
We need to do that so I can get the holes in the block in the right place.
And I'll just show you. All right. I've got the vice off the power hacksaw here.
See? Look.
Nothing spectacular.
So there you go.
We've got the four mounting holes.
And what we've done, we've used a quarter inch transfer punch cuz these quarterinch holes for 6 mm cap screws.
And I've marked the first hole. You can just see it there. So, what we'll do, we'll drill a clearance hole quarter of an inch through on the drilling machine.
We'll put one bolt in that hold it in place. and then we can accurately transfer punch the other three holes knowing that it won't move. I just need the first one so we can lock things up so it can't move.
So, let's drill some holes. Right.
There you go.

All right, I've put a bolt in now. So, that's held in place.
Bolt in a nut.
Going to transfer punch these holes. Now, Okay, we've drilled the four holes in the plate. And I've put the plate on the power hackle and I've dropped some cap screws through to make sure the holes line up. I'll just show you.
Can you see?
There you go. That's the plate. Put four cap screws in. I don't think I need to counterbball them. We might do. We can do that in the future if we need to. Cuz don't forget, we're just going to clamp stuff in here like that.
But we may have to kind of warn them. If we do, we You know, we do. That's it.
Not a problem. Right. What we need to start doing now is thinking about drilling and tapping holes for the studs to clamp things together.
We need to mark that block out. Now, what I'm going to use for the hardware for holding things down are the 10 mm stud set, clamping set that I've got for the milling machine.
It'll be quite satisfactory.
So, we're going to drill and tap series of M10 holes. I'll just show you what I'm doing.
You see, I've got my special glasses on so I can see what I'm doing. end.
We're going to from the end from the end.
Heat.

Heat up here.
Okay, that's all the drilling done on this. We'll take this out, put it in the vise, and we'll start tapping some holes.
All right, we can start cutting the thread.
All right, that's the bottoming tap. So, we're going to push this all the way through. It's going to finish size the hole.
All right, all the holes are tapped out now. It's all finished. Now, all I need to do is to just clean everything up.
Make sure I've got no bur on the bottom.
All right, there we are. That's our block installed. Of course, our piece of steel now will go under there.
We can cut halfway through. Well, 2/3 the way through and turn it round.
[clears throat] Excellent.
So, all we need to do now is just sort out the clamping system.
Now, we've got our base.
All right, let's have a look. See what I've got.
All right. I've got something here. I've cobbled up. I've got two big studs.
I've got a clamp and a couple of nuts.
Seems to have it.
I think the proof will be in the pudding, though. I really needed a set of holes in the middle as well, you know, so I could just nudge that that way a little bit. I can't get them in there because it interferes with the the bow there of the saw.
I think we're ready to give it a try anyway. Let's see what uh what happens.

I'm going to give it a good oil in and then we'll get it going.
All right. We'll put some oil on. Let's see what happens. E Let's see what happens.
Put the [snorts] same thing underneath.
Rotate it. Well, let's uh move this. Put some load on it.
Oh, well, let it go and see what it does.
Okay.
We'll just stop it there and we'll turn it over. And so far so good. It's gone through all that lot.
Just switch it off here as well, just in case. All right, I've turned it round and let's get it going for the last little bit.
Close now.
Wait.
Make sure I pause this. I don't want to drop down. Nothing to stop this. Now it's flashing the word. It drops down.
Go. There you go.

Well, where there's a will, there's a way, I suppose. You can see the work here.
This was the original band saw cut here before the band saw felt pieces.
This is where we've just cut through.
Actually got it line up pretty well there. Not bad at all, but I'm pleased with that. That's a 4 in piece. Well, it's 100 mil by 100 mil.
So, I'm really pleased with that. Right.
What I'll do is I'll take this out and I'll put the other bit in.
All right, we've got the second one set up ready. We'll cut that one off now.
Use that 10 in for underneath the press here. And we'll look at starting to machine that.
We'll get the other one cut off. And I think that'll be sufficient for this for this video because we done quite a bit really trying to, you know, make some device to hold things so we can cut it off in the power axle. I think we've done quite well there.
Anyway, let's get this one cut off. All right, I've come back in the shop today and I had intended to cut the other plate off that we talked about in the last clip, but I've just been looking at the piece that we chopped off yesterday.
And we've got our little 4 in x 4 in 100 mil by 100 mil piece.
That's going to be the flange for the cylinder.
And when we cut that off with a leftover, this is the other piece of material.
And I thought, I wonder if I could actually use this instead of cutting a good piece of material up to go under there. Would it just go? And it will it's just just about there. Yeah, I think we'll be okay with that. All we need to do really is to square the end up here. You see where it's that's the end of the the roll bar.
If we square the end up and we square that end up, we can probably use this piece without having to cut another piece up, which will be really, really good because it means that we've got a another piece of steel left over for some other project in the future. So, I thought, yeah, we'll do that. Let's work with the piece that we've got that's already been cut. Got two nice pieces there. I can strip this plate off now on the power axle. and I can put the the vice back on. So, we finished with that little plate and it's done its job. I know it was quite a long project to do that, but it was worth doing it because it sorted a problem out for us and we can now move on to the next stage of our project. We couldn't do that unless we've done this. So, I'm pleased that we've got that done and it's there available for us in the future if we want to cut another big piece off. So, I'm going to take this piece of plate out.
Take the mounting plate off, clean things up, put the vice back on.
We'll put the mounting plate up there so it's safe, ready for next time. Okay, I've got the power hacksaw back together again. Now, see, we got the little vice in.
So, that's all done and finished with now. That's okay.

Next time we do work on the bench press. Couldn't even think of the name then.
The bench press. We'll be working on the blocks with two steel blocks that we got to cut now.
And we'll be doing that on the milling machine.
