A Harvard study reveals that women adopt AI at 40% the rate of men, prompting celebrities like Reese Witherspoon and Mel Robbins to encourage women to embrace AI to avoid being left behind in the tech industry; however, experts emphasize that critical AI literacy—understanding who builds AI systems, who benefits, and what biases exist—is essential for responsible and beneficial technology adoption.

Why are celebrities telling women to use more AI?
Added:If you're a woman, you need to be using more AI. At least that's what some celebrities are telling their audiences, and their followers aren't having it.
Let me explain. So, podcaster Mel Robbins posted this video. We need to talk about this Harvard study and the shocking statistic that up to 40% less women are adopting AI at the rate that men are.
>> Actress Reese Witherspoon also shared her take.
>> I think it's time to learn about AI. I was with 10 women at a book club yesterday and I said to the 10 of them, "How many of you guys use AI?"
>> It's time. It's time, people.
>> Both posts face some serious backlash from their followers. But it's not just them. Other celebrities and public figures have also been seen promoting artificial intelligence, whether to do your finances, organize your emails, or other everyday tasks. Many of them especially encourage women to use more AI or risk being left behind as the technology advances. Now, one AI bioethsist tells us that fear of women being excluded from tech spaces is genuine.
>> For many years, women have been left behind in the job market.
>> A national analysis by Toronto Metropolitan University found that men hold roughly 700,000 positions in tech where women hold about 200,000. And that UN report Witherspoon quoted in her video, well, it says, "Women's jobs are three times more likely to be automated by AI." But commenters still say the way these celebrities are pumping out pro- AAI content feels like fear-mongering or shilling for tech bros. Doria says it's important to truly understand those AI technologies before using them. To say that they need to adopt AI more than being of, hey, we need to learn critical AI literacy. We need to understand these tools.
>> She says those who choose to adopt AI need to be learning who builds them, who benefits from them, and what their biases are. She says without this, users are doing more harm than good. People need to understand their comfort levels.
