Corey's final wish kid celebrates being cancer free
Added:Remember this sweet girl, Regina? She was my wish kid last year for our 15th annual and final Wishes and Heroes benefit concert. She was battling leukemia, was still very much in treatment, but she was a trooper and she hung out like a rock star throughout the concert. Well, yesterday was an even bigger day for her.
That is the sound every cancer patient and their support team strives to hear.
The ringing of the bell signifies you have beat your cancer and Regina got to do that just yesterday. Regina and her mom, Carla, are joining me this morning.
Congratulations.
>> Thank you.
>> I see you getting all teary-eyed. I can't even look because I I was crying watching it as well. How did that feel yesterday to ring that bell?
>> Good.
>> Yeah? How are you feeling?
>> Good as well.
>> Good. Well, I know you had a big surprise party afterwards, so you're probably tired from all the partying.
What what what was that moment like for you?
>> Oh my god.
It was amazing. I couldn't believe it. I still feel like just seeing it again >> Yeah.
>> makes me so happy.
>> You guys have really been through it the last few years. Of course, you know, like this is so hard for a child to go through this, especially your child. And yesterday, with the ringing of the bell, just signifies that now you can move on.
Now you can live life. Now you can go to school and dance and art and all the things that you want to do.
Um it was so emotional for you and everyone there, right?
>> Yes. It is. It is. And now, um we are so grateful. We are so blessed.
And it was it was a journey.
>> Yeah.
>> It's quite a journey. Uh let's go back in time cuz we also have to talk about the wish. Of course, you were my wish kid last year for Wishes and Heroes, which was so much fun. But here's pictures from your wish through the Make-A-Wish Foundation that was granted.
You went to Disney World. But also, you wanted to meet this famous YouTuber.
What's his name again?
>> ZHC >> T What is it?
>> ZHC >> ZHC. And uh he's an artist, and you love art. What was this wish like for you?
>> It was amazing.
>> Yeah. What was your favorite part?
>> Making the video.
>> Making the video? That Yeah, that video was so cool. Who was out there? Was it also Mr. Beast or something like that?
>> Yes, Mr. Beast and another like 13 YouTubers.
>> Oh my [laughter] gosh, yeah, they went big. They brought all the YouTubers out.
What was this like for you to finally go on this wish?
>> Oh, it was amazing. The best experience.
You forget about what you're going through, and you just enjoy it there.
>> And that's that's what I love so much about Make-A-Wish. You know, like they they take you out of everything that you're going through and the family for a moment to just live life and enjoy.
And they go big for it, right? Like you probably had the best transportation and the best food, and you got to meet all the Disney characters and the YouTuber and making the video and everything that goes along with it.
>> Yes.
>> So, cancer-free now. You rang that bell yesterday, day one of being cancer-free.
What is going on in your future? What are you looking forward to?
>> Nothing much.
>> Just being a kid? Yeah.
What what's the future plans now?
Anything big?
>> going back to school. We are going to travel to Mexico to see family.
Yeah, she's going to start dance classes. She loves dancing. So, we're going to do that. Yeah.
>> Still loves art?
Yeah. Still still doing the art on the side? Going back to school, going to do some dancing and some traveling.
Finally, traveling I'm sure looks a lot different for you now than it has the last few years.
>> We couldn't actually travel.
>> Yes.
>> Yeah.
>> Well, you're an incredible mom, and you were such a tough girl, such a fighter, and I'm so happy for both of you.
Congratulations on ringing the bell and being cancer-free.
>> Thank you for everything.
>> for coming in.
>> Thank you.
>> Drew.
>> Um
