Motorcycle engines require proper breathing systems to manage pressure buildup during operation; when the breather system becomes clogged, oil pressure increases and can cause oil caps to blow off. Running rich conditions (excessive fuel mixture) can be diagnosed by examining spark plugs for black, soot-covered deposits, which indicates too much fuel is entering the combustion chamber. The root cause may be carburetor issues, cam misalignment, or carbon buildup on valve seals and stems.

Sunday Night Live!
Added:going live.
You are live. It says, "Hey folks, hope everybody's doing well." Me turn that up. That might be a little too bright.
There we go.
Somebody give me a thumbs up if my audio is okay. I got the exhaust fan off, but the AC is on. It is kind of and humid out here. So, just let me know if comment uh Shannon and Jessica, hello from Alabama. Hello, guys and gals. Uh Daytona.
Old man Joe from Daytona. Hope the weather's good down there. And Brian Douglas from Nebraska. Good to have you, Brian.
All right, I got a thumb up. Thumbs up from Brian. Thank you. I guess my audio is good. I've got cancel cancelling on. I hope that's okay. Um, I got the good mic on. I usually have it Bluetooth, but I think plugging the receiver into the computer works a little bit better. And my wife should be joining me any minute. Oh, I think that's her back there in the shadows.
Can't stand yet, but she's coming. So, I have nothing planned tonight to talk about me because for the last probably three or four lives, I've been rambling on nonstop. So, this is really going to be a time just to interact with each other, ask questions, chit chat, chew the cud, have fun, cut up, tell some dad jokes or mom jokes, whatever the mood hits. I do want to give you some updates though in saying that. Uh, I took Liberty out yesterday for her first group ride. So, Liberty is done.
Although, you've not seen the last video yet. That should be coming out this coming Friday. She turned out great.
I don't know what it is about those years. It's a 1986 Liberty Edition classic. Plain Jane, right? Nothing unique besides the paint and stickers on it.
But that bike rides I it rides better than my car. You know how you'll you you're used to potholes and railroad tracks and you kind of kind of brace for it. You're ready for it.
This thing you you don't even feel them.
I went over railroad tracks. I'm like what am I in above the road? Did I even hit the railroad tracks? Nothing. like no no no even little like bump just nothing.
I don't know if it's the those vintage Shinko tires I put on there, the balancing beads I put in it, the air ride shocks, the way you're setting up closer to the tank. I don't know what it is, but that is the best riding bike I've ever been on in my life. And I told my wife today after church at Look, I've been on a lot of nice bikes.
That's hands down the best riding bike I've ever owned or ridden. And so I had a blast yesterday. We had we had eight people yesterday, seven bikes in our group. So it was a pretty good group. We were down a couple of bikes that didn't get to ride with us. So we had a really good time. I met uh three new riding people with us. So but Liberty did great. I'm working on the pan head now.
And boy, she's giving us some fits.
I don't know who was in there doing work, but it wasn't done right. And I'm at this point, I'm just trying to get the thing to run and run good, and then we can move on past that. So, uh, she's been giving me some trouble.
There's some really cool upgrades you're going to see in the video coming up next for the pan head.
That's the only thing I wanted to update you on was that Oh, my wife's writing some notes down. I don't know. No notes.
Oh, you doing the orders?
>> Somebody asked about the banners.
All the banners have been mailed out, right? Uh, some folks wanted me to sign some of them. So, I tried one pen. It didn't work. So, I had to go buy an actual paint pen that's chiseled on the end so that I could sign a little bit clearer and better. So, I hope you like those.
None of the DVD folks have reached out.
So, if you're on here and you want a DVD, reach out to me. I put the raffles in the DVDs. They're ready to go, but I don't have an address to ship them to.
So, still have all the DVDs here. I think there was four four DVDs, so let me know. All right, I think that's everything I needed to update folks on. Yes. No, Sugar Bear. Okay.
Have you mounted out the banners yet? I have. And there are I got them with tracking numbers.
So, I think my wife's putting them in right now. Put them in the comment.
>> Uh, no. I was just looking to see. It should have been there Friday.
>> It should have been there Friday, she said.
>> All of the banners.
>> Okay. Yeah, we we uh we try to pick a day to mail things on when we have a lot of orders come in. We just go at once to the post office. It's just easier to have it on one transaction than going there every day or every other day. So, and thank you to all those that order merch, shirts, hats, patches. Thank you so much. Uh, we try to get those out in a timely manner if we have them in stock.
Uh, Laconia, New Hampshire, good to have you here, DJ. Thanks for hanging out.
Hello from Kentucky, Joe Buck. Good to have you here. And there's a nad right now. Okay, wasn't too long.
Uh Jay Smith, got my 99 road came back on the road thanks to you, Kevin.
Probably meant to say, "Got my 99 road king back on the road. Thanks to you, Kevin." That's awesome, Jay. I'm happy to help. I'm glad we could wrench together and get you back on the road.
Cotton Man, uh San Antonio checking in.
Good evening, everybody. I think Cotton Man's one of our new members on our channel. So, thank you very much for that. I think we've got 76 members now.
Something like that. I know we're in the mid70s. So, I think 76.
Uh, Mr. Ferris. Hey, Kevin. Mom-in-law says, "Hi." Yeah. Uh, Ferris and his wife couldn't make it on a ride. They're taking care and spending time with her mother. She had a fall. And so, be praying for her.
Uh, so y'all missed a good ride. I tell you, it was an eventful ride.
We were trying to outrun a a thunderstorm.
Two trees down in the road. One we actually there's a guy out there with chainsaw, so we helped push and move the logs he was cutting out of the road. One truck in the ditch that we come up on.
He was right in the middle of the road back back in in the ditch. and then another car in the ditch on the other side of the road. Then we got we went through Gainesboro, we went to Cookville, we ate at a little Chinese place there and we could see the thunderstorm coming. We're like, well, let's just wait it out. And I'm so glad we did. I think we looked it up on the radar. There was 200 lightning strikes right there in that thunderstorm that we were going to possibly drive right through. So, it worked out good that we waited it out. Then we drove toward the sunshine and we had a good time all the way back and I was on Miss Liberty. She did awesome. She did good. So far, she missed a fun time, an eventful story.
Uh, we had a good time and we had three new riders with us, so maybe next time we can catch up.
Uh, Cotton Man got my new hat yesterday.
Okay, so he got the hat. I think you ordered a hat and a patch, right? So, he said he got that yesterday.
>> Nashville.
>> Okay. What one banner is sitting in Nashville for some reason?
>> The other ones were delivered. So, do we know what place that was? The banner.
like the first place winner >> a the first place winner and then that's the one I signed and it's set so it's setting in Nashville. I'll tell you what we will send you the tracking number on your email. I know who you are so we'll send it that way.
Uh hello from Oklahoma. I'm working on my 2000 night train and I want to say thank you for all your helpful videos. That's awesome. Uh, I like the night trains.
They're good riding bikes.
Uh, Cotton Man. Yes, they're That's right. Okay. So, the hat and the patch.
Glad you like got them. Glad you like it. That was our last small patch that we had in stock. So, we got to order some more. We got tons of the bigger patches that go like that that you sew on, but a lot of folks are liking those little patches because you just iron them on and they're good. They're the same things that's on our hats. So awesome.
All right. Like I said, I didn't have anything planned to talk to.
Uh the pan head, I can give you some updates on the pan head.
We got it to fire up. So that the weights, the advanced weights was the issue. However, um I pulled the plugs out. The customer doesn't know this yet. They're faithful members and subscribers.
Uh, I pulled the plugs out. They were black and sy. So, we either have a carb issue that's dumping a ton of fuel in or there is still a timing issue. Since we replaced everything on top, it's got to be inside with the cam gears.
I'm thinking if we pull the cam cover off, we're going to find there's a cam misalignment somewhere and all those gears. Something didn't get put back right.
It does have a chrome cam cover, so I know somebody's been in there.
I'm just hoping that it's a carb issue.
So, the customers decided to get a brand new SNS shorty Super Shorty E carb kit. So, I got it here. It's in the box. It came in early and so I will start filming on that tomorrow. So, you're going to see in the pan head video how to put on a SNS kit on a vintage bot. So that'd be panthe head, shovel head, Evo, knuckleheads. They're all the same.
You can't just take the old linker carb off, the M74, and just throw an SNS on there because the intake's different.
So, we'll be doing a new intake, a new gaskets, new seals, new carb, new carb uh cleaner, air breather, all that. So, that'll be fun.
And I want to try that first to see if that's our running rich issue. So, I'm hoping that it is. Another possibility.
You tell me if I'm wrong. If you watch the pan head video, the very first video, the push rods were way too tight.
That could have caused those weight those weight advance to break like they did. But also, if they're if they're extremely tight, the valves won't be closed fully. Now, they'll close enough for a compression if you feel it, but they won't ever close fully. Well, if the intake never closes fully, then when that com when that combustion chamber fires, all that carbon is going to be pushed up into that intake valve.
Then when we went back and set the valves right and the push rods right, there is still probably carbon around that valve seat and it's still not fully closing and could be letting too much fuel come in causing that. So, it's either uh cam misalignment or steal something out of time, which would be cam, or carbon on the seals on the valve seals and stems.
Don't know yet. So, we'll find out. So, I want to try that carburetor first.
That way, I know for a fact I'm getting the proper fuel flow. Not too much, not too little. See if that clears the plugs up then we know. See if it runs better.
Um I don't know if you can probably tell in the video. You haven't seen it yet, but I have noise cancellation on this.
So when I fire back up, you you can hardly hear it. When I go back to edit it, you can hardly hear it. So I'll try to remember to turn that noise cancelling off the next time I start boxing. So, you won't be able to hear it in the video, but it was running and it would idle, but when I went to get on gas, it would just pop. It wouldn't pop.
It would just run really rough. And the reason now that I looked at the plugs was because too much fuel was going in there. I think that's the problem. So, that linker was in bad shape. And the linkers, those M74s never ran good anyway.
They're always finicky. they would always seem to dump too much fuel in.
So, I think this SNS gonna be a really good fix for it. So, I want to try that first before we get into the cam cover because if you ever been in there, you know that's a big job. So, all right.
So, let me catch up on these uh Everson Adventure 1998 Heritage Left Blinker just keeps blinking. Any idea? Thanks, Dan.
Uh, okay. Left blinker keeps blinking.
So on a 98, that would be the older style. It would have the uh T TSSM the turn signal. No, TSM turn signal module.
Hold on.
I got one right here.
Let's start over here every time.
Okay.
Okay.
Yeah, you should have one of these.
Uh on a 98, I believe. What' you say it was? 98 Heritage. Should have one of these. And so this is a little computer boot box that just controls the brake lights, the turn signals. That's all it does on these older stocks. So, uh, these are bad to go out. They go bad.
They get wonky like that. Now, you could have a wiring issue on one of your wires, but understand on a turn signal, you don't have any power going into that light until you hit the button. So, if your button was if it was a button issue, both flashers would flash both sides or not flash. uh if it didn't get any power, but you got just power on one side constantly, it's probably going to be uh this cold. Very hard to find. If you find them, they don't make them new.
And if you find them, you never know if it's if the new one you're getting is bad or not because it's going to be used. So, you can do aftermarket uh boxes. I think a Dana Dana lights or something like that. Uh, somebody on here, I'm sure, will tell you. Makes aftermarket boxes like this. Uh, some you can find that will plug right into the plug when you take this out of the plug in. Uh, some you have to do some wiring to wire them in to your harness.
Uh, but those some of those boxes, they'll also let you do your LEDs as well. So, if you wanted to convert to LED lights, uh you could do that with a box like that. Then you won't have the fast flashing or no flashing at all in those LEDs. So, uh look for that on your bike. Uh on a 98 Heritage, uh it's probably going to be underneath the seat or a side panel somewhere.
Not a side panel or Heritage, uh it'd be underneath the seat.
Maybe I don't think it'd be in the headlight bucket. So, uh Charlie, happy Sunday. Happy Sunday to you. We've had a busy busy Sunday.
Had church this morning. Uh we unfortunately had a funeral to go to. Uh then we went to a housewarming party after that for one of our church folks.
Then our daughter and son-in-law are closing on the house tomorrow. And so they wanted us to go and do the final walkthrough with them and just see the house for the first time. So been a busy day. Then now I'm out here with you folks having a good time. Uh then tomorrow I got a busy busy week this week. So uh James says Mr. Butter.
Hope that's a typo, but I'll take it.
I've been called worse than Mr. Butter.
Uh, I won't say that name, but good evening.
I have a 98 Road King with a strip seat.
Stripe seat. Oh, from the bike show couple weeks ago. I keep uh popping the oil cap when I drive too long. What's the low hanging fruit to go after? Okay.
Um, oil system. Your oil system is getting pressurized somewhere.
So, there has to be a breather place for your oil system. If not, as your oil heats up, it'll pressurize and it's got to go somewhere. So, your oil filler cap, especially the ones you just push down in, pressure builds up, they'll blow out because that oil pressure's got to go somewhere. So Harley's are designed to breathe.
The older Harleys will breathe from the crank case. Usually it's just breathe to atmosphere. So there'll be a hose that runs off kind of right behind um the swing arm or under the battery tray or oil box.
That'll just be a hose. That's why when you start some older bikes up with the external oil pumps, they just puke out and wet sump out. Oil comes out on the ground. It's coming out the breather vent case, crank case, breather. Uh some breathe through the heads. So you could have clogged filter uh in your heads.
You could have clogged breather bolts where they come out. So somewhere in your breathing breather system, however your bike breathes oil or breathes at um pressure out is clogged. And so not fully clogged or when you fired the bike up and it ran for like a half a minute, boom, that thing would pop off. And if your oil caps really tight, I've seen them blow up to the ceiling of the shop sometimes. So, you're going to want to find out where that is. What are you running? It's a 98, so it's a EVO. So, it would still breathe back to atmosphere, I believe, on those years.
Um, if they're breathing through the heads, then you want to check those breather bolts. You got some kind of breathing problem.
So, that'd be what I'd go after. Uh, Sean, good evening. Good evening, Sean James.
98 should be inside headlock bezel.
Thank you. That's in the headlight bezel. Couldn't remember. So, thank you for clearing me up.
Mo Larry Curly says, "Howdy. Howdy to you." PG says 98 is a head breather.
Okay. Thank you. Thought it was uh but I don't know what year they went to the head breathing. I think in 94 maybe. Tell me, maybe not. Maybe earlier. So, check, pull your breather bolts out, blow through them, check them where your breather bolts go in, I assume, back into your air filter. Check those little if they're little plastic tubes or rubber tubes that go down in there. Blow those out. Also, with the air cleaner off and the breather bolts out, crank the bike up and put your thumbs over the holes. You should have kind of good a little little bit of pressure coming out over those holes.
You might have one that doesn't have any pressure coming out at all. That's your culprit. So, you go in the top of those rocker covers and check out your breather assembly inside there.
Uh PG umbrella valves. Yeah. So, your breather assembly will hold your umbrella valves, your breather filter, and even you can might have a clog in the passage that runs to your breather bolts, runs in that channel. So, you want to check that as well.
All right, Cotton Man, from watching one of your videos, you had said if there's too much oil, it will pop that oil cap, too. Yeah, that's true. If it is overfilled with oil, it'll pop the oil cap off because there's supposed to be so much um kind of not really pressure, but air clearance in the tank, whatever kind of tank you're running. So yeah, you are a true cotton man. If there is too much oil in, uh, it will pop that out, but it'll usually blow, you know, a bunch of oil come out with it as well. If you're just getting air out of there, and it only does it after you're riding for a while, then it's going to be a breathing problem. Probably not too much oil. Uh, too much oil, you'd know that you'd know the issue immediately once you start the bike.
But that that is a good point. Cotton man James turn handlebar to the left. You could pry up the sheet metal bracket.
Okay.
Uh thank you. No problem.
Uh our Kansas razor gator. Howdy from our Kansas.
I never understood that. There's a Kansas, then they put the arc in the AR in front of it and there's an Arizona.
So, wouldn't it be zona Kansas? Zone Kansas between the two arid from Arkansas. Happy Sunday. Happy Sunday to you as well, James. Thank you, Mr. Bower. Mama said hi.
H for my mama too.
>> I guess I >> I guess I do need to have kind of something to talk about.
>> You said what?
>> You're so smart.
>> I'm so smart.
>> I'm so smart.
>> Oh. And then I go and mess it up. Say something. No. I wish you'd come over here so I can Could you come say hi >> in a minute? Okay, she says she's gonna say hi in a minute.
All right, you guys talk to me now.
I think I've got it set up where I can see them the questions as they come in on comments.
I don't know. I can't I can't see on here how many's on here.
Okay, I see it on my phone. 35.
Keep him straight, mama.
She does. There you go.
CT Snider said, "Uh, Ar Kansas." Yeah.
Riley says, "Good evening from Hampton, Virginia." Good to have y'all. Thanks for hopping on tonight. We're just chewing the Cud. So, I'm really relying and depending on some comments and some chats.
Um, they don't have to be questions.
Just tell me what you wrenching on or what project you got in mind or what you're looking at buying down the road. Hey, I'll tell you.
I did that how to buy a project Harley and that's just kind of an idea I've had for a while and I thought, you know, I wish I had a video when I first started buying bikes. Hey, here's some things to look for, not look for. And I didn't think that video would do as good as it did, but it's done good. We've got like it's just went live Friday. I think we got already like 20 something subscribers from it, new subscribers from it. And uh it's it did good. I'm like, "Wow, that's pretty cool." I didn't even hold a wrench the whole time. So, that's pretty neat. So, maybe it helped some folks out.
Uh, Riley, loved your video on how to buy Project Back. That's cool. I didn't think it'd do good cuz I didn't have a bike. You know, usually I'm more comfortable standing behind the bike and wrenching on bikes and us cutting up, looking at problems, trying to solve them. Uh, so that was good to know that I could just sit and talk and it'd be a pretty decent video that people enjoyed watching. And you know, I want to ask this question. Maybe you can answer it for me. Um, if if money was an option and finding it wasn't a problem, what would be your dream motorcycle? Doesn't have to be Harley. What would be your dream motorcycle? And I asked that because I got mine.
I as a kid I had a poster hanging up in my bedroom and it was a Kawasaki uh crotch rocket uh ZXR750.
And I finally found one. This was before I started the channel, I believe. And it was in rough shape. So, I stripped it all down and I'm like, I'm going to rebuild it the best I can. All stock parts, just nice. And so, that was my dream bike. It is here in the shop. You might have seen the rims. I've already got them powder coated. They're up over there. The motors been laying over here for years. The carbs are put up and sealed up. Uh, the tank's in good shape.
I've just got to have the extra funds to get it all back together. But as a kid, that was my dream bike. Then as I was younger and got into cruisers, the pan head was my dream bike. And I have my pan head. It's not as long as I can put food on the table, it's not going anywhere. So I want to know what's your dream bike that like you'd love to have and you'd be happy. wouldn't ever have to have another bike if you had that bike.
So, let me catch up here.
Uh John Pearson, we've been getting an awful lot of rain and lightning up here in Cookville for the last seven days.
How about y'all down there? Uh yeah, that's where we were. We were in Cookville when the bottom fell out and there was, like I said, 200 lightning strikes there in that little thunderstorm. It only lasted for about 30 minutes, but it was bad when it hit.
And we were in Kville. We were We ate right there. There's a little Chinese place called Panda Panda China Buffet or something like that. It's right there in the same shopping strip as Harbor Freight. So, uh, maybe you've ate there before. It's pretty good food. And, uh, so that's where we got caught. It was right there in that place.
Uh, Cotton Man, I really enjoyed that video. Oh, cool. On the project buying a project bike. That's Thank you. That's good to hear. I'm looking forward to driving to Nashville next week with my family. We're hitting wheels through time. Looking forward to it. You will not be disappointed.
We had a blast not just at the museum and not just meeting Matt and Chris and all the staff there, but really the whole area there in Maggie Valley. It's not a big area.
It's probably three miles long at that maybe.
But man, it was like stepping back in time. And I just love that it wasn't commercialized. I it's hard to that's what I like about riding and just riding wherever wherever the road goes and finding these little towns and little stores and mom and pops. I just I love that and I'd rather spend money there than go to Walmart or McDonald's or anything like that. Maggie Valley is like that and you're going to have a good time. And I suggest going down through Pigeon Forge and Gatlinburgg and coming in the back way through Cherokee. That was really fun. A beautiful ride during the day of course.
Several places for to stop for kind of overseen lookout scenery overlooks overlooks.
And uh uh my friend at at church, Bubba, he was telling me that there's one place you can ride up there and it's like the tallest place point in Tennessee that you could see really, really far.
So, uh we had a good time. I hope you will as well.
All right.
Uh, Felix, I learned I have learned so much from your time and dedication to share your motorcycle knowledge. Much appreciated. Thank you, Felix. I appreciate that. I do put a lot of time into the videos. Uh, at the very beginning when I started YouTube, I I was quickly like, "This ain't going to work. I can't do this.
I can't stop wrenching and explain things and then move a lighting, move the camera, make sure I got all this on.
I can't do this. It literally I was like, "This takes me three to four times longer to do than just doing the work."
Uh, but through encouragement like comments like that, I kept doing it. And I was not consistent when I first started. I think I was like doing a video a month, maybe maybe once every two months.
And I quickly learned, hey, if I want to kind of do this for a living, um, I need to do once a week. And so I set a goal to do that. And when I started doing that, that really changed things.
And it's hard to keep that up. Right now I'm filming about a month ahead. Uh, but it's hard to keep that up because things just happen and a part has to come in and I don't want to break a video up. I like to keep my videos about an hour long. I think that's good meat on the bones for you for once a week. And so it it it seems like every time I get about a month ahead, something will happen and I'll get behind where I'm sitting down and editing on a Thursday night before you see it that Friday morning. So, right now I'm doing good. So, I'm kind of in a good rhythm right now and u I've got things scheduled out to the end of the year. So, and for everybody that's got a bike up here, thank you for being patient. Uh the pan head appeared and I was happy to have it. It was not scheduled, so it kind of put other things behind a little. So, thank you for being patient. But, I'm I'm fully invested in the pan head now. We got to have it running right and we got to go down the road on it. We got to go down the road on it. So, uh, my 06 883 Sportster seems to be running rich. Can I send you pictures of my spark plugs? Yeah, absolutely.
I'd love to try to help you out.
James, matching van twin van twin cam.
That's your ultimate bike. Awesome.
Uh yeah, some of the uh I call them gen first generation twin caps, the TC88s.
Um nowadays it's getting pretty hard to find a matching motor with the frame because so many of those first generations were neglected on the camchain tensioners.
They failed, destroyed everything inside the cam chest. Metal shavings went all through the motor. And it was it's actually more affordable to find a used good motor to just take the old motor out and throw the new motor in than to pay a labor fee. Now, if you was doing it yourself, of course, it's not.
Um, but it was more affordable. So, so you see a lot of first generation twin cam bikes that you really have to check the VIN number on to make sure uh it's an unmolested bike.
Cut man went back and watched your first intro video. You had a lot less gray in that beard.
That's back before me and my wife were arguing so much.
Yeah, I did. I was a lot younger back then and that wasn't that long ago.
I think coming up next February is our fifth year or four years. Four years.
No, five years. I started February 2022.
So that's not been that long ago. Gosh, it's a lot more Santa calls. Hey, we went in the Goodwill the other day.
Listen, one of our subscribers uh sent us $100 through Cash App uh to take our family out.
So, we took the kids to Goodwill and we each gave them because we had five of our 10 kids with us. And we each gave them $20 a piece to go into Goodwill.
Now, look, when we go out with our kids, they're always like, "Can I get this?
Can I get that? Can I get this?" When we gave them their own money, they didn't want to spend a dime. They were tight wats. Like, ah, do I want this? No. But anyway, we walked into Goodwill with the kids. They had their money. And the cop behind the counter started singing, "Here comes Santa Claus." Did you hear it?
It didn't dawn on me till I was like halfway down the smelly shoe aisle that I realized that guy was singing. He was talking about me.
So, uh, Michael, where were you a Scott Russell fan?
Um, I guess not because I don't know who's Am I supposed to know who Scott Russell is? Was he a bike builder?
I don't know. Look, when it comes to all that stuff, I don't watch much TV.
The last thing a m a motorcycle mechanic wants to do is to watch videos on motorcycle mechanics and bike tours.
When we when me and my wife, we went on vacation one year with kids. We try to go once a year. We went down to Panama City Beach. We used to go there every year.
Uh, now we go to Orange Beach. We like that better. It's more laidback.
But we went to Panama City Beach one year.
And vacation is time. I don't have to wrench on nothing. I don't have to plunge a toilet or fix an AC or broken microw. I don't have to fix anything.
And we went down there. I was so happy to get away just from wrenching.
And it was Thunder Beach by crowd.
And all night long it was like I was out in the shop starting up bikes all night long. Everywhere we went was bikes everywhere. I didn't have to wrench on one, but they were just everywhere. So if Scott Russell is a bike builder Oh, I've got his poster. Okay.
Yeah. Now look, I didn't know he was a racer. But listen, it's not my fault. I grew up out in the country on a farm, on a tobacco farm. So, we had three channels on a good clear day. If my little brother went out and held the antenna, right, we got four channels and we couldn't get him to stay out there in the thunderstorm.
So, I never got to see bike races. And something that I enjoy Yeah. And something that I enjoy a lot lately is on Saturday I do splurge. I watch Vice Script Garage. I watch Legit Street Cars because they're working on cars. I can It's not bike related. But I do love to watch King King of the Bagger races, Indiana and Harley races. I do I do indulge in that and I would love to go to a race this year. I think they're doing I think the closest one to us is Georgia maybe or Indiana, but I think Georgia's closer. I would love to go and watch one of those. Um, so I probably had his poster. I had a lot of uh Kawasaki posters up. I like the Kawasakis and so I bet I got his but I didn't know he was a racer so thank you for educating me.
Uh Riley up in the air about the dream bike want a 62 pan but some oldra beard let some dumb kid take a ride on his 73 electric glide and I was hooked.
Awesome.
Oh yeah.
I I tell you that 86 Electric Glide I got it's it's hands down the best riding bike I've ever been on. And you know I don't like windshields.
I always like the open air. But that windshield Okay, here's my problem with windshields. They're either too short and the wind hits you either right in the mouth or right up under your helmet and your helmet wants to keep doing this or it vibrate your eyeballs or they're too tall and they're right in where you're you got to do this or do that constantly.
This windshield it's it's a stock windshield, but it is it's perfect. It's right there.
It's perfect. I don't have to hunker down. I don't have to look up.
Uh now we this winter we do have to buff it out. It's got some deep scratches in it. And we got we left in the rainstorm a little bit early. It was still drizzling.
So my windshield it was hard to see. I did have to raise up to see over the windshield. But once we polish that out, it'll be like a brand new windshield and I'll be happy to. I didn't think I'd like it, but I do like that windshield.
And I rode it to church Wednesday night, so I come back on it at night. I don't like riding at night out here in the country. We got deer and things that come out in the road all the time.
And you just gota you just got to stay with it. There's no way you can avoid that. So, I don't like riding at night, but I didn't hit a single bug leaving church at night till I got back here to the country. Soon as I hit Trousell County, the bugs were waiting. And I was smiling the whole time. There wasn't a bug one in my beard or in my teeth.
It was great. They were all on the windshield.
So, the only reason I think I enjoy it so much is those those dagum wind deflectors on the forks.
They're great. I can smile and not eat my beard and not have it tickling up here or getting in my eyes.
I'm happy with that bike. I know at first I'm like, I don't know if I want to sell it or keep it. I'm keeping it.
I'm keeping it.
I ain't got Sugar Bear on it yet.
You gonna ride it with every time I ask her, she does this.
I don't know what that means. If there's any women on here, tell me what that means. When I ask what what is what's that mean? No. Because you got to give me a yes or a no.
Okay. All right.
Ah, Sean took his message away. He said no.
Retracted.
You can't see that. Look.
You see it?
>> That's not on yours. Uh, Riley up in the air. Okay. I just read that one. Joe Buck. My dream bike is a 48 pan head.
Yes, I love the panthe heads. Hey, where you at? Where's the camera?
I love the pan heads. I don't know. Um, everybody was like, "Nucklehead, knucklehead." They never did anything for me.
the pan heads to me I just I like I like how they run I don't necessarily Okay the the best sounding Harley to me is the Evo.
The Evo is the best sounding Harley.
They really got that potato potato potato potato figured out in the emotes.
Uh the shovel heads had a little bit of that. The pan heads don't.
If you're trying to get that potato potato, you'll get it for five seconds and then you know it'll go out of that rhythm. The Evo stay in it. You can set that idle down. You got it timed right.
You got to cam in it. especially it'll potato all day long. So, the best sounding bike to me is the Evo motor.
But the best running bike is the pan head. I like it. Now, with the pan head, you know, you got to kick it every time you want to start it. It's a fourspeed.
Uh it really needs another gear, but I, you know, I do 70 on my pan head in fourth gear, and it's not dyed out. it it runs good. So, I'm partial to the pan heads, but the the shovel head FXR is spoiling me with the starter and the five-speed, and it's great around curves, but that electric does good around curves, too.
Um, it's spoiling me with the electric start, 5-speed as well.
I'm getting spoiled, guys, is what I'm saying. I'm getting spoiled, but I do like a good chopper hardail every now and then.
Uh John Pearson, the chopper by Exile Cycles without the ex internal rake.
Nice.
That's a good dream bike.
Nice.
Uh John says Panda Garden. Yep, that's the name of it. I thought it was Panda Chinese Garden. Maybe it is just Panda Garden. Maybe underneath it it said Chinese Restaurant.
Pretty good place. Um and it's right there. Okay, if you know where that's at, we come in right by the college. So we we leave Gainesboro and we go down a road that runs by the river, really curvy, and then takes goes up a big hill and takes a real sharp curve. Uh I think it's Highway 136 maybe, but it comes out there by the college and runs right there by Panda Express, Panda Garden, and Harbor Freight there.
Okay, get back up here.
I've missed a lot. I'm sorry. Okay, the Cotman been watching uh the 82 shovel head videos. Why is it called a shovel head? Okay.
So, you have the knuckle head that the heads look like pair of knuckles.
You have the pan head. The top of that when you take them off, you turn it upside down, it looks like a pan. I've even seen some that they put a riveted handles to and you can cook out of them.
So, that's why it's called a pan head. A shovel head is called a shovel head because the curvature of the head looks like a shovel when you look at it at the top. And then the Evos, they're called block heads because their heads are very blocky. Look like a brick, a block.
So the twin cams, I don't guess they have do they have a name?
Uh they're called Twinkies sometimes.
Sometimes I've heard people call them Twinkies because two twin cams. Um, but I don't know if the twin cams have a name for the rockers for the rocker tops as you tell me if they do.
So that's why they're called a shovel head because the heads look like shovels.
Hello from South Texas. Hello Rob. Good to have you. Thanks for stopping by.
Sean looking for a good fork seal driver. Used one the used one of the blue box sets but had issues with interchangeable pieces staying in place.
The best fork seal driver that I use is an exhaust pipe.
So, go to O'Reilly's, take the old fork seal with you, and go to the exhaust pop section, and you can find all the pork drivers that a man could want. I've got three, I think, that are all different sizes on each end.
And you'll get one that'll start out with like a narrow side. And then at the very end, they'll be expanded for to go over the pipe.
And take your seal and kind of match up that expanded end where it sets right on the seal, but it's a little bit it's it doesn't cover over the seal. Then I take a piece of electrical tape and wrap around the end and loop it back inside.
And that is my slide driver. Been using it for years and years. Ever since I've been wrenching on bikes.
They're metal. They will not break down.
I just take the electric tape off, put new electric tape on, and it's as good as new.
Always work great. Never had an issue with electrical tape on it. It does not gouge down into. And if you're worried about that, just take the old seal, turn it around backwards, put the new seal on, slide the old seal on, then take the metal and just jab down in there. When you're done, take the old seill out and your new seal's in. You could do that.
So, they're cheap. I think I don't know.
Last time I bought one's like seven bucks.
It might be more now. I don't know.
Uh, James, for when my SNS turns to crap.
Did I miss something?
Maybe a SNS motor.
SNS makes good motors.
They make really good cars.
Tree Frog, can you make a video on how to install LED turn signals on a Yamaha Var stepbystep? Thanks. Yeah. Uh, I'd be happy to. I don't have one of those up here. Uh, and I like to do show and tell, so I like to put my hands on it and show you how to do it. So, the next time I have one up here, I definitely wouldn't mind walking you through that.
I don't work just on Harley's. Uh, now saying that, 95% of what I work on are Harley's, but I've worked on, as you can see in my videos, crotch rockets. I've worked on cruisers, Yamaha V Stars, um, Hondas, VLS's, Villa X's, and all kinds of Nomads and things like that. So, I work on pretty much anything on two wheels. Triumph. I got a couple of Triumphs up here.
So that we got to get running again and get out the door so they can enjoy them.
Uh so yeah, next time one comes in, I'll definitely do do that. Uh Michael says, "Scott Russell race uh Kawasaki ZX uh 750RS for team Muzzy." I know who that team is, so thank you for educating me on that. Mr. Daytona. John says the Cotton Man had a guy the other day tell me I looked like I was from the show Duck Dynasty because of my beard.
That was popular show. That's a good show back in the days. My kids loved watching that. And I mean you can't beat Phil.
He was a wise wise man. Straight shooter. Uh John Pearson or Sir Daytona or something like that.
Our Kansas Hit that like button and subscribe.
Let's go.
I like that.
Oh, look at this. This message is held for review.
Look at that. You ever seen that? I've never seen that before.
Uh, is it Why did they hold that for a review?
Okay. Sorry. I'm going to show that now.
So, you should see that now in the comments. I don't know why it was held for review. Here was what was held for review. Is it worth doing tell of the dragon in a big old Cadillac with your wife and kids? Yep. Go do that.
Now, if it's a limo, you're going to have trouble.
But yes, go do that. And there's a spot you can pull over that is the most popular spot for bikes to lay down, wreck boooos, and that's a good spot. A lot of photographers pull over there and take shots. Um, so that'll have a blast.
I'll have a good time.
Uh, crawler live. Sorry I'm late. How are y'all this evening? We're doing great. Uh, we're doing good.
Cotton Man, my dream bike is my 87 Heritage Soft Tail once it's done being built. That's good. Uh, the Evo soft tails ride so good. They're so much fun.
John Pierce, I don't like windshield look or the occasional buffet buffeted wind buffeting, but it lets me ride longer and not get tired. Wind wears an old guy out. You know what?
That's I never thought about that, but you're right. The wind can beat on you, especially u if you get wind gust in kind of head-on winds, they can wear you out sometimes. That's true.
I wear if I if I uh am riding openfaced or no windshield, I really love my three quarter helmet. I got that Bubble Shield and Bubble, my friend from church, gave me a chrome one I had put on yet. U so next Saturday I'll probably ride my shovelhead FXR. So I'm going to put that chrome one on there and see how that does. But I love that. Um, I still get the wind kind of up under that and I can kind of kick it out a gear or two and get even more wind up in my nose. So, I still get the wind. I just don't get all the critters and wind gust pounding my helmet, pounding my head. But I had thought about that. You're right about that.
What comment?
Which one? Mhawk. I haven't got there yet.
Oh, I'm out of order. I missed one.
Okay, thank you. My wife's checking the comments cuz this didn't show up in mine. Mailhog says, "I still have my 86 FXRD original owner. I cut my windshield down, so I looked right over it." Fun fact, the windshield height was high, so at that time, no need for safety glasses. You know what, Mel Hog, I'm glad you brought that up because when I ride that uh when I ride Miss Liberty, I don't wear glasses. I keep them up here on my clutch cable right there where it sets in the fairing. I keep a pair there in case rain or something from the falls out of the sky or we're on a dusty road or something. But I don't use them with that windshield. And that I've never rode like that before. So I use a little skull helmet when I ride Miss Liberty.
No sunglasses.
And uh yeah, it's kind of weird. I'm like, this don't feel right. But once you get used to it, it's kind of fun. So here's what I'm going to do. I'm since I'm going to keep Miss Liberty, I've got to have a matching helmet.
So, here's my question before we go because it's already been an hour. I can't believe it. Feels like 15 minutes.
What What do I need on the side?
Uh, I've been looking at like Statue of Liberty emblems, like a sticker, a vinyl sticker.
Do I get my good friend Chase Spears at Paint by Spears on YouTube? Check him out. Do I get him to paint that liberty on the side? Do I try to find like a like a tank badge replica and get that on the helmet?
You tell me. But I want a helmet to match. Oh, hey, somebody sent 10 Butler Customs motorcycle shop gift memberships.
What?
What is that? Does that mean 10 people get to be members?
Oh, crawler life. Thank you so much. If that's what that means, that's awesome of you to do. Look at that.
Look at all these people that are receiving memberships.
Look. Do you see it? Can you see it on yours? You can't see that.
>> That is so cool.
Now, correct me if I'm wrong. Chronife is this guy right here. Right.
Go look at that box on top of that box.
Chron, I've got your bike. Right. You've got the 99 Heritage here or classic Ultra Classic. Is his name on the box?
>> I thought it was.
I think this is your bike. That's next up for the lift.
Tell me if I'm wrong from Virginia. He brought the cookies.
Yeah, I think that's you. But thank you so much. 10 people got to be members because of you. That is so cool. Yeah, he said yes. Yeah, that's him. Thank you. That's so that's so awesome. Okay, I'm looking at here. I need to look here.
That is so cool. Awesome.
Uh, okay. John Pearson around a by Roaring River up Will Overton Hill through Dodson Branch. Okay, we went through Dodson Branch because I think there's a church there, maybe a school there. It said Dodson. My wife's maiden name is Dot D O T Dotson. So the Dodson stood out to me into Kville. Nice route to ride. I go that way when going down to Red Bull Springs.
So Red Bull Springs is right by us.
Well, Lett's closer to us and in Red Bull Springs.
Uh James says T win twin dummies.
Uh, no. My my dream to go back in matching frame.
Uh, crawler live says, "My wife watched one of the videos with me the other day and when you called mayo bread lotion.
[laughter] Now she's asking if I want bread lotion on my sandwiches. Uh, what have you started?" I bet you say yes every time to the bread lotion. My wife told me about that. She said she was watching a Tik Tok or something about women in perry menopause and how they're they're forgetting the words and there was one woman that commented that she forgot the word ma may man may man may man may man may man may man may man may man may man may man may man may man may man may man may man may man may man may man may man may manise and said bread lotion and she said I laughed and let I'm like I'm gonna have to use that that's pretty good. So, I stole that from my wife uh reading a Tik Tok comment.
Uh John Pearson, my dream engine as a TP engineering V twin from Tom Peron.
Yeah, you're right, man.
Um now, I thought that he built just like race engines. Does he build stock engines, cruising engines? Wow.
Uh, Michael, my dream bike is a Confederate American GT. I've seen I saw one the other day on Marketplace, a Sportster Confederate, but you got to be careful and check the van and verify they are true Confederate bikes. I think they only made what, 300 of them or something like that. Very, very few. And most of them are in museums or in a Harley store somewhere.
Uh, hard to find.
Uh, lol. I just bought a chrome bubble shield for my three quarter inch three quarter helmet on Amazon. You're the man. Love your videos. Thank you.
Appreciate it. So, um, I wish and I'm sorry to all my members.
I should have videoed our ride. I like to do that for our members. I should have videoed a ride, but I took liberty and I don't know where to put the camera because I can't put it on my helmet. Uh because if if I go 70 m an hour, it kind of the camera goes back and then you're looking at the airplanes in the sky.
And with the windshield being scratched up, I can't put it on my handlebars.
So, I didn't take it. But I'm going to take uh my FXR show next Saturday. So I'll bring you along because I can put you right there on the handlebars and you can see.
So I'll have my chrome bubble on and y'all can tell me how it looks on there.
So now I'm seeing the 10 free memberships of Crawler Life. Man, look at all these new members.
Uh that's awesome. Uh tell me crawl, do you get to pick the members or do you just put it up there and then the first come first >> Did you click it?
>> No.
>> Oh. Oh, >> they can click it. So people watching see that and they can click it >> and and they can get it. That's awesome, man. That is so cool.
That's awesome.
Uh John says a tank badge on the back of the helmet. Liberty head with eagle on sides.
[laughter] Yes. Hey, I'm gonna back out of here. I want to show you the Liberty badge, the sticker vinyl that I found.
Um, let me find it real quick.
See if I can get it to pull up here.
See if I can get a bigger view.
Okay, so here's the here's the emblems I found. Let me try to get the glare out.
I thought something like that on both sides. Well, gosh, it's got a bad glare there. See that?
And then maybe on the very back do like a USA or something or ride free is what's on the trunk and a Yeah, that's what's on the trunk. Maybe something like that.
I don't know. The tank emblem is pretty cool because it's got the Statue of Liberty and then it's got a ring around it that says bysentennial or something like that on it. It's got the year I think or I don't know Statue of Liberty Foundation or something on it. So, I thought something like that might be cool. But I like that idea. That's pretty sweet. All right. How do I get back to here? Okay, now I'm back.
All right.
Uh Carler Life says, "It helps your channel. I think you get a percentage of the membership fees."
Yeah. Uh everybody that's a member, uh they pay monthly and I get a large percentage. I think it's like 70% or 80% of the membership fees. I think I get a bigger percentage of that. Now, as far as my what I make on YouTube, I think it's kind of a 50-50 split. I think YouTube gets half and I get half.
I think that's kind of how it works.
Um, VW23, how's everybody tonight?
Everybody's good. We've been on here a minute, but I ain't getting off right now. You go when you want to go. I'm having too much fun. I needed this because for the last several lives, I've been talking or showing something or doing the live bike show, and this is fun to just read comments and hang out, chew the cut.
Uh, John Pearson, I know where your shop is. You probably don't remember, but my son used to be your fed. Yeah, okay. I remember that. He's the one that told me about you. That's cool. Uh the UPS guy we got now, he's really cool.
He's been in the shop. Uh the FedEx, I don't get a lot of FedEx packages, so they don't come up here enough that I that they're regulars to me. Of course, we know our local post office box folks, but I know the the UPS guy. Um, he's always fun to cut up with. Uh, Everson Adventure, thanks for the membership.
Oh, he got one. Cool.
Uh, uh, Jay Smith, what is the best, easiest, 1200 sport shirt to wrench on? I'm looking at a 2003. Yep, that's a good one.
03s and ups are pretty good.
They're fuel injected. You can still get them carved. I think up to 2006, you could still get them carbureted. Uh I would, you know, some folks love the injection system, some folks love the carburetor.
If you're going to be doing a lot of wiring, definitely go with carburetor.
Um if you're going with fuel injection, they are kind of less maintenancefree until they aren't.
But if you're handy and want a wrenching, it doesn't really matter. Um, but they, you know, the Sportster is the longest running model in the history of Harley. Um, from the 50s to they took them away, I think, but then now they're back, I hear. I don't know. So, I guess they're still making them now. I guess they were so popular when they stopped making them. I heard they sold the machinery to China and now I guess they're making them again from what I hear. Uh the new Deadwood came out. Have y'all seen the Deadwood? Sharp looking bike. That looks kind of promising.
Uh though they brought the red, white, and blue back. That was pretty cool to see. Uh so I can Harley's kind of bringing some vintage back in the mix.
Of course, it's still all book boxed and computerized.
Um, so but yeah, 2003 is a good one. And like I said in that buying a project by Harley Sports, you're going to find them to three grand all day long. And you can get some kind of newer ones in that price range, too.
Crawler life. No, it's not random. Okay.
So, they have to click it to get it.
Uh, CT says, "Looking at the airplanes and stuff." Uh, race hard 3000. Is the Triumph Trophy still in the shop? Yes.
And now there's another.
They're coming. I promise you they're coming. Uh, I've got them in order. I've got them lined up. I know exactly what I've got them on a board back there. I know exactly what we're going to be working on.
I've just got them so backed up.
Literally, I know what we're doing for the rest of the year now. So, they're coming. And since I have two trophies in the shop, I can kind of play around with both and I can see before I buy parts what we need to buy. So, that's good.
So, yeah, that'll be coming up very soon.
Uh, what's the best digital torque wrenches to get? is cheap as good as the more expensive ones.
Okay, starting out, there is nothing wrong with the clicky clack torque wrenches. They're fine.
That's what I had for years. I just recently, probably two years ago, maybe. I got a good set of AC Delco digital torque wrenches. I got a quarter inch, I got the 38 inch, and I got the half inch. I got all three. I think the I think the half inch and 38 inch came as a kit and then the quarter inch came by itself or vice versa. Uh but I saved up for it and I think I had some folks donate to it so I could get them. If you can afford it, go with the digital ones.
They are awesome because I can set it and as I'm getting into close to the torque, it starts to to uh to ding, starts to beep and uh it vibrates in the handle. And then when I get to torque, the vibration goes solid and the beep goes solid. So, I know I'm there. And I can look at it and see what the actual torque was. So, say I got it set to torque at 17. And I go till it beeps and I look at it, I can see, oh, it was 17.2. So, that's pretty close. So, as you use it more, you get used to getting right on where you want it to be. Another thing is the ones that I have do angle torques. So, like on headbolts on Harley's, you'll set the initial well, you'll torque and then set another torque. Then you'll set the initial torque and then you'll do a 90 degree as your final. So usually you would mark on the head, mark on the bolt and try to get as close to 90 as you could. Well, on this I can actually set the degree and just torque it like normal and it'll beep when it's at that degree mark. That's awesome. Your clicky clackies won't do that unless you put an angle on it.
You could do that. The AC duckos that I use are on my Amazon store. To get to my Amazon store, there's a link in all my videos that has my Amazon store in it.
Click that link. Takes you over to my Amazon store. Every tool in my Amazon store are things that I personally use.
So, I would never add anything to my store that I do not use. So, you don't see any sponsors there or any paid promos there. It's all stuff I personally bought or somebody has gifted to me to try out that I've said these are good to use.
Um, so you can go there and find that there. Also, it's not just tools. It's things for my YouTube channel that I use and that I bought and it's things that I use for just motorcycle riding and things like that.
Uh, so if you can afford it, I would go with those good AC Delos.
All right. Sean says, "I like AC Delco 140 for the 38 and a half inch."
Uh, Cotton Man, I see a lot of videos talking about how Harley riders are aging out and the younger generation is not buying Harley's. Any thoughts on that? Okay.
There is a new generation of younger riders that love Harley. Here's what they love. They love the vintage. They love choppering it out. They love raking it out. They love the little rabbit ear bars. They love the Frisco style look.
They love the hard tails. They love the light little Sportster motors throwing in a little light frame.
There's a whole new young generation called Harley hipsters that are out there that absolutely are eating up Harley's left and right.
I think thinking that the older Harley riders are gone and what's going to happen to Harley? I think that's a fallacy. Here's why. When I was young, I did not look at Harley's. I did not want a Harley. I'd see an old man with a beard on a Harley, I'd wave at it. I wanted the fast crotch rockets, leaning with my knee in the curve, doing the wheelies, doing the bump stop, doing all the things. But as I got older, I wanted more cruiser, bigger motorbikes.
And so I naturally fell into Harley's.
So I think as these younger generations of course not a lot of them want Harley's but as they get older they will want Harley's and Harley will be there to provide bikes for them. If you look at the Harley stats right now who's buying the Harley's are 40 year olds and 50 year olds. as they mature out of those sports bikes, they're wanting a cruiser and they're going to Harley.
Um, I think Harley needs to get back to very solid bikes that are dependable that you can work on in your own garage or living room or shop that you can do your own maintenance on. Get away from all these EPA stuff. Pay the fines. It's going to be worth it. get away from all the computers and gadgets. And they hardly tried the LiveWire.
They put a lot of money in the LiveWire project. It failed. It just failed. So, get back to just the stripped down basics of a bike because when I ride, I don't want a computer screen in my face.
I want to see the road. I want to experience the feel of just me and a gas a tank of gas between my legs with a hot explosive motor under. I want that adventure.
And so I think as Harley sees that, maybe they'll go back to their roots and become that great company again.
And what you'll find then is that the younger people will latch on to that and go towards that. So I think that's why you see the younger kids not wanting Harley because they're still into the Yamahas and Suzukis and Kawasakis.
They will come around though as they get older.
Uh BMX, this is cool. I'm catching you live. Thank you. I'm gonna click on this guy.
Is that my son?
Is that Reed? Okay. I just want to make sure. Okay. My son started a YouTube channel.
Made me so happy. I'm like, "Oh, that's cool." Cuz none of my boys I never forced them to be out here in the shop and to learn what I do. I always thought if if that's what they're supposed to do, they'll naturally be drawn to it.
But they weren't. They went their own ways. Now, we still got little ones growing up that might be into it later.
Uh, but they all went their own way and they're in their own adventures and living their own lives and it's wonderful to see the humans they've become.
Now, I've got a grandson, Brewer. You'll see him, you see him quite often in the videos. He's in the next panad video.
He had to come out when it started up.
He was out here. He's probably going to be the next mechanic out here. the bike shop guy. But our son Reed, he started his own gaming YouTube channel and he's doing so good and I'm so proud of him.
Uh I thought that might have been him.
Uh but it's not. So um I've not I've not shared that.
At first I'm like, "Oh, I'm going to share his channel with my subscribers."
And I'm like, "No."
I watched one of his videos. I don't know what he's saying in the videos.
He's calling these all these items and things they're buying and uh things they're winning and earning and then he does he plays this gorilla tag. It's a VR headset. So, he's in his room boxing and doing stuff and jumping and climbing up walls and I don't know what he's doing. I don't know what he's saying.
I'm like, "Well, if I share them with my subscribers, they they'll go over there and just subscribe, right?" And then I'm like, "No, that's not fair."
Like, I want him to earn those subscribers. I want him to be in the trenches and make it on his own. I don't want I don't want him to have dad's help. I want him to make it on his own.
Uh, so he's he's doing really good. He just hit over 500 subscribers and in the gaming YouTube world that's really good because it's kind of oversaturated.
So I'm really happy for him. So uh James Smith, amen to that. All right, man. We've been on here almost an hour and a half. Doesn't feel like it.
Doesn't feel like it.
Thank you guys so much for hanging out.
I'm not gone yet, but I'll give I know there's a lag in the video, so I'll give you a second if you want to uh ask anything or comment on anything or give any suggestions.
Uh there are some things I want people I want to thank. Thank you Crawler Live for those 10 membership gifts. That's wonderful. That is awesome. Thank you so much for that. Those folks can now go back and watch all my membership videos.
That's so cool.
Uh Ricky, hi. Thanks. Can we stop by your shop? We live in Colombia. Yes, anytime. Just do me a favor, reach out to me to make sure I'm here because there's so many times I'm not in the shop filming.
I pretty much live out here, but there are times I'll run out to the part store or especially during softball or go I leave early for games and things like that. So, my schedule is pretty full packed to the gills. So, please just reach out to me first. Email is the easiest. Um, and make sure I'm going to be here.
Let's schedule it is what I'm saying.
You're welcome to come up, but I'll tell you this.
People come up thinking there's going to be some big production, some nice fancy shop, and they look at it and say, "Oh, okay.
All right. See you."
It's just a guy in a hot box, wrenching off the box.
But you're welcome to come and sweat with crawler life. You're welcome.
Uh, Michael, I heard a rumor that Harley is bringing out a knucklehead bike.
Anyone else heard that? I have not heard that.
Listen, if they try to bring a knucklehead, their version of the knucklehead back, there better not be more than five wires on that pipe.
Don't bring a knucklehead back and have it water cooled and computer operated and fuel inject. Don't you do that.
Don't do that, Harley.
If you're going to bring a vintage bike back, make it vintage.
Slap you a carburetor on there. Yep, I said it. Don't put a computer on there.
Now, you don't have to run points.
You could put, you know, an electronic system in it, but no more than three wires coming out of it. That'd be good.
That'd be good. But no, I've not heard that.
Uh, BMX, keep doing your videos. It helps me with doing repairs, even though I haven't had to do any yet.
Awesome.
Well, if you have a bike, there will be a moment you will.
I don't care what brand of bike you have, you're gonna be working on it.
When things go wrong, they just do. Just like any car or truck, they're just things going to break down on them.
Cotton, man.
Uh, thank you so much for your time, Kevin. Hey, I love these lives because this is my chance to hear from you guys and the videos I make. I can't do that.
Uh, I can't stop and say, "Hey, what do you guys think about this? What should I do here?
How does this look? Should we replace this whatnot or do that? I can't I can't do that. So, this is my time once a month to really hear back from you guys.
Uh Rick, uh also thanks for your faith.
Yeah, awesome. I do love the Lord.
Uh hey, there's your taco man there. Uh I was thinking next week. Cool.
I'm here. Oh, yeah. I'm glad you caught it. So, yeah. I I try to wait and put out the announcement for the live on like the week of so that people don't say, "Oh, I thought it was last week or this week or next week." I try to kind of keep it that week. And then I'll try I've been trying on a Sunday, maybe like an hour before putting out another post to the community on YouTube or to my Facebook. And Facebook's doing really well. We've got almost uh 25,000 followers on Facebook now. It's doing pretty good. Tik Tok's growing a little slower, but I don't know what I'm doing on there. Uh I think I've got like 1,500 subs uh Tik Tok followers.
And in uh YouTube, we hit 18,100 today.
So, that's cool.
Uh Rick, want to get a shirt? Awesome.
You can go to butlercustoms.com and pick you one up or just email me directly and I can ship it out to you.
Uh, BMX, we have cash app as well. So, you can just cash app me and I can just Oh, yeah. Well, then just get it when you're here then if you're the one coming from Columbia. Yeah, sure. Just get it here while you're here. We try to keep uh in our shirts uh two of each size is in stock.
Uh, and then if our hoodies, we don't keep any in stock. I think maybe this fall we're going to buy some to have here. Um, so what we don't have in stock, we just order from our printers and our printers ship it straight to your address.
Our hats we have made locally so we can keep those in stock. And our patches.
Oh, look. Oh, you got your taco money, sugar bear. $25 for taco. Now you gotta come on over here. Now they're they're paying to see the taco face.
>> Tacos.
>> Oh yeah. So she's going to pop in here and say hi.
So she's been hanging out right over here off screen. I love having her out here.
So thank you for the taco money. She will probably use that tomorrow because we're helping our daughter and son-in-law move tomorrow and we'll be running back and forth uh helping them move. She'll work up a sweat. She'll earn that taco money tomorrow. So, thank you for that.
Um, let's see.
BMX. That's how my garage is. But I have milling machine and lathes there. Man, I've wanted to have I wanted to get a metal lathe forever.
There's been so many uh weird thread size pitch bolts and stuff that I thought, man, I if I had a lathe, I could just make this. Or like a spacer.
I'm like, if I had a lathe, I could just make this. Uh, but they're expensive, man. They're expensive. So, I don't have Plus, right now, I don't I don't really have the room for one. I got to get some bikes out.
Okay, Crawler Life, hope you and Sugar Bear enjoyed the rest of the evening. It was surreal to see the shop in person where all the magic happens. It's not the shop, it's the man in it. That's cool.
And hey, your bike is next on the list.
So once the pan head is off, the 1999 Ultra Classic is coming on the lift. And boy, we're going to be doing a ton of work on that. So if you got an early Twin Cam or the uh Touring Glide or Touring Classic, you're going to want to see that. It's definitely going to be an adventure together.
So, uh, I have all kinds of them, but new to Harley's.
Uh, Jason, I stopped in a Harley dealership the other day, Friday, to pick up two screws for my front brake lid. Cost me $40 for two screws.
Oh, God bless America. Godspeed. Good night.
I have good luck. Okay. If they're if they're standard thread, I have good luck at TSC.
We have a TSC and we have an Ace Hardware in the next town about 20 minutes away. I like Ace Hardware because you buy the bolts and washers and screws and and nuts. You buy them in bulk. So just throw them in a bag and they weigh them. So you get a really good price.
Ace hardware, you got to write them down individually, but they have a good variety of things. Uh so I had pretty good luck there. But yeah, metal lathe and I could just make what I needed.
But then you'd have to have the raw metal. So I don't I don't know if I've come out any better.
Uh DJ, sorry sir, but you are so much more than just a guy in a box wrenching on box. Thank you for everything you do.
Much appreciated. I appreciated it that DJ, but really I am. If you were to come up here and hang out and sit in a chair while I film, you'd say, "Hey, you're just like that on camera as you are off camera." I I just am who I am. I I don't try to beat anybody else.
That's just who I am. So, I'm happy that folks like that because if they didn't, I'd be in trouble because I couldn't be anybody else. So, crawler live. Still liking the idea of a live working on a bike raw footage.
That'd be cool. Um, I don't know how much we get done in an hour together. The live would be longer than an hour. I guarantee you that. I try to put in eight to 10 hour days up here. Especially when I film, it takes sometimes 12 hours when I'm filming. So, uh, it'd be a long live, but that would be fun.
>> Pop in and out. Yeah, I could do that.
You know what? Let's do this. Let's test it on the members only first.
See how that because I can do members only lives now. Let's see how that works. get some feedback from them and then maybe do a public live uh live wrenching or something like that. That's that's a good idea. Thank you for that.
Uh Everson, tell your mama I said hi. I sure will. I'll probably talk to her tomorrow.
Uh sent some taco money. Thank you.
Enjoy the day. Kevin Cotman, can you order shirts larger than a 4XL? No. Uh, our printers only go up to a 4x.
Well, no, wait.
That's just in hoodies.
I'll check. I think yes, because Hey, somebody ordered a 5XO once, I think. All right. Uh, Sugar Bear's writing it down. She's going to check for you. I'll message you back on that. I'll comment on this.
Message you back. Cotton man said, "Hello, sugar bear."
She waved.
She's writing down the shirt stuff.
Oh, that's delayed. They probably when you came into the video, he said you made his day. See, you need to be over here beside me. She's warming up to it one day. I guess we got to get give her some incentives and then she'll be out here. So, you guys think of a good incentive that would that would get Sherbar sitting here beside me and for the whole life.
BMX said they're easy to make. Cool.
I've been wanting one metal a for a long time.
John Old Triumph Norton uh Witworth uh lathe would be handy for original restorations. Yes, it would.
PG says uh had my shift linkage come apart by 80 miles from home. Oh goodness. Had no tools in the middle of nowhere connected up with my wife's hair tie. I have a tool road now. What tools do you carry? Oh, good question, PG. Okay.
When I go out on the shovelhead FXR, I love it.
I hate that I have nowhere to put tools because I love to have tools with me.
Harbor Freight has a little small tool kit.
We were in Harbor Freight yesterday waiting for the storm to pass and I was on Miss Liberty and I had no tools for her yet. So I'm like, let me go in here and get a little tool kit and uh to have for her. So, what I like to carry, um, some Phillips head, flathead screwdrivers, variety of sizes, short ones and long ones, zip ties, a pack of zip ties, and a little tool kit, ratchet kit. So, I went in there and I'm like, "Okay, it's an Evo motor, so I need the bigger socket, uh, 1316 socket." Uh, the little tool kits didn't have that. They only went up to 9/16.
like shoot. And then they had mixed with standard and metric. Well, I'm not going to use the metric.
Uh, so here's what I did. I went over to the adjustable wrenches. They had a pack of three adjustable wrenches. Big one, middle one, and small one. Zip tied together for 12 bucks. So, I got a set of adjustable wrenches, monkey wrenches, croissant wrenches.
I got a little ratcheting handheld ratcheting screwdriver set with a bunch of different flatheads and Phillips heads and even some Torx.
And I got a pack of zip ties. So, that's what I have in Liberty right now. And my pan head. I carry more. I've got an actual ratchet in there with a spark plug socket.
I carry a little more tools in the pan head that are for the pan head. So I think that's enough in Liberty now. And when I ride in a group, most others have other Allen heads and things like that, like for the uh rocker head tops and things like that. So uh but a set of Allen wrenches would be good. We were out on a ride one time and rocker top, somebody's rocker top was loose. my son-in-laws and we stopped and Doodle who rides with us had a set of Allen wrenches and we were able to tighten them down and go on down the road. That was good.
Crawler life. Yeah, sorry for all the work.
Um John, odd timing on that tool roll question. I was just interrupted by a stick on tool roll ad.
They're listening.
They're listening.
The AI data centers are coming for you.
They're listening.
Okay. I don't know why this guy's comments keep being held. There is nothing this guy's saying that should not be. Okay. I'm going to show it now.
Uh I'm sorry. I don't know why your comments be kept being held. It's f lover. So, what do you think of New Jersey? Would you be willing to mobile studio up north and wrench on my Harley?
>> Yes.
>> My wife says yes. What are you going to see in New Jersey? It's close to New York.
Oh my goodness. Mobile wrenching. I don't know. I guess I'd have to pack the van down with will we drive all the way or fly in and just buy tools there and then just give them to him to have.
I'd be open to that. That'd be pretty cool experience. I think Bcript Garage tried to do that. I think he called it a a day with Derek or something like that.
I don't know how that ever went.
So, that might be something I'd be open to. Sure, send me an email. We can talk more about it.
So, anyway, on the carrying tools, I don't like that about the shovel head.
So, I've been looking at those roll roll up tool pouches that go in the front of the uh above the headlight or under the headlight.
I've been looking at those, but I can't find any that kind of matches the leather that I've got. So, I need one.
I guess I need to make one. Maybe that'll be a good video. Maybe we can make a roll up leather pouch to go in the front of the shovel head and I can carry my tools that way. I just don't I always carry my Well, I got them right here in my pocket. No, I got them inside because I didn't want them right up. I always carry my pocket pliers. I always have those. Um, the only thing I wish it didn't have that I I wish I had on those were snips on the tips, but I always carry on a pocket knife. I got this case knife for Father's Day. I love that turquoise color. It's a case mini trapper. I love the mini trappers. And thank you, uh, Sugar Bear got this for me for Father's Day.
Uh, Stockton tool roll.
Nit stickman. Not stick. Okay. Stockton tool roll. I'll have to check that out.
Most of the ones I found, they look cheap or they're really like a pouch thing. They're huge. If I do find them in in a brown leather, they're like a really light brown. They don't match the bike. I don't want two different brown colors going on. I tried really hard to match this the side bags, which are very small, and the uh air cover leather to the seat leather. I really tried to match that. I think I did okay with that. But I've got a bunch of that leather left, but it's real thin. So, it wouldn't do good as a tool roll. I think I need something a little thicker.
We can play around with it and see. I just know about I've never stitched leather, so I don't know about that how that would work.
[snorts] Uh, BMX, I teach classes at the local college here. Cool. In machining.
Awesome.
Well, if I ever get a met metal lathe, I might have to reach out to you and say, "How do you work this?"
Um, okay. All of these are being held for review. Now, they're holding Cotton Man's comments.
She should read your comments when you do a live wrenching video so you don't have to stop and read comments while you're trying to work.
What an idea. I could be out here working and wrenching and sweating and filming and have you in my ear talking.
I cotton man. I have to pray about that.
I'm kidding. That'd be good. You'd be sweating out of here. We'd have to get you one of those cooling rags like I got to where you could have mine.
[snorts] We'll try that in the fall when it's really nice out here.
I have like two weeks in the spring and two weeks in the fall that are perfect weather out here. That's about it.
One day though, we'll have central heat and air and a ceiling. One day.
Uh, I don't know your age. Okay, that's a private conversation. I won't read that.
Uh, have the Amish make you a tool roll.
Good idea.
I'm trying to get a contact for the local Amish here to come up and price me a ceiling.
uh because I've they've built several uh garages and barns and shops for other folks that are not Amish in our community here. So, they do that. I might I'm trying to get them to come up to give me a price on the ceiling, but I want to have it where when I do get central heat, they can run and drop vents in. And I'm going to do new lighting when I do new ceiling. I know they won't help with the lighting. So, I don't know if I need to use them or not or just have a company say we do it all.
We'll put the central heating area in.
We'll put the ceiling in. We'll put the lights in. I think that might be better.
It would cost more, but I tried to do it myself and I feel miserable because I failed and I wasted a lot of money. So, I still got all the foam boards.
I could use them as extra insulation in insul in insulation on the installation.
I use them on the sidewalls over here that's not insulated. So, uh I have a tool bag and carry everything but the kitchen sink. The one day I don't bring it, my brother's bike breaks down 200 miles away from home.
Good memories.
Yeah, I I I did not like riding a shovel head with no tools. I felt I felt naked and I was praying a lot. Lord, let me let it be a good ride. Let me get home.
But she shovel head's done great. Uh pan head does great. Uh Lucy now I've been broken down twice on her. Both times it was the rear main uh teeth, sprocket teeth come separated from the hub and then I tried to rivet it back, come separated again and then I finally just welded it to the hub. It's been fine ever since.
Muddy Pond Leather Shop may be able to make you. I've never heard of that. So, yeah, send me a contact on that. Um, St. Snider, good night everyone. Got to get my beauty sleep. All right, same here.
Man, this I think is officially our longest live that we've had. Even the bike show wasn't this long. So, I'll give you a moment to say your goodbyes. Thank you to each and everyone that come on here, just hung out, even if you didn't comment, just hung out in the background. Thank you so much all of our members, subscribers, even if you never subscribe or never comment, if you watch my videos, thank you so much because that's how I get paid. Now, yes, as I have more members, YouTube pushes me out more, more folks share, and of course, I get more views.
So, I get that. But I've never been big on saying, "You got to subscribe. Why haven't you subscribed? You're an idiot if you don't subscribe." I'm not that kind of guy. So, so far it's worked.
It's been a slow roll, a slow burn, but sometimes that's the best burn. So, uh 3:00 a.m. comes early. Oh, man. You should be in bed right now.
Uh right now. Don't know how the Amish are around your area, but where we live in the Amish community have people that do everything from the ground up. Yeah, it's kind of the same here. I don't know about electrical stuff. I I don't know if they deal with that or not. Uh the ones we have here, they don't have power. I know that they don't drive.
They do like McDonald's. I know that.
So, probably not watching this live either.
Never seen one go by on a motorcycle.
That'd be cool. I'd take a picture and show y'all if I ever saw one.
Not everyone could be good nationals, right?
Great stuff.
Go have a bacon sandwich with mayonnaise. You know what?
I've not had dinner yet. That is exactly what I'm going to go in and Sugar Bear hopefully is going to make me.
Yeah, she's saying yeah, I bought a bacon sandwich with some bread lotion and some maybe some smooching later.
Okay, she was she was down for that. All right, good chat tonight. Yeah, this is this is what I like live to be where you guys comment, we talk, and just hang out. No plans, no schedule, nothing to do but just hang out. Thank y'all so much. I want to keep reading the comments. If I miss anything, I'll try to go back and answer them. If you need to reach me, just email me. My email is down in all the descriptions of my videos. My Amazon store is down there.
My cash app's down there. Every way you could get a hold of me should be down there. Also on Facebook, you can message me. I'll try to get back to you on that.
But YouTube's the best and email is the best. Thank you guys so much. And please do me a favor. Tell your mama. I said hi.
