I have one girl kitten from the five kittens, right? So, all the boys are together because whenever I put them all together, one boy kind of two of them, they kind of go on the hunt for her. They're all fixed, >> right?

[00:02:25]>> So, they just go and attack her and it's like this whole thing. So, she's constantly hissing at them and they never hiss. So, finally, >> she didn't separate them. She doesn't have anybody to play with though except her mother who's not very playful. You know how mothers, >> right? Right. Mother's cats don't play.

[00:02:43]I'm not your friend. I'm not find somebody else to play with. But there is one boy kitten who is so sweet and just so shy. And I I finally let him in the space where the girl cat is. The girl kitten. They're siblings, but you know, I I had him separate. When I tell you they have been sleeping together and snuggling together and so finally I mean it just warms my heart that they're getting along that she has somebody to play with.

She actually, this isn't part of my windown, but just an announcement just to let y'all give your Nala updates. She had little kidney stones. So, she had her little surgery for kidney stones. So, she's very quiet and off to the side. She and and we're talking about these stones are like real rocks. It's like shocking.

[00:05:31]>> Like they were actual rocks, >> like people stones.

[00:05:35]>> I say it's the same for people who get kidney stones. And I didn't [clears throat] realize kidney stones are just they look like an actual stone that you could pull pick up off the ground. It really literally look your body creates rocks that are inside of your body and those were inside of her.

[00:05:50]Let me go get them. Hold on. SHOULD I SHOW Y'ALL SEE THE KIDNEY STONES? IT'S REALLY CRAZY.

[00:05:58]Let me tell you. Christy Blackman said what? Dogs and kidney stones. Here's the thing about dogs. Let me say this as a resident animal expert here. Animals get everything we get. Cancer, Alzheimer's, Jesus. All of that >> was inside. And this is only some of them cuz you know Jason was like, "I'm getting I want the stones." He and they were like, The doctor was like, "Why do you want the stones?" He was like, "Cuz I paid for them. I want the stones."

[00:06:22]These are the You hear that? These are stones that are like a rock.

[00:06:27]>> They're like real rocks. They were sitting on her bladder. And so every minute she was running outside to say think she had to pee and then nothing would come out. Because can you imagine those rocks sitting on top of your bladder just sitting there?

[00:06:41]>> If one of them had passed >> it would it would have been excruciating if she passed that through her. Can you imagine?

[00:06:48]>> That's what happens with kidney stones.

[00:06:49]That's why they're so painful. But I was saying before you came back the thing that people need to realize about animals they will get any ailment that we have they will get. And so when it comes to what you feed them, how much you exercise them, positive energy, all that stuff matters. So typically if you've got kidney stones, it means there's this lack of fiber. Someone was saying in the comments that means the baby needs more fiber, >> right?

[00:07:17]>> And she's on a special diet. Yeah, I was gonna say you have to because they get everything we get >> feeding your dog scraps from your plate and you got high blood pressure and diabetes and all that stuff. So, >> they'll get it too. They will get it too. And we were feeding her and so, you know, because we have bougie dolls that go to daycare like a child. We were feeding her this expensive food that you order that's like food. But it comes in like a can and it has rice and vegetables and I know it has it has chicken and beef or what you can get different flavors. But we were feed and it comes in and it's this really expensive food. Apparently this food was not the right food for her and we were feeding that plus mixing in this also really expensive dry dog food mixing up.

[00:08:00]The doctor was like no. And so about six months ago when she first got diagnosed with the kidney stones they put her on a special diet. So she eats this super highfiber special food that we have to order from the pet store. You have to order it and they have to like deliver it to you.

[00:08:14]It's like really So she's eating the special food, but it and she's and the doctor said it's a 50/50 chance it would reduce the stones. It didn't. And she said if it doesn't reduce the stones, she has to get the surgery. So she ended up having to get the surgery. Sorry, my I'm on week 14 of my Invisalign. So that's why I sound extra.

[00:08:32]No, but it No, it it really doesn't sound like it did in the beginning with the Invisalign.

[00:08:41]Somebody blessed or messy. Blessed or messy said um make the food no preservatives. Yeah, it is best if the best if you make it. Yeah, >> my brother for his dog for um Escobar James Troder, he made his food, but he also ate he ate a full raw diet. like he would chop up, you know, sweet potatoes.

[00:09:00]He actually made he would sit there and cook his food like he's a child.

[00:09:04][laughter] Our our dogs are treated like I mean she goes to daycare and they do paw art.

[00:09:09]They do they hold on a second.

[00:09:11]>> I wish your brother would get his dog fixed instead of being like most men um and wanting to either breed him or just not take away his manhood because it's so problematic for the dog. Um, >> this is what happens at my dog's school.

[00:09:30]>> This was her art that she made for St. Patrick's Day.

[00:09:34]>> Now, do y'all hang this up?

[00:09:35]>> It's on my I just took it off the fridge. We hang this up like I I promise you it's like it's like she's a child.

[00:09:41]So, we have her art on the fridge like because we don't have any little kids left. So, this is our little kid. So, this is her art that she made on St. Patrick's Day. She made us a Thanksgiving. They made it shaped like a turkey. And then the the little turkey leaves were made with her paws. She made us one over there that's for Valentine's Day with little red paws. I promise you, they make them do art. They take pictures with Santa at Christmas.

[00:10:05]>> It It's like a daycare center for a child.

[00:10:09]She has friends with We have their names of the friends. We know who she plays with. She got in a fight with one of them. They called us like she got in a fight at school and they were like, "Um, just we want to let you know she didn't start it. The other dog started it and she got a little scratch on her nose. We just want to let you know she's fine." I mean, they called to check on her after her surgery to say, "We just want to make sure that Nala is okay." It's like she's a human child.

[00:10:33]>> Crazy. But anyway, my wind down very quickly is this week. I know. That should be my wind. I SHOULD LEAVE RIGHT FROM THERE. [laughter] >> Why do I say more?

[00:10:41]>> Like my wind down very quickly. That was it. That was my windown. No, my wind down was this week I got a chance to meet Mory Povich. I think it's so I I don't know why there's So, you know, you grow up meeting you grow up watching someone on TV and then you grow up you get to meet THE THERE I AM WITH MY So my Povich has a new podcast and I got to be on it. Um it's already it's already on his it's already live. It's on his Mory Povich um channel on YouTube. He has a channel on YouTube. He's got a podcast.

[00:11:07]So that was fun. And then my second piece of my windown and he was very nice. I did not get him to say you are not the father. So, we're going to have him on our show and then I'm going to get him to say it. And then my second windown is We want a Webbby.

[00:12:48]>> I am drinking. Hi, Oaks. See, they they they better start sponsoring us. I be drinking so much out of I be drinking the hell out of this. So, I'm I'm giving a second try to the watermelon lime. It is the social tonic. So, I don't have to day drink. This time I did, per the chat last time, they said, "Put some ice in it because there's sediment at the bottom and I don't like the sediment."

[00:13:07]So, I let it settle. I put my ice cube in it and I drink it down to here and then I I don't like the the sediment.

[00:13:12]That's the one thing I don't like about it. But I love the taste.

[00:13:19]>> You see, you're so you're you always have a complex.

[00:13:23]>> It's not complex. A cheesecloth is basically a strainer. You just take it, you put it over your glass and take the can open, put that over the glass, pour it, and then it's drained. Why is this hard for you?

[00:13:51]>> Uh I am drinking uh my cycling frog, which I've been talking about so much.

[00:13:56]People have been asking me. Yeah. Uh where do I get this? What, you know, how can I get it? I love it. Um because it has a little THC in it, so it gives you a little kick. Um, but it's also delicious. They have different flavors.

I just really love [laughter] it. Should be >> could be if they want, you know. So my windown is actually uh gratitude and I I'm grateful for the people in our community in the cousin community that watched the last show that we did um where I said that I would be attending the TLC invogue uh Salt and Pepper concert because I'm friends with Salt and Pepp. After talking to them, at first I wasn't really planning to go, but after I talked to them about everything going, I was like, you know what? Let me go hang out with them and show them some love. Um, and the people who were like so upset that I was going to this concert, there were so many people that we had to end up blocking because they were being very vicious. I don't mind people like I am grateful for the people who disagreed with me and agreed with you who you were planning to go but you decided not to. um and you don't understand why anybody is going but there are people who are going and I am one of them and the people in the comments who disagreed with me but wanted to say that I look tired that um I'm MAGA that I am uh a fool um and all this stuff it just got so negative there were a lot of people that were like I disagree with you and they made an argument for why they disagreed with me that I didn't mind and that's why they didn't get blocked. I I'm not the kind like I don't need people to disagree with me because I disagree with people too. You know, we're not going to all the opinions, >> but it was just like so many people uh in this whole and we're going to talk a little bit more about this this cancel culture that I and I get it because I cancel Target, right? when it came time us when we had a strategic you know plan for how to do this I was happy to cancel Target when the Jimmy Kimmel thing happened I canceled Hulu I didn't have Disney would have cancelled that too >> but the the way that people I mean the negativity like some people didn't call me names but they were just so like angry about it and it was just so the nastiness that people have about this Um, and I talked to Cheryl Salt and she was really hurt by just people can turn on a dime on you, you know, fans of hers who have been there for so long because she wrote something supporting Chile, right?

[00:17:01]Saying, "Girl, hold your head high as of because they are like long friends and colleagues and people have been she told me somebody said they were going to drag her to hell."

[00:17:12]>> Um, oh yeah, it just got really really nasty. And so I get deciding as a consumer or as a fan of someone, hey, I'm not going to do that anymore. But the the way that people come at you like the negativity, it's like what I I don't I honestly don't believe I honestly believe that a lot of people and some of them were in are in our space won't be until Chile kills herself.

[00:17:42]>> I believe that. I believe that there will be people who will be cheering because they want to put like they p like I believe in I may disagree about something but I don't what I don't do is pylon >> right >> right what I do not agree with is like she's getting enough heat out there >> do [clears throat] you have to add to that and she feels I I get she voted how she voted and this is not a you know I'm not trying to take up for her and what she did I get that you know that people I don't like what she did. I don't like the way that she supported MAGA, but I don't hate her, >> right? And I don't want to see her destroyed mentally. People want to tear people down. Like I think that a lot of people will dance and celebrate if she were to and I hope she's not at this point, but she's distraught [clears throat] by all of this. Um that she I I feel like if she were to if someone were to come after her because this is how it starts this anger, right?

[00:18:41]And so now she could be open to some kind of violence or something like that.

[00:18:46]And so I just feel like we need to tone down the anger and the hate and the negativity. We get enough of that from the other side. Do we have to does that make it right? You know, people were calling me MAGA, >> which is hilarious to me. If y'all spent five seconds on [laughter] the phone with that's like the most insane that one when when we and I talked about this because I and I apolog I don't I don't I haven't been in TW I haven't been on social media much. I've been literally buried in my work. So I hadn't seen the comments until you told me about them and read me some of them and I'm like what? I said let me go on here and see because I didn't see it. And I go through and I watch your posts your um you know I I watch the Jackie Reed experience. I go and watch it and I read all the journalistic posts, but I don't really read the comments to be honest with you. And so the comments are crazy.

[00:19:35]And the thing is the idea that they could if you're if you are a fan of Jackie Reed and you've been listening to Jackie for even like a year, you know that she's like despises MAGA.

[00:19:45][laughter] Like it's the opposite of MAGA. Like so the idea that you would be MAGA because you are friends with somebody who voted Republican. We don't even know if she voted for Trump. We just know she voted Republican. That's crazy. Like that is actually just >> Yeah, >> that's just dumb. That's >> it. It really is. It's like listen, I I I just It just like it didn't hurt my feelings what people were saying, but the hatefulness of it based on like you said, the totality of who I am and how I present myself, all of a sudden it was just like vicious.

[00:20:25]>> Viciousness. And can you imagine Jackie if you were getting that for not even being part of the story? Like you didn't vote for Maga or post on your social media pro. You just know someone who's friends with her. Like it's not even like she's your direct home girl. She's your friend's home girl. You know what I mean? So if you're if you got that, can you imagine what she getting?

[00:20:47]>> Girl, I don't I don't wish her any ill. I just don't there people I believe that a lot of the people in here are not not a lot of people in here but a lot of people on social media not here but on social media >> are just so angry. Um and there are a number of reasons why they are angry. It could be the the state of the country under Trump. It could be the economy because of Trump. But it could also be things going on in their lives, right?

[00:21:21]because we will, you know, we will talk later about the domestic violence situations that happened that left, you know, black women dead, black children dead, um because of black men in these instances that couldn't work out their anger and their emotions. And I think that if you look closely enough on social media when people are like foaming at the mouth with the way that they're talking about things and the way that they come at you, like they don't know how to disagree civily. It has to be you're stupid or you're MAGA or somebody was like I'm cancelling you. I'm glad I heard you say that. You're cancelled and I'm just what the >> what is going on? We need to get it together.

[00:22:04]>> I'm going to read a couple of our comments in the thread. Mrs. Knots Teaching Channel 5873 says, "I think people are so enraged by what is going on in their lives and in the world that sometimes they become hyper sensitive and react in a very hostile manner on certain things." Uh, blessed and messy says it's Trump's fault. Like for real, I agree with that. Um, you have Spanky Duke2682 saying it's frustration with this government and nowhere to lash out at. I think that's um a part of it.

[00:22:30]Complete cloney84 says, "Viciousness is not necessary, but being selective about where we provide support and who we give our money to is important." It says, "Oh, this K. Williamson, I agree with this. I think some people troll these chats to start shit."

[00:22:44]>> I think some people do do that, too. Um, and it says, uh, I wouldn't say most people, uh, this is, uh, Orange Moon 96 says, "I wouldn't say most people on the internet, but the loudest ones." I think that is true. I think there are some people who don't really care about the underlying issue, but they like to start [ __ ] online. And then I think there's a category that hate Trump so much. I mean, look, I I I can't I I hate Trump, you know, but I but I think what's happening is people are transferring that anger at Trump and at MAGA onto anyone they think is in any way associated. But at the same time, what's wild is that's not most people cuz like you said, those concerts are sold out.

[00:23:24]So there's like a there's there's a lot there's probably even more people that either don't care or aren't following it. So it's only the loud really angry people that you're hearing from. It's not really a representative sample of people. You know what I'm saying? Like it's not really representative. It's just angry and focused.

[00:23:42]>> But they're but they're very loud and they make it their business to just go, you know, bounce around from place to place. you know, like one woman who was like, "You look tired, Jackie, and you need to sit down with all that blah blah blah blah blah." And I went and looked her up and she's uh like a beauty influencer, right? She's out there selling clothing and all these things.

[00:24:04]And it's like, and now you're a black woman coming after another black woman because I don't wear makeup or whatever and saying that I look tired. Like, that's what we doing. black women to each other. Like I I just don't get it.

[00:24:19]There's a way like you don't have to agree with me. I'm not going to agree with with everybody and everything, but there is a way to do it civily without calling people names or bringing people down in that way. So I do say that the m overwhelming majority of the people who didn't agree with me here and there were some who did who didn't agree with my choice to go to this concert were um they expressed it but they did so in a in a civil way right themselves and I and some of them I engaged with um but >> yeah but nasty people you know what [ __ ] them [laughter] honestly >> that's all you can really say is if you're nasty and you It's there's no reason.

[00:25:02]>> No, it's it's just so wild.

[00:25:04]>> You know what's so wild? Like I am in actual beef with Nicki Minaj and have been for I didn't start it. I mean like I mean I said something about her saying you know COVID vaccine to make your balls swell up or something like that and then she came after me like in a screed like an hour long posting about me and Don Lemon. She's done she said vicious crazy things about Don Lemon.

[00:25:23]But I don't hate Nicki Mina like I I don't hate her, you know what I mean? I still think she's a talented. I don't think she's a brilliant artist. Kanye West, I still think he's brilliant. I I mean, I don't want to listen to his music. I will never support either one of them. I won't give them my money, but like I I definitely think that we're I don't know. It's hard to unpack it, right? Because there's some of them who are who are more dangerous than others.

[00:25:42]Like I think Kanye is more dangerous than Chile. You know what I mean? Like, you know what I mean? Like, he's actively promoting this dangerous [ __ ] and yet he's getting plenty of support from black people. Like, plenty.

[00:25:52]>> Yeah. Dave Chappelle was at his last concert backstage, but they're friends.

[00:25:57]And I think that Dave Chappelle may not agree with a lot of what Kanye does, but I think that >> he's being a friend.

[00:26:04]>> He is being a friend and showing up. Um, and that's his choice, right? John Legend, he and John Legend were friends, they fell out. He and Jay-Z were friends, they fell out. I think I think Dave Chappelle goes above it. I have friends like that where it's like they're combative and I just or or not necessarily combative, but I don't agree with a lot of the the way that they think uh about certain things. And so I just kind of don't go there. I just try to be supportive because I realize that they're dealing with something either mentally or just in life that things are heavy >> or just people [ __ ] up sometimes. You know what I mean? Like, you know, I think about like Biggie and Tupac were like real friends. They were genuinely friends. When they fell out over some [ __ ] the two sides of the Biggie and Tupac thing were literally willing to kill each other.

[00:26:58]>> And this was over beef that wasn't even real. This was these two brothers that were really friends. They get pushed apart. I think in part because Diddy pushed them apart. But these and then there was this whole meme of East Coast, West Coast. That was [ __ ] because hip-hop was just one thing where every different region was participating. You had St. Louis, you had South, you had East, you had West, and everybody was like it was a loving kind of, you know, rivalry. This all of a sudden became a deadly beef and left both of those those black men dead. So it's like we're taking beef to a crazy new level. If you get beat you for going for attending a concert, if that becomes a thing where you have to get cancelled for going to a concert like that's not like I mean people are some people in the chat are talking about they canceled their their Roland Martin subscription but they're mad about something that he's directly injecting himself into a story. You're just going to a show like this. This is not like you like I support MAGA. You know, it's not like you like declaring you didn't put a red hat on and say, you know, go Trump and and and you're not even going. You're going because you're friends with another group that's on the thing. What does S Peppa have to do with this? What does and Vogue have to do with any of it? Like they're not and Vogue didn't do it, you know? [laughter] I don't know. It is a very odd thing that you know all these girls all these women I shouldn't say girls all these women including now you are taking backlash because one person had some Facebook posts and stuff you know >> it's like that is that is that is crazy and I think whether you want to go to the concert or not is your choice you know you can choose not to go and you can have a principled reason not to go but don't attack Jackie she she not even this ain't even about even about it you didn't even do anything >> so It just it is it is it's unfortunate.

[00:28:41]I'm sorry that happened to you >> on my Instagram when I just clarified that this the concert wasn't cancelled, >> right? Like you did not cancel it. It's like you >> were like, "How dare you? Why are you reporting on this?" And I'm like, >> "That's stupid." I mean, it's like you reporting on the thing not being cancelled and it's your fault that it's not cancelled. WELL, THEN Y'ALL figure out how to cancel it. This has nothing to do, this is not Jack on Jackie to cancel a concert that you want cancelled that literally millions of people are attending because they want to go and it's sold out. They're going like people are going. So I'm like are all these blacks that are going are they mega?

The concert was not only not cancelled, it's actually doing really well. So those artists are m are the people are going and are you going are they all going to see Chile or are they going to see all of the groups? I I mean you can't you if all the groups were MAGA if this was a MAG if this was a Turning Point USA show. I would totally be with you if you if if these people if all these groups and Vogue um Salt and Peppa and Tia and um what uh TLC were going on a Turning Point USA tour and you went to it, then I would say you might be Maggot Lady if you you know what I mean? I would object to that. You know what I mean? I wouldn't call you names, but I would be like oh that you're you're then showing support.

[00:33:21]You're purchasing a Turning Point USA ticket. THIS THIS CONCERT AIN'T a Turning Point ticket. This isn't a mega tour. This isn't like Kid Rock put together a tour for MAGA artists and Kanye is going to be there. That if you went on that then everyone associated with that concert would be associating itself with MAGA. This is literally she didn't even come out and say she was MAGA. She got a outed after the show started. It's not like she was bragging about being MAGA. The show gets set up and somebody dug up her posts which she then tried to deny. like she was so embarrassed about it. She tried to say it wasn't real. So, it's like this is not like she came out like Kanye with a red hat. This is just different. I I think I think people need to just calm down. You know, those other women on the tour, they didn't do anything.

They have a livelihood that they like to you know and and and it's not just now but it's you know this is the the money that they make has to sustain them because you know this business is fickle for them entertainment fans opportunities come and go so they have to make the money that they have to make and that's why I'm going to support my friends because it's seven other black women who are on that tour and people are like no I don't want to give money to MAGA you know then why you know then don't Oh, >> but I think you shouldn't go. I think if YOU CUZ THAT'S ME. I WAS in >> a portion of all the money they act like every coin going towards. You got seven seven other black women. Not to mention the band members, the crew, >> the makeup artists, the hair stylists who are all who are probably all black, >> you know what I mean? And are just trying to make a living. And this all popped up after they announced the concert. Yeah.

They're just mad and angry." And I don't like MAGA. I don't like Trump. I don't like what's happening in this country. And yes, I'm angry about it, but I'm not going to lose my humanity over it. And a lot of people have lost their humanity um over this stuff. And that's sad.

So, what happens is people who pay the 50 grand, they then invite, that's how AOC got to go because it's $50,000. And so, people don't usually have the money. So, they usually get, you know, 10 and then they'll invite super celebrities to be at their table. So, some of those people are probably hosting a table, meaning they probably donate and it is to raise money for charity. So, if you don't if you cancel on it, you canceling on charity. What do you do? Like, what would you do if you had a charity, a charitable event that you knew was raising money for something good and then all of a sudden Jeff Bezos came in and dropped the big money on it and now they're it's tainted with Jeff Bezos poop.

[00:47:29]Um, and like it so, so you're paying for the curation of the exhibit probably for the next year. Yeah, that's it is because every Met Gala if you go to the to the Met like the actual museum there's like you know there there's it it's based on the theme of the gala or the gala is based on the theme of the exhibit.

[00:47:50]>> The thing is you know maybe you don't go to the Met Gala but you can go to New York and go to the exhibit and be a part of it. That's where the money goes >> um towards you know the museum and the curation of that >> and everyone also they know that they don't that you don't have to ever go inside apparently is a fabulous galla with music and music no one ever it knows about that people just see the red carpet that's what and then that turns up on everyone's social media so everybody's putting this on their Instagram stories and they're putting it on their Tik Tok pages so are y'all going to do that are people going to normalize this Jeff Bezos slimed version of the me which is probably going to be fabulous because that theme is fabulous.

It says that according to insiders, the decision is largely tied to Mamani's democratic socialist platform, which prioritizes avoiding high society events that symbolize the kind of wealth concentration he often critiques. By declining the invitation, the 34year-old is also steering clear of a star-studded billionaire heavy evening built around luxury and exclusivity. He's not coming, a source said, and it would be foolish if he did. Can you imagine? It goes against everything he believes in. Thank God that the Met Galla and it's Yeah, it's and you know that um Lauren Sanchez the wife of Jeff Bezos who they had a $52 million wedding million which Oprah and all the stars attended Gail Oprah everybody were there because they >> were there I can't remember >> Usher I think was there so this is what's happening is that >> fascism is already being normal normalized, right? Because the rich and celebrity culture is so it's already so separated from the idea of morality. You know, wealth and morality do not go together.

[00:52:33]And the more the richer you are, the more your circle of friends becomes other really rich people. And so if they're all really rich people all and all really famous or really rich and they're all in one circle, they don't see the immorality of the things that let's say Palunteer is doing cuz you know they're making money in Palunteer.

[00:52:54]They're making money in Bitcoin. They don't see the immoral. You stop seeing immorality and you also don't ever see poor people. You don't have to come near them. You don't have to contact them.

[00:53:02]You don't have to see lack. And so I feel like it eventually taints everybody rich, everybody famous. And it's like it's very hard to to to to um separate yourself. I mean like you and I, Jackie, I mean we I I joke about how many celebrities you've met, you know, being in this medium, it's a weird new kind of fame, you know what I mean? It used to be just being a journalist was just being a journalist. It had nothing to do with being famous. But now it's like you yourself, we ourselves have met presidents, >> you know what I mean? It's a it's an intoxicating thing to be in the circles with very famous people and pretty soon >> the the regular people are no longer in your circle and that's when it gets dangerous. You know what I mean? Like I'm thankful to have kept friends from way before, you know, >> and people to ground you and family that that are grounding you in the real world because it can be very intoxicating to be like I'm around kings. I've met a queen. I met, you know, >> and you can get caught up, right, in thinking, >> well, these are my friends. This is my circle. And it's not your circle. You just have access in the moment, right?

[00:54:10]It's not necessarily your circle, and that can change on a dime, which we've seen uh with so many people. But I do want to say that with Mam Donnie, he's not saying like I don't think he would have gone based on what he's saying, no matter who was hosting it. Like if Louis Vuitton who hosted it last year, I think he's saying he's not going because of Bezos, he said that he's not going because of the opulence of it, because of all the money. It's a billionaire's playground, which is what the Met Gala is. And so he's saying that he would rather fall in line with affordability uh and not go to something like so it's not he says nowhere that it's because of Bezos hosting it. Um so it's interesting that he's making this choice but it falls in line with exactly who he is um as a politician.

[00:55:03]>> So the New York the New Yorker story implies that it's but right he doesn't exactly use Bezos's name. He just said he he doesn't say him by name, but the implication at least of this particular story >> but if you read that like I'm reading the quotes from him and he's saying it's because >> he wouldn't go nowhere.

[00:55:22]>> He wouldn't go he didn't say that but he's saying the reason that he's not going is because he's anti-billionaire which is what the Met Gala is all about money and all of those things. That's what he's saying. Um because like ALC has gone in the past, you know what I mean?

[00:55:39]>> And she got criticized for it when she went and she went and she wore this dress that had like a protest on it or something and she got slammed for going cuz again, even if you're like her, you're a populist. The I mean, I want to go to the Met Gala. I'm like, this would be amazing to get to dress up and it's like a fantasy and it's like you really get caught up in the fabulousness of it and it's like, oh my god, that would be amazing. and is and again he is a great-looking guy and his wife is beautiful and very fashionable and so people sort of are like you know there are other people saying he should go because he's fabulous and they'll be f but it's like you don't want to be caught up in that because first of all it is very Marianette in this moment when people can barely afford their rent and food like I'm not sure the Met Gala makes sense this year it's not like it raises money for the poor >> you know so it's like >> it supports the the like I said it support the money goes towards the Met the actual Met Museum, right? The Metropolitan Museum and so Metropolitan Museum, it goes towards that and that exhibit. That's where that money goes.

[00:56:44]And people will argue, well, art is important, fashion is important. Um, you know what I mean, to keep these things going um to support the arts, right?

[00:56:52]Kids need access to, you know, fine art and music and culture to help develop, you know, develop well as into adults.

They they are out here right now threatening to if you speak against the administration arrest you, deport you, harm your career, take away your grants.

[00:59:03]They're taking away all these arts grants that the federal government used to do because they don't like that they're black people in the documentaries. You can't get money anymore from foundations. So, it's like people also are like, "Maybe I'll just be quiet and don't say nothing." Or you're maybe you're like Michael Jordan.

[00:59:18]You're like, "Right-wingers buy shoes, too. I'm not going to say nothing because I want them to buy my Nikes."

[00:59:22]Everyone has their own individual politics. And we are no longer the people who did the Montgomery bus boycott. Sadly, the people who did the Montgomery bus boycott held together and were like, "We going to sacrifice together and we going to go hard for these bus."

[00:59:37]>> Not everybody did, right? That was like >> Not everybody did that either. 20% of the people or 25 of the people were like, "Y'all can keep that. I'm keep riding this bus. I'm going to work. I'm going to get my check." There were people who were not, they didn't want to risk what I don't want to speak for them and say they weren't aligned with the mission, right, the purpose. But there were circumstances where they couldn't participate. Think it was everybody who was black. It wasn't it was a small percentage of America of black Americans who were part of the civil rights movement. A very small percentage. I mean I just wrote a a whole book about this that Mega Evers was super frustrated that all these teachers which was the middle class profession in Mississippi. Most of the Jackson teachers would not join the NAACP. They were too scared. They didn't want you would get fired for joining the NAACP.

[01:00:28]It was their children. There's a reason that most protesters are teenagers or in their early 20s. That is who takes the risks. It is young people who do it because they don't have a mortgage. They don't have nobody. They don't have an insurance that could get cancelceled.

[01:00:43]They were literally taking people's business licenses away in Jackson if you join the NAACP. You had to be real strong, powerful, and independently financially successful in order to be a part of protest if you were an adult.

[01:00:56]But the kids was like, "We outside."

[01:00:58]Because they're like they're like we don't own nothing. We don't have nothing. Our future sucks. So we gonna get out there. It was the children who did it. That's why John Lewis was 22 and King was 24 and these were young people.

[01:01:09]If they had been in their 40s, girl, they weren't DOING THAT. THEY HAD A MORTGAGE. You know what I mean? They had a more the oldies were in the 30s and they were riding around with teenagers.

[01:01:18]It's why even the if you want to believe the American Revolution was somehow positive, they were in their early 20s.

[01:01:24]They were those people who did the American Revolution. They weren't 40.

[01:01:27]they were like 25, you know, it's people who are young. And so, right now, you're talking about a lot of established artists who are like, >> I need that next job in Hollywood. If I don't go to this, maybe I don't get cast and maybe I lose my livelihood and I'm first generational wealth and my mom, I'm paying her mortgage. So, I'm like, we need to start thinking we don't know what everybody's and some people also just shallow, want to get dressed up. We just don't know. [01:01:56]I that's why I have to say you got to look at the facts of, you know, before you're ready to just cancel somebody.

If you're not making new music, the only way you make money is touring. And the music industry is the most brutal financially of all. They cheated them girls. Remember when TLC was uh when uh Left I told you how little money they were making? when Tony Braxton was broke. We're talking about people who, you know, um um what's his name? Um um Flavor in Your Ear, Craig Mack was B R O K E with a number one hit and a Grammy nomination. No money had to borrow $100 from the Puffy. These people you you know who they are, but that don't mean they're rich. Don't assume that somebody So, some of these people tour out of necessity. They they would like to sit their ass down in their 50s, but they can't. We don't know. Some people, we just don't know. So you just I don't know that it's just No. And somebody's asking I said go killer did he? Hell no. I would go.

And so if you land a commercial like that and she was under her, you know, husband's management at the time and they were probably looking for financial opportunities because again people think the music industry makes you as rich as Beyonce. If you're Beyonce it does, but note that most musical artists have a sideline. They do hair products, skin products, makeup.

[01:13:14]They're doing all these things for ancillary income because most of musicians make their money touring, not through their contracts. Unless you're Taylor Swift and you can buy your your um what do you call [clears throat] them things if you can get your original uh copies of your music because most of the the music company owns them >> your masters.

Um, but a lot of people took issue with him kind of uplift lifting and memorializing this friend of his as opposed to treating him as someone who killed his wife and orphaned their children who had some allegations of, you know, sexual misappropriate behavior. Um, never convicted of anything but had some accusations. But there were some other things that have come out in court documents because the wife had filed for divorce. Um, and they were he was going to have to leave the house days after this crime was committed. I think she got full custody. I'm not certain on that. Uh, but they were breaking up and um and ending whatever they had. And you know, it ended how it ended. But I think, you know, a lot of black men cuz they're pushing back on this. Like they're standing too, they're like, "We should be able to focus on black men and their mental health." And, you know, they keep focusing on or a lot of them are focusing on that mentally he had some issues going on. Um, that this sexual harassment claims kind of derailed his career. people were saying, but in talking Okay, I hear you, but let's talk about this woman who was murdered and who did everything right. Right. When it comes to ending uh a marriage or, you know, she she was doing everything right by the book in the court system and she ends up murdered and her children, thank God he didn't kill the children who were at home time, teenagers. Um, you know, it's just so sad. But I do, you know, I stand with black women on this one in this divide that that that took place after that because it got pretty heated and and like if you depending on who you were following and you know, like on Roland's page, woo, child, that >> they let him have it, >> baby. They let him have it. Um, I did not chime in on all of that, but [laughter] because I feel how I feel, but I do feel that yeah, men need to really go over there and police themselves. You don't need to be on social media in support of this guy and sympathizing with this man and whatever he had been been going through when he just murdered his wife. Um, it really is, you know, I I I but they are they are doubling down on it, girl. They don't feel like they did anything wrong, these men.

[01:29:15]>> It's Yeah. And it And it's it's probably too soon. You know what I mean? It's like, but the thing is, I think that what we're like, if a friend of ours got accused of murder, you know, let's ask ourselves, what would you do? Like, if you knew somebody really well and they got accused of killing someone, whether they were male or female, like what would you do? You know what I mean? What would you do? What would you say? like what would what would be the right thing to say if you know somebody that got accused of murder would you initially say oh my god I knew them this doesn't sound like them at all and that's some people were saying that they got dragged for and then there were other ones who were like oh my god I'm so sad he must have been going through a lot if you know the person it's possible that that's something you say it this is one of those things where social media is not our friend cuz you may say that out of your mouth and think oh my god I knew this person how could it How could it be be be that? You don't have to say that online.

[01:30:12]>> As somebody just said in the in the chat, if my friend kills somebody, says Roz Jack, I'm not uplifting the friendship. F that friendship goodbye.

[01:30:19]But it's not even f that friendship goodbye. It's that your shock about your friend doing something is something that is, I think, very normal, right? You're like, I knew this person. I grew up with them. This person can't be a murderer.

[01:30:30]That's crazy. But I think the the thing about social media, it's made it feel like everything you think you need to say publicly on your social media.

[01:30:38]People have gotten into this thing where they feel like they need to express every thought in their head on and not every thought in your head needs to be online. And I think with with with Roland, that's where I feel like it's like everything you think where you're like, I can't believe my fat brother did d that could be in your spirit. It doesn't have to be on your page. And I think it was a really great life lesson that every that because objectively there's only one victim in this story.

[01:31:06]Two vict three victims.

[01:31:08]>> The wife Dr. Serena the dentist whose patients will now not have their dentist whose friends will not have their friend whose sisters if she had sisters and brothers whose parents lost their child.

[01:31:20]She's the victim. There's only one victim. It's not like there's two vict she's a victim and then the other victims are the kids. How do you kill your wife with your children in the house where they can see it? Where they can find the body? This is insane. Even killing yourself in the house with your kids where they could find your body.

[01:31:38]This was so cruel. This was a I almost want my kids to see this. This is insane. And so the idea that you could humanize somebody who could do that and then dragging in all the other things we know that there are factors in his breakdown. Everybody knows losing his reputation, losing his career, losing what would have been a rising stardom into the governor's mansion. We know that that was a factor in what happened.

[01:32:02]We know that he had to have had some sort of mental health breakdown. I mean, that's obvious. But at the end of the day, we don't do that with Charles Manson. We don't go, "Yeah, but Charles Manson, you know, he was raised by an abusive FAMILY AND HE'S STILL CHARLES MANSON." Like in the end, whatever happened in his life, he turned out to be Charles Manson, you know, and it's like, you know, we don't do that with that kid. What's the kid who went to um an a rally and shot two Black Lives Matter people and then went and cried on the stand and got acquitted. We don't go, yeah, well, you know, he was, you know, we don't go, well, you know, he was somebody's friend and they they can't believe that. No, if you Kyle Writtenhouse, we're not like, well, Kyle Writtenhouse, you know, they try to do that on the right with Kyle Written House, but they're like, well, you know, I mean, if you turn out to be a monster, you're still a monster. And the people who knew you, they have a right to feel how they feel about you, but that doesn't necessarily need to be lauded on their page. And so, that's what I would say is the only people we should be thinking about right now is those kids.

[01:32:57]It is absolutely insane that they have to live for the rest of their life knowing their own father killed their mother and left her body in the house where they could find it. That is absolutely. And where they could find his body >> and they left his body.

[01:33:10]>> Yeah.

[01:33:10]>> Who did he think was going to find the body? I'm like the the the was to me it was a sign that he wanted vengeance that the vengeance would be that the children would have to see the aftermath of whatever it is he's accusing her of.

[01:33:26]Whatever it is, he thinks he was doing this, whatever he snapped about it, something in his mind either didn't care that his kids would find the bodies or almost wanted them to find the bodies.

[01:33:37]It's absolutely horrible what this man did. And it it negates any empathy that people might have had when he was still alive for what he went through with those allegations about sexual misconduct.

[01:33:50]Forget that. That's wiped off the table because now we do know that whether or not you were a sexual abuser, you definitely was a murderer and cruel to your own children. That's for sure. Cuz you proved that yourself.

[01:34:03]>> Yeah. I mean, I think, you know, the the majority of women, I I want to say the majority, I don't know the exact statistical number, but the majority of women that are um victimized in domestic violence are that no that are murdered in domestic violence situations are women who have decided to leave or have just left. is like the overwhelming majority of the women who die are women in that situation.

[01:34:33]>> That's the most dangerous time in a woman's life.

[01:34:35]>> Dangerous time. Correct. Whether you you announce that you're leaving. Yes.

[01:34:39]>> Or you have just left and they're able to find you. And I believe in the situation with this couple in like I said, I think I did say that that she had filed for divorce. He was supposed to get out of the family homes days after like at the end of this month at the end of April he had to get out of the house. I don't know. I want to say she ended up with full custody. I don't know.

[01:35:03]>> There were some other you know things on the internet people were saying about his character and things like that. The point is, or the point I was trying to make is that, you know, and I get black men want to support each other and, you know, uplift each other during difficult times they're dealing with. So, they do they do need that.

[01:35:26]>> Yeah. But don't erase the fact that this woman >> uh that this man murdered this woman or is accused of mur you know what's going to happen that that he murdered this woman >> in cold blood with their children in the house because she had decided to leave >> and that there's this whole issue with the number one way that black women are dying is domestic violence >> is murder. Yeah. And it's not just him.

[01:35:51]It's this, you know, uh, Vice Mayor Medier in Florida whose husband is now the chief suspect. And then this horrific case in Shreveport, Louisiana, where this 31-year-old man, very young, only 31 years old, wiped out eight members of his own family, including his own mo most of his own children, killed his >> kids were his >> seven of the kids.

[01:36:15]>> Yeah.

[01:36:16]>> Yeah. and then and shot his two ex uh baby's moms who are both in critical condition. like what in the hell, you know?

[01:36:26]>> I've been posting some questionable things on social media before, but it just speaks to how women, you know, a lot of times uh a lot of women will get into relationships that are it doesn't start this way, but it turns abusive, especially after he's won over your trust and your compassion and you really care for him and you think he loves you.

[01:36:50]And that's the the there's hints of abuse before that, but that's when they really dig in and then they're sorry and they beg you to stay. And there's some reason that a lot of women feel like, well, he needs me.

[01:36:59]>> You know, I he doesn't mean to do it because they they tap into the love that they have for that person. And a lot of women are scared. There's so many reasons. It's like why they say that women don't leave.

[01:37:11]>> And you know, experts in this field will tell us all the time, don't even question it. Why didn't she leave? Why does she stay so long? There there it's circumstantial for so many women and it it really is not a great question to I had to learn that right and do research that you shouldn't ask you know because it's victim blaming.

[01:37:32]>> Yeah because a lot of women can't leave financially either. I mean in this situation that wasn't the case. She was the at this point she was the bread winner because he was unemployable after all those allegations. And the thing is you can see the mental breakdown from inside. So it's not even clear that she felt safe with him in the house. Where was the judge in this case to say, you know what, for your own safety, for for everyone's safety, maybe he should go right now and and and you know, remove him from the home. Like, it is really scary when people finally do make that break because that is, as you said, Jackie, when you're the most at risk of dying and you know, it it's it's hard for people to separate themselves, but some women in these situations stay because it's financial. I knew a couple, we grew up, when we were in Florida, that the couple were actually divorced, but they were still living under the same roof because we were soccer parents together. And we didn't realize that the couple were not married to each other until we invited them the the the kids to one of our kids' birthday parties.

[01:38:26]And so, they were all over the house.

[01:38:27]And the mom came but not the dad. And I was asking, "Oh, where's your husband?"

[01:38:30]And she said, "He's not my husband anymore. We're actually divorced, but because of finances, we can't afford to move out of we we can't afford to live separately. we still need the financial support of each other. So, they're literally divorced living under the same house. Now, I don't know if that's a in their case, it seemed to be fine. But if that breach becomes dangerous, she's stuck. They She already told me she's stuck. This woman was stuck. They had two kids. They could not afford either one of them to live alone because of the economy, you know, and so it's like we don't know what people's circumstances are, but clearly that the sister in Virginia was not saved. Medier was not safe. I think they were divorcing as well. And these babies in Shreveport, my god, how does your own father put a gun to in your face and shoot you? I just I can't even understand it. It's something going on. And it's not just our community because, you know, white folks are killing each other, too. But we're specifically talking about in the black community. There's some serious [ __ ] going on.

[01:39:29]>> The number one thing, like I said, that black women are dying of. So, I think it's worthy of us. I don't know what the number one thing that's killing white women, but for us it's intimate partners, right? That it's specifically that situation. So, it to me deserves to be talked about because >> we you know, you're just probably if you don't know someone, then someone you know knows someone who's in an abusive situation at this moment. And we need to learn the sign. I just did a video on on my page about, you know, no noticing the signs, but also moving in silence, not to not in the middle of an argument. To me, baby, pack listen.

[01:40:11]>> Pack yourself quietly on the side. Have your go bag ready.

[01:40:15]>> Have your go bag ready. Ready. Ready.

[01:40:18]Ready.

[01:40:19]>> You need to number one thing they say is you need to plan on it. And it may take you a year or something to plan. set aside money, but like she said, having a go bag, knowing where you're going, and there are resources out there to help women plan this stuff. You know, you just got to get to the point where you're ready. And that is on your terms.

[01:40:40]>> And Jen Pollock makes a point, we don't even track femicide. We don't because now we're under DEI, which means according to HHS Secretary uh Robert F.

[01:40:49]Kennedy Jr., We can't track any individual um individuated data. We can't have data about women, data about black people, data about people of color. And I do believe that it is true as somebody in the chat said that for white women, it is also the number one cause of of death is homicide. Um just as with children in our country, the number one cause of death is not measles, ms, and rebella, which is coming back. It's um uh um uh gun violence. So our children, so America is a country where wi women of all races mainly die due to being murdered by their partner and children mainly die by being shot.

[01:41:30]>> That's America right now. We are a country where our women and children are simply not safe and where to some folks in the chat made the point men are being really poorly acculturated. Like they're being told you have to be hyper masculine but also sensitive. you have to be you have the whole bread winner, but also you can't afford it. You and and so men are not being acculturated positively. And MAGA is making it worse cuz MAGA is this hyper masculine culture that says you need to own the patriarchy, but they can't afford to own the freaking they don't have the money to own the pat they don't have the resources. Even if a woman did want to be a tra, they can't afford that. And so there's this this manosphere is actually warping men even worse and making them more misogynistic, more angry, more enraged. And we have the most guns on earth. So you have more and more angry men who hate women in relationships with women and they have no real outlet to be conversational or sensitive because that's just not on with other men.

[01:42:27]They're not allowed to do that. So it's like it's they're like a ticking time bomb. A lot not all of them, but some of them are ticking time bomb and women are then getting in relationships with them.

[01:42:36]It's really scary.

[01:42:37]>> Well, I I agree with that 100%. But I also think that there's something that happens specifically in our culture with in the black community where we turn we we teach boys to uh to objectify women very young.

[01:42:57]>> Yes. You know, I was watching an old episode of Blackish from I think the first season and it was when the father and the the grandfather were trying to teach the oldest son how to do the head knot when he sees, you know, other black men and then also how to cat call, you know, women like he they were like, you know, they were looking at a woman and he was like, "Can I curse?" And someone was like, "Damn." And it was a funny moment and all of that is is fun, right?

[01:43:24]But when you think about I was walking down the street in Harlem one time and it was like a group of young boys. I mean they had to be like maybe 8 n 10 you know may maybe 9 10 11 something like that and they were cat calling me as I was walking by and over them. I was like what are you doing?

[01:43:44]>> Yeah. You know, we we teach and and it it all ties together. When men don't respect women, when they can't have a conversation with you without sizing up physically how your body is made or whether or not you have wrinkles on your face or whether you're pretty by their, you know, it it all comes into play. And so it's like we teach our boys to, you know, it's it's cool for them to have one or two girlfriends and, you know, it's cool for them to play the field.

[01:44:17]They learn all that. And as they're and as they're getting older, what you're training them to do >> is not respect women. So then when they go into relate, when they go to college, it's made worse, right? High school, college. And then when they get into society, >> you know what I mean? Women on the other hand are like, "You need to get married.

[01:44:36]I don't care who it is, get married, you know. So, you'reing from these men that may not have healed mentally or matured >> or developed their own sense of self-awareness to know that cat calling some woman on the street about how fine her ass is or you know it it starts but it starts there and we as a culture have to correct that. Like we have to let our boys know at a young age that you need to respect women. I saw this video on social media and I think I saved it. I have to look for it where this y this coach, I'll call him a coach, was teaching these young boys that were about the same age as the ones that were cat calling me. And he had a woman there with him and he was asking her, "Can I can I can I hug you?" And she kept saying, "No, no, no." And then she kind of reluctantly said, "Yes." And he went and hugged her. And he was asking these boys, he said, "Does she want did she want that hug?" And they were like, "No, >> no." like did she consent? No. He said but she said yes but why didn't she consent? Because of her body language.

[01:45:42]Like heing these young boys how to respect women as people, not as objects.

[01:45:51]Too many men, grown ass men still see us as objects.

[01:45:56]>> And they may not be ready to commit murder suicide, but that's where the sympathy, right? Are they cheating on their wives? You know, what are they doing that's disrespectful of women? You know, you might not be here, but it all ties together.

[01:46:12]>> Yeah.

[01:46:13]>> Respect for women. And that's why that, you know, Dr. Serena was not the focal point of so many stories, especially, you know, and and thoughts that were shared by men because that lack of respect for women.

[01:46:27]>> Well, I mean, look at who the president is. I mean, a lot of men actually liked that Donald Trump said he could grab women by the [ __ ] They actually thought that was cool. And there are a lot of women who thought it was cool, too. Look at the men who are uplifted.

[01:46:39]Right now, there's like a lookism. This looks maxing is like really popular where everybody's trying to be a Chad and they're like also worried about their own looks and it's become a thing where you have to be a Chad or other or you'll be an incel. No one will touch you. And how do you become a Chad? You have to have a chiseled jaw and you have to have a perfect body and you have to take oympics. you can be skinny and like they're making it a thing where this stereotypical man is the idealized man and they're all if you're a child, you know, those of us who are who are an adult, we can look at Donald Trump and see that he's an idiot. But if you're a kid, he's the president and you and you that is who people are saying that is presidential. a guy who has no respect for women, who calls um female reporters piggy, who tells them they're stupid, who's had babies with three different women, has kids with like he had three baby mamas and all these kids and and that's if you're a kid, is that who you're being told to look up to? Don't religious Christians are saying that is who Christ put on earth to rule this country. That is who Christians are telling their children God anointed to rule America. a threeb mama having serial cheater who has been civily adjudicated to have sexually abused a woman in a public store shoving her into a dressing room and putting his hand up into her into her vagina against her will. That's the president and he got 24 other women who said he did something similar to them and he walks around here like this man was in the Epstein files more often than Jesus was in the B named in the Bible. And Americans are Christians are literally loving and respecting him. And the only thing that finally makes them stop loving and respecting him is when he literally posts himself as Jesus. That's where like, well, THAT'S TOO MUCH. WHAT ABOUT THE Epstein files, right? So, I'm like, I don't know how anybody can expect a country that makes that creature president to respect women. The country don't respect women. And there are a lot of black men who voted for Trump. Not all, you know, only 20%. But you have a lot of brothers who like the vibe of Trump, even if they don't like Trump.

[01:48:36]They like the hip hop of Trump. They like the the brashness of Trump, even if they don't like Trump. So, we're constantly celebrating. Look at the brothers who are popular. It's not sensitive brothers, you know, who do men like? Black men. Who who do they like?

[01:48:49]They like, they don't like sensitive brothers, right? They like, you know, other than Denzel Washington, like it's very, and he's not even that sensit like his characters are not sensitive, you know? They, you know, we love Samuel L.

[01:48:59]Jackson. We like hardcore brothers. We like brothers that are macho and masculine. And so that kind of masculinity is uplifted across American culture, but in black culture in particular. And I think partly because emasculating black men was part of the enslavement process. You know, but breaking our men to make them afraid to be masculine because white men were so fearful that their masculinity would attract white women. And so this fear of black masculinity has all through the ages produced two kinds of black men.

[01:49:29]men who fight that by becoming hyper masculine and men that are sub sublimating some anger at losing the ability to just be openly masculine.

[01:49:38]Black men who are masculine are seen as scary, dangerous, threatening, and so they have this conflict of how are you supposed to be a man, you know, and we're acculturating them in all kind of [ __ ] up ways, you know. Um I hate to blame everything on slavery, but in this country kind of everything is [laughter] I kind of have to blame everything on slavery.

[01:49:58]>> It's sad. True. Yeah. But we are Listen, we love Roland. Um I I I I'm sure he will weather this storm. It's going pretty bad out there for him, but you know, he'll figure it out. He's been >> He'll figure it out.

[01:50:12]>> He'll figure it out. Okay, last but not least, we wanted to Joanne was like, "Okay, we got to end the show talking about Sterling K. Brown. She finally got around >> Speaking of a sensitive black man that's >> she finally got on to watching Paradise and who knew she would love it, me." uh which is why I had to harass her to watch it. Brown and what he said about this series in an interview that he it was important for him to have a chocolate brown woman and chocolate brown cheering >> that actually look like him which is something that he does in the projects that he's on. He's just I I adore >> and I think he was a co-executive producer of the film and so when he brought when >> he's an executive producer paradise yeah he's >> Yeah. Paradise. And so he came in as an executive producer and was like he had a lot of, you know, um, you know, say in the casting and it was important to him that his love interest was cast as a chocolate brown woman that looks, like you said, that looks like him, that's his complexion because he's aware of the sort of light casting that happens in Hollywood where the women who get cast as leads tend to be the lighter complexion women. Even in black um focused and black themed shows and movies, it's still the very very light actress that's always the lead romantic interest. And it's very rare for a dark complexion woman, a brown a brown sister to actually get the chance to be a lead.

[01:53:08]And so he was very very intentional about making sure that he cast um the the actress he did as his wife. And I thought that was so great. And his real wife in real life is also brown. And um I just absolutely Ryan Beth Michelle who we love who's an actress in her own right and I just want to say because now since you're listening to me this is good >> I had time to do this [laughter] you need to listen watch and listen to their podcast we don't always agree >> it is one of the best things on this planet because you get to hear about the origin of how they met because they met back at Stanford right okay students there so you hear how they were on again off again through you know and reason why he moved to LA was to follow her after they had broken up. Like it's so much great stuff, but also there's a story like there's a great paternal story with one of them that will have you saying what? Like [laughter] I was like y'all need to create a a series a scripted series based on your life because they've been together like almost 20some years.

I've heard and now that I've seen Sterling K. Brown it is. I'm like, "Yeah, I'm gonna watch everything he's ever been."

[01:55:27]Because it was on NBC.

[01:55:28]>> I got rid of Peacock when they fired me [laughter] cuz I didn't get for free no more. I used to get I'm like, "I'm not paying for this [ __ ] I got that for free." But they broke up with me. When Miz now broke up with me, I broke up with her, too. I SAID, "OKAY, YOU WANT TO BREAK IT WITH ME, [ __ ] I'm getting rid of your peacock. How about that?"

[01:55:45]>> Oh my god. Oh, >> it was free. They were giving it to me for free. It's like if it's not free, I don't want it. [laughter] >> Well, I will say this that that brings up, you know, we were talking earlier about things being nuanced in context.

[01:55:59]Remember when M MSNBC let Tiffany go, but your black ass remained and a lot >> people were like, you need to STORM OUT OF THERE AND I WAS LIKE come over and pay my mortgage.

[01:56:12]>> But black people did what? They watched your show. They were like, >> "Oh, they were gonna listen." They were gonna cancel MSNBC when they when Melissa left and they tried to tell me, "My boss, Phil Griffin, said, "Joy, I need you to take over that show." And I was like, "You take over the show.

[01:56:27]They're not coming for me." Because the blacks were like, "Anyone who sits in Melissa get >> Well, twice. Twice.

[01:56:34]>> They will get me.

[01:56:36]>> You have been in a situation where MSNBC did a black woman wrong and you remained. And while everybody could have been like, "F that. I I ain't support.

The post the cuz she posted it with that song I'm scared.

She posted it with that song like me and her with that group with the two with them, right? Cuz you know she's a lightkinned girl. I'm a darkkinned girl. So it was kind of thematic. Baby, that thing went viral. I got in so much trouble when I got back. IT WAS LIKE, "HOW ARE YOU HAVING brunch with her after she quit?"

[01:58:33]And I was like, "You can't tell me who to be friends with." But after that, >> and they did her a favor by telling you to take this position >> and then taking the job, people blessed it. When I got back, I had her fans supporting me because she blessed it.

So that's uh >> I just want to circle back and underline the fact [laughter] that that situation in both cases was a opportunity for people to show you grace given the context of you taking a job and not shutting down a whole network after they fired Tiffany.
