Uh we're going to talk about that. Uh and today we've got a lot on the agenda and a lot on our plate, including $1.5 trillion ask. Uh and that that is that I just can't even I mean that's that's just so much money. Uh, so we're going to talk about all of that on today's show. I am so glad you are joining me. Um, one of the things about doing a podcast versus doing No, that's not true. I would have talked about, you know, David Hall used to always tell us when we would go in and he'd say to us, "Okay, what are the topics for the day?"

[00:01:42]And we would list all the topics that we thought we should talk about, like what's going on at the Pentagon and in front of Congress and like the Iran war and, you know, all that stuff. And then he would say, "All that's good, but what's really on your mind?" And then we would, Andrew and I would bring up something from our personal lives or a conversation that we were having or whatever, and he would say, "Lead with that. That's what you're going to lead with."

[00:02:10]And that's why our show on KFI and then KGO was so different because we led with the real stuff, the stuff that was going on in our world. And so many of you connected with that. The same with KGO.

[00:02:27]I would sit down with Brian, my producer. He'd say, "Okay, well, here's the world issues. You know, how do you want to cover those? But what's really going on with you? you know what what is really on your mind whether you think it's a topic or not and then we would talk about that and it is those topics that actually you guys remember the most. So yesterday I told you at the park there was a woman who's MAGA uh and she tried to say that she likes gays even though she votes for a party that didn't. And I know tomorrow on this gay week with Scott, we're going to bring up the five writers that were attached to a defense funding funding bill which passed the House yesterday. Okay? Passed the House. And these five things are egregious. Global gag orders where the country won't do business with anybody that even acknowledges that trans people exist. any nation or any company that has any kind of DEI policy to protect gays and lesbians, the United States won't do business with them. I mean, it is they're trying to eradicate gay people and they're trying to criminalize it. A a lawmaker in Florida came out this morning and said that gay people have no place in American society, that we are ungodly, that we go against scripture, and that we should be criminalized. This is a lawmaker. This isn't some fringe radical preacher. This is someone voted into power. A Texas judge this morning filed a lawsuit challenging same-sex marriage on a national level because she doesn't want to perform these marriages. Is she going to win? I don't know. But I will tell you right now, they are seriously coming for gays and they are using the language that Putin uses to criminalize homosexuality.

[00:04:25]That is what project 2025 wants done.

[00:04:28]They actually want us in camps. I am not making that up. It's in project 2025 and they are following this. Okay.

[00:04:39]So that is weighing very heavy on me.

[00:04:42]Very heavy.

[00:04:45]Number one, because I really can't afford to escape America right now. And number two, because I know how close the LGBTQ community is to losing most of our rights and being treated like criminals.

[00:05:01]Remember in this century, people were arrested for having gay sex in Texas.

[00:05:07]when a cop walking outside of their apartment looked through their window, closed window, through the curtains, saw them having sex and arrested them.

[00:05:19]That's why we don't have sodomy laws now. They challenged that arrest all the way to the Supreme Court. I'm not sure it would go their way again.

[00:05:29]But we're not talking ancient history. A gay couple just 15 years ago were arrested for having gay sex.

[00:05:37]And we're not talking about Sagal or another country. We're talking about the US. So, it's weighing very, very heavy on you.

[00:06:17]So yes, I am passionate about it. I am preachy about it. And yes, it affects my world. That's why yesterday when my two friends Jeanie and Sherry got up, when I confronted the MAGA lady about how if she votes Republican, she's not a friend of the gay community and they just sort of left. That hurt me because right now we need our allies to stand up and be vocal to help protect our rights. So that hurt me. Well, the day just got better. Another friend of mine sent me a song yesterday afternoon by Prince.

[00:06:57]Okay, now I don't like Prince. I don't like his music in particular. I don't like rock and I don't like his music in particular. But more importantly, I don't like that the man ran around in drag and high heels and became homophobic because of his Jehovah Witness. He actually believed that I was going to burn in hell because of being gay. And there are many comments attributed to him about same-sex marriage and how he completely disapproved of it. So, I see no need to support that artist. Just like now that the dead lead singer of the Village People said that the songs weren't gay and and was a Trump supporter, I feel no need to listen to The Village People or or have their records. I just don't.

[00:07:49]Now, there's a bigger conversation to be had about if an artist is a felon, a criminal, a murderer, do you still, you know, like their art? But if the artist, why do you think there is black music?

[00:08:04]Black people didn't want to hear white supremists sing.

[00:08:08]And so this person sent me the Prince song and I said, "Oh no, I don't do Prince. Prince is a homophobe. You know, Prince said this. He said this. He did not support the community. He was a hypocrite. He would fire people for smoking cannabis or drinking alcohol because he was a Jehovah a Jehovah witness. And yet he he stuck fentinil patches all over himself.

[00:08:33]So he was a hypocrite and he would stand there in red high heels and purple lace and denounce gay people. So no prince.

[00:08:41]Sorry. Well, when I said that to this person, they said, "Oh, I don't think about that stuff. I just think about the song."

[00:08:50]And after the day I had had that apathy from a gay person sent me over the edge and I went off on them and said, "You know what? Hitler painted. Would you buy one of his paintings?

[00:09:04]You're comparing Prince to Hitler?

[00:09:06]You're an [ __ ] You know, all this other stuff." And so finally I said, "Oh yeah, I'm the problem. Me. I'm the problem. the guy that's been out here defending gay rights for 40 years on major market radio, on television, in print, taking all the hits for it. Yeah, I'm the problem. And this person said, well, on that we agree. And that really hurt coming from this person. I mean hurt.

[00:09:31]Then this person proceeded to tell me, I worry too much about all these things. I need to get a life. I need to get a job.

[00:09:38]and I need to get a boyfriend to jump to dump all this [ __ ] on because it's just too much for them.

[00:09:46]I can't tell you how that hurt me. I really can't. I can't tell you how that hurt me and how I had to turn around and say, "Have you not paid attention to what I do for the last 35 years? To what I write about, to what I talk about? I do a show this gay week every week with a journalist in Canada, now Ukraine, who prints it across Canada. I go on news stations and I for 30 years now I've battled bigots on CNN and MSNBC and most recently GB news. Have you not even paid attention to who I am to say to me that I care too much about these issues?

[00:10:25]But it it struck a larger chord and that chord was apathy.

[00:10:34]There is so much apathy right now in the United States and not just from gay people, from a from the Democrats. They keep complaining about what Donald Trump is doing, but they do absolutely nothing to stop him. And they say, "We can't.

[00:10:52]Our hands are tied. We don't have the votes." What a convenient excuse to do nothing. We don't have the votes.

[00:10:59]Meanwhile, the Senate now gets to vote on five five amendments to a spending bill that gut LGBTQ rights in this country and across the globe. Global gag orders.

[00:11:17]I'm not supposed to care about that. I guess I'm supposed to just let it go.

[00:11:21]I'm I you know, nothing you can do about it. Why let it ruin your life? Why let it in? That's why I don't listen to the news.

[00:11:30]Apathy.

[00:11:32]Apathy is all across our country and the world, but particularly in the gay community.

[00:11:44]We are not out there fighting with our trans brothers and sisters. We're not.

[00:11:48]In fact, some gay men are wondering why they even should care about trans rights.

[00:11:53]They sound just like my friend yesterday. Why should I help the trans people? I'm too busy. You know, I I have a life. I have a job. I don't have time to sit around like you and think about all these things.

[00:12:06]To hear a friend tell me that I don't have time to sit around and think about these things. I have a life. I have a job. demeaning me, demeaning what I'm passionate about, and demeaning the fact that I care about them and about their rights and about what happens to them. I care more than they do. Now, my friend Hannah Bolty gave me a great piece of advice about another friend whose career I truly cared about more than my own.

[00:12:37]And Hannah sat me down one day and said, "You cannot care about someone else's career more than they do."

[00:12:45]I'm beginning to learn you cannot care more about someone else's rights than they do because it's just going to drive you crazy.

[00:12:57]And that's what's happening in the US right now. First of all, I care more about gay rights than almost anybody in the United States right now. And that's the truth because I don't hear people on social media all day long screaming about what's going on. In fact, I'm in an argument with a woman from Florida because a Republican lawmaker came out anti-gay and you know, all this other stuff. And I said, "Well, no [ __ ] Who cares?" And she said, "I care. I live in Florida." I said, "Well, he's a Republican. you should know what he stands for. You don't even have to publicize what he stands for. He's a Republican.

[00:13:37]Well, there's a lot of gays in Florida.

[00:13:39]And I said, "And there shouldn't be."

[00:13:41]And that's the truth. I tell this to my friend David who lives in Orlando all the time. You shouldn't live there. Why do gays and lesbians live in Tennessee, in Kentucky, in Florida, in Mississippi, in Alabama? Why do they continually give money to states that do not want them there, that literally have laws on the books against them? Why? I will never understand that when there's plenty of other states in the United States that don't have discriminary laws, discriminatory laws on their books.

[00:14:19]Massachusetts doesn't. Vermont doesn't.

[00:14:22]California doesn't. Washington State doesn't. Oregon doesn't.

[00:14:27]But but gays are going to live in Tennessee, in Kentucky, and they're, "Oh, it's not that bad. People don't seem to care. It's not I don't care what your neighbors treat you like." The state you live in, that you give your taxes to, that you pay into sales tax, that you pay, all of that is anti-gay, and yet you stay there.

[00:14:50]I don't understand that. I don't I just don't get it.

[00:14:58]And so that's apathy. That is I don't care that Florida's anti-gay. I'm still going to live there as a gay person.

[00:15:07]That's the problem.

[00:15:10]The problem is I don't care that America is this or that. I'm still gonna see we are excusing away egregious and horrible behavior by saying a I'm too busy to deal with it. I've got to work. I've got a life. I don't have time to deal with the news. You know, the news is the news. The people are going to do what they're going to do. There's nothing I can do about it. So, I'm not going to put it in my world. That's apathy. That That's the first thing.

[00:15:41]Second of all, we don't support the people in the world that are out there fighting. I get attacked for it. I have two friends that get up and leave the park when I start having this conversation with a third person. I have another friend that attacks me and says really kind of unforgivable things to me.

[00:16:04]I mean, I know I'm going to forgive this person, but I shouldn't. I should say you don't deserve to be my friend. You don't deserve to have me in your life if you can say these kind of things to me.

[00:16:16]Stop dumping your [ __ ] on me. Go get a boyfriend. You have too much time at home. You need a life.

[00:16:23]Because I refuse to listen to an artist who really believed I was going to burn in hell.

[00:16:32]because I choose to speak up more often than not about egregious violations of gay and lesbian rights or human rights and because I choose to fight.

[00:16:47]So what's on my mind today? Part of me wants to give up.

[00:16:53]Part of me does want to say, you know what, he's right. I'm 63. It is never going to change. I can't strip those five amendments off the bill. Only Democrats in the Senate can, and they're not likely going to. I can't change the laws of Florida or Tennessee or Kentucky or wherever. So, if gays want to live there and they want to accept those laws, then let them. Who cares?

[00:17:20]I I never had the who cares gene in me.

[00:17:25]The who cares? I don't care. Screw it.

[00:17:28]I'm going to concentrate on my dance single. I got a video to do. I'm going to concentrate on writing. I'm going to concentrate on making a movie. Who cares what the world does? Let the world [ __ ] burn. Who cares?

[00:17:40]I've never been that person. That's why I have this job.

[00:17:46]I have never been the person that says, "Who cares? I don't have time for that.

[00:17:50]I've got a life. I want to have a martini. I want to go and have my edibles. I want to go out and do this. I want to go have fun. I don't want to deal with the fact that we're being oppressed. I don't want to deal with the fact that same-sex marriage is about to vanish. I don't want to deal with the fact that they're moving to criminalize homosexuality in my country. I'll deal with it when it happens.

[00:18:11]In the meantime, I don't have the time for this.

[00:18:16]I said to Shamar Moore the other day on his Instagram when he said, "I don't do politics. I wish I lived in a world where I didn't have to do politics.

[00:18:26]where I could just say, "Oh, politics is what it is. I don't care." You know, all he's got to worry about is what show he's in, what personal appearances he's doing, what movies he's about to do.

[00:18:37]That's all he's got to worry about. That and his family because he's rich. He doesn't have to do politics. What's it affect him? It doesn't. Even as a black man, he's a rich black man, so it doesn't affect him.

[00:18:50]I wish I could be that person.

[00:18:54]And so I started searching, is it the show that's is if I if I changed the show completely, would that make it so I don't care so much that gays are losing their rights?

[00:19:06]If I didn't do a daily show or didn't have the show be focused on this, would I not care so much about what we're going to talk about when it comes to Pete Haggreath in front of Congress and the amount of money he's asking for?

[00:19:20]Should I even know? Does that Why does Why do I need to know how much he's asking for? Why do I even care? What What can I do to stop it? I can't.

[00:19:31]I can't. You can't.

[00:19:35]The world has been taken over by oligarchs. And if you're not an oligarch, you don't have a voice. You just don't have a voice, you know. So, do I let the fools win because it's easier? and I'll be happier.

[00:19:53]Is he right? Do I really just need to get more friends and a boyfriend so I have something else to think about?

[00:20:02]I mean, I'm not going to discredit what a friend says. I'm not going to, you know, totally slight him for his opinion of me, even as hurtful and terrible as it was. You know, is there grains of truth in it?

[00:20:16]I mean, he was just sending me a song. I could have just said, "Oh, Prince ain't for But thanks. Instead, I wrote a giant paragraph about why Prince ain't for me and all the things that he did against the gay community.

[00:20:30]Why? He didn't need to know all that. I should have just said, "No, not into it.

[00:20:34]Thank you. Why did I feel a need to point out all the sins of Prince?"

[00:20:43]You know, why did I need to point out all the champions of the gay community that I've done my whole life and all of my accomplishments just because I was hurt?

[00:20:53]You know, maybe the United States is irredeemable.

[00:21:02]Maybe the ship is sinking and no amount of paddling or or bailing will stop it.

[00:21:41]So, one of the topics I did want to talk about today, you know how I like the math of things, you know, like the math of America. You you know, if you're if you listen to the show, you know that I like to try to give perspective to the numbers.

[00:21:58]Yesterday, Pete Haggreth, Pentagon, Pete, Testosterone Tessy, asked for $1.5 trillion.

[00:22:08]Okay.

[00:22:10]The war has already cost 35.7 billion.

[00:22:15]They say they need 90 more billion just just for the war. For a war that we don't want, that we don't need. That has driven up prices. Has wounded over 500 Americans and killed over 17.

[00:22:31]And when you add that 90 to the 35, you get $125 billion. That is almost double the SNAP budget for the year.

[00:22:43]So we could feed people twice as much or twice as long with just the money for Iran. Every time Republicans have a social program in front of them, they either cut it or they make the people on it feel like crap. Oh, you've got to work. Oh, you're lazy. Oh, you're taking advantage of the system. You're just for every dollar they give to the poor, they make a poor person jump through 50 hoops and feel like crap for getting it.

[00:23:16]Meanwhile, they can spend double the SNAP budget on a war that no American wants except Republicans.

[00:23:25]That angers me. See, again, maybe that shouldn't anger me. Why does that anger me? Because I've been poor.

[00:23:32]I've been on those programs with my parents and I know how they treat people on them.

[00:23:38]And yet we plead poverty when we're trying to help. Look at the homeless problem. Everyone will tell you it's happening because we don't have the money to deal with it. Really?

[00:23:52]We don't have the money to solve the homeless crisis, but we have $140 billion to give to a war no one wants and $1.5 trillion to give to the Department of War.

[00:24:09]Let's go back to my seconds. Okay, a million seconds is 11 days. Okay, 1 million seconds is 11 days.

[00:24:21]1 billion seconds is 31 years. I'm sorry. Yes. A million seconds is 11 days.

[00:24:34]1 trillion seconds is 31,000 years.

[00:24:41]So we just we can't comprehend this. He asked for $1.5 trillion.

[00:24:48]That is $4.1 million a day of spending for a,000 years or $171,000 per hour for a thousand years.

[00:25:13]The money that Pete Haggreth asked for the Department of War yesterday is $4.1 million a day for a thousand years.

[00:26:01]They've already spent $35 billion. The SNAP budget is 69 billion a year and they've cut it.

[00:26:11]You know, another thing yesterday that got me angry, Trump has closed 1,700 HIV services across the world. 1,700 HIV and AIDS services across the world.

[00:26:26]People will not get medication and people will die. He is killing people with AIDS and nobody cares. It's like Ronald Reagan again. Nobody cares.

[00:26:36]Congress doesn't care. They didn't reverse it. Congress could have reversed that and said, "No, we're leaving these open." But they didn't.

[00:26:44]1,700 AIDS service organizations across the globe closed because of Donald Trump pulling the funding.

[00:26:54]Pulling the funding. And yet, we've spent 39 billion on war. He wants another immediate 80 billion and then 1.5 trillion for the Department of War.

[00:27:09]See, maybe my friend was right.

[00:27:13]I mean, it's feudal to fight that because the only people that can say no to him is Congress and they're not going to.

[00:27:22]And people still support this man.

[00:27:25]They still support, including gay. Some gay people support him.

[00:27:31]1,700 closed AIDS organizations, cutting social programs at a time when people need them the most, and asking for $4.1 million a day for a thousand years, to fund war.

[00:27:52]That's what they want that money for.

[00:27:53]the Pentagon, the Department of War, $1.5 trillion or $171,000 a day. I'm sorry, an hour. $171,000 per hour for a thousand years.

[00:28:20]I can't see that weighs on me. I think to myself that you that's just that's ridiculous. That is beyond the pale. War shouldn't cost that much.

[00:28:34]There shouldn't be that much money spent on war when you have 50 million children that go to bed hungry every night. When your nation leads the world in medical bankruptcies.

[00:28:46]where you see GoFundMes every day, including for that star from The Real Housewives of Orange County who got tongue cancer and she can't afford the chemo, $150,000 for chemo. In another country, she'd get it free.

[00:29:02]We have Americans struggling and yet they want to give 1.5 trillion of our dollars, $171,000 an hour for a thousand years to the War Department.

Unlike the person who told me maybe I should get one, I had a husband for 12 years and we cared about these issues and we fought about these issues and we brought these issues to our listeners. So the notion that me dating someone would make me not care about these issues was again insult insulting and hurtful. Um but who does the math? Who does it? How many Americans do you suppose when they heard the $ 1.5 trillion figure actually sat down and said, "Well, how much money is that?"

[00:31:13]How many of them know that that's 171,000? The annual salary, average salary is $68,000 in the United States.

[00:31:21]So basically, if you just stretch the numbers a little, we are giving away or we're spending three salaries per hour for a thousand years on war.

[00:31:40]Meanwhile, healthc care costs are out of control. Corporations are making billions. United Healthcare 5.4 billion in profit last year while you struggle to get the care you need and be able to afford it. One cancer diagnosis and I'm done. That's it. Even if I live through it, I'd have to sell my house and use all the proceeds to pay for the chemotherapy. Thank you, America. But we can spend $4.1 million a day for a thousand years on war.

[00:32:15]Homeless. Everyone always says it's money. It's money. That's why we haven't solved it. We obviously have enough money to solve it.

[00:32:24]It's just not in the right hands.

[00:32:27]Meanwhile, The View had Tucker Carlson on today. Why? Why? I am so sick of liberals giving these [ __ ] a chance to spew their ridiculousness. That's why I don't like any of these people, Dean Withers or Destiny or any of them. And how they are sitting there taking on the other side. There is no other side.

[00:32:51]There is no two sides in the Holocaust.

[00:32:54]There was not Hitler's side to it and the Jews side. Okay? There weren't two sides of the Holocaust.

[00:33:02]The United States government under Donald Trump is planning an LGBTQ holocaust. It's what they want. They want us to either leave or die. Oh, no they don't. Carell, really? Then why did they shutter 1700 AIDS organizations?

[00:33:19]Why did they stop PREP and medication and these things being covered for people? They don't want us to die.

[00:33:25]Really? Why are they refusing gender affirming care to trans people? Why are they putting a international gag order in the bill that's going through the Senate right now?

[00:33:45]They want us to leave or die. That's what they want. And if you don't think that's true, then you're not paying attention.

[00:33:54]And so we live in this country where the Democrats say they're powerless. And they say they're powerless just so they'll win the midterms. Oh, we're powerless. Give us the numbers we need in the midterms and we'll change everything. No, you [ __ ] won't.

[00:34:10]They're not going to do for good what Trump has done for evil. They're not going to use the new powers for good. When a Democratic president finally takes over, he's not going to use the executive orders like Trump did.

[00:34:23]He's not going to use the power of the executive like Trump did. He's not going to do whatever he wants knowing he's immune because the Supreme Court said he was immune. He's not. Or she's not. That they're just not going to do it. And that's why we constantly lose.

[00:37:18]Can I mean, you just you can't make this up. The Colorado River's largest reservoirs, Lake Meade and Lake Powell, have declined to their lowest combined levels in the history of the two reservoirs.

[00:37:34]Researchers say the new low underscores the urgent need to cut water use in the seven states that depend on the river.

[00:37:43]How is that a solution? What are people supposed to do? Not drink, not bathe, not grow food.

[00:37:53]I mean truly, how is cutting a solution?

[00:37:58]It's not. We need to get more water.

[00:38:02]Lake me and Lake Powell, the country's two largest reservoirs, have fallen to their lowest combined levels on record.

[00:38:09]A grim marker in the deepening water crisis across seven states that depend on the river. The two reservoirs are now lower than the previous record in 2023.

[00:38:18]Researchers say it's a hell of a milestone, says Jack Schmidt, director of Utah State University Center for Colorado River Studies. Really a teaching moment to all of us about the severity of the crisis. US Interior Secretary Doug Bergam, who was probably formerly a podcaster, met with the governors of seven states virtually Tuesday and said his agency will release a plan to deal with the water shortage next week. Lake me near Las Vegas, the country's largest reservoir, is only 24% full, which means it is 76% depleted.

[00:39:00]It is 76% depleted. It's at 24%.

[00:39:08]Lake Powell on the Utah Arizona border, the second largest reservoir in the country, is at 23% of capacity, meaning it is 77% empty.

[00:39:23]If it drops 30 more feet, water will not reach its intakes to generate hydro electric power.

[00:39:33]Wow.

[00:39:34]They predicted the reservoirs will keep setting records every day until snows come and bring the next seasonal pulse of runoff. However, even though a super El Nino condition is forecast, it will only provide minimal relief. The latest 3-month forecast by the weather service predicts above average rainfall along the river and in much of the Southwest through October.

[00:40:04]However, the river provides water for 35 million people and 5 million acres of farmland from the Rocky Mountains to northern Mexico. The water was originally divided among states in 1922 under an agreement that overpromised what the river could provide.

[00:40:26]Taking that water since 1922 has put us in this shape.

[00:40:33]If you need any more evidence that there is a five alarm fire going on, here it is. Schmidt said the changes that are going to be necessary to live in this world of reduced runoff are going to be incredibly significant. We need to get even we need to get seven states to act together or accept a mandate from the federal government that major reductions have to be implemented immediately.

[00:41:04]What are some of the possible reductions?

[00:41:07]reductions could include, okay, establishing a new operating framework to work with the states and 30 tribes to get closer to a consensus.

[00:41:20]However, representatives of California, Arizona, and Nevada have offered to make substantial cuts using about 1.6 million acre feet less annually over the next two years. But state officials have said the Trump administration says that is not enough. They want to cut 40% of their combined allotments. That's nearly as much as all the water that flowed for from 19 million people's taps across Southern California last year. Although it's important to remember that most of the water goes to agriculture.

[00:42:02]Are we going to reach a time where there will be rationing in Los Angeles, Las Vegas, San Francisco, Seattle, Portland, Utah, and other major states? Yes. Yes, we are.

[00:42:28]Last week, Southern California accepted $65 million from the US Bureau of Reclamation in return for leaving 200,000 acre feet of water in Lake Meade so it maintains its ability to pump electricity.

[00:42:50]Lake Me was lower only once before in 2022, but Lake Powell was higher then. So they released water into Lake me.
