This analysis astutely captures the moment partisan hawks realize that "forever wars" have shifted from strategic assets to terminal political liabilities. It serves as a sobering reminder that public exhaustion eventually dictates the limits of interventionist foreign policy.

Added:Welcome back to The David Pakman Show.
I'm producer Pat Ford filling in for David today.
He'll be back with us in studio tomorrow.
Fox News is Laura Ingraham is apparently sick of covering for Donald Trump's disastrous Warren Iran.
She must not be wanting to talk about it all that much anymore, especially night after night on her Fox News program.
But it's kind of one of those things you have to talk about when the president decides to wage a war in a foreign country that is capable of resisting for a long period of time.
So we have Laura Ingraham saying that we got to get out of this thing.
It's time to wrap it up, because we have the midterms coming up.
And this could be the type of thing that costs Republicans the midterms.
She says that the clock is ticking for Trump to get out of there and resolve this thing.
So will Trump take the message?
Probably not.
But here is at least the argument that she laid And with the midterm elections a little more than 100 days away, the clock is ticking for President Trump to get out of this war before voters head to the polls.
It's making a lot of Republicans nervous.
It's already, as we know, unpopular.
According to the new Washington Post Ipsos poll, 69% of Americans disapprove of the handling of this conflict.
Republicans cannot let this become an endless distraction, especially especially if they want to win in November.
So I can't believe.
First of all, that 29% of Americans support Trump's Iran policy.
I can't believe it's that high, because yes, I know that Trump's approval rating is somewhere in the 30s, but you'd have to imagine that this Iran war is among the most unpopular things that he's done in his presidency.
So even the people who generally support him maybe wouldn't support this war, but it still has 29% approval, his handling of the war.
And that is just absolutely surprising to me, especially given the fact that you'd think there'd be a lot of people who supported the war but are upset with Trump that he hasn't been aggressive enough for, at the very least, that we haven't been able to achieve the military objectives that we set out to achieve, including regime change.
You'd think there would be some people in there who are otherwise Trump supporters and Warhawks, but disapprove of Trump's Iran policy for that reason.
But nevertheless, 29% is still enough for Laura Ingraham to say that it's time to bring an end to this Iran war, Danny boy.
Otherwise, it's going to cost you the midterms.
And, you know, at this point, we've gone through basically every iteration of this war.
It was a hot war, and then it was cold for a while.
There was the cease fire.
There was, you know, the opening and closing and opening and closing of the Strait of Hormuz and all the global disruptions, the stock market going up and down and up and down.
We've been through it all at this point, it seems, and we've also gone through a period of time where everyone was saying that Trump lost the war.
Even Republicans who were upset that he didn't continue it were saying that this kind of looks like defeat.
It looks like surrender.
We're not, at the very least, ending up in a better situation than we were in when we had the Obama Iran deal.
So a lot of people were saying, this is a big L for Trump.
Laura Ingraham has taken a look at all these different iterations.
Right.
She's taking a look at the possible outcome of this war being Trump holding up this big el for the Republican Party.
And she says that that is actually preferable to Trump getting stuck in this forever war in Iran, just continuing this thing forever.
She says that that's ultimately going to be worse for Republicans.
And I think she's absolutely right with that assessment.
I think that that's what she's thinking about when it comes to this.
And I don't think it's really having all that much of an effect on Trump because he was asked about it in the Oval Office, not Laura Ingram's commentary specifically, but this idea about whether he's considering the midterms in his Iran negotiations and what he plans to do next there.
And he says that he's not considering that.
But that's also kind of what you have to say.
I do think there's maybe the possibility he's considering it, as we talked about before.
But Laura Ingraham says that he should be considering it a whole lot more.
Meanwhile, over at Fox News, we have Maria Bartiromo, who is still just trying to figure out what the hell is going on.
It seems she is so confused because she recognizes that.
On the one hand, Trump says that he wiped out the Iranian military.
But yet she also sees that the war is continuing.
So she's like, what's going on here?
How come we need more money to fight the war?
If we already took out their Navy and their Air force and all that stuff?
Here is Maria Bartiromo just confused as can I don't understand how it's possible that Iran has the capabilities to fight this way and continue to try to lash out at Gulf countries and U.S.
military bases, because the U.S.
has obliterated Iran's military.
And the president continues to reiterate so there's a short answer to Maria Bartiromo question. And then there's the longer answer.
The short answer is that Trump lies about really just about everything.
And he lied about this. He lied about the extent to which we've been able to decimate the Iranian military.
But then there's also the longer answer, which is that when it comes to these Middle Eastern forces like Iran, like and Iraq before Iran, they're not known for their navies or their air forces or these things that Trump likes to brag about taking out.
They're known for their effective ability to embed in civilian populations, to network with proxy groups, to disrupt supply chains in the global economy like that.
That's what these Middle Eastern forces are more known for.
That's why they they're more effective military forces.
So we've seen the example of them, for example, draining US resources by using these $20,000 drones that require $2 million interceptor missiles to shoot down.
It's a way to make the war more expensive for the United States.
And it's something that barely costs Iran anything.
So it's just one example of how Trump and these Republicans miss the mark when they talk about how Iran's navies destroy their air force is destroyed.
Yeah, but let's actually take a look at how the war plays out and what the conflict is like day to day.
And you'll see that that doesn't really seem to be all that relevant.
And then finally, something that should send chills down everyone's spine.
We have retired general Rob Spalding, who appeared as a guest on Fox News, and he said that this war could go on for 20 years now.
Is he saying this as a warning as he saying this like in the same way I do, which is that this a running conflict could end up going on for 20 years.
So we have to make sure that we put a stop to it now so it doesn't get to that point.
No, he's not saying, look, our other recent conflicts like Iraq, Afghanistan, they lasted something like 20 years.
So what's the problem with this one lasting 20 years?
Get a load of this.
No, I don't think you know, the Pentagon has done a great job of restocking the munitions.
I don't think that's an issue at all, but I can't.
I do expect that we're going to be there a long time.
You know, Operation Northern and Southern Watch went on for almost 20 years, I think.
So I think this is going to be something similar.
We're going to have to stay there.
Those guys aren't going to change their behavior.
We have to adapt.
And I think we're going to have to get the Gulf states and those that rely on the oil coming from the Gulf states to help pay for this.
All right.
So this guy is acting as though this is no big deal because we had the 20 year war in Afghanistan.
We had the 20 year war in Iran.
So this is just another one of those, right?
It's just another 20 year conflict.
Well, no, the American public, they're not used to these wars.
They're not okay with these wars.
They're sick of these wars. We're sick of these forever wars.
And Donald Trump himself campaigned against these forever wars.
He said that he was going to end all the wars.
But instead, of course, we've seen the exact opposite.
And this is how it happens, right?
It's the same pattern every single time.
It's just supposed to be a few week conflict, and then a few weeks turns into a few months, and then that turns into a few years.
Then we're talking about a few decades.
And, you know, I don't often agree with Laura Ingraham, but on this one, I certainly agree with her over Rob Spalding.
I know she wants to get out of the war to bring about a favorable result for Republicans in the midterms. I just want to see peace.
I just want to see the tragedy over there.
Stop.
Obviously, no matter how it ends at this point, it's going to be an embarrassment to the United States, but hopefully we can prevent it from getting a whole lot worse.
All right.
That's going to do it for today's episode of The David Parkman Show.
But the show continues.
If you are a member, if you want to become a member, of course, sign up at Join Packman and then you'll get access to the bonus show.
On today's bonus show, we're going to be talking about the mega golfer Bryson DeChambeau, who tried to get a penalty overturned.
He threatened to call up Trump to persuade the league, I guess, to overturn a penalty that didn't get, that didn't go his way.
Clearly inspired by the decision that Trump made to call up the FIFA president to get him to overturn the red card against the US player ahead of US game against Belgium recently.
So there's that story that we're going to talk about, and then we're also going to talk about how Donald Trump is just sitting on the war chest that he has.
He has this massive war chest that he should be using to spend on 20, 26 candidates to help them win in their midterm races.
But instead, he's just hoarding all the cash, and he's probably going to direct it to his presidential library or something like that.
So all of that and more on the bonus show today, I'm Pat Ford filling in for David Pacman.
Thank you so much for watching today.
And we'll see you on the bonus show.
Thanks for watching.
