How to Replace Transmission Mount 2018-2024 Chevrolet Equinox

[00:00:00]In this video, I'll be showing how to replace a transmission mount on a Chevrolet Equinox. It is located under the hood and on the transmission. Let's get started.

[00:00:12]I'm going to open my hood, locate my battery. It is on the driver's side of the engine bay and the negative battery terminal. I'll be using a 10 mm to remove this.

[00:00:26]Let's loosen it.

[00:00:29]Wiggle it side to side.

[00:00:35]Then pull up with both hands and set it aside.

[00:00:40]Now that my negative battery terminal is out of the way, I'm going to go ahead and move along the side of the battery and locate this connector near the coolant reservoir.

[00:00:47]Going to use a 90° pick to remove the clip.

[00:00:51]So, just get your pick and pull on this red tab.

[00:00:57]Now you can see it's free. We can push down and slide it off.

[00:01:03]Inspect it for any corrosion or damage.

[00:01:06]Now I'm going to move along to my positive battery terminal. Going to lift off this cap. There's a clip there. Just lift it up.

[00:01:13]And locate the 10 mm nut for the terminal.

[00:01:18]Going to remove that.

[00:01:27]Just ensure it's loose for now. Now that my terminal is loose, I'm going to go ahead and lift up on the corners of the cover. Lift here and on the other side right here.

[00:01:35]Lift this well.

[00:01:38]Now you can undo the cover and set it aside.

[00:01:41]Now on the front and back side of the terminal, you're going to go and locate these tabs. You're going to lift up.

[00:01:51]Same on the other side, lift up.

[00:01:55]And slide the whole assembly off.

[00:02:01]So you can see there's that other tab.

[00:02:03]It is right near the harness connector.

[00:02:06]Set this aside.

[00:02:09]Now we're going to locate my two battery cradle nuts. They are two 10 mm, one right here and one right here.

[00:02:15]Just remove those.

[00:02:35]Now set these aside.

[00:02:37]To remove the cradle, simply lift up on the front side.

[00:02:42]There's a tab on the back. You just lift up all the way and slide it out.

[00:02:47]Now to remove our battery cover, this simply slides up. We'll have to get this out the way though, so I'm just going to maneuver it out.

[00:02:53]I'm going to pull up on the metal.

[00:03:11]And we could also set this aside.

[00:03:13]Now remove our battery. Just going to locate these handles.

[00:03:17]Pull them up.

[00:03:27]Now we could remove it.

[00:03:29]Now with the battery out of the way, I'm going to go ahead and locate my engine control module and its bracket. It's held in by these tabs and retainers.

[00:03:37]Going to push down on the tab and lift it out. First, I'm going to set our coolant hose aside.

[00:03:41]Just pull it out of the retainer and set it aside.

[00:03:47]So I'm going to push down on the tab and lift up.

[00:04:01]>> Now place it to the side.

[00:04:03]Now on our battery tray, there is a plastic clip holding a wire harness down. I'll remove it using a trim tool.

[00:04:20]And set it aside. Now we're going to locate another clip on the post of the battery tray and also remove it with a trim tool.

[00:04:36]Now to remove our battery tray, we are going to have to relocate our fuse box.

[00:04:39]It is held in by two 13 mm bolts.

[00:05:06]Now we're going to push it towards the engine and lift up.

[00:05:11]And just set it aside.

[00:05:13]And now to remove our battery tray, we are going to find three 13 mm bolts and one 13 mm nut.

[00:05:48]Now before we fully remove the battery tray, there are two plastic clips holding some wires down.

[00:05:56]Again, I'll be using a trim tool.

[00:06:07]Now, we can lift the battery tray up and out of the vehicle.

[00:06:15]Set it aside.

[00:06:16]Now, before we remove our transmission mount, we are going to want to support our transmission. I'll be using a jack and a piece of wood.

[00:06:24]I'm just going to lift until it touches.

[00:06:26]Now, remove our transmission mount.

[00:06:28]You'll find five 18-mm bolts. We're going to start off on the transmission side.

[00:06:51]Quick note, during removal of this last bolt on the transmission side, your engine may move. That is completely normal.

[00:07:13]Now, we're going to move on to the two body side bolts for the mount.

[00:07:25]Quick note, these bolts are different than the transmission side, so we're going to go ahead and separate those.

[00:07:36]Now, we could go ahead and remove our mount.

[00:07:47]>> And there it is.

[00:07:50]Now I'm going to install our transmission mount.

[00:07:55]Just going to put it in place.

[00:08:01]And hand thread on my 18-mm bolts.

[00:08:04]Remember the body side bolts are different, so we'll be installing those first.

[00:08:18]Now to hand thread on my transmission side bolts.

[00:08:28]If the holes do not align, you can adjust your jack.

[00:08:32]Just going to raise it a little bit.

[00:08:44]Now I'm going to go ahead and snug down my body side bolts.

[00:09:02]Now I'm going to go ahead and torque these to 74 ft-lb.

[00:09:16]Now I'm going to snug down my transmission side bolts.

[00:09:36]Quick note, you may have to reposition your jack to fully tighten them. Just lift up the jack until they snug down.

[00:09:41]Our first pass is going to be 26 ft-lb.

[00:09:48]We're going to start at this bolt, then go to this one, and finish off at this one.

[00:10:03]And our last pass is going to be 74 ft-lb. Again, we'll be tightening them in the same order, starting here, and we'll go on to this one, then this one.

[00:10:34]Now we can move our jack from under the vehicle.

[00:10:37]Just slowly release.

[00:10:47]And pull the jack out.

[00:10:50]Now to reinstall our battery tray.

[00:10:56]I'm going to set it down in place.

[00:11:05]Now I'm going to reclip my electrical connectors.

[00:11:18]Make sure both are fully seated in. Now we have one more clip along the back side of the battery tray.

[00:11:41]>> Now I'm going to hand thread on my four 13 mm fasteners.

[00:11:53]And now my 13 mm nut.

[00:12:01]Now I'm going to snug these all down.

[00:12:20]Now I'm going to move on to clip on my post and reinstall it.

[00:12:26]Now let's go ahead and reinstall our fuse box.

[00:12:29]Going to slide it over.

[00:12:39]Align the mounting tabs and push to the right.

[00:12:43]Now I'm going to hand thread on our two 13 mm bolts.

[00:12:56]Now just snug these down.

[00:13:13]Now I'm going to reinstall our ECU on our battery tray.

[00:13:16]Just going to lift it up and over.

[00:13:25]And push fully down.

[00:13:30]Make sure that tab is in place. Now we're going to reinstall the coolant hose on the holder.

[00:13:37]Now to reinstall our battery.

[00:13:40]Going to take it, slide it in first.

[00:13:44]Going to lift up on the terminal so I have room.

[00:13:53]Now make sure it sits flush with the battery tray.

[00:13:56]Remember during reinstallation the orientation of your terminals.

[00:14:01]Uh negative's on the driver side and positive is towards the passenger side.

[00:14:05]And now to reinstall our battery cover.

[00:14:08]So the side with the plastic is towards the negative battery terminal. This side is for the positive. That's more open.

[00:14:14]Going to slide the terminal assembly up.

[00:14:19]Be aware of the J-hook during installation. Make sure you don't go over it.

[00:14:22]And just push down. Make sure it's flush.

[00:14:26]Now for our terminal assembly.

[00:14:29]Remember these clips? One right here, one right here. I'm going to line them on the battery and just clamp them down.

[00:14:37]So make sure you hear that click. Make sure it's secure.

[00:14:41]Now slide your terminal over.

[00:14:49]Make sure it's flush. Now we could tighten it down.

[00:14:54]It's a 10 mm and just snug it up.

[00:15:05]Now for my cradle. There's a tab on this side, goes over and hooks up. So we're going to have to hook it in.

[00:15:13]Hook it like that.

[00:15:14]And line the threads with the holes.

[00:15:19]One on the J-hook and one on the chassis side of the vehicle.

[00:15:24]Just thread on your 10-mm nuts.

[00:15:42]And now just simply snug these down.

[00:15:58]Make sure the whole battery is secure.

[00:16:02]Now for my positive battery terminal cover, I'll locate these two tabs and clip them in.

[00:16:10]Slide them up. Make sure they're secure.

[00:16:14]And push the whole assembly down.

[00:16:19]Now I'll go ahead and locate my connector.

[00:16:22]Just slide it in.

[00:16:25]Make sure you hear that click. And as for the tab, just push it in till it stops. I'll try to pull it out and make sure it's secure.

[00:16:36]Now let's go ahead and reinstall our negative battery terminal.

[00:16:40]Slide it over.

[00:16:43]Make sure it's flush and snug it down.

[00:16:56]Once that's snug, make sure it's secure.

[00:17:00]And that completes our install. Once you're finished, go ahead and take the vehicle for a road test. Make sure you don't have any codes or any lights on the dash. And thank you for watching.
