In perimenopause, the choice between cyclic (taking progesterone from day 14-28 of the cycle) and continuous (taking it daily regardless of cycle) depends on individual factors: continuous progesterone is preferred for better sleep quality, while cyclic may be chosen for better period regulation; healthcare providers typically recommend continuous for those with spaced-out cycles or those experiencing significant sleep improvement during the second half of their cycle, with both approaches being acceptable treatment options.

Cyclic vs continuous progesterone: Which is best?
Added:This is a great question. Should you take cyclic or continuous progesterone in perimenopause? Now, postmenopausal for sure, menopause, postmenopause, yes, take it because yes, you need some sleep. Cyclic basically means that you're taking it from day 14 to day 28 or whenever you get your period, maybe it's day 30 or day 31.
And um versus continuous, you take it all the time. It doesn't matter what day of your cycle that you're on. Why would you do one or the other? Well, some people take continuous because sleeping, right?
You might have difficulty with insomnia on day four and you're not taking your progesterone and so with taking your progesterone would matter and make it much better.
Sometimes you would take cyclic because it actually helps with regulating your periods a little bit better. You can actually have some irregular bleeding when you're taking cyclic and so it can interfere with whatever cycle you were going to have and so someone will choose to do cyclic so they can have more augmentation of the progesterone that's going away.
Either way is completely fine. Both ways are accepted because you're still having periods and really I tend to make the decision if someone has a pretty spaced out cycle, then I will move to just doing continuous. Or say they try for a month or two and they say, "Oh my gosh, I'm not sleeping nearly as well as I am the second half." then we'll switch to continuous. So there is no wrong answer basically, but that's how I make my decision.
