And you kind of seemed like you were a little busy, >> man. You know, the guys in the shop are going to see this. We're gonna be getting a soft serve machine pretty soon.

[00:01:04]On today's video, we're actually doing a completion of a previous video that's going to be down in the description. So, we built this truck as kind of like almost like a cabin chassis kind of deal.

[00:01:14]>> Only that part, the front part right there.

[00:01:17]>> Exactly. And then it came up here to Null's Record Service in Pennsylvania.

[00:01:35]>> We're just like We're like uh 20 minutes from Lancaster. That gives you guys any idea. Beautiful country up here. But more importantly, we're going to flip the camera around. We're going to show you this finished uh big ride right here. The thing turned out really cool.

[00:01:53]>> Good. Good. Oh, I heard you keep calling this thing a wrecker. This is actually a tow truck. We don't wreck stuff.

[00:01:58]>> So, >> tow truck. I think we we discussed this in the last video.

[00:02:04]>> Tow truck. Okay. So, today we're going to be talking about this tow truck that is pristine, not wrecked.

[00:02:10]>> It's beautiful.

[00:02:12]>> Um, give me the rundown. So, like if you guys are watching this video and this is the first time you've seen a video on this truck, uh, at the end of this video, we're going to link the first video where this was in Tennessee at our shop and basically we did some some nice touches and some add-on things and uh, did some interior work to it. All that's in that video. And then came here because this is your guys' business.

[00:02:38]Y'all y'all run a record service and you build records and sell them. Tow trucks.

[00:02:44]>> Golly.

[00:02:46]>> Yeah. So, we picked the chassis up from semi-casual a few weeks back. Um, they did a lot of dress up work on it and then our team here installed the NRC body. It is a 40tonon composite slider.

[00:03:03]>> And I learned about this earlier, the slider. And and the whole boom can move back almost the entire length of this body.

[00:03:11]>> Correct. the mast, the boom, the winches, everything slides from up here all the way back.

[00:03:17]>> Okay, >> that gives you more reach out the back.

[00:03:20]It also gives you a better mechanical advantage when you're doing heavy lifts.

[00:03:24]>> And so the boom extended, how far out does that extend?

[00:03:28]>> So all the way out the back at 0 degrees is 24 feet.

[00:03:32]>> Okay.

[00:03:33]>> And then all the way up is just shy of 26 feet.

[00:03:38]>> Okay. And that's that's with the boom forward or back?

[00:03:41]>> That is slid back.

[00:03:42]>> Slid back. Okay.

[00:03:44]>> And then the slide on this probably looks to be about 10 10 to 12 foot.

[00:03:48]>> 12 foot. Yeah, >> 12 foot.

[00:03:49]>> Yep.

[00:03:51]>> And what's the what's the uh what's the the weight capacity? I'm guessing. Is this going to give you any kind of that information here?

[00:03:59]>> Yeah. So, this is the load chart. The numbers in white are in pounds.

[00:04:03]>> Okay.

[00:04:04]>> So, all the way in and all the way up.

[00:04:08]Mhm.

[00:04:08]>> You're good for 91,000 lbs.

[00:04:11]>> Okay.

[00:04:11]>> Which is obviously more than 40 tons, >> right?

[00:04:14]>> So, yeah.

[00:04:16]>> And this is kind of a cheat sheet. So, if the operator's like looking at something, he's like, "Well, I can I'm I'm okay in this space."

[00:04:23]>> Yeah. Like, if you're doing a lift and you, you know, the weight of what you're lifting, you you can figure out, okay, say you're lifting, you know, 20,000 pounds, you can look here and say, "Okay, well, I'm good the whole way out through here.

[00:04:38]Mhm.

[00:04:39]>> that you're not overloading the boom.

[00:04:41]>> That's pretty cool.

[00:04:43]>> So, I want to go over everything from front to back because when we first got here, y'all had all the doors open and this thing's rigged out. It's pretty neat. There's There's a lot of toys in there.

[00:04:52]>> Yeah, I guess you call it.

[00:04:53]>> Yep.

[00:04:55]>> In the tunnel box here, we did some custom fabrication work.

[00:04:59]>> Um, our team added these hooks for the round slings.

[00:05:03]We built the divider walls under the shelf. gave some more storage bracketry.

[00:05:10]Uh the snatch blocks are mounted.

[00:05:14]>> And this is typical like a guy picks up a truck, buys a truck from you guys, and they want it fully rigged out with all the pieces they need. That way, it's kind of like put your name, DOT number on it, it's ready to go to work.

[00:05:24]>> Yeah. Typically, when we sell a truck, it when it leaves here, it could go to work on its way home.

[00:05:29]>> Yep. And we've actually had customers that on the way home they've got called for accidents and their brand new truck shows up at the scene of an accident and goes to work.

[00:05:37]>> That's kind of nice. You make money on your way home.

[00:05:39]>> Yeah, absolutely.

[00:05:40]>> The um so on these slings I noticed that you've got red, blue, and orange. Is that a weight rating situation?

[00:05:46]>> It is. Yep. Each color is like a different uh size sling. You can see the diameter of them is >> obviously different. And we actually have our own line of slings. So, >> oh, nice. This even got your logo on it.

[00:06:01]That's pretty cool.

[00:06:03]>> That's awesome. So, that's this side.

[00:06:05]And you've got plenty of room. You can put other stuff in here.

[00:06:07]>> Correct.

[00:06:08]>> This box is huge.

[00:06:09]>> Yeah, they have room to expand.

[00:06:10]>> And you've got other We'll see that side in a minute, I guess.

[00:06:14]>> And this box here is all of your forks and bracketry for different hookups. Uh, every manufacturer truck is a little bit different. you know, different style front axles, whether it's air ride or a conventional beam.

[00:06:31]>> Same thing with the rear. You have all kinds of different rear suspensions. So, you need a ton of different forks to be able to tow whatever you need to tow >> cuz you're going to put this this is what's going up. This is the cradle sets the axle in place.

[00:06:43]>> Correct. This would be for like an air ride Hendrickson front axle.

[00:06:46]>> Okay.

[00:06:46]>> This would be your standard beam axle.

[00:06:50]>> What are the What are the plates for here? So, these are axle caps and then these are the gaskets for the caps. So, if you have to pull the axles to tow the truck, >> you can put them on and it seals it and keeps it from blowing a wheel all over the place while you're towing it.

[00:07:04]>> That's pretty cool. And you got a your tail light bar, >> wireless light bar. Yep.

[00:07:08]>> And is it charging right now? I notice it's plugged in.

[00:07:11]>> So, it charges in the charger while it's not in use.

[00:07:13]>> You're never going to get there and be like, I didn't take that out and plug it in last night. Yep.

[00:07:17]>> That's awesome.

[00:07:19]And this entire body, this thing's this aluminum or is it composite?

[00:07:22]>> It's composite. Okay. Yep.

[00:07:25]It's >> composite. And then like on this truck, it has the option of the extruded aluminum paneling, which gives you all kinds of options for mounting your brackets.

[00:07:35]>> This be the only way to do it.

[00:07:36]>> Yeah. You don't have to drill holes into the body, and then six months from now, you decide, I don't like that. Well, now you got random holes in the body. On this, you just move the panels and you're good to go.

[00:07:46]>> That's pretty neat. And then over here, I'm guessing is like the command center.

[00:07:51]>> Command command center is the next one back.

[00:07:53]>> Okay.

[00:07:54]>> So, these are shackles for your lifting straps, which we'll see on the other side. Then just different >> uh tie down straps for securing stuff. A lot of times we go out and flip over a tractor trailer and the trailer is blown apart and we got to strap it all together to get it back to the yard safely. And yeah, >> because y'all I mean Yeah, that's something else to bring up, guys. So, like while they build trucks, um they run a lot of trucks, which there's going to be another video coming out about the trucks they run in the business side, but it's kind of nice if you're buying a record and you wanted to get it loaded out. You guys can give them real world like this is stuff we know we always need and you've got you've got good advice, which is >> So, we actually a lot of times when we're specking a truck for a customer, we have a rigging package that is what we run in the trucks in our fleet. Yep.

[00:08:44]>> And we'll send that over to the customer and say, "Hey, here's what we run." And it gives them something to base off of.

[00:08:49]Like if they've never completely outfitted a brand new truck, it's easy to forget, oh, I need these straps or I need these chains. Because it's not something you do all the time, whereas >> we do it.

[00:08:58]>> And when you forget, you forgot it.

[00:09:00]>> Then you need it. You're in the middle of the road and you have something flipped over, you don't have the strap you need. You kind of look like a clown.

[00:09:06]>> Yep. Yep.

[00:09:08]>> Cool. And then this is controls.

[00:09:10]>> This is This is the command center.

[00:09:14]So, this truck has proportional controls.

[00:09:18]Um, everything is electric over hydraulic.

[00:09:22]It has your free spools for your winches are right here. They can be worked from either side.

[00:09:29]>> It also has a proportional full function remote.

[00:09:33]>> How far away will that work?

[00:09:34]>> Uh, as long as you can see the truck, it'll work.

[00:09:36]>> That's nice. Okay.

[00:09:37]>> Yeah. Yep. Um, so this remote you can run every function on the truck. You can work your winches, which are colorcoded to the synthetics.

[00:09:46]You've got your boom up and down, your boom in and out, your slider, your under reach, your outrigger legs, your two-speed winches. You can actually release the winches from the remote.

[00:09:59]>> Wow.

[00:10:00]>> And you can start and stop the truck from the remote.

[00:10:02]>> That's really cool. So, I noticed on on the winch lines here with your controls, you've got an orange, a blue, a green, yellow, and red.

[00:10:12]>> Yes.

[00:10:13]>> Will you explain that because that's probably a one of the cooler features I've noticed with this.

[00:10:17]>> Yeah. So, this truck actually has four winches. Um, if you're out on a recovery and you're working with different people from your team and you know, they're down over the bank hooking to the truck and you're up here running the truck and they say, "Tighten up the winch line."

[00:10:33]Well, this truck has five different winches on it. How do you know which one to tighten up? Now, they can say, "Tighten up the yellow line, and it's yellow. It's actual yellow synthetic winch line."

[00:10:44]>> Y, >> it has a yellow at the end of the boom at your sheave guide. It's labeled yellow at your controls, both at the truck and on the remote. So, there's no confusion. If they say going on the left winch, was that my left or your left?

[00:10:59]There's all like if you're doing that stuff, it's a little bit stressful and there's multiple people and you're kind of and things are moving fast.

[00:11:05]>> And so that that takes a ton of guesswork and that's probably >> one of the best safety things I've ever seen. Absolutely. In terms of like like you said, you're like one guy's telling you you're looking over this way or >> you're working it >> way over here and the truck's over there and you can't see exactly what it is and you people get hurt, right?

[00:11:24]>> This makes communication way better. And a lot of times we're assisting in extrications. Just last night we were out on a accident and we were assisting with an extrication. And there you're working with >> people from the fire rescue that you maybe never worked with before in your life and like they're trying to tell you what they need done and there again they can say >> take the yellow, >> take the yellow, take the red. It it takes any guesswork out of >> out of it. Yep.

[00:11:49]>> Um that's another one. How new has this synthetic winch thing been going around?

[00:11:55]cuz you know like I had tow trucks when I was in my 20s and that was unheard of.

[00:12:00]They didn't have anything.

[00:12:00]>> So So we've been running it on our rollbacks since roughly 2010. So almost 16 years.

[00:12:07]>> Okay.

[00:12:07]>> On our heavies we've been running it for about 10 years.

[00:12:12]>> Okay. So that is this whole side of the truck. Let's go over and check out the other side.

[00:12:16]>> Sounds good.

[00:12:17]>> We're now standing at the back of the truck on the the boom side, the business side.

[00:12:22]>> Yeah.

[00:12:22]>> This is the part that makes you the money. That's right. So, this truck has a four stage short axle lift. And what that means is this folds down >> and then it comes out. There's four sections.

[00:12:36]>> Yep.

[00:12:37]>> And that gives you extra reach to reach out if you're towing like a fire truck with the axles way back or a motor home or something like that. It gives you the reach to be able to get a hold of what you need to to safely tow it.

[00:12:48]>> And this is and you can you can operate this with the uh with a wireless remote as well.

[00:12:53]>> That's correct. So you get you back up to the truck and you need to move an inch this way. You're not going back here and pushing buttons and you get the truck close and do the rest then suck it in where you need it and everything.

[00:13:03]>> Correct. And this this truck's equipped with multiple backup cameras which makes it a lot simpler hooking up. You can see exactly what's going on right behind you while you're hooking up.

[00:13:13]>> And I notice all the legendary blue like we when we did the truck we had the legendary blue fenders. Um, and then you all tie the legendary blue in on different hook points, uh, your big winench, the boom, all that stuff. It looks really sharp and the paintwork is awesome.

[00:13:29]>> Yeah, it ties everything together nicely. Makes it look like they were meant to be together, which they were.

[00:13:34]>> Yep. That's cool. And then down here, we've got uh landing gear.

[00:13:38]>> Yeah. So, they're they're uh outriggers.

[00:13:41]On this truck, it has actual extendable rear outriggers, which is kind of not normal for a straight stick tow truck.

[00:13:49]Um, it's you usually see that on a rotator, but this customer wanted that option and it'll definitely make the truck more versatile.

[00:13:56]>> It if you've got something where you're putting a you're picking up a lot of weight and you can get these further out, it makes it more stable.

[00:14:02]>> Well, they come straight down. Okay. And what that does is if you're picking something off the back, normally your teeter point's going to be your back axle, >> right?

[00:14:11]>> Whereas if you put them down, that's where you're going to start to teeter if it would teeter. So it gives you it cuts down your overhang a lot.

[00:14:19]>> Okay.

[00:14:21]>> And then now we've got all these boxes open up. So um on this side we've got same set of controls.

[00:14:28]>> Yeah, this is an exact duplication from the other side. All the same functions, all your lighting, everything is the same from side to side.

[00:14:36]>> I like this. I notice y'all got the uh Milwaukee charger mounted on here because you're going to have Milwaukee impact.

[00:14:42]>> Impacts. Yeah.

[00:14:42]>> And you can just grab a battery. Yep.

[00:14:44]That's >> absolutely. They're always charged.

[00:14:46]>> Yep. That's really nice.

[00:14:49]>> We got straps.

[00:14:50]>> Yeah, this box we have the straps uh lifting straps for uprighting overturned vehicles or whatever you need to do. um load shifts, that kind of stuff where you need specialty riggings.

[00:15:03]>> And we got more. We got another. Now, why would you got two? We had to There's a blue one over there and you've got this yellow.

[00:15:10]>> So, this customer does a lot of long distance work and they just want to have a spare light bar. If you're 500 miles away from home and your light bar, for whatever reason decides not to work, it's not a bad idea to have a spare.

[00:15:22]>> Spare. Yep. Okay.

[00:15:25]And then here you got a toolbox.

[00:15:27]>> Correct. Yep. Custom toolbox.

[00:15:30]>> That's cool.

[00:15:33]One thing I should show you guys, this is what this was something I really liked was open up these boxes.

[00:15:40]This here is not a handle. You don't really go pull on this. And right underneath is a is a little button and you push the button and a door opens up.

[00:15:48]So you're not you don't have a you don't have a handle that's going to get corrosion in it and everything else in a few years from now. It's like it's I don't know. They bind up. They're kind of messy. And this actuator is pretty neat deal.

[00:16:00]>> Then this box is >> This is where you keep all the hookers.

[00:16:03]>> Yeah. Yeah. More chains.

[00:16:06]You can see the backside of the customization that we did in the tunnel box. The customer wanted a spot to put their creeper for getting under the trucks to hook up when it's sloppy weather out. So, we made a rack for that >> and just additional storage space. Being organized is the name of the game and being efficient.

[00:16:25]>> Yeah. When you're on the side of the road, you've got to be organized so that you can get in and out, get hooked up, and get out of there before something happens.

[00:16:31]>> Nothing's worse than like digging around trying to find the one thing and look in another box. Look here. Everything's got its place.

[00:16:38]>> You put it back, you know where it is, and it's you're on the side of the road, you're done. You're out of there pretty quick.

[00:16:42]>> And that way you know if something's missing.

[00:16:44]>> Yep. That too. That's pretty cool. So, um, other things on this NRC as we're like kind of checking out. This is a 40 CS. I did notice the the light bar back here is pretty neat.

[00:16:58]>> Their design of that whole the whole setup.

[00:17:00]>> Yeah, that's a fairly new design. Um, especially the the rear lighting.

[00:17:06]>> Used to be just your standard 4-in round and they've recently changed to the new panel. And this this particular truck, we did a paint matched panel. Um, definitely adds a little more.

[00:17:18]>> It adds It adds enough color. I think the way you guys have added the blue to the truck is kind of is kind of perfect.

[00:17:25]It >> It helps it flow.

[00:17:26]>> Oh, it does for sure. So, noticing all the way down the side of the truck, um, this light is something I'm not familiar with. This is a new style light. Y'all put them in the cabin sleeper panels and they're all the way down the body, too.

[00:17:37]>> Yeah, that's a Peterson light that NRC recently started using. Um, and it's kind of a growing trend of continuing those lights up onto the cab and the sleeper, and it just helps everything flow together.

[00:17:50]>> They look awesome. Um, when the truck's lit up, they look really good. And I think the style of them and everything, it kind of fits uh the curves and the design of the truck really well.

[00:18:00]>> Yeah.

[00:18:00]>> And y'all obviously like since it's left here, y'all had it all polished up.

[00:18:05]Looks really good now.

[00:18:08]>> Yeah. It turned out sharp. And then we haven't opened up the inside, but I I feel like I saw through the window that maybe it had a different steering wheel in it.

[00:18:17]>> It does.

[00:18:18]>> So, y'all done some other stuff on the inside?

[00:18:20]>> Yep.

[00:18:20]>> Check it out.

[00:18:21]>> It's got a blue steering wheel.

[00:18:22]>> Okay.

[00:18:23]>> Oh, yeah. Let's check it out.

[00:18:26]>> Now, like I was saying before, guys, after this video is over, at the end, we're going to link the video to the first the first video we did on the truck, which shows uh the interior stuff that we did. Um, but since it's been back, I've noticed y'all y'all got a control panel added up here and a screen.

[00:18:43]>> Correct. The screen's for the cameras.

[00:18:45]The truck has three exterior cameras.

[00:18:48]The touch pad is for all the body lighting. It's the same touch pad that's back in the back of the body at the control panels. So, you can control all the body lighting anywhere, whether you're in the cab or back control panels, either side.

[00:19:01]>> That's pretty cool.

[00:19:01]>> Yeah, it's really handy. And you've got all of our switches are interior light, blue ring, bunket lights, boom glow. So, they're all marked and easy to figure out.

[00:19:12]>> Yeah.

[00:19:12]>> And then, uh, is that SEI steering wheel?

[00:19:14]>> It is. Yep. And the customer wanted a different wheel, so we got the kit to do the conversion. It moves the controls, keeps the factory controls, but moves them out of the wheel onto a basically a replacement panel.

[00:19:30]>> Yep. That's really It's really sharp.

[00:19:32]The whole truck looks awesome.

[00:19:34]>> It turned out really nice.

[00:19:36]>> Whoever gets to drive this is probably pretty happy.

[00:19:38]>> Yeah, he's excited.

[00:19:41]>> So, going over the final bits of the specs on this truck, just a a brief overview because again, guys, after this video is over, you'll be able to see uh a lot more detail of the truck specs and what we did to it. But what do we got going on here?

[00:19:56]>> Yeah. So, this is a 589 Peterbuilt. It has a 605 Cumins, 18-speed manual transmission, 20,000lb steer axle, 52,000lb rear axles on 52 Newway. It's double frame tipto tip. The body is an NRC 40 ton composite slider.

[00:20:16]>> Okay. Hope this gave you guys a little bit of info on a wrecker if you don't know a lot about wreckers. And if you do like wreckers, sorry, tow truck. I'm never going to learn. Um, you know, this is a neat truck to check out. I I I've thoroughly enjoyed walking around and seeing you guys the whole facility here.
