Russian jets paint theirs bright turquoise green, which seems insane until  you learn why. Soviet scientists discovered that pilots flying 8-hour missions in gray cockpits  suffered severe eye strain and made more targeting errors. The neutral colors actually tired their  vision faster. But green, specifically this shade, keeps the eye muscles relaxed during long flights.  Russian pilots could fly longer missions with less fatigue and better accuracy. When the  US finally tested it in classified trials, green cockpits improved pilot performance  by 23 percent. But they still use gray, because admitting Russia was right  would mean repainting thousands of jets.
