Vets Called, Pregnancy Tests and Calving

[00:01:30]I love it. So, we've got a bit still another row and a bit out here actually.

[00:01:34]So, we've just started pulling the fourth row. It's good to see one two here. She had a bit of retained after birth. Had it since she's carved. She's been carved for a while now. About probably 10 days. It's good to see it's just charged down. She got the after birth there. But it can do it stays in too long. It can poison them. But because she had twins, she's more likely to retain after birth. So what tends to happen is they have a one ky and when they have their two carbies then what tends to happen is there's two um two basically two after births and she pushes out one and she leaves the second one in there but then they go oh and then push the last bit out.

[00:02:17]It has been retained for a little while and sometimes you get stuck in them and sometimes you just got to pull it out.

[00:02:21]But they didn't have to today. But anyway, I'll carry on moving. It looks like starting to have some sort of help.

[00:02:27]And we got a spare cup here to go on our slow drill girls in. But I had to start the backing gate cuz no one wanted to go up that side. Oh, now you're going up that side. No, see everyone diverts off.

[00:02:40]They just wait for the backing gate to come around and then we'll push one in then.

[00:02:46]walked out into that part of the yard about five times pushing them in and no one want to go up that side. Come on up.

[00:05:42]All washed up. Nice and clean. Dad's washing the yard. He said there's bugger all grass on there today, which is awesome. Makes it a lot easier for him.

[00:05:49]Um T is still feeding the calves. I've got to go and go get a bag of gluccomag and glucaos ready cuz I can almost guarantee number seven will be down. She's quite the big cow so she'll probably be down. Quite the old girl I should say. Not big. Big big doesn't really matter. That's more age based is why they tend to go down.

[00:06:10]And she is 13. So I can almost guarantee she'll be down. She might not be.

[00:06:15]Anyway, that is for the pig milk. Well, he come he usually comes past in the morning. He'll have that. Um, anyways, let's go get it ready.

Dad's off to go and uh lift the cow up and we're going to go and shift the irrigator into this paddic here because number eight, we want to use number eight soon, whereas this one could do with a bit of um natural fertilizer. Do you remember how much that paddic has been eaten down and far out? Look at the regrowth on it. So, we get the irrigator set up in there. We're not going to start it because it's still a little bit too wet. Probably give it a day or two to dry out before we get the irrigator going out here.

[00:11:16]We'll let dad into his paddic and get him all hooked up with the um hiplers. There he goes.

[00:11:43]irrigator hasn't been used for a while, but I don't know if you can see it, but it's a nice green, dark green growing patch just across here where the irrigator's been and the lighter color over here. It's just natural ura. We're usually in the number three, but um we could put it number two, the next paddic over, but you got to remember the calves are going in there soon. Once they go outside, they get put in that paddic. So that's why we're just shifting it into the um this paddic next door to the next pipe.

What had happened is the calf had fallen out wrong and its head was tucked up underneath its body. So, he couldn't actually breathe. So, it was good timing. We come down here when we did. Lucky. But unfortunately, it's a bull. So, oh well. But while I'm in the paddic anyways, we'll go for a stagger and go and have a look to see what um sex uh 128's calf is.

[00:25:24]This can be quite the problem with big fat carryovers. You end up getting quite a few cows um have to carve them cuz they're too fat and the calf may be too big inside.

You come on a little onto it, but she's out above my pay grade this one. The car is upside down and I don't entirely sure what's happening there. So, dads are coming. You got to take over.

[00:26:52]Um, unfortunately calf had been in there for a while. So, he was a deceased big calf though. But anyways, we'd rather her survive then.
