On May 29, 2026, China's National Medical Products Administration (NMPA) approved Benralizumab, an anti-IL-5R biologic developed by AstraZeneca, for the treatment of Hypereosinophilic Syndrome (HES), expanding its previously approved indications for severe eosinophilic asthma and EGPA. This approval is based on the global Phase III NATRON trial data, which demonstrated significant clinical benefits including a 65% reduction in risk of first HES flare compared to placebo, a 66% lower annual relapse rate (0.41 vs 1.23/year), and a reduced relapse/discontinuation rate (22.4% vs 45.5%).
