In relationships, clear communication about personal deal breakers (such as children, career goals, or lifestyle preferences) and deal makers (such as shared values, mutual respect, and emotional compatibility) is essential for building healthy partnerships. Successful relationships require both partners to understand each other's boundaries and to actively work on personal growth and accountability.

>> This is the KBLA Sports Minute with Ray Richardson.
FIFA, the world governing body for soccer, has agreed to pay Somalian referee Omar Artan his full salary for World Cup games he was scheduled to officiate here in Los Angeles. Artan was denied entry into the US last weekend while en route to LA. Artan is rated as one of the top soccer referees in the world. Nice gesture by FIFA to pay Artan the money he would have earned for working the World Cup. FIFA had assigned Artan to work at least three matches here in LA and matches in the next round in Seattle. Artan was stopped at Miami International Airport by US Customs agents on June 6th. Customs officials said Artan was denied entry because of what they called vetting concerns. The US has Somalia on a list of countries where citizens are prohibited from traveling to the US. Customs agents failed to produce any evidence that Artan was a threat to the US or had ties to terrorist organizations. No debates, no speculation, just the info you need.

>> Unapologetically progressive.
>> We're not against rap.
We're not against rappers.
But we are against those thugs.
>> Thugs. Thugs.
>> It's the Thugest Rugest Bone.
It's the Thugest Rugest Bone.
It's the Thugest Rugest Bone.
>> [singing] >> It's the Thugest Rugest Bone.
>> You're feeling a strip for the wrong step, bone. Hit a bone, get a jump, get the dust, [music] just feel, just be thug and straight busting loving your people cuz we so real. Chill, better bring your weapon when stepping. Bring on that ammunition. [music] Tripping, no fiction. Not to mention, never knew no competition. But I got to get mine, so scream I'm mo and let me hear [music and singing] you holler. Not about that mighty dollar. Roll with the Bone Thug a Follow. Chain [music and singing] gang remaining the same. Blazing in my daytime, drinking brew. Not about that hanging. Cut them up, break them off.
>> Thugest Rugest Bone.
It's the Thugest Rugest Bone.
It's the Thugest Rugest Bone.
>> [singing] [music] >> It's the Thugest Rugest Bone.
>> Get ready for the Bone in the Mo Thug Busters. You know me as a hustler.
[music] Try to creep and get beat. Maybe six feet. Peace. Got to put them under.
Straight jacking. Got to make that money, man. It's still the [music and singing] same now. Better in my black trench vest. Yeah, got to lay down that bang bang. Come and get this teaching. Your soldier.
>> [music and singing] >> Thugest Rugest Bone.
It's the Thugest Rugest Bone.
It's the Thugest Rugest Bone.
It's the Thugest Rugest Bone.
>> No bottom in our world, [music] stroll.
Don't be tripping in the land, but creep if you can. Take another step to the graveyard. Looking [music] instead of choking off that dope and smoking that bone.
>> [music] [music] [singing and music] [music] [music] >> All right, KBLA top 1580.
>> [music] >> Well, I remember the first time I heard that uh song because it wasn't out yet and my late friend Eazy-E, aka Eric Wright, he played it for me.
It was when I used to work at uh the original Beat back in the day.
And um actually me and my girl Maryama were the ones that got Eazy in there, but that's another show for another day.
I know it sounds crazy. Why would you Why would he need you? But he did and we did. Um and I just thought it was weird.
I heard it [laughter] and I was like, "What is that?"
Uh my girl Maryama, who has got much better ears than I do, she she understood it. I didn't. I was like, this is just weird.
Um and I uh played it anyway, cuz it was easy. He was He was very convincing. I mean, you know, it was different. I give it that. I was like, "Ooh, this this brother be on some He comes up with some stuff, doesn't he?"
>> [laughter] >> This is wild. Um so, yeah, I I admit, I was not It took me a while. I love Bone now, but in I loved them not too much longer after that. But, when I first heard Thuggish Ruggish Bone, I was like, "What even is this?"
I did play it. I'm pretty sure I was one of the um early people to play that because it wasn't released yet. So, folks didn't have it yet.
Um anyway, not sure if we will be graced by Lazy Bone this morning or not. That's the reason why oftentimes I don't like to um announce when I have artists on or celebrities on because sometimes they don't make it. I always say that, but then if I don't tell you when they are on, y'all be mad at me.
So, um you know, what to do, what to do. Would you rather I tell you and then you get disappointed or don't say it and then you get surprised?
Well, typically this would be a Messy Monday. Messy Mondays we talk about relationships, relationship rules, relationship mess, and uh what are the standards, what are the deal breakers, what what can we do about it? That's what we typically do on the third Monday.
No, the second Monday of the month, not the third Monday. The third Monday is Black Marriage Monday.
Um so, Miles, looks like you're going to have to be our Messy Monday subject since um we have no sign of our guest at this moment.
>> I don't know nothing about Black Marriage Monday yet, so you know.
>> Yeah, well, I mean, you know, you're still young. You You You want to get married one day, right?
>> One day.
>> Yeah, and have a family. But not in a rush.
>> Why rush?
>> Yeah. No, you're right. Why rush it cuz you once you're married, hopefully it's the rest of your life.
>> Least for life, right? Yeah.
>> Didn't work out that way for me, but hopefully it it works out that way for you.
>> I'm not going to be messy. I'm going to I'm going to just roll with that without you.
>> It's Messy Monday. Be messy.
>> Yeah, yeah.
I don't know, Dominique. I don't know.
I'm I'm be real with you. I I want to be married, but I don't know if that's what the what the the cosmos got for me right now, Dominique. It may just be may just got to be outside for a little longer, man. He's got to have to be, you know, be nature boy. Not nature boy Miles, but Miles love outside for a little bit.
>> Well, look. I mean, d- again, don't rush it. You got plenty of time.
You got plenty of time.
Men can be dads, you know, you don't have a biological clock you got to worry about.
>> All right, all right, all right.
>> Um and also don't do it unless you really really really really want it.
Because it's for the long haul. And I I don't think it People always say, "Oh, marriage is hard. Marriage is hard."
Maybe it is.
Um yeah, I mean, yes, it is.
But I don't know if it has to be. Like at least not all the time. It's I don't know.
>> Are you looking for Are you looking for doing it again?
>> Um no, thank you.
>> No, okay. All right. [laughter] All right. But do you recommend it? Do you recommend it?
>> I can't You know what? I shouldn't say that cuz God's got jokes. And the minute I say I'm not going to do it again, I'm going to be announcing my wedding.
And I you know, so no. I'm not going to say that. Uh I will to will the divine will.
>> Okay. But women, do you know Do you know what you want though? Do you What do you want?
>> I >> Women don't know what they want, Dominique. Do you want to be married? Do you not want to be married?
>> I know what I want. I want a long-term, stable, loving, committed relationship.
>> Okay.
>> Doesn't have to be marriage, though.
>> But you want a man.
>> Oh, yeah, always that.
>> Always want a man, but you don't always want a husband.
>> Well, it's >> That comes and goes.
>> the legal part I I Yeah, no.
>> Okay.
>> I mean, I look, I had a kid under the sanctity of marriage. I stayed married for a really long time. It had its moments.
And I I just don't see This is going to sound terrible. Why are we turning this into Black Marriage Month? I don't see the reason to do it again. I don't get it. I'm not a gold digger. I'm a failed gold digger. I don't know how to, you know, marry or date for money.
It's just not in my DNA. I'm not judging you. If you do it, fine. Find you a sugar mama.
>> I wish I had it in me, too, Dominique. I can't date for it. I can't >> [laughter] >> It It It don't work for me. Like I I wish it did.
>> I'm missing that chip, apparently, so um I already have my baby.
>> Okay.
>> So, I'm not having no more. So, what's Why Why would I get married is the question?
>> Okay. Is that why you got married the first time because you wanted all that to play out how it played out or >> Well, I did want to be married when I had my child, yeah. My My mom has four children.
I mean, five children and four baby daddies. I I kind of wanted to just have one husband.
I don't know. Call it a backlash, if you will.
>> Got you.
>> [laughter] >> All right, for sure.
>> And you know, I succeeded in that. Just one baby daddy, aka husband.
But no. No, no. I know. You guys, they're laughing at me cuz cuz you you're trying to get out of your mess by focusing on mine.
>> Oh, no, I I I can talk about my my my mess. It It leads into that. I don't think women know exactly what they want right now. And I think that I'm not a person that's going to sit up here and try to uh I'm not going to convince you anything.
I'm going to kind of just roll with the punches a little bit right now.
>> But here's the thing, Miles. Sometimes women know what they want, but they don't want to tell you because they think it's going to make you run. A lot of men are afraid of commitment. So, if you start dating a woman and she says, "Ooh, I really want to be married." A lot of men will run from that.
>> Okay.
>> Cuz they don't want that commitment.
They want a fun time, you know, they want a good time, not a long time.
>> Okay. I mean, look look you can you whatever you say you want though, like you can't expect somebody to read your mind and and go off of what what they think you think you want.
If you can't even correctly articulate what it is that you want and live on and stand on it. That's not my bad. I can't I can't be responsible for that.
>> Uh Morris says he loves marriage. He says, "I feel like my life is completed." And let me say, I'm not a hater. Like I have a couple of really good friends who have very successful marriages that are happy. They complete each other. They they they travel together.
You know who you are. I don't know if they want to be shouted out. I won't do anything that would cause any strife in their marriages because they're happy.
Yes.
>> them >> Yes. And one one couple that I know has been married I think it's 53 years they just celebrated.
>> That's beautiful.
>> They still go watch sunsets together and hold hands at the movies.
>> So, look Dr. West was in here with Tavis last week. And they're doing >> He's on his fifth marriage, Dr. West.
Number five. I mean, and his wife is beautiful and they seem very happy. So, no shade, but um >> All right. Okay.
>> Well, I love it.
>> It's okay.
>> Those are facts. I'm not making stuff up.
>> Google AI tell you that. It's okay. But, what I'm saying what I was getting at is uh it's Black Music Month. So, him and Tavis were playing uh Curtis Mayfield.
And Dr. West, you know, he comes in there he wants to talk to me in between every song and I'm just sitting there listening to Curtis Mayfield yearn over the loves of his life. And I'm like, "I wish I could write some love songs and yearn over some of these females right now. And I'm not ready to enter into that.
>> in love.
>> I've been in love, but I'm >> I mean face down in the mud love. Like heartbroken when she left love. Like couldn't think eat sleep love.
>> Yeah, it's kind >> Nah, you ain't never been in love.
>> It ain't No, it's not there yet. It's not there.
And I don't I don't know if it's even meant to get there anymore.
>> Oh, it going to happen, Miles. It's going to happen.
>> You say that, Dominique. By who?
>> I don't know. I'm not God. I don't know, but I know you're a big-hearted Leo man and it's >> But I'm I'm a cold piece, too, Dominique. And I'm trying to leave that behind. I'm trying to be a lot more of a lover and a lot more, you know, open-hearted and lead with the heart and, you know, be that kind of >> but but let me tell you. When you find the right one, you won't be trying. It's just going to smack you upside your head.
>> I'm like Reggie Bush right now, Dominique. I see the I see the tackles before they even happen.
>> weaving.
>> I'm just I'm just running the ball and I can see the hole before it open. I just know where I'm going. I know I can see the whole defense play it out in front of me.
>> Okay, it's Messy Monday. So, I I need you to prom- make a promise to me, Miles.
>> Promise. Okay, let's see.
>> When that happens, not when not if. And I don't care if you're 40, 50, 60, or 33 >> Okay.
>> I need you to call me or at least text me.
>> Let you know I found the one?
>> No, let you know that you couldn't you couldn't dodge it. It just clobbered you over the head.
>> Okay, here's the thing though, Dominique. I'm looking for I want it.
I'm I'm here for it. Like I'm I'm I'm attracting that energy. I put that out there. My radio antenna is up. I know what I want. I want to try it.
>> when you're looking. It's never when you're looking.
>> Well, it's it's not going to be when you're not ready for it. It's not going to be when >> Um I beg to differ. Okay, well I think it's always when you're Why do men always approach me when I'm like uh no makeup, looking crazy, got on sweats?
Why do my Why Why is it even when I got married, it was like I had just made peace with myself.
I'm just going to It's going to be me, music, the dog, and um >> Why are you telling me yes then?
>> work.
Well, it just came out of nowhere.
>> But it was what you wanted. It could be >> right thing to do.
>> You you you wanted it.
>> that I didn't want it. I was just tired of worrying about it.
>> Man, I know me personally when it's like, man, I'm cool on a female right now. I'm really going to lock in on what I'm working on.
It's easy for me to to say no. That was my phone. It's easy for me to say no and >> "Oh, they're blowing up your phone right now." See that?
Okay, we're turning it >> [laughter] >> We're turning it into Messy Monday. But look, if Lazy Bone shows up, he's just jumping right in this mess with me and Miles Low.
Uh and you're welcome in, too. We'd love to hear your mess or your order, whatever you got going on. Your love love love interest 809-2015-80.
[laughter] You know where you're at. It's a Messy Monday.

>> Happy anniversary, KBLA.
>> Yeah, man.
>> Thanks for waking up with Dominique Dupree on KBLA Talk 1580.
>> You know, that's what we do. We talk among ourselves sometimes, and it's always it's always good. Um so, look, um we uh we are doing Messy Monday and I have pressed Miles into service because our guest has not arrived. And it's normally Messy Monday and you're getting some advice here in the chat Miles which is don't rush it.
I feel like >> But if you don't rush it all the good ones going to be gone or somebody else baby mama by the end man. Come on now it's not what we trying to no.
>> It's funny you'd say that. Do you do men really think like that?
>> [ __ ] I shoot I do.
>> Well here's the thing because the reason I asked that because I feel like you know this whole Kevin Samuels thing like oh well if you're a leftover woman if you're 35 and and it reminds me of the women who say all men are dogs. You only need one. You just need one.
>> Right.
>> You don't need everybody's baby mama.
You don't need all the girls in the world. You don't need every man. You just need one unless you're poly.
>> I don't want nobody's baby mama though.
You feel me? I want my own baby mama. I don't want your baby mama. I don't want his baby mama. I don't want all of that.
>> So you don't want a woman you wouldn't date a woman with kids. That's what you're saying.
>> with kids. I'm actually I'm actively I'm because I'm at a point where I'm trying to be more serious now.
>> Right.
>> I'm not dating women with kids because I know I don't want to raise your kids. I don't want to be with you with your kids. I would much rather start our own family together.
>> It's funny I am >> Straight up.
>> I have a friend well I don't want to go it's messy >> It's messy Monday man.
>> It's messy Monday. So I have an ex that I was with for a long time who not my husband before my husband.
>> Okay.
>> Early early days and he always said I don't I'll never date a woman with kids.
I'll never date I never had I didn't have kids when we were dating.
>> Mhm.
>> But lo and behold he married a woman with a child.
>> Mhm.
>> Raised her child.
>> Mhm.
>> Put her child through college.
Yeah. So you just never know. I'm not saying you should I'm just saying you never know. If you don't want a woman with children or you don't want a man with with kids which I know some women that say the same thing they don't want to be a a mama to somebody else's baby.
>> Yeah.
>> I I have a friend who is looking for a man with grandkids. Cuz she doesn't have any kids and she doesn't want kids, but she wants grandkids.
>> Right. So so so So let's go back to let's go back to your your your your ex-partner who married a woman with kids with her Did he have kids as well or >> No, he had no kids.
>> Okay.
>> He raised her child.
>> Got you. Okay.
>> Yeah.
>> So yeah, I mean he might be a good candidate for Messi Monday, too, one of these days. You know what I'm saying?
>> Yeah, if I could get him to do it.
>> Yeah. Yeah.
>> And he's a Scorpio. They don't like to tell their business.
>> Got you.
>> But um >> Not me, though. I'm >> No.
>> I'm cool.
>> Okay, what are other deal-breakers for you? Sherry Bell is in the chat. She says you're probably going to end up with a great woman with a kid and she'll be the one.
>> I've met some great women with kids.
It's just and >> And that was a deal-breaker?
>> I just know what I It's not a It's not necessarily a deal-breaker. It's just I know what I want what I don't want. So I'm not going to go after I know I don't like avocado, so I'm not going to get the avocado toast. You know?
It's not the avocado toast isn't fire.
It's not that it may not be a best-seller somewhere else. It may not It may be what you're known for, but I'm not going to go for your avocado toast.
I'm good.
>> Uh Paul says don't miss out on your blessing, brother Miles, being narrow-viewed.
>> I'm not narrow-viewed. I'm wide open. I see them.
>> And Morris says never say never. You never know.
>> Right. And you know the thing is, too, is like I and it it the older I get, the more attractive it becomes to see women being great mothers to their to their uh to their children. You know what I mean?
Seeing the families they're raising and putting together. See I it's it's it's a turn-on.
>> want to start new.
>> I want to start new.
>> to start new.
>> That's just where I'm at with it.
>> And and I and I will say this and I'm not trying to influence you, but being a stepmother was actually really great.
Being a bonus mama >> that.
>> You know, when the when the marriage went away, I the kids stayed.
>> Right.
>> She's my forever bonus baby.
>> Got you. I hear that a lot. Yeah, yeah.
I hear that a lot.
>> Yeah, shout out Issa.
>> I also hear you ain't my damn daddy. Get out my You ain't my daddy.
>> I didn't get that at all.
>> seen, you know what I'm saying? I've seen them turn these little gremlins on these dudes a couple times. So, you know?
>> Yeah, well that but that has to do do the character of the of the parent. The biological. I mean, to a degree.
And maybe >> that time I'm face down smack I don't call Dominique and said I found the one.
I'd have done messy Monday and talked about black marriage Monday coming up and just to find out it's you know it's two on it's a 20 v 1 cuz her and all them kids on my head.
>> Well, let me tell you um I did have when I started dating my husband and he had a a daughter.
>> Mhm.
>> I did say if the daughter don't like me it's off.
>> Okay.
>> I'm not If she don't like me if she has an aversion to me then uh sorry. Don't matter how much I like you.
It's not that I didn't want a kid [snorts] him to have a kid. It's just that if the kid had a problem with me that was going [music] to be not good.
>> Yeah.
>> But that ended up being just the opposite.
>> You know I don't like cats either when I think like you know you can get rid of the cats. You know what I mean for your man. You know I can't get rid of kids so >> Well, but >> You just >> If she won't get rid of the cat that that's a deal breaker?
>> That's that's a deal breaker too. Yeah.
>> Okay. So no cats, no kids. Dang you got rules.
>> I'm I'm strict over here. That's not even too strict though. That's That's just >> [laughter] >> That's just the application. That's not too strict. I'm just >> else What else? What What else What other no's are on the list? No cats, no kids?
>> Um >> Can they drink? Can they smoke?
>> You can drink you can smoke. I don't do surgeries. No surgeries. No no enhancements and stuff like that. Yeah yeah yeah. No boob jobs, no BBLs. You know what I mean? I'm I'm I prefer I prefer uh I prefer the natural hair personally.
Um I You know I mean it it it turns into like more of a what do you do than it would necessarily a what don't you have in my opinion. I'm saying or do you cook? Can you uh uh Are you are you good community member?
Are >> Can you cook?
>> I can cook. Yes, I can.
>> Yeah well, we know you're a good community member.
>> Are you a good community Can you dance?
Are you artistic? Do you paint?
>> she can't dance? Are you like Anderson Paak?
>> I'm just saying what >> That's a deal breaker.
>> What what [laughter] do If you don't If you don't dance, what do you do?
>> What do you do?
>> What do you do?
>> Yeah, true that. That's >> You go to school? Are you a dentist? Are you a lawyer? Are you into yoga? You do crystals? You do hair? No, you don't know Okay, you just drinking partying and post on TikTok and you're an influencer all day? Okay, for sure.
>> That's a no.
>> Yeah, you want to Yeah, you want to scam a dude?
>> [laughter] >> You got switch you on? That's your timeline? For sure. You just want to go to brunch? You just want to drink? You just want to Okay, for sure.
>> Well, >> But you said you want to be married. You said you wanted a good man. You said you looking for God in the flesh. You said you talking about this, that, and the third. You said you want a black man.
>> a lot of that that contradiction of oh, I say I want a husband, but I act like I like I'm outside all the time.
>> for sure. I I think I think that if you you want your husband to compete with your other options.
>> Yeah.
>> You don't want to choose your husband and choose your husband and stick with your choice. You'd rather choose your husband and if your husband ain't what you want him to be like when your clothes ain't what you want them to be, you take them back and trade them in.
You want to have your husband compete with your options and be your best option instead of saying, you know what, I chose my husband every day. That's what I'm looking for. I'm looking to get chosen with my mouth closed, you know what I mean? Choose me.
Pick up.
>> Yeah.
>> But that's not necessarily what you want. You want this, that, and the third. I know exactly what I want, so I'm kind of more going for >> I really don't think a lot of women know what they want. Maybe I'm in I'm maybe I'm in a different Maybe I'm in a different demographic than you. Maybe the millennials don't, but I I have a lot of young friends.
>> I think they do, too, but I think they're bad at communicating.
>> I think >> Even if you communicating, you're not You you may communicate what you Like you just said, it may be hard to tell the man what you if you're serious about something because it may scare him off.
I think you may tell the man what you want because you want what you want.
You want the man in the summertime, but you still want to go out and >> we what we want because we think it will scare him away.
That's what I think. A lot of women are afraid to say they will even want a commitment, let alone a marriage, because men they they think This is the logic. Make him fall in love with you first and then tell him what you want.
>> Right. Okay.
>> Not that you can make anyone fall in love with you, but that's what people think.
>> Mhm.
>> You know, let him get to know you, let him fall for you, and then tell him what you want.
>> Right.
That's very strategic of you, though. I don't think that they're that strategic.
I think they're a little more reactionary.
>> I've had a lot of conversations with people about that. I'm This is not just me inside my head. This is conversations I've had with women, old and young. Um you know, I have Funny, a lot of my friends are young or they're senior citizens. Don't have as many friends my exact age.
>> [laughter] >> But anyway, um Molly Bell says her name is Molly Reynolds Caldwell Mitchell Bell. She's been married couple times, couple few. I think three.
>> Okay.
>> And she says she has no regrets. Um Kwamel says any more than two marriages is a red flag. Would you If they had no children, but they'd been married before, would you marry them? Would you be down?
That's a no.
>> I'll talk with you. We could We could talk about it.
>> You took too long.
>> new.
>> That's a no.
>> I think [laughter] about that. I haven't had nobody that's been out of a marriage like I've had somebody where their their spouse died, actually.
>> A widow?
>> Yeah. A widow. Oh, I didn't mean to laugh, but yeah, that's the word, a widow.
>> Yeah.
>> Um and that was a no for me because it was like, "Oh, yeah, you know, I'm I plan on naming my first kid after him, and you know, I got I'm going to get his name tattooed, all this and that." And I'm like, "Whoa."
>> Yeah, she needs time.
>> Whoa, yeah, you need to talk.
>> [laughter] >> Because that's a no off top, but whoa, slow down some.
And I got a homie that was named Jaylen, I love, but we're not going to we're not doing that.
>> yeah, yeah.
>> No, no, no.
>> But >> Not for the rest of my life you could compare me to me, homie.
>> not ready.
>> Yeah.

Customs officials said Artan was denied entry because of what they called betting concerns. The US has Somalia on a list of countries where citizens are prohibited from traveling to the US. Customs agents failed to produce any evidence that Artan was a threat to the US or had ties to terrorist organizations. No debates, no speculation, just the info you need.
That's your KBLA Sports Minute. I'm Ray Richardson on KBLA Talk 1580.

With a KBLA Talk 1580 editorial, I'm Tavis Smiley. We continue our look at what is happening and what is not happening along [music] the Destination Crenshaw corridor. Last time we talked about the promises made to this community, today [music] we talk about the reality on the ground, and it is not pretty. Let's start with something as basic as a visit to the vet. Customers of the local veterinary clinic right next door to the studio are forced to park blocks away [music] and carry their sick and injured animals through conditions that no pet owner or sick animal should have to endure. Why?
Because the construction has blocked access to the vet's parking lot for years now. The vet is losing clients, the vet is losing revenue, and frankly, who can blame these customers for not coming back? This is but one example of a small [music] black-owned business being quietly strangled, and nobody at City Hall seems to notice or care. And the conditions along this corridor, they are not just an eyesore, they are a health hazard. Unsanitary conditions and repeated health code violations are doing exactly what you would expect, inviting vermin into our neighborhood.
Rodents, [music] pests, the kind of infestation that does not stay in one place. It spreads into homes, into restaurants, [music] into our daily lives. For years now. Then there is this. The houseless are finding refuge in the construction cubbyholes and unfinished spaces left wide [music] open along this project. These are precious human beings to be sure, [music] in desperate situations, but this is also a safety and liability crisis that the city created and has yet to address for years now. In our prior editorial, trying to save some space for grace, we did not call his name. But after a full week of running the editorial hourly, [music] highlighting the myriad delays, business losses, health violations, safety concerns, and more, we have heard absolutely nothing from City Council President Marqueece Harris-Dawson.
Nothing. Not a word. The [music] council member who represents this district has gone silent. You see why we call this project Procrastination Crenshaw?
>> [music] >> And so I repeat, Crenshaw deserves better.
With a KBLA Talk 1580 editorial, I'm Tavis Smiley. As always, we welcome your feedback.
>> [music] >> We knew you'd stick around. This is LA's home for progressive talk radio.

Okay, Miles.
Uh, it's a messy Monday and we're talking love, relationship and things.
Um, and you are single, right? Single, single, single.
>> Single as a $2 bill, baby.
>> Single as a $2 bill. Hmm, what does that mean?
>> It's only one of me, baby. It's only one. [laughter] Y'all don't come around very often, you know what I mean? You may see them ones everywhere, them single singles.
>> That sounded like a trick answer, but anyway, okay.
>> Double what you looking for. You thought you saw one, [laughter] but not really really the two.
>> Oh, yeah.
>> and the two.
>> The one and the two. Okay.
And so you say you don't want a woman with kids, you don't want >> want a white woman.
>> You don't want a white woman.
>> Hispanic woman. I don't want a Asian woman.
>> Oh, not Latino or Asian.
>> black woman only.
>> Okay. All right.
>> Yeah.
>> Black only. All right. All right. I'm not mad at that. I bet some people are, though.
>> I got some friends that say the same thing like Paul Mooney say, "Don't block your blessings. Don't you know, you cutting off your options." It's like, "Okay, for sure."
>> Do you um, are you are you like Dr. Umar, are you mad at people that do make other choices, that do um, date or marry other outside their race?
>> I'm not judging nobody. I may smudge somebody, but I'm not judging nobody.
[laughter] I may mark you real quick. Okay, I got you. See what you got going for sure.
>> You're not going to follow them down the street like that that guy on Instagram talking about, "You're diluting the race."
>> Right. I would I might just send you the meme or something, but I ain't finna like, yeah, I might tease you a little bit, but yeah.
>> I mean, here's the thing. My mom is white and my dad is black.
>> Um, but for me, I overwhelmingly prefer a black man.
>> Okay.
>> And and I I maybe that's hypocritical, but it is what what is. Most of the light-skinned women I know like not just black men, but chocolate black men.
>> Okay.
>> I don't know.
>> So messy Monday, like I uh we've been to the last couple months had a graduation season upon us.
>> Uh-huh.
>> And I get to pull up on uh some of my family members.
And kind of see the ones who have been on some, you know, who who who who have I got some mixed race biracial in my family as well. And to just see their choice overwhelmingly never be a black person, a black man or woman, right? To now couple years later from younger cousins, older cousins, aunties, uncles kind of now they're all coming back like yeah, I think I'm I think I'm into I think I'm into black people. I tried this, you know, this like okay, >> Oh, so they went on vacation and they came back.
>> Yeah.
>> To they they they missed home.
>> Pretty much, exactly. Exactly.
>> yeah.
>> Or or or never really been home or was always kind of on some, you know, what?
I'm going to go this way. This this is it for me. This is the comfortable life then you come back like, oh, [laughter] wait a second. Okay.
>> A plus LA says, "What about a mixed breed?" A mixed breed is black, sorry.
Ahem. Next question. I mean in America.
I mean, well, maybe if they don't consider themselves black, they might not be. Uh to me, y'all made up the one drop rule. You know what I'm saying? And and for me it's never been it's not a struggle. Am I black?
>> But that's you. I think there's a lot of a lot of us not, you know what I mean, that are that are dealing with you know, that I want to say cri- I want to say crisis.
That's not the word I would use to say crisis, but dealing with, you know, balancing their own DNA >> And identity struggles.
>> Identity struggles, there you go.
>> that to be true because apparently one of the things the Lord wants me to do is talk some of these women off the ledge.
I can't tell you how many supposedly mixed women have come to me and we've had these processes of them helping them accept their blackness.
>> Mhm. Mhm.
>> And understanding that that doesn't mean you have to reject your other side, like I'm I make a mean Italian food. I love my Sicilian relatives, but >> Yeah.
>> I'm black.
>> Yeah.
>> Anyway, that's another show for another day. So, black women only >> Black women only before before, yeah.
>> No kids.
>> Um do something with your life.
>> Do so have something going on. Have something going on.
>> You know the other thing A+ LA said and it sounds like he may Oh, no, this is somebody else. This is Gregory Q7R1G.
He says most women don't face facts. And so, it sounds like he's agreeing with you. And I don't know what you mean by that, Gregory. You can call me or you could type it in.
I think if you mean that when we fall in love, we delude ourselves, I would agree with that.
>> Yeah, and I think I think women definitely will Here's the Here's the more important thing.
If you don't play the game with women sometimes, you don't have to worry about facing fact. They have to live in the reality of what you're what the truth what the truth is.
You can live in your head, but we're not going to interact >> That sounds right, but I feel like if when we're projecting >> Mhm.
>> uh some other person onto you, we don't see the signals. We're not picking up what you're putting down.
>> Right.
>> And I do agree with that. I think we have to stop being so delusional.
>> Right. But also, fellas, when it's when she hands you the scissors and you it's cutting time and it's time to hit that hit the big chop, that means the big chop really happened. That means there's no going back to it. You're not attaching it back onto your scalp.
You're letting the hair drop and starting fresh what you're doing. So, what a lot of dudes do is they say they're done. They say they're hard.
They say they've got a uh a program or or a script they're running and then as soon as it goes uh goes the other way or they get a little bit of you know what, get a little you know what I mean, it get gets physical or something. Now, the control of what you're doing goes back into their hands. So, now you're living in that same reality she's in. I don't think you have to do that.
>> Mhm. Yeah.
>> I don't I don't play that game personally.
>> Well, you know, and and I hear this a lot from men. A+ LA is saying um that women lack accountability.
I understand that because men from what I'm hearing, you guys want want more you want to hear us take um responsibility for more things within the relationship. But, also a lot of men lack accountability, too.
>> Yeah. Now, I wouldn't play the gender war part of it and say it's a more of a woman thing over man thing. I'm just speaking from the man perspective uh actively out here in the streets looking at you know, women in they face and and you know, being being as many different layers of myself, you know what I mean, in these relationships that I've been putting as can be. So, it's not just the the artist in me, it's the me taking it slow, it's the me understanding, it's the maturing me, it's the fun me, it's the pro-black me, it's the hip-hop >> Huh?
>> Are you the prize?
>> I'm her prize for sure. I'm her prize.
Heck yeah, I'm her prize.
>> I I asked that because a lot of women are complaining online all the time that men now think they're the prize.
>> I mean, you're my prize, I should be your prize, I believe.
>> Mutual prize.
>> we should be mutually each other's prize. That's the relationship I want. I don't want a relationship where where where I guess equally yoked is what they say, but I where we're both not, you know what I mean, twin uh twin stars in this in this constellation that we trying to put together here.
>> [laughter] >> Yeah, no, I I like that because if you're both a prize, then everyone's winning.
>> Everybody's winning. Everybody's winning. But, what you what what what I'm not going to do is I'm not going to I'm not going to be the NBA Finals trophy and be over here comparing with the Stanley Cup or with a gold medal, you know what I'm saying? Like, we all have our own thing. What >> Comparison is definitely the thief of joy.
>> Yeah.
>> Where no matter where it's coming from.
A plus LA says no woman wants their BS called out the way men's BS gets called out. No one wants their BS called out.
Men, women, child.
Nobody does.
And why do we have to call it out?
Shouldn't that be something that we kind of work through together? The man is the prize too. He says, "Yeah, I agree with that. I don't have a problem with that."
I think what they're saying is that when they think they're only the prize.
Because a lot some men walk around with this attitude, "Well, there's more women than men, so I'm the prize."
>> That's ignorance though. That's a little That's That's ignorance. But I hear you though Dominique. How How else are you supposed It may not be on me to call something out for you, but how else do you learn if nobody calls these things out? If we're just going around thinking that, "Oh yeah, well >> No, I mean call That's why I said call it out like behind closed doors. You don't need to put it on social media.
You need to call You don't need to call Dominique DePrima and say my girl, you know what I'm saying? Or my my dude, all men is you're a leftover. I don't I think we If the real intention is to have each other be healed and be ready ready and available for a relationship, then we should be able to not have to put each other on blast all the time. Is that wrong? I see you disagree.
>> you're right. You're right. I'm I'm listening to you. Right. I agree.
Um Yeah, I I I don't I don't I think there there's a lot of people that are um They're just used to to running their program, running their script, running their their imagination, their dream, their vision of how this world goes, now life is, and without having anybody else's point of view on it. You think everybody else's point of view is wrong or skewed or not accurate or they're the problem. They're looking at you wrong.
You aren't It's like that's not necessarily the the the case. You know what I mean? Sometimes good criticism, good hard tough criticism is what we need every now and then, men and women, but you know, as of late >> Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Well, and and and truth of the matter is if everyone else is wrong >> Yeah.
>> you probably are the problem.
>> And you may not be the right person [laughter] to explain that to them. You know what I'm saying? You may not be that person. Like you you are you are a great communicator. I'm a pretty good communicator, but we may not be the person they need to have hear that from, but also that may be why we came into your life. I may not be your husband, but I may have to do some chiseling on you real quick and just help mold you real quick.
>> You may be doing God's work.
>> I may be doing God's work in the flesh on you, baby, and you may reject God.
That may be your thing, but I may have to do some chiseling on the way out the door.
>> Yes, indeed. It's a messy Monday. I'm KBLA Talk 1580.

Happy birthday, Cube. Um, it's Gemini season, so it's all the rappers birthday. We missed belated birthday to Kanye. His birthday was June 8th.
Um, Tupac's birthday is tomorrow. We'll be celebrating that around here for show, for show. And then Kendrick's is the day after tomorrow, the 17th. And I know I'm missing some people, but anyway, happy birthday Cube. Today's your day and I hope it's a good day. I'm sure it would be a good day.
I'm trying to figure out why everyone's posting all these black men are posting uh Michelle Obama and showing her love on this messy Monday miles.
Well, it turns out that somebody at the um, dumb UFC White House Manosphere Fest um, called her a man.
And that's one of their conspiracy theories. Clearly they haven't seen any of the They haven't seen me coming.
There's so many pictures of her as a little girl and growing up. Anyway, whatever. So apparently black men are posting Michelle Obama and writing beautiful things about her. And I love that for us.
It feels good when black men stand up for us. Anyway, it's a messy Monday. We were talking about relationships.
Um, and you said um, only black women need apply. But I wanted to not call you out, but gently point something out to you.
>> Girl, we dummy. Let me know. Give me the truth.
>> Well, you said that you are looking for love, that you're ready for a serious relationship. But you also started out saying that maybe you're supposed to be outside.
Maybe it's not that season.
And so I feel like that may be giving the universe mixed messages.
>> Okay. Well, um I'm just saying that that that's just me reading. That's not me writing. If I was writing the script, the script would be a whole different story. But just me reading the script that is playing out for me this summer so far, you know what I mean? How 2026 is being?
>> Okay. It's a one year.
>> Huh?
>> It's a one year, so I'm like >> year, man. We'll see.
>> We'll see. I don't know. I I just I've been told don't send mixed messages. Sahara Ali always says focus on what we want, not what we don't want.
Maybe we've been focusing too much on what you don't want. But let's go to Quamel calling us from where Quamel be at, which I think is Gardena.
>> Yes, ma'am. Yes, ma'am. Uh also, by the way, uh did you know that MC Ren is born the exact day after Cube?
>> Oh, so he's born on Tupac's birthday. Or Tupac was born on his birthday. I don't know which one was older.
>> Yes. Yes, so so Tupac will be 2 years younger than than MC Ren, so yeah.
>> Okay, so [clears throat] Pac was >> Ren was born the exact day after Cube.
>> Wow, that's wild.
>> Yeah, I was like Yeah, I was that was bug to me when I found that out, too.
>> The mic is hot. Do you hear me?
>> [laughter] >> Now, let me get to the point cuz I know uh I know I got to I know I got to land real fast. It's like a quick little helicopter ride. So, um I want to say to Miles, anybody around around his age, like while it's not baggage season >> [laughter] >> where in your dating world, rock rock with them. Be outside, but don't be for the streets.
>> Please.
>> Cuz um like you in my in my bracket, it's a lot of a lot of jadedness and a lot of when we've been building and I I've heard Leslie Jones talk about this on the drink and I could I could bounce out on this note, where it's they want to go on a journey with us, but it's the whole idea of feeling we're not on their level or they're not on our level. Um more and more the the former.
And I've gotten a feeling and maybe maybe the Pre-Med can speak to this, the idea with the sisters that uh we're good over here. We don't want you at messing with our peace.
And not saying that we're we're here to bring the drama, but it's that whole thing again of just while while we're both building is is probably the best time to strike, not when we're all like jaded and in baggage world and, you know, bitter about each other and and and now having them internet battles. Thank you for your time. I'm going to take y'all comments after here.
>> Interesting.
Yeah, well, I think it's our job to not get bitter and toxic and have so much baggage, no matter what our generation.
But, I see your point, Miles.
>> I agree. We got to uh Look, don't don't have a bottle of mean juice before you go outside. Yeah, make sure you have a bottle of smile juice.
Bring your giggles. Bring your light.
Bring something you happy about. We we don't want to see all your issues. You know what I'm saying? We we we'll get to that. We don't don't bring that outside and wear it on your on your sleeve so as soon as a man talk to you, he got to well, you know, my mom passed last month, so I'm in a bitter position I'm in a gentle position. I'm like, oh, well, well, well, I said, how's your day going?
You're not from out here, are you?
Clearly not from out here cuz you smile too much, baby. No. No. We don't need all your baggage.
>> So, maybe what we need to do for Messy Monday. Would it still be messy? Maybe we need to focus on instead of what are your deal breakers, what are your deal makers?
>> Mhm, deal makers. Deal makers. Yes. Yes.
What are my deal You asked me what are my deal makers?
>> Well, yeah, you got you got 60 seconds.
>> you need to have a bright smile. You need to be uh spiritually aligned with with with something. Um we need to be going towards the same thing.
Um need to care about your health. Need to be in the gym. You need to uh have a great relationship with your family.
Um smoke a little weed, know a little hip hop, you know what I'm saying? Be a little [laughter] active, you know what I'm saying? Whatever. Whatever you got, man. Yeah, yeah. Yeah, yeah.
