Management Information System (MIS) is a system that converts raw data into valuable information to support management decision-making at three organizational levels: strategic level (top management like Chairman and Board of Directors who need futuristic information for goal-setting and strategy creation), tactical level (middle management who implement policies and coordinate between levels), and operational level (supervisory staff who handle day-to-day activities). An effective MIS should be comprehensive (covering all departments), integrated (sharing data across systems), modular (allowing easy adjustments), provide accurate and relevant information, be flexible, ensure selective sharing of information to the right people, centralize data, and be technology-based. However, MIS has limitations including dependency on input quality (garbage in, garbage out), inability to replace human judgment and intuition, lack of flexibility for changing situations, and dependence on company culture.
