Sports fans often become obsessed because sports provide identity, community, and belonging in a world where finding genuine community has become increasingly difficult; this obsession can escalate to extreme behavior when fans attach their entire self-worth to team performance, and the modern lack of 'third places' (social gathering spaces separate from work and home) intensifies this dependency, while sports gambling further compounds the problem by adding financial stakes to emotional investment.

Why People Lose Their Minds Over Sports
Added:beating up people in the street.
>> These dudes are gambling addicts.
>> You have their name on your back.
>> Sports fans are getting more extreme.
They're getting more emotional. And in some cases, they're even getting more violent. From fights in the stands to people fighting each other over the jersey that they're wearing, it feels like some fans have just completely lost their minds. However, I don't think that this is all just purely about sports because for a lot of people out there, the team that they're watching, the team that they're supporting, it's no longer just entertainment. It's their identity.
It's their community. It's where they find belonging, purpose, connection, all in a world where all of that seems out of reach to most people out there.
Finding community in general has just seemed to become just harder to have come across. So, if you like this kind of honest real commentary, be sure to subscribe and let's get right into this video.
>> This is just ignorant.
And what we're seeing here, this is most recently the Knicks versus the Spurs in like the NF, not NFL. Wow. The NBA um halftime sports, they're shooting the ball, the sports, the the the basketball game, the playoffs, whatever the hell's going on that uh they're going to the championship or whatever. And whether they win or lose, the fans are in the streets riding. And it's mainly the New York Knick Knicks fans. It's them [ __ ] Nicks, the [ __ ] Nicks. They are out there riding in the streets beating people up for wearing a Spurs jersey and acting a fool. And it's crazy because we've seen this behavior across the board. There's like the Eagles fans and the football um soccer games. We've seen fans act crazy, but I feel like this is like next level. I feel like maybe it's cuz of social media and we're seeing more of it, but it seems way more out of pocket and way just ruthless. It's one thing. It It's not Okay, I'm not condoning it, but it's one thing if they're just acting like this just because they lost, but even when they're winning, they're equally destructing their own city. It It makes no sense.
It's kind of commentary, the kind of clip that we've seen. There was a one clip of them um rumaging through a Five Guys. What are you doing with Five Guys?
Tearing down signs. You got people hiding behind police over what sports.
The team ain't paying you. They don't even know you exist. You're not getting paid for any of this. You're acting like a plum fool for what? Grown man. Here we go. This is about to piss me off because I think like this is gayer than me, man.
Like this is honestly a grown man wearing another man's last name on their back, screaming at the TV, screaming at this group of men for them to perform how you want them to perform.
I'm not even screaming over men like that. You screaming over more men than me and I'm the gay one. Make that make sense. This is gay as hell. Grown ass men fighting, looting, beating each other up in the streets over what other grown men are doing with a ball.
I can't. I can't.
>> One thing I want to touch on, bro. Did you see the Knicks fans after the game beating up people in the street?
>> Can I Can I touch on that? Like, >> that was some >> This This is my thing, bro. Like, I guarantee you ain't going to get none of that in San Antonio.
>> None.
>> Because a lot of the people just drunk from having a good time at the game and they go home. But like when it gets to the point like it it says a lot not only about the fans but about the people in New York.
>> Yes.
>> Because we know like like even it's a lot of people that's from New York that understand how good for basketball would be good if the Knicks won a championship. You got people that's not even from New York rooting for the Knicks just because of the long the long uh drought. You know what I'm saying?
And even though people not from New York, a lot of people are Knicks fans.
Like it's one of the it's like the Cowboys. It's one of the biggest organizations. So you have to like it somewhat. You know what I'm saying?
Everybody's rooting for y'all. But when y'all do stuff like this, >> this shit's weak.
>> It's like that's the weakest [ __ ] you can do. Jump on people. It's the weakest thing you can do. And you're making more people not even like want to be a Knicks fan. You're making more people look at your whole the whole team all the fan base and be like, "That's actually disgusting. I hope you don't win because of how you're acting. Why your team wins? You destroy your own city. You're chasing the other team's bus wanting to attack them. You're throwing eggs at their head. This [ __ ] don't make no damn sense. Again, gay gay grown ass men doing this. Grown ass men. But let anybody else have another niche hobby you want to pick on them for being weird or eclectic. Let somebody be someone that's into knitting, crocheting, a furry, whatever it may be. That's weird.
That's disgusting. How could you do that? These hobbies are weird. Yada yada. Look at you looking like boooo the fool out there running around with a bunch of men, grown men screaming around, prancing over other grown men.
I don't get it. I don't I mean, I'm starting to get it. Like, we're going through this video. I understand why they act the way they act, but I don't understand why you optionally choose to act that way. We optionally choose to be that way. Why? Like, you are paying more attention to this old grown ass men on the TV than your own life.
That's pitiful. It's actually pitiful.
The videos of the Spurs fans getting attacked by New York Knicks fans are brutal, embarrassing, totally dumb. Have to counter though. You have to be smarter than that if you're a Spurs fan.
Like, you cannot be that stupid.
>> Okay. Yes, I do agree with this. I think that if you see how crazy these New York fans are acting and you're optionally going outside wearing like a Spurs jersey knowing that they're actively hunting them down, you're not asking for it. But it's like you should be more knowledgeable of like how they're going to treat you. And it's unfortunate because they literally chasing people like it's like slaves running away from the plantation. Go get them. We got one.
We got one. They're literally chasing down black. Even though it's black people doing it, majority, it's black people chasing those black people down the street for a different jersey that they're wearing. You're on the wrong plantation, buddy. That's how that [ __ ] look. Crazy. So, yeah, if you're a Spurs fan in New York, you shouldn't wear the jersey just cuz out of like your safety concerns. But on the flip side, it's sad that it's even gotten to that point. It's sad that as a society, as a culture, especially in New York, you are so weak-minded to where you can't even tolerate or handle someone else wearing a different team jersey. Especially if you won. If you won, they look stupid wearing the jersey. Like, flip your perspective that way. And if your team lost, you lost. I don't know what to tell you. Like, why why your team? Why is it that the team you're rooting for, they lose, you want to go beat up anybody that supports that team? It's basketball.
Y'all don't got jobs. Y'all don't got concern. Y'all don't got other [ __ ] to worry about in your own lives, do you not? To wear that. Take the jersey off.
Like, I'm sorry. Like you know you're gonna get like I know it's embarrassing that that these are what New Yorkers are like.
>> Yeah.
>> But you're walking into a fire if you're wearing a Spurs jersey pulling up to a Knicks watch party. I'm not saying the Spurs fan deserved it at all. But but even then like across the board, not even just limited to the Spurs and the Knicks, but like any sporting event, why is it so damn tribal? That part I would never get. Like you see grown ass men again, gay gay ass men throwing punches, cussing each other out over wearing like the different teams jersey. If you on the wrong side, buddy, what do you think you're doing? Is this what your life is for? Your life is fulfilled by running around with a ball. You got nothing else. This I keep going back to like you have nothing else to worry about. I'm not I'm not acting like I don't have my own like hobbies and I'm not like crying at a Beyonce concert. I do. I'd be sitting here boohooing, boohooing at Beyonce concerts, living my best life, traveling around, going to all the shows, but it's not hurting anybody. Like, I'm not hating. Like, I'm not hating on Taylor Swift fans. I'm not trying to fight nobody. I'm there. I'm enjoying it. And then I'm leaving. But for some reason, y'all like get violent. Maybe it's the liquor. Not even. Cuz I've seen sober people act a fool at a house party before. It's It's almost a telltale sign. You have nothing. Move. I'm sorry if the shoe fit could have fit. It's almost like a tellt tell sign you have nothing else going on in your life.
You got nothing else going for you but these damn running around with a ball.
That's it. And that is sad. You are worth more than that. I you I'm sorry.
You are you are worth more than these people running around with the ball.
Whether it be soccer, basketball, football, whatever ball, you're worth more than that.
>> Why do sports fans riot after their team wins a championship?
>> I know the answer. There are a few scientific theories that help explain this phenomenon. Number one, collective effervescence. This is the power of the crowd. This is where people feed off each other's emotions and lose their individuality and become a big group.
>> I can get behind that. Especially if I'm viewing myself at a Beyonce concert, but I'm in the pit with all like the mega fans. We're all going crazy. We're all in unison. And it's just a good vibe.
I'm here for I'm here for like you in the stadium being turned having a good time. at a house party being turned having a good time. I'm not so maybe a it is a little bit different from like an entertainment aspect. I don't know because like a Beyonce concert's like once every 6 years, but there's people screaming at the TV every Sunday. Beyonce only come around only every like four, five years. So maybe it is a little bit different, but I get you know the whole being in the group together, y'all are happy and turn. I can I can understand that. preliminality and rights of passage. This is the in between moment where people leave behind the stress of the game, but they're not back to normal yet. So, they're in this more excited state. Number three, warrior culture and victory feast. This is where humans celebrate a big win by drinking, eating, and also some destruction. Theory number four, crowd psychology individualization. This is where maybe a normally calm person will connect with other fans and then just be rowdy like everyone else.
>> In that part, we do see a lot especially in like the team takeovers which we've talked about in other videos and we always be talking about this kind of stuff. So, be sure to subscribe if you're liking this content so far. But it's kind of similar to the team takeovers where you may have a good kid, but then you get a bunch of people in one area, one person does bad, it's easy for other people to do bad because it's like, "Oh, I'm not going to get caught.
There's too many of us here. I can act a fool. I can show out. I can kind of like act on impulse. You can act like a monkey. You can act like an animal because one, it's going to be more harder for you to get caught, but two, you can let out some frustration that you had built up in your life. You can kind of like I can let loose. Almost like the uh what's that damn movie with the mask? Not the plague. What's that movie? I don't want to Google it. It's not the plague. It's a mask. I know somebody's screaming the name right now.
And when you have like a free reign to like go kill everybody in the night. I got to look it up. What's that damn movie? They got all the different masks.
The Purge. The Purge. Here we go. The Purge. Um, it's kind of like that where you give humans the right to act a fool and some of them do >> with social inversion and carnival culture. In medieval times, peasants would have a day where the rules and they would make fun of the elites and just do whatever they wanted. Some anthropologists argue that this is the equivalent of social inversion. Theory number six, emotional release. So after a game, people are so excited cuz they won. I mean, this has been weeks and months and maybe even years of this pent up excitement and then finally they win and so they have to express it.
>> And that's the difference to the concerts. I express my emotion at the concert over and I leave. Why can't you just like have your excitement in the damn stadium, in the dome, wherever you at, and then leave?
Why are we in the streets when you're not supposed to be? It's one thing if it's a parade. It's one thing if it's a planned organized event, but like why can't you just leave it at home? Or even them dudes that be smashing the TVs and [ __ ] It's like again I I'm trying to be as clear and transparent as possible and fair. Like I'd be emotional at the Beyonce concerts. I'd be emotional at all concerts, any festival. I'm boohooing.
But it's like a moment and then I'm gone. Why is it that some people it's like their livelihood? It's like literally their entire life. I'm sorry, but the weirdest concept to me is people that actually attach their identities to like sports teams, they're like, "Yeah, dude. We won that game." It's like, "No, dude. You just watched a bunch of dudes on a screen pause that won a game and made millions of dollars and you still have to get up tomorrow morning at 9:00 a.m. to clock it.
You can have fun. You can enjoy sports.
It can be a relief for you. But when it becomes your entire identity where it's taking over your emotions and like you can watch a football game, they lose and your whole day is ruined.
Like you can watch a football game and you're just acting a fool and your kids watch you act a fool and then your kids start acting a fool. Then your kids get upset and they're screaming and crying over the sports too. It's why again to me it's clown behavior.
It's gay [ __ ] Like you're gay. Like that is act like again you're wearing the last name of another grown man on your back and you screaming at the TV at your phone at a bar over other men running around caked up.
Them [ __ ] they got fat asses. Caked up staring at them. You know all about their life. Some of yall know more about these players than your own damn life.
You still got to go work in the morning.
you still got your own life to take care of. It's just when it comes to the point where there's people more obsessed with like the players and the sports in their own life, that's where I get concerned by all means. Like I'm a again, I'm trying to be fair. I'm a huge Beyonce fan, but that's not like my identity.
That's not like I don't know. It's just it's maybe it's a little different. I don't know. But I'm not like tweaking over it every single day or every I I don't know. It's just why >> how do you actually invest that much time, effort, and energy in a game? And I understand like the big games like Super Bowl or World Cup or whatever, but the the everyday ones, like are you serious? You're keeping up with those people more than you actually care about your own life. And it's like if you were to put that same effort, energy, and focus that you are into those sports games, into a business or a venture that could make you money, you would be so monumentally successful. Yet, you watch dudes on a screen and watch them make money.
This is why like growing up I never was into movies like shows like that. Like I've seen all like pretty much all the South Parks, all the Family Guys, Bob's Burgers, stuff like that. Degrassi early on. Major shout out to my Degrassi fans.
I know there's one person watching this video right now. I've seen them all. The Next Generation season 1 through six.
Love. Anyways, sorry that was for them.
Um, there's a lot of men out there where their whole life is the sports when like you could like you're so unhappy and I get it. You're looking for the sports as like an outlet and like your time to like have fun and let loose, but there should there should be like a rain on that to where you're focusing on your life. That's why again I was going back to I didn't really like watch movies like that. I never really watch movies like that because why am I watching someone act fake and make money when like I have my own goals and dreams?
I'm about to sit here and stare at this screen and watch some fake [ __ ] and then make me a millionaire off of it when I can spend this time focusing on my own goals and dreams to become said millionaire.
Y'all, some of y'all got goals you trying to hit. Financial goals, life goals, body goals, but the the the time comparison ain't matching up. How are you putting more time into these damn sports, these players, than your own life?
So, it doesn't it doesn't add up. When I see I'm sorry, when I see fat people love sports, I'm like, that's disgusting. I'm I'm sorry.
How you big and watching sports? You how much you watching this game? That's about 2, three hours. If you put that amount of energy and time, even just once a week, and you was just walking on the treadmill for them two, three hours. Put the beer down, put the burger down, put the wings down. How you fat and you been bit into sports. Get into your life.
Them arteries are clogged. You need to go out there and become the best version of yourself. You do. You deserve that for yourself. Like, I don't understand why there's so many mediocre ass people out there. I mean, I do. But if you're already at the first step of the acknowledgement and you acknowledge you want your life to be different, you acknowledge something's off in your life, then read the room. Read the room and see what you need to cut out, what habits you need to change, what behaviors you need to modify.
Like when I see Oh, it just keeps getting worse. When I see a fat dad watching sports, Mo, you look like you more invested into this damn sport than your own body.
Your kids are becoming more obsessed with LeBron than their father.
They may listen to you, but I know for damn sure them kid ain't looking up to you like, "Oh my gosh, I want to be big and fat like my daddy." No, they want to be ripped. They want to be athletic. If anything, you should be modeling that.
But if you so invested in sports, at least look like them. At least have your life together. There we go. At least have your life together. Have your life together or at least act be actively working on your life and enjoy the sports. But when it's your whole identity and you ain't got no business having that as your identity, something got to give.
>> Nothing will ever fascinate me more than the obsession people, men specifically, >> have with sports, >> the NFL, college football or college sports, and it's like, you're screaming at a TV. You can tell me everything about this person's life, where they went to college, where they got drafted, their injuries, what team they've switched on, the position. You can tell me all of this stuff. You have their name. You have their name on your back and it's like >> you're in debt, dude. Your business is struggling.
If you can tell me everything about this man's life and wear his name on your back and your life isn't where it should be, >> what are we talking about?
>> What are we talking about? What are you doing? Exactly what I was just saying.
You can come for me all day long. You listen. You can come for me all day long about being this huge Beyonce fan. Well, Mir, you be crying at the concerts. You be going crazy. You be going to all these shows. My life's together.
It's actively being worked on to be even better. Year over year, my life has been nothing but that. That's my first priority is my life and I have fun on the side. But year after year, if your life is just this or it's like that, you have no business wearing the last name of another man on your back when you have you're just in so much deep [ __ ] in your life and you know more about these players than you do what you're going to you know more about these players than you do your own life. Like like you don't even have a plan for your life.
You don't have a road map on how you're going to be getting out of debt. How you be navigating this? There's no plan.
There's no structure. But the plan and structure lies within these men on the field. The plan and structure lies in how they're performing.
Bro, y'all got way too much bigger [ __ ] to worry about. You do. You do.
>> It is really sad to see the amount of young men right now that are desperately in the sports gambling. More young men are becoming degenerate gamblers because of sports betting parlays. You know what?
That's another perspective. I I Yep.
There's probably a lot of people out there acting a fool. Riding in the streets, screaming at the TV, screaming at the players, acting like they own them because they do own their money.
Because you done put so much money in all these bets, the sports betting. You done did all this betting on these games and your team loses. Now you're even more amped up. Now you're even more mad because you had money on it. Yeah, that that makes sense, too.
>> Trenches. Like these dudes are gambling addicts and there is no out for them because they're never going to stop watching sports. And I'm not saying to stop watching sports, but if you can't pay your rent and now you're asking for your girlfriend to give you money so that you can try to double it or triple it so you can cover the next few months of rent and you keep losing, like there there's levels to this. Damn, she coming straight for the jugular and she ain't lying either. It goes back to what the old dude was saying. You got more to worry about in your life right now. And you worry about these men on the sports teams. You bet, you know, money away.
What are you doing, bro? Like, what actually are you doing with your life?
It's this is sad. I genuinely feel for you.
>> You know, before when you would watch a game, people would, you know, be upset because their team lost, right? But now you have people that are crashing out even harder because they put their money on a parlay and a player decided to take a knee to drain the clock instead of running in a touchdown with 30 seconds left on the clock. Like and these dudes >> are literally freaking out. They're breaking furniture. They're breaking their TVs. And I know that this has happened before, but it's happening even more now.
>> Yeah, I'm not twe we're not tweaking.
It's happening even more now. And it's probably is compounding because of the sports betting and how many people are putting all this damn money into like the sports betting and they're losing it. They're losing their money. They're not getting their money back and but they're also watching people win.
They're also watching people get out of debt. They're also watching people like just win big on it and they want to be a part of that. But this is not a good habit. It's not. You already screaming to cry over these men on the field, but then you add in a layer of like your money's tied to it. Oh yeah. Be sure to subscribe because I'm going to do a whole video focusing specifically on sports betting and the effect it has had on young men and our culture. So, we're going to I'm going to do a whole video just on that.
>> Our generation is so depressed because we don't have a third place. In our parents' generation and almost every generation before that, there were three places. Work, home, and social gatherings. If you had a shitty day at work, you could look forward to going to the pub after work with your friends. Or if you get into an argument with your wife, you could go to the golf course and hang out with your buddies. Or if you're feeling lonely on a random Tuesday, you can look forward to your darts or pool league after work. Every single generation before ours had this third place of gathering.
>> Now the third place of gathering is our damn cell phone. It's Tik Tok. It's scrolling on reals. It's getting on a game and even though you're still isolated in your room. That's another good video, too. Subscribe. We have so many videos to make. I'll make a video on just on the lack of third spaces and how he's right. You had work, you had family, but then you had like extra stuff to do. But more and more people, they don't have that extra thing to do.
Besides us, the sense of community and belongingness that people used to have at this third place, like it or not, made it a lot harder to be depressed.
Nowadays, most people do not have three places. They have two and sometimes even one. Either work and home or sometimes just home because people work from home.
That sense of community, the sense of belongingness, the social gatherings that people used to rely on on a daily basis are completely gone from our generation.
>> And not only is it gone, now people put it into these communities even harder.
So, you have people who are extra hard in the sports because that's that's so sad. They put they go extra hard with the sports teams because it's the only community that they have. There's this lack of the third space. And so now when they do find a space, they're even more in it. Yeah, that makes sense, too. I love I just I love making content like this. I love just talking with you guys and working through these different ideas and and talking about culture and politics and life and it's such a blessing. Thank you all for the support and subscribe. It means the world to me.
But this is it's just so eye opening. It just really makes me think. All in all, it's apparent these Knicks fans, uh, they have lost their absolute mind over in New York, destroying the city, whether they win or lose. That is just blowing my mind. But also, this this been a fun conversation get to the bigger scope of things and how there is a lack of community and people going even more into it. Uh, human nature and how you want to be part of a tribe and how people act when they get together and they're more apt to do like bad things cuz they just feel ruthless and like the energy's up. And it is interesting, but at the end of the day, like you're legitimately a [ __ ] Like you're legitimately a bundle of sticks if you're a grown straight man wearing the last name of another man on your back.
How are you more obsessed with these players than your own self? Like, you should be obsessed with yourself. You should be obsessed with yourself in the sense that you're always striving to become a better version of yourself.
You're striving to accomplish your goals and dreams. is striving to be the best version that you can be. Not in an egotistical way, not in a very f you kind of way, not a disrespectful way, but in a way where you actively do respect yourself. You deserve that. And and and now that we're here outside this video, I'm talking directly to you.
Whether you're in the car, you're on a walk, you're doing errands around the house, you're out, or you're just on the couch, eating dinner, eating lunch, whatever it may be, I hope that you're doing okay. I don't know what's going on in your life. I but I know something is I don't know if it's like family drama, friendship drama, life, health related stuff, fitness stuff, boss, uh drama, like family, whatever it may be. I don't know. But just know that this is just a season. It will pass. It's literally called going through for a reason.
You're not stuck there. Like you will survive. You will be okay. But you have to be and acknowledge that repeatedly.
And you have to have a plan. You can't change what happened to you. You cannot change the past. You can't change your mistakes. What you can do is learn from them. What you can do is have a plan going forward. Once you have that plan, you're golden. You may still have an anxiety here and there, but once you have a a course of action of what you're going to do to make a difference in your life, it becomes so much easier and less stressful because you know you're actively doing something. But when you're in this limbo state of I don't know what's going on, I don't know. I'm going to take care of this. I'm not going to do this. I don't know how to do that. Pause, calm down, get [ __ ] in order, and then process and go. That's the only way you're really going to get through something. At least for me. So, take that. I love you guys a ton. Thank you so much for your time. I don't take your time for granted. Thank you for your time watching this video. Thank you for your time uh supporting this channel, liking, subscribing, sharing.
It means the world to me. We're on our road to a million Oh [ __ ] I almost hit my hit my knee. Uh we're on a road to a million subscribers. I can't wait for that. And yeah, and honestly, we're at the end of the video. I don't even care anymore. There has been this damn gnat.
I'm about to whack the [ __ ] out of it.
Yeah, [ __ ] Sorry.
I think it's dead. It's video getting hood. Anyways, love y'all. I'll catch you in the next one. Adio. Oh, wait.
Real quick. Now we here. We chilling.
Um, major shout out to the reset club.
Thank you guys so much for your love and support on the membership side.
It is dead. Nice. Um, I don't see it anymore. Yeah, major support over there on the reset club. I just hired a videographer. So, thank you for your support over there for me able to do that. Um, the videos are about to get even more crazy. Like, I'm still doing the interview with mystery man, my husband. We're still doing um like a cooking segments now. Uh we're expanding like the rants. We're going to be going to theme parks. Like it's literally like turning into like a vlog channel. So, that's coming. I've been working on that. Obviously, the membership. I've been putting out three videos a week now. Um so, I've been doing that, but I hired an editor now, too. The videographer, the team's growing, so it's it's really cool to see. It's really I just love where this is going.
But, um but yeah, major shout out to the members. Love you guys a ton. The Kool-Aid video is in there. Uncle Ruckus is in there. There's a lot of cool stuff and I'll be putting some more stuff in there. But I just want a little update for y'all. Anyways, bye. Love you and I'll catch you in the next video.
Deuces.
