It has large compound leaves that are alternately arranged and its fruits are long cylindrical pods up to 2 ft long that start off green and turn black [clears throat] as they mature and they contain a sticky dark brown pulp. It's used a lot as an ornamental and avenue tree. The flowers are edible. In Jamaica, it can be found growing wildly and organically in a variety of green spaces.

To promote bowel movement and relieve constipation, the pulp is soaked in water overnight and then strained into a clean glass. Sugar or honey is then added to the extract and then it is consumed.
The pulp is also mixed with an equal amount of tamarind which is tamarindus indica. So that would be the fruit pulp to promote regular bowel movements.
The pulp of the fruit is applied topically over the naval area of children to treat collic gas and bloating and to support the gastrointestinal tract. A paste from the pulp is rubbed onto the navl to treat urinary disorders. Pain around the urethra and during urination and blood in the urine. The pulp is boiled and the liquid obtained from this is used as air drops to clear infections.
The fruit pulp is consumed to get relief from intestinal worms, indigestion, abdominal gas, and it is used to strengthen the intestines to remove toxins from the gastrointestinal tract.
An extract of the pulp from the pod is taken with hot milk. The pulp is cooked in milk and taken to treat anemia and palpitation.
To treat a chronic cough, ghee is prepared from a decoction of the fruit pulp and consumed.
The ripe pods are used as a laxative.
The pods are used for malaria, blood poisoning, anthrax, diabetes, and dentry. And for those of you who don't know, anthrax is a serious illness caused by a spore forming bacterium. It mainly affects livestock and wild game, but it can occur in humans through contact with an infected animal. A decoction of the pods is taken to treat kidney stones and tapeworms, and it is used as a laxative.
The flowers of the tree are used to reduce swelling and to provide relief in liver disorder. They're also used to treat seasonal flu and malaria. A flow decoction is used to treat hysteria.
A paste is made from the roots, bark, fruit, flowers and leaf and used topically to treat ringorm, scabes and skin disorders caused from impurities in the blood.
