Welcome back here to a Thursday night, 11:34 p.m. California time. Thursday, July 23rd, 2026. Friday, right around the corner. I mean, we can't complain.
Friday is right there at our fingertips.
Latest activity shows a 2.1 earthquake here on the globe. uh looks like across the uh northern California area inland uh ways away from the petroleia station there. That's probably why it's not picking it up. This is up above the uh Lake Orville area way up there kind of in the foothills here of the Sierra Nevada mountains. A 2.1 one of the latest quakes there on the map. I'm just looking to see if it maybe it picked it up there on the petroleia station, but I don't see it. Anyway, I did revise the uh Earth Master Explorer, added quite a few new features here to this app uh favorites uh a certain mode here if you want to use HTTP mode or the seed link which is a live stream viewer to all the seismograph stations. Uh also waveform colors which is really cool as well. You can change that from uh you know many different colors. If you like a certain color for the waveforms, you can change that as such there. uh and also a tsunami statement uh potential here for this app. So, it's just getting going, folks. Uh I'm really super excited.
Quite a few folks messaging me on this as well, offering up to 100 bucks for the app. Pretty crazy. Um but this is a long ways off from being released to the public, but it is uh in the works here.

Send me that email. and you'll be on the list here. All right, so we got a little earthquake there in Northern California. Um the Cascadia subduction zone here offshore. I'm going to remove these these uh the charts here. These default systems, they're crazy. They're way too prominent on the map and they're a big distraction. I really hope they fix that. Um so we'll just keep it on the plate boundaries for now unless we need to investigate a certain area. Uh but earlier today, yeah, 4.2 too well off the coast of Oregon out there along the Blanco fracture zone just off of it but south here further along that strike slip boundary and that's the area we have to watch because we've seen a couple earthquakes up north here along the the fracture zone the general stress model points down in this area I'll show you guys the last seven days here there was a cluster of earthquakes up here previous to today's events right the general stress here along the strike slip boundary of the Blanco fracture zone zone heads down in this general fashion. And this earthquake just confirms what I've been saying all along to watch the southern end of the Cascadia as that pressure builds up here further into the southern area of the Cascadia. Also, one event down here along the Gorder uh Gorda ridges here or Gorda plate, excuse me. It's actually the Gorda plate and the Pacific plate boundary. A little earthquake here uh this evening as well, 3.1. So, what do you think uh the trimmer counts are looking at? I haven't even checked this out tonight, so I you're the first to see along with me. Let's see what we got here. Uh 30. Okay. And it's not even well somewhat southern end of the Cascadia underneath the southern coast of Oregon. So, still roughly around that area. 30 epicenters of slow slip events.
I thought it would actually be a little bit more elevated considering all the activity here recently, but uh the stress is still building up out there across the southern end of the Cascadia.
Couple smaller events there across Washington, including around the Mount St. Helens area. Got uh three or four earthquakes there this morning. So, on that note, we better double check the um Mount St. Helens seismograph stations here. And that's something else I can add there onto the live viewer as far as the live seismograph stations go. Uh but we'll double check the recorded uh view here and see what's being uh see what's happening there at Mount St. Helens. I do see one distinct earthquake there. Uh maybe a a couple of them actually. It looks like I think what we need to do here is go back one day to see that earthquake activity in question here that they actually reported this morning about 9:00 or so in the morning.
Oh, actually it looks like there's a little swarm going on here. So, they're reporting uh two earthquakes there at a 0.9 and a point 8 at 8:21 and 9:27.
So, the 927 one is going to be probably this one here.
Uh, the 8201, a little 0.9 is going to be this one. But, you know, I'm not a rocket scientist here, but if they're pointing out two earthquakes, what about all these other ones here? Do you guys see that? I I I'm not blind and I I don't think I'm seeing things here.
But if they're going to point out two earthquakes, what about all these other earthquakes showing up here on the seismograph station here at Mount St. Helens? There's a swarm going on is what's what's happening. And uh you know, I've always said they're only going to report a fraction of the activity that's actually taking place.
So instead of two or three earthquakes, we probably got about oh, I don't know, good 30 or 40 of them going on there at Mount St. Helens uh here in the last 24 hours. So those are indeed earthquakes.
They're not ice quakes. Those are uh not thunderstorms, not the wind. These are distinct localized events there at Mount St. Helens. And uh I would say they're swarming right now. But we can double check the uh um inflation model there at the Mount St. Helens graph here real quick and see if there's any uh unusual lifting up of the dome. Right up at the dome. We can double check here. This is uh well that's 2017. That does absolutely no good. 2026 we're going down. Still going down. We've been going down for a number of years here. This is a vertical displacement. Notice that it's downtrending indicating deflation and it's subsiding quite a bit. So that could be why we're seeing a little bit of earthquake activity, not because of inflation, but because of deflation.
But there's a swarm going on nonetheless.
San Francisco. Uh, another earthquake there on the Hayward fault. It looks like a 2.1 that Oops. Let's go back to the faults here. This is the second earthquake out here.
Um, in the last couple days, yesterday we had a 2.7 here on the southern end of the Hayward fault. Today, 2.1 a little bit further up north here. So adjustment is trying to take place there on that majorly overdue fault system. And I I say that overdue with a distinct tone because that is indeed what needs to be said about the Hayward fault. That's one of the prime faults across the Bay Area that's overdue and that is capable of producing a large damaging earthquake there across a major populated density there of the East Bay. So we do have to watch that. That's past its reoccurrence interval.
Little earthquake there off the San Andreas fault as well this evening. Um let's see what else we got south. Let me remove these. It just man I don't know anybody else think of this is just too much far as the lines go. I just can't handle it. It's something about it just bugs me. I love looking out fall systems but not like that.
Uh a trail of earthquakes here across the Garlock fault. um shear zone.
Let me see what we got here for 2.5.
Most of the activity there in that swarm of activity there across the Broly seismic zone. We're up to about 54 earthquakes. We did have another 3.2 early this morning. A couple other ones.
I'm watching that area closely. I do have uh the China Lake station here, which is probably about the closest um um seismograph station there that can pick up the data. I think I can probably get up. China Lake sits up north here. I could probably pick up something a little bit closer. Um, so I'll have to add that here onto the um onto the live seismograph station. But uh earthquake swarming there looks like it may have tapered off a little bit, but there's still quite a bit of activity there uh that may not be uh being reported. Look at that line of activity stretching there across the Garlock fault. maybe over towards the Malibu Coast fault.
It's following that uh path there quite nicely.
Uh Utah got a little swarm going on out here near Circleville. Quite a few earthquakes in the one and two range.
Nothing big going on, but an increasing pressurization there across the entire western portion of the North American plate here, at least the states. Little earthquake there about 1.9 western Yellowstone. By the way, I do have a Yellowstone station up here that we're monitoring. Maple Creek. I do think that's very important we watch Yellowstone as well for the earthquake swarming that may take place. Uh we're going to double check the Yellowstone overview here real quick. See what we have here on this uh wonderful Thursday evening. They're they're going to be a little slow for whatever reason. The volcano sites out here for the USGS, they taper down their network. They throttle them down. They throttle the speed down a little bit for the public.
whatever or I don't I don't understand the reasoning. Let's check out this YML station here. There's that uh little earthquake there this afternoon and I believe the USGS showed that about 1224 for a 1.9. Decent size event shown up on the seismograph station. Not a big earthquake, but it's a well distinct signature there. And as you can see, really nothing since or before then. So pretty quiet. But, uh, I do like it when the seismograph stations are working properly. There's that five-pointer down there in, uh, Texas panhandle area of the oil fields. That's, uh, the only earthquake out there today. No aftershocks.
Uh, it does sit within a major oil field operation out there or with within the vicinity of it. Quite a few of these checkered boxes here indicating oil pumping operations. So, far as any increasing pressure across Texas, uh it does look like a little activity north here, north of Midland, northeast of Midland, uh 3.9. This is outside of well, Snider to the southwest here.
There's just lots of oil fields and and subsequently lots of windmills. They're all energy producers out here. This activity is stirred up here following the five-pointer is out in quite a few oil fields out there. As you can see here on the map that mentioned it and also on the satellite view, all these little checkered boxes out there. I see them all the time when I'm out there stormchasing.
Uh, New Madrid seismic zone quiet for now. There's a cluster of activity down there across the Guatemala and Mexico area. These are all aftershocks from the 7.3 few days ago here a number of days ago.
So largest magnitude here in the last 24 or 24 hours goes to a 5.8 Muca Sea area Indonesia region. Um far as any further migration northward there from that 5.8.
See what we got. There's a little bit of newer sequence of events here across the Philippines mainly in the three range.
But for now, the quiet zone there across Taiwan, Japan, into the Curl Cam Chaka Trench. Pretty quiet uh newer event there across the Illusian Trench with a five-pointer.
Getting a little swarm of activity here.
Couple fives stirring up there along that area of the subduction zone. A mega thrust area. Really hope these guys fix their map here. I think if we if we complain enough, if we get a public outcry here, get enough people messaging the USGS, I guarantee you this will be switched back within a couple days. So, um, the USGS contact list is easily accessible. Just go to their USGS page and, uh, kind of voice your opinion out here. I do like the fact that they're showing, you know, plate boundary types out here, but man, you know, it's these right here that are just when you go in to zoom in here across a certain area that just they're well defined, but too well defined. And there's no hover over anymore. We don't get to know what fault system that is. You know, before you could hover over the San Andreas fault, the creeping section, the Parkfield section. Now, you know, it doesn't do that. So, I think whoever's in charge of this really needs to uh take a look at this and either revert it back to how it was or implement the new code that would further um make this a little bit more more appreciable, more viewable for the public. Right now, it's just it's crazy looking. Not very beneficial whatsoever.
Let's see what else we got out here across the uh planet. New Zealand, couple threes down there. Nothing big.
There's a 4.2 coming in across the papagina area right now.
Rest of the c rest of the uh planet out here. Looks pretty quiet.
So things are stirring up. I do think we need to watch the west coast, North American plate there. A lot of inland pressure hitting the oil fields. lot of activity there across the Cascadia or within the vicinity of the Cascadia. So just be on guard far as the uh big island of Hawaii, the beautiful big island. See what we got here for the deformation data of Kilawa volcano that shows us that we're still on the inflation side. Going up, going up.
We're almost almost at the level here observed in episode 51. So pending this further uh intensifies without any stationary or deflationary activity, we'll see the eruption happen here uh rather soon, maybe in the early stage of their window, which is around the 25th to the 29th. Thinking maybe around the 25th or so, pinning we don't get any deflationary events. So watch for that.

The flare chart, we're up in the CF flare category to C1.8.
Nothing major going on as you can see here across the solar flux detection chart. Uh, this sunspot right here is a source of many M flares and C flares here recently. But, uh, yeah, I don't know about you guys, but I I think it's starting to weaken a little bit.
Notice the complexity here of the center portion there. Yeah, there's still some, but the core colors are not that deep anymore, indicating that uh uh the strength of the magnetic complexity. So, it almost looks like it's weakening. I do think though that we still have a somewhat of a decent flare threat from that sunspot.
All these other ones out here, now this one may be starting to develop a little bit further. Uh this is an older sunspot that was out here oh a number of times on the merrygoround. I don't know how many times the sunspots been out here, but uh looks like there's a little bit of complexity here within the center portion of that. Not too concerned with that region out there on the eastern limb. So we'll watch 4494 here and 44 93. The overall flare threat consists at a 10% chance there for Xflare. Although I think this is dropping a little bit uh because of that uh sunspot there losing its complexity. Uh right now 10% chance there for Xflair, Mflair at 55, Cflare at 99.
Um aurora activity was stirring up a little bit earlier today. Uh that has since been suppressed.
The speed still somewhat elevated at 573 kms a second. Uh the BZ component though uh it does look like it's uh way above the zero line here indicating positive territory at a plus 2.2. That completely suppresses any aurora activity even though we have high-speed solar windream ramping up. That uh is not favorable there for any aurora viewing whatsoever.
So uh it looks like that's going to stay that way for the remainder of the night.
Storm Prediction Center for your Friday.
Slight risk up there across the Dakota area, North Dakota specifically and portions of uh Minnesota. It looks like, let's see, a little 2% chance here for some tornado activity. The main threat, a little bit of wind, but hail, large damaging hail there is a potential for your Friday thunderstorm forecast. So, just a heads up there. If you're out at work or driving around, you know, if if you like your vehicle like I like mine, I don't like dents in it. I don't like scratches. I try to keep my truck my car pristine and nicel looking. I that's just how I am. I like to take care of my stuff. Uh so, just watch your vehicle out there and park it in a safe spot.
All right, folks. Um I'm going to call it. Like I said, uh this is just a uh uh a work in process here. I got over a hundred requests here for the Earth Master Explorer when it's released to the public. Those folks are the first that will get to know that it's available. Um I haven't figured out an exact price. Um but it will be in the works. I have a lot more work to do on this. Uh but there's different features I'm adding at the moment. just simplified buttons up here. The tsunami threat is green right now. Uh this will be in the app. If there is a tsunami watch warning or advisory that's issued, this will light up flashing and all you'll do is click on it like I just did right now and it will take you to the latest tsunami um statement here. This obviously there's nothing going on, but this was the latest tsunami statement there from the tsunami.gov website. So, a little uh integrated feature there. I'm probably going to add also a uh PNS network trimmer map up here. Keep uh keep tabs on the trimmer counts out here. But uh I also added man a a big huge library of networks out here that can monitor seismograph stations anywhere you can think of on the planet. Um so that's a big huge upgrade as well. And also another feature I like is the time frame here. If you just want to see the last five minutes of data or if you want to see um last 30 seconds, 10 minutes, 20 minutes, that's my options for right now. I have the option to go higher and I may include that just to cover um you know, maybe if someone wants to go back within the last hour and see an earthquake that struck up on the on the waveform, they have the option to do that. But this is just just examples right here right now. So, um, and it's still running off the Python network.
It's not an executable file, but once I'm done with everything, every single thing, then it will be an exe executable file. But yeah, anyway, we got a little earthquake there coming into the Kagoshima, Japan seismograph station right now. Looks like on the BHZ station. I believe that's a vertical station there. Uh, let's go see what we got.
USGS probably going to be slow to report on that. Uh, let's see. EMSC reporting anything yet? Nothing yet.

I mean, technically it would show up in the globe as well, but there's an earthquake. And remember, this is live.
This is the seed link, which is straight live data from the seismograph stations.
you know, you have the option to go a different route with the HTTP, which kind of uh it pulls the FDN FDSN network, which is it still works, but it's a little bit slower. It's not completely live like we're seeing right now. Uh but it's an option if if maybe some of these other stations aren't directly linked up to the seed link. Uh but yeah, there's a little earthquake there. I mean, it's getting there. Also notice I've added a favorite station. So I'm going to add um the Kagoshima station here for favorite.
That's one of my favorites. Also Petroleia in Northern California is a favorite station. Uh Parkville definitely.
Um China Lake in Southern California definitely as well. We'll just add all these right now just to give you an example of how the favorites work out here. Maple Creek and Yellowstone and Canada that I can find a different station than that. Uh but when you click up here on the favorite station, voila, there's all your stations. So instead of going to the network and adding all manually readding all these stations, you can just go to your favorites folder and and click, you know, which ones you want to kick uh kick up here. So I I think that's a huge improvement. I do like that.
