When political leaders make specific economic promises to voters, they become directly accountable for the outcomes, and failure to deliver can result in severe political consequences such as record-low approval ratings and loss of public trust.

Trump is FURIOUS Over This New Number
Added:Donald Trump is, right now, according to people inside his own White House, absolutely furious.
Why? You can probably already figure this one out.
According to CNN's Dana Bash, "President is fuming over mainly the failure of his disastrous war with Iran."
>> Sources tell CNN that President Trump is growing more and more furious, especially this week after he ordered new strikes in Iran. They say he felt both Iran and the media didn't view US military action as powerful enough, so he ordered another round of strikes yesterday in the hopes of forcing Iran to come to the table in a way that they will accept a deal. But, today he's still clearly frustrated that Iran doesn't seem to be taking the strikes seriously, which is why he's raising the stakes again.
>> The fact that aides are leaking Trump's fury to reporters is a nice little tell about how the mood is over in the White House.
Now, aside from the Iran stuff, which is connected to what I'm going to talk about, let's get into the numbers that have him pretty worked up.
On the economy, specifically inflation.
You know, the thing you ran on, the thing you promised to fix on day one.
Donald Trump's net approval rating has hit -50.
Mhm.
Talk about being in the dumps.
>> Big massive dumps.
>> And it's not just one bad poll that you can just kind of wave off. No, no, no.
Even though they'll try. No, it's the average across eight separate surveys, and let me tell you what, it is a record of failure.
No other president in the history of modern polling has been this far underwater on an issue.
Not George W. Bush in his worst stretch.
Not Jimmy Carter.
Nobody.
Dude is down there in the Mariana Trench.
And he is absolutely alone.
Let's get into it.
So, President Donald Trump has received the single worst inflation numbers ever recorded for an American president.
And that's not the only record he's broken on his way down.
And gas prices specifically, his disapproval rating has hit 80%.
I mean, talking about disaster, epic failure.
And again, he is the first president to ever pull that one off, too.
Man is collecting records like it's nobody's business.
And not a single one of those is the kind that you want to frame.
And here's the number that is the most devastating, not just for Donald Trump, but for the entire GOP.
For the first time since the 1970s, Americans now trust Democrats over Republicans on handling inflation.
Somehow, Republicans have been able to own being good on the economy for like half a century.
Probably through the targeted propaganda and constant messes that Democrats have keep having to clean up with austerity measures.
But now, it looks like Donald Trump finally broke the spell.
It turns out there are some things that you can't lie your way out of in politics.
And that is the health of your pocketbook.
Especially when you consider what was promised. Trump told his voters, over and over again, he would bring prices down, groceries, gas, rent, and that he'd start doing it immediately. Day one.
And that promise is why a lot of people voted for him. And and yes, there is racism, there's white supremacy, Christian nationalism, red pill content creators online, but there were also a lot of folks, especially in the Latino community, that voted for Trump because of the economic promises that he made.
Specifically undoing the effect of Donald Trump's first term COVID economy.
The thing that brought us record inflation.
So, let's go meet a few of these voters, hm?
MSNBC actually went out and talked to some of them.
Annette Dombrowski is one.
She is a janitor who triple Trumped.
Her reward at the end of the month, she's losing her job.
Oops.
She told them that she is having panic attacks because she can't afford to retire.
Then you have Chris Tackett, also a three-time Trump voter. He said that the prices have drilled him into the dirt.
Ouch.
And then there's Rob Couch, who was asked what he'd say to Donald Trump now.
And he had offered a two-word response, the first word of which starts with an F and ends with uck you.
Again, these are long-time Trump voters.
They're not members of the liberal resistance.
But to be fair, Donald Trump Trump did promise to shake things up for people.
Well, mission accomplished.
Now, here's what's actually happening underneath all of this.
And it's displayed in the polling.
You see, these voters, a lot of them didn't really care about the culture war.
And they certainly didn't want to be involved in any other kind of war, either.
So, they didn't vote for a fight about other people's pronouns, or where trans people go to pee.
They voted they pulled that lever for Trump because eggs were too expensive.
Rent was skyrocketing.
And Trump had promised specifically to make that stop.
But instead, it got worse, thanks to the tariffs, deregulation of industry, and the war with Iran that has choked off the Strait of Hormuz.
A war that he had promised not to get us into.
Oops.
And here's the thing about making a kitchen table promise. It's the one that you can't really spin. You can try it.
And they absolutely will try to spin it. But it's not going to work because people see it every day.
Every single time you buy groceries, you see it.
Look, you can argue about almost anything in politics. I know.
But you know what you can't argue with?
A receipt at the cash register.
Now here's where this lands on Donald Trump personally, right onto his fat orange nugget.
You see, Donald Trump doesn't give a damn about Annette Dombrowski or her panic attacks.
That man is never going to lose a minute of sleep over a janitor in a focus group.
Or any of his voters for that matter.
But he cares enormously about one thing.
And that's about how he is being perceived. The numbers, the ratings, being seen as a winner.
Being seen as strong.
And that's exactly where this polling hits him.
His own voters suffering due to his own actions will never ever move him.
But their suffering showing up in his approval ratings?
That probably will.
I mean that that right there might be one of the reasons that Trump is so furious and he's pacing around the White House while his staff leaks it to CNN.
He said that he was the only one who could fix the economy. Only I can fix it.
And folks believed him so completely that when it all fell apart, it fell apart in the one single number that he stares at every single morning.
Look, Donald Trump wanted to be judged on the strength of the economy. Well, ladies and gentlemen, he's getting his wish.
And the verdict, it came back at minus 50.
